Just wanted to say THANK YOU for the encouragement around the 13/14 minute mark! I've been working on glute activation to help with knee bursitis and was getting discouraged...thanks for admitting it's hard and for the reminder that it's not a wasted session even if I don't feel any improvement yet!

Great points about the glute activation. Glute excercises saved my upcoming season by fixing runner's knee that took me almost entirely of the bike for a month. If anyone is struggling with knee problems please follow the advices in this video. It's very likely that the quad is overpowering hammstring/glute and pulling too hard on the knee cap causing all sorts of tracking issues.

Please explain better the "90-90-99" procedure. Great video.

I'll dig into the forum to explore this subject but I'd also love to hear you all talk about this more, in more detail. Nate and Chad were missing from this discussion so I wonder what they might have to add.

Cleat position to the rear and concentrating on heel down while climbing helps me use my glutes. Needed this for patella pain and is successful, more power now also

I couldnt even walk down a gentle slope with out full quad lock up because of over quad dependancy. Strength training gluets without using your hamstrings or quads is the key. The feed back trick really works well. Good to hear I'm not the only one "dancing" in my car seat on the way to work. Cheers

Great content again guys. I'm just getting over an injury (pelvic obliquity) caused by poor glue strength.

This is very interesting! As other people have mentioned, please do a more in depth video on how to do this, both on and off the bike.

OK, love your video content. I have a zwift subscription which has training plans and daily rides, and sessions and races. I follow a day on at zone 5 and above based intervals, then a day off during the week. A day off as well. Race on Saturday and long ride on Sunday. WHAT can trainer road do that I am not doing now? All the best you all at TR

The question is - is cycling primarily classed as a knee extension or hip extension exercise - remember that you can’t even standup without your glutei - hence its incorrect to say your glute is switched off or not firing?

Can one of you demonstrate, or link to a credible muscle activation demonstration? Also, how much should this be done both in one sitting but also number if times per day/week?

We'll cover all this in an upcoming Blog article to accompany the video :)

So....when you say Muscle Activation Techniques, you're not talking about the same thing as MuscleActivation.com, are you? Seeing the headline of this video, I thought that's what this was about. And it seems you guys are talking about isometric contractions.....but something different and more watered down. Correct? Where did you get this info, otherwise?

how many watts does it differ for the hosts when the glutes are activated?

    • @TrainerRoad

ie before and after glutes are activated? Would be an interesting 'study' for sure!

  • @alanbullock1401

The glute and hamstring work in synergie - isolating one muscle is just plain wrong - activation of the glute stabilising the lumbar spine also needs input from the hamstrings - clearly depending on position the hamstrings will work more or less - for example glute bridge - try to not use your hamstring is impossible

With all due respect and sorry this comment has nothing to do with the actual topic on the video but man, Amber is gorgeous! 😆
