I remember my first time at a cologne boutique... I had no idea about perfumes, so the lady explained to me something about fragrances and let me smell a bunch, then, when my nose had enough and I was thinking to just buy this or that, she gave me some little free vials and invited me to leave the boutique and return only after having tested all of them... It took me about a couple of weeks, then I went back to her saying "This one was my favorite, but", she took another one from the shelves, let me smell it and yes, it was it. I am still amazed at how she managed to guide me in the selection of that one perfume (Floris 71/72)
I have learnt that perfume is also very dependent on the mood of the wearer, the weather and generally the season and time of day. During the day, I tend to wear lighter fragrances such as Colognes by Acqua di Parma, or even an Aventus. Towards the evening, it can be a stronger fragrance. I go for brands like Xerjoff and Clive Christian. The Roberto Ugolinis are very good fragrances but I rarely used them because they were too mature for my mid-twenties. The most beautiful Ugolini is still the Marzocco! I regret having sold it.
I haven't worn cologne for several years but recently started trying different scents. My nose is not sophisticated enough to tell the difference between mid-level and expensive colognes, but I usually know if I am smelling a super cheap one. I bought some Middle Eastern fragrances that smell nice. One is a "dupe" of Baccarat Rouge 540, and the other smells similar to Bleu de Chanel. Instead of $150 to $300 for a bottle, these were around $35 each. The only problem with them is the smell wears off quicker than I wish.
I don't find other words to say it, so i just going to say it this way: i love the Gentleman's Gazette channel , for me is just the best!, thanks guys!
Great video gentlemen! I love seeing Nathan in videos as I do miss him. A couple of things to note: Sillage is properly pronounced as See Yage. The two L's are pronounced as Yah combined with the "Age" being pronounced as you would if you were going to a spa to get a therapeutic "message". Sillage is a French word. Also, please don't spray your fragrance and then rub it in, as it causes the top notes of the fragrance to dissipate very quickly. The top notes are more often than not, the notes that will flash off the fastest anyway. By rubbing your wrists together after applying your fragrance, you are essentially "mashing" the molecules in the top notes causing them to flash off and therefore disappear very quickly. Okay guys! Carry on! I am always hanging on your every word! Thank you once again Kyle! Outstanding work! Lisa
Thank you for another informative video gentlemen. I’m only recently informing myself on the wild, ever-changing world of fragrances. Though being a fragrance greenhorn I was always under the impression that a fragrance should be applied directly to the skin and never to one’s clothes as it could stain or last longer than desired. Is this correct or is it not such a hard and fast rule?
Notwithstanding the fact that most cheap fragrances run heavy on alcohol, I've found that quality parfum, cologne, EDP, etc., will dry within a reasonable amount of time when applied to the skin while dressing. For me, that's after I get my white t-shirt on but before I don my dress shirt. *Truth is, any fragrance is meant to be applied to the skin, especially quality products, because they are made to interact with your body chemistry.*
Back in the 80's I ran with Drakkar. I didn't know diddly about men's fragrance, but if anyone asked me I'd tell them and they knew the brand instantly. Using quality fragrance today, I get a lot of comments - all positive. It's gratifying to get that kind of feedback!
In the thumbnail I saw Ck Obsession as the cheaper option and I don’t even know the expensive one. Honestly, I think it depends. I am still a student, I try to make my way up and I use the exact same Obsession as my winter scent. It depends on the budget. People like it, I like it then that’s okay. It’s all about budget, and while I think a good scent is important, it is one of the later details that one should focus on.
Drakkar Noir. Still have from high school in 80’s. A classic aged like bootleg whiskey. Second choice is to bathe in Polo by Ralph Lauren w the 128oz bottle I bought in 80s.
The cologne that I use is the cologne from Dr Squatch I have the three flavors glacial falls fireside Bourbon and woodland pine you should take a look at them I think you'd like them
Polo cologne will always be associated with body odor to my nose. When I was attending university, some of my fellow classmates decided to put on lots of Polo cologne instead of showering. It doesn't matter who wears it, even if that person is freshly showered, Polo cologne just always smells bad to me. Polo = stinky armpit.
This channels tailors to people who want to and can afford high quality products. “Focusing on scent” is true, but it oversimplifies the complex nature of fragrances where being educated on notes, construction of the oils, and some chemistry is helpful in choosing a fragrance that will last. That why many people like myself have no issue paying a high price tag for Amouage or Roja Dove fragrances.
@@gentlewolf as of this writing the video has at least 10,000 views and over 300 have gave the video a like writing. So I am not sure that 43 likes is as impressive as you think. Also, and please excuse my ignorance if this is not correct, but for all we now your comment could have 43 likes And any number of dislikes. But sure it was a very thought provoking and intelligent comment that all of RUclips wholeheartedly supports. 😁👍
Expensive cologne may be fine for some people but there is no way I am going to spend hundreds of dollars on a bottle. I am fine with inexpensive colognes with basic scents. My sense of smell is not very good anyway.
Guys please don’t fall for these tactics and go out and an expensive fragrance just because a RUclipsr wants to promote a particular product. Buy what you like be it cheap or expensive as literally no one could notice the difference from a distance or even up close as long as you buy the reasonably priced ones. The host himself seems to have a very limited knowledge and experience of fragrances Now a days the you can a find a good quality fragrance at a fraction of the cost of these niche brands’ so called “high” quality fragrances. This myth has already been busted as most of us fragrance connoisseurs know that most of what these niche/expensive brands charge is just for the sake of their brand value and does not reflect the actual quality of the scent (take creed for example)
I've noticed this with the channel. They used to promote buying quality products, now they often pretend whatever trash brand is willing to promote them is good quality rather than being honest.
I like the tips and advice the videos still have, but I agree there is a lot more push to show of their own products in videos. I get that it’s a business and they should advertise, but it sometimes gets annoying how often it gets brought up.
When you experience the drydown of a Cr*ed, you understand what you paid for. A clone gives you the top, then it's gone. Didn't want a non-house brand getting deleted ;)
Don't wear cologne. There are many people with sensitivities, and even people who like perfume may hate your scent. Smelling clean and inoffensive is the classiest choice.

Yes 👍 you are right
I was just going to say the same but you beat me to it lol mate😆
I mostly use fragrances to keep people away from me. The 80's powerhouse is perfect for this purpose.
There's a cheaper way, to keep folks at bay :-)

Blue Stratos. Never worked in 80s, doesn’t work now. Love it

I’ve been disappointed in $100 fragrances and absolutely impressed with $25 fragrances. Both in terms of scent and performance.
Oh good video. I got a 20 dollar testing set for finding one i like
Could I make a suggestion for a video? How to use a cane. For the gentleman having trouble walking (I’m recovering from surgery)
We're thinking of something along those lines - stay tuned, and wishing you a speedy recovery!
On of my favorite fragrances is Blue by Bvlgari. It's been discontinued which make me sad.

I use Obsession for Men by CK. To me, the expensive colognes smell oddly similar, like the houses of ill repute in various French cities.
Great quote: “Invest in perishable items”.
Do a video on body sprays
Buy Hi Karate. The best!
🥋 can u still find it?
The cologne that I use is the cologne from Dr Squatch I have the three flavors glacial falls fireside Bourbon and woodland pine you should take a look at them I think you'd like them
Nishane Hacivat. One spray. All day.
so people should not buy fragrances from Avon.
Where are the frB belts

This video WAY overdoes it. Focus on scent. Buy what your nose and style loves. Done. Who cares if it's cheap. You love it? Rock on.

Old Spice is nice.
It was years ago mate
But not now maybe try tommy or hugo boss they are very good
nothing but a sales pitch for GG to flog their smelly water - this channel isnt what it use to be by a country mile

Their products are high quality and nothing but the images are showing their product. I don't think this is a sales pitch at all.

The very best is none.
Why "cheap vs expensive" instead of "good vs bad"? Expensive =/= good
"Expensive bottles are a lot cheaper than expensive fragrances"
Got a source for that claim? I'm pretty sure that largely isn't accurate
This video is full of slightly inaccurate information, attempting to impress with advanced vocabulary instead of accessible info of actual substance
Every video he talks in , he seems uninterested in his own speech. I love the channel ,but c’mon , speaking properly is necessary

Dior Savage all the way.
The GOAT of scents.
Wait a minute. you’re referring to this 1 TikToker who has a beef with Dior Savage.🤣🤣🤣

Wearing an aquatic or aromatic fresh scent is generally mass pleasing. You wont be smelling "fresh" 5 hours after just a shower
Non because they’re horrible
