I got to say for some reason you tube is sugesting a lot of well drill videos, congratulations to the crew on being one of the only to correctly bentonite/concrete cap the well shell, a very enjoyable video
That promiscuity between water and poorly insulated electrical wiring is impressive. Not to mention the makeshift connection to the power grid. Nevertheless very experient people working in sub-ideal conditions.
So are we going to show these men some appreciation for doing all this hard work in church clothes and sandals .... or what?? These men are magical! Phenomenal job guys!
appreciation? i know how drilling is done and after seeing this video i can only say 1 thing: those people don't care about their lives. they cut live wires and connect to power, no power breakers, no isolation. those wires are on the ground in water while they are wearing sandals. no gloves, no helmets. no emergency stop buttons. there are 100 things that can go wrong at any moment

I read all these comments criticizing the lack of safety and the required improvements in technique and equipment. We need to understand that these folks do not have H&S committees or unlimited funding to acquire modern equipment, or the rest of the manufacturing "luxuries" and training sessions on the use of electrical installations. But, they have a few qualities that others in industrialized countries may not have. 1. Ingenuity and the ability to improvise in getting the job done. 2. At the end of the working day and on the way home, they can rightfully say to themselves,, "today I accomplished something". How many of us can say this?

12:13 textbook electrical splice. Both UL and OSHA approved. Nobody would ever get hurt doing it that way, nor would you overload the circuit or start an electrical fire. Great job! And I like how people are chiming in and praising your techniques too, cause they are safe and perfect.
Jesus Christ have you forgotten where they live, Come on Einstein, Tell us how you would do it with a generous budget 50 rupees allocated to electrical? Your worried about osha, I think they just want to have some food for their family’s this week.
first, fantastic team work! great process of showing the drilling to completion and removing the drilling fluid. i did not see a gravel pack put in. the rest of it shows real creativity to accomplish the drilling and finish to the well. the only thing i'm curious about is why a rope was not also attached to the pump as a 3rd fail safe for pump recovery
Thank you so much for your very deep observation. Gravel is not poured in as per the opinion of these borewell experts and also rope is not attached, only the attached pvc pipe will do the job of pulling out the pump for maintenance. Thank you so much for your valuable feedback.
Instead of gravel they put coarse sand along the pipe , but i do not expect this will sink deep enough to get near the filter. In our region we mostly use PE-pipe instead of the glued PVC-pipe, but that is probably a matter of money.PE-pipe is easier to instal , the pump can be easier pulled out again and this pipe is more reliable. No rope means lower price, so they can make the well instead of someone who uses a rope and asks more money.
No guess of water just picking a random point. But they know the condition of water in the area because they have a lot of experience of doing deep well drilling in the same area. Thank you so much for your comment.
I think if you dig deep enough wherever you are, you'll hit the water table sooner or later. We had what the old folks call "flow" in the Philippines in the old days. That's a well that flows up freely (without a pump) when it's high tide and stops when it's low tide. They were shallow wells (around 12 meters), which can usually be found in someone's backyard about 100 to 200 hundred meters away from the seashore.
Well drillers can often look at the tailings coming out of the hole and how they change with different layers of the earth. When they see a loose gravel/river sand followed by a clay they know they have hit a unground stream. The water moves through the loose material and can’t penetrate the clay layer. Plus as they said above most good drillers know the area and have a pretty good guess.
I've lived on the same property for my entire life. We have had two shallow wells on the property. The second well was about 25' deep. It produced good water for awhile. But, then it started to have a sulphur smell. I can assume that area septic tanks were leaching into the ground water. Needless to say, we abandoned the well and strictly use piped in( city) water. It's a lot easier to boil water if needed than to poison my family from contaminated ground water using a shallow well. Here a caveat. In the 1950's and '60s everyone used septic tanks. By the late 1970's sewer lines had replaced septic systems. So, the problem might not be prevalent anymore.
Thank you so much for your valuable and detailed comment. The upper level ground water is really not worth drinking because of the contamination, That's why this is the need of the time to drill well more deep like in this video. And this one is also for domestic use.
Wow. No need for an electrical junction box just strip the live wire insulation and hook yours onto it, no fuses/RCD required and then leave the patched up cable to lie in a big puddle of water you are standing in. Amazing
great to have this video. impressive work. quite a few things done in a sub-par way, but even those are impressive to some degree. it's interesting to see what they have the money for -- like the rig itself, the drill rods, the casing, clean graded sand for filter pack, the small diameter pipe for the pump, the pump itself. and to see what they skimp on -- a handle for the auger, decent splices for the electrical tap, a slow advance for the winch (he advances practically the entire thing by handcrank!), better lubricant, they get mud and surface debris into the annular pack, use their hands to mix concrete, and the zaniest thing of all to me -- these fire-softened plastic joints with barely-cured glue connections. they can't afford or don't want threaded fittings or even glued couplings. and then all that pipe hangs in the borehole before the glue even cures. wild, risky, gutsy. apparently they made it work! muddy water at the end, didnt produce the well right, but maybe it will run clean after a few hundred gallons of use. radical.

great to have this video. impressive work. quite a few things done in a sub-par way, but even those are impressive to some degree.
it's interesting to see what they have the money for -- like the rig itself, the drill rods, the casing, clean graded sand for filter pack, the small diameter pipe for the pump, the pump itself. and to see what they skimp on -- a handle for the auger, decent splices for the electrical tap, a slow advance for the winch (he advances practically the entire thing by handcrank!), better lubricant, they get mud and surface debris into the annular pack, use their hands to mix concrete, and the zaniest thing of all to me -- these fire-softened plastic joints with barely-cured glue connections.
they can't afford or don't want threaded fittings or even glued couplings. and then all that pipe hangs in the borehole before the glue even cures. wild, risky, gutsy. apparently they made it work! muddy water at the end, didnt produce the well right, but maybe it will run clean after a few hundred gallons of use. radical.
