They also have a ton of resources up north too.
The best region for climate stability in the world is the Great Lakes system between US and CA. It's the largest fresh water system in the world and the largest region of arable land in the world. The US and CA also have sufficient energy to remain independent should it come to that. It's the Europeans and Asians who will have it the worst. Let's hope Russia finds a way to be an economic partner once again.

DAMN right! I was thinking the same thing. Its not gonna be all roses over there. They have TONS of permafrost and methane hydrate deposits that would be released. Yikes.
Permafrost doesn’t melt. It is called permafrost because it is so far underground that it never gets heat or ultraviolet rays to melt the ice in the matrix of the soil. In my yard, the permafrost is 7-8 feet down. It never thaws because it is insulated with all the soil on top of it.
All? No. Most? Yeah. Most of us will totally die. Russia will benefit in terms of climate, but also they'll have the biggest migration crisis ever to exist on this planet, with literally all the rest of the planet moving north to cooler climates.

I couldn't disagree more. Climate change will cause so much havoc on the environment, so much disarray on global economy that the concept of "superpower" will cease to exist. Even if massive swaths of land in Canada and Russia become more usable with warming trends, the rest of the planet will be in such a mess, there will be no economy left to sustain anything that resembles a superpower. Indeed, those areas of Siberia will prosper, but the disastrous consequences of global warming will overshadow any economic gain.
Yeah, if climate change occurs on the scale where all of these areas melt and thaw out, then that means most of the coastal world would already basically be underwater. The sheer global crisis this would cause would basically tank the global economy.
One significant hole in this theory: the climate types that far north can be entirely novel. This mostly has to do with the solar radiation of these latitudes. At these high latitudes, the absolute temperature range will increase to be similar to the current temperate zones, but then it becomes a matter of timing. Since the latitude is higher than current temperate zones, the sun is weaker, meaning the energy received at such high latitudes will have different timing characteristics to those farther south. It's the reason why despite Britain and southeast Australia having the same climate type under the Köppen-Geiger classification scheme, the climate of Victoria is far hotter in absolute highest temperatures: it lies at a lower latitude. There can be some completely unaccounted for climate types if this metric is used as the defining characteristic of a climate.
The strong and warm gulf stream current is why Britain has the mild climate it has at its high latitude. That same latitude in the interior of Canada and Russia is brutally cold most of the year.
@@Gamedraco its also entirely possible that the amoc is weakened severely by the melting ice in greenland, causing europe to be plunged into canada like temperatures.

I guess the fact that the days are much longer in summer time in the far north. The long days of sunlight did result in higher temperature, and swamp and mosquitos both are awful.

If only permafrost and a short growing season were the only limitations to farming in Alaska. Global tilting might be more of an issue, since the prospects of the winter snowpack disappearing north of the 65th parallel are dismal, which means freezes in May and even June will continue.
Alaska will become the main source of work and food in the USA. The rest of the country will be in turmoil as refugees from New York, Boston, Miami, etc all go inland. But that means that basically all of Alaska will exist as suppor for a chaotic mainland. Which might end on Alaska declaring independence because they would see the rest of USA as a food and resources leech.

Like always and everywhere, there are winners and loosers. I lived for nearly 10 years in Sibiria and max temperature I experienced was -57°, that was crazy.
Rising temperatures could open millions of once frigid acres to the plow, officials, farmers and scientists predict, however if we're looking at places like Nunavut, Yukon and the NW territories becoming suitable for farming, by then that would mean the greater effect of climate change would be overshadowed by the frequent storms, droughts, heatwaves, blackouts, etc. that Canada's major cities, i.e. Toronto, Ottowa, Vancouver, Victoria, Richmond, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon would have to face. Extra farmland is nearly useless and will not make profits if well-developed cities and towns are going to get hit hard by climate change. Leave it be. None of these places are huge as Russia, which is already a millitary superpower, and has a strong economy. 80% of Russia's land is frozen and global warming would make them probably most powerful country in recent history. Canada has a lot of islands which will be hard to take resource from, scandanavia is full of mountains, Alaska won't make USA powerful again because their mainland will be on fire, southern south America will be on fire too because it isn't too cold there and it will take a lot of time to take resources from antartica

I've been saying this for a few years already. As a Canadian, I understand that some 70+% of the people live BELOW the 49th parallel. There's gonna be a LOT more climate friendly land when the Earth heats up. Sure, all those lush green forests will die from pine beetles and dry forest fires, but it would have a much warmer future.
Also, I have to assume China's grand strategy is to gain control of Russia (directly or indirectly) to exploit the changing geography, as China has no food or energy security. I wouldn't be surprised if China ultimately invades eastern Russian in the future.
@@robbiep742 its defo not, fresh water and power is useless when you have to import all the crops and cows when crops are inefficient enough for 100's of millions and cows take more and more water and more feed, also higher chance for diseases in lake systems with warming.

The sheer global crisis this would cause would basically tank the global economy.
let the whole world burn , the main thing is that everything is fine with us
One significant hole in this theory: the climate types that far north can be entirely novel.

The have very cold winters in Siberia, but they can also have extremely hot summers there as well. +30 - +40 celsius in summer in Siberia is very common and causes troubles. Also, a lot of "frozen" Siberia literally becomes swamps in summer.

I guess the fact that the days are much longer in summer time in the far north. The long days of sunlight did result in higher temperature, and swamp and mosquitos both are awful.

Hi I am the 100th like
Me mum wants to move down to the lower 48s to go farm. She doesn’t understand that we living in Alaska is strategic.
If only permafrost and a short growing season were the only limitations to farming in Alaska. Global tilting might be more of an issue, since the prospects of the winter snowpack disappearing north of the 65th parallel are dismal, which means freezes in May and even June will continue.
48s?
@@anderstermansen130 “Lower 48s” meaning the 48 states below Alaska or also means mainland America.

Looks good for Canada as well.
That is if the Canadian government can stop being retarded; then sure. But don't hold your breath.
Countries can adopt rooftop gardens, hydroponics and aquaponics for their agriculture, and whatever new technologies come along to make the future sustainable in order to help humans adapt to the Earth in a manner that doesn't disturb nature in the least of ways, not like that'll ever happen.
