@@cmattdabrat For sure! I think it's a timing chain issue. Once I do an engine check and figure out the fab situation for the manifold and turbo I have laying around I should be back to cruzin!
Been watching for a looong time. It has come a long way since the early 'throw a cheap ebay turbo and a tune beginnings'. Thrse builds are the most interesting, sure, we could go faster with a known package, (ans itll be cheaper) but where's the challenges and the learnings. Glad you seem back on your feet and in a better place. It's good to see. Keep it up.
Thanks for the support, means a lot to hear that you're enjoying the journey with me. You’re right about that. There’s so much of that content too. Part of doing something unique, or fun to me, is creating solutions and the parts. Very therapeutic and cool to be able to say, I made that.
If you want it to chop, you need to degree the intake and exhaust cam to get the desired lobe separation angle... 108° would probably be very nice but that depends on valve interference
I'm going to play with the cams a little. Might even tighten the lobe separation angle just for fun, but ultimately, I'm going to see what it likes on the dyno.
Really awesome. I love watching your videos man. Crazy to see how much you have leveled up in a few short years too. I'd recommend a heat shield for that coolant hose by the turbo downpipe! I like the full exhaust idea, honestly.
Looking awesome, coming together brotha. To me, it's more amazing watching how much you know & can do yourself. You got SO much talent man. Thanks for the videos as always & thank you for the friendship following your journey
This build is amazing thank you for bringing us along. All the extra machine work u are doing is awesome Please keep and exhaust on it , no hood exit Do you think u will dyno it? I know in the past u have done a bunch of street tuning. Curious how much this all makes
Thanks! I really appreciate it and for the feedback on the exhaust. I plan to dyno the car soon. Looking for a shop to rent their dyno since I can’t seem to find anyone willing to be the tuner. I’ll just have to do it myself.
Great progress! I've been sort of planning mine out. Now that mine is a 2nd car, I can take it apart and start seeing whether or not I want to mess with the 1.8 or look into a 2.0T or 2.4 from a Verano. One guy has even stuffed an LFX 3.6L from the Impalas in there, lol. Please don'tever stop what you do! Peace brother!
I appreciate it! Guess it depends on the goals and your fabrication skills. Would be cool to see a swap, or even more getting involved with the 1.8. It's been a great little engine, just not a lot of supporting mods.
@@cmattdabrat My fabrication skills are about a 2/10 lol. I do have a couple of friends that are good with welding and metal work who have been teaching and letting me learn with their equipment. I do wish there was more support for the 1.8L as well! I sound like a broken record, but, Chevy missed a golden opportunity by not following the Cobalt SS with a Cruze SS. The 1st gen Cruzen look SO MEAN but have no guts hehe
Brother, Texas is moving away from state inspections. Starting the first of the year you won’t need to get your car inspected and you can literally just go to HEB and have it registered. Don’t make it a full out race car bc you don’t have to, look it up. Love the channel
Thank you. Maxpeeding rods makes a great turbo. Just be sure to give it unrestricted oil flow and cool it properly with coolant, and it'll last a long time.
Hell yeah, brotha , mad props , ya got it back going , i hope this time it tears up some bootie holes 😅 and dont hurt itself .. but that's the fun in it. Build, race ,break, repeat 😅.. much love matt , keep at it brotha 💪🏽 peace and love brotha, keep it rad, stay safe, and build on..l8r fam and keep having fun ✌🏽
@cmattdabrat that would be rad , and don't feel bad, bro . I have been building mine it's forged , boared over , port n polish , bullet oil pump , c.o.p. , full sequential injection and ignition (note a 91 mazda miata originally 1.6l) and a pulsar 4849g (g25-550) pushing 40-34 psi and not once has it seen a track or dyno or tuner , everything besides bearing the iron block , I have done myself.. but yet to get any real data lmfao .. so I'm with ya .... and 💪🏽 deff look forward to seeing some more rad stuff from ya brotha . Maybe one day I will update my build (thunk it been a year or more since updated my channel lol )... deff look forward to seeing ya get your goal, brotha , and glad all is going well with you and the little ones, from one father to another, much love and respect, bro
They don't do a smog check. Just plug into the ECU to make sure there are no DTC's. If there's any emissions DTC's, they'll fail it until it's fixed. All my emissions DTC are lit up lol
It does have a lope, it's just never gonna be super choppy because of the duration of these cams. You can help or hurt the lope by r*tarding or advancing the cam gears adjustability. I'm looking forward to some pull videos and maybe a track visit in the future! Stoked to see it start man! Been awhile. Also, I vote no on the hood exit exhaust. If you have to not go full exhaust, do a bumper exit. So if something happens and it sprays oil, you're not oiling down your tires, under the car, or the windshield.
I was just thinking that. Tightening the lobe separation with the adjustable cam gears, but the plan is to get the car on a chassis dyno and see what it likes instead of going after a particular sound. Definitely have plans to get the car out to the track soon! Maybe even next Friday. All we have is an 1/8 mile around, but I plan to make a trip this winter to a 1/4 mile. Want to make sure I've got the car as dialed as possible before making a road trip. Thanks for your vote! Great point.
@@cmattdabrat Definitely a solid plan. See what the car likes. You can move the powerband up and down at will, and generally the more you dial the cams in with the gears, the smoother/less lopey the idle will be. If all else fails, mess with timing/ignition cut(whatever fueltech calls it) at idle and give it a mustang style "ghost cam". Lol Appreciate the content brotha! Rooting for ya!
From the factory is has some webbing / support when they would fail. Should the block break there, I’ll do it in a future engine. Thanks for the comment!
with the VVT delete..i may be wrong but i think it will want to idle little higher anyways, the street ability will be basically gone lol its a Race car now, she wants to Sing!
Doesn't your ECU have an option to disable cam - crank sync in order to start? I have that disabled on my Maxxecu and it uses only crank signal to fire the engine up.
Im buying a turbo this week and its down to either the garret at 950 or this knock off garret for like 400 for my nb miata. And im so torn, the price is amazing on this but iv seen like a 30ish% bad review rating for this company/turbo as iv been researching them and watching review after review.. There are plenty of good reviews but there is a good chunk of turbos that failed on day one and that scares me lol
I've ran their T04E, GT35 in both their street and stock versions, and now this one. All of them without a blow off valve. Just don't put a restrictor on the journal style turbos. They have their own restrictors built in.

My vote is for full exhaust! Thanks Matt! Love the channel! 🤓

Enjoying these regular uploads. Car is definitely coming along nicely.

Yooo, I'm genuinely excited for this man I been watching for a long time now soo stoked to see what this is capable of and how far it will go. 🤘🤘🤘
I appreciate you watching! Excited to see how far this platform can go and share that with ya.
Long time viewer. I always like seeing your solution to the problem at hand. Good content.
Free flowing exhaust going out the back.
Thanks! I really appreciate it.

Wow, thanks! I was always the guy that took shop class. It’s fun putting those skills to use and continuing to learn.
Love it! can't wait to see where this keeps going.
Thanks! I'm planning on getting the car on a dyno soon and some racing within the times I can put down.
fender exit bull horn. less weight, more room for other stuff towards the rear
Definitely considering something along these lines.
Stock exhaust would be quieter and friendlier for DDing but out the hood/fender would be great for making passes
Might have to get an extra good for a strip setup and exhaust setup.

Glad I could inspire you!
Better video my friend congratulations
Thanks, I appreciate it!
Full exhaust with a boost activated cut out right below the engine
I like that idea!
Have a full muffler and keep up good work my friend
Thanks for the feedback!
what about a cut out right on the bend of the down pipe straight out the fender?
and much respect for doing something one of a kind and sharing your knowledge!
I really appreciate it!
🔥 content buddy
Thanks!
Hood exhaust. You already have full race car might as well go that route
Pretty tempted to.
Must suck to live in one of the bigger cities, other places in Texas don't have that emissions test requirement

It does, but then will guess. So it'll either be spot on, or 180º out.
I'd say out the back, full exhaust. 🖖
Thanks for chiming in!
Full exhaust pls
Finally😅
LOL! Wish things went faster but time definitely is scarce.
I would rather you take the time and try to work things out other than rushing content and messing up. Keep up the hard work👌
Machinists looking at this like "SQUARE?! YOU CALL THAT SQUARE?!" 😂😂😂
LOL, right! I'm sure. (Me coming in to get the work done), ugh, we got enough on our plate, why are you even doing this to this car. I don't get it. 🤣
