A Modified Gilmour Impact Sprinkler - No Deflector Ma!!!

- Actually there is more to this Gilmour Impact Sprinkler than just removing the non-functional deflector, besides the defuser does the job adequately. I removed the deflector for two reasons, the first being it does so little deflecting, but the main reason is to fix the nozzle which is glued in. I tried to remove it so I could replace with another better design. Since the veins in the nozzle minimize the stream, I decided that it will not matter if I drilled out the hole in this case with a 5/32 drill bit. The result is night and day difference. It worked more like I expected and will probably adjust thee spring on it as well as it is too tight. I am not a fan of this sprinkler, but it is well made and there are some good design features, the main one being the overall quality of the build. I like the design of the trip mechanism in the rear rather than in front. The stops are single lever designed and that makes adjustment so much easier. You do not have to figure out which side of the stops need to be adjusted. The Arm design falls into the true anti-backsplash design like Rain Bird originally intended with the PJ arm, a brilliant design. The water shoots out in front along with the stream and the side walk is mostly dry. Look for another modification to this sprinkler down the road with the arm and spring.

Good mod to the Gilmour, getting nice coverage with the drilled out nozzle. Great addition to have the pressure gauge and ball valve.
5/32 is a nice nozzle size on a 1/2” impact. Nice upgrade you performed!
Thank you, it was my way of making the sprinkler more like the way I like to see it work. The next challenge is adjusting the spring so it is not so tight and adding a little weight to the tale end is next. I personally do not like a real tight spring.
Nice Gilmour! Seems you also added a riser to your stand. Should get farther out with it too!
Cool
