Appreciate his persistence in dispelling the Major=Happy/Minor=Sad myth. It really is an oversimplified way of looking at it and I’ve always felt that even someone who doesn’t study music could and should be able to understand that it’s way more about the relationships between chords that create a much larger variety of emotions.
I don’t really think it’s a myth, just a simple way to remember at least for me it is. It helps me when I’m identifying intervals to think “does this interval sound scary/unsettling or content/happy” to tell whether it’s major or minor, or augmented or diminished.
i like that he is generous in sharing the thought and education behind (his) music (and also very eloquent at breaking it all down). artists can often be so stingy about their art, but i think generosity serves us all best so we can learn to create more humane beauty! bravo nicholas!
This guy, whom I have never before heard of, just sat down with a piano and made me want watch three great movies. And I think that I find these movies great more so because of the music.
that last bit of music was the only mention of Beale Street in the whole video 😭 the score paired with the camerawork in the beginning of that film go so perfectly with each other. made me tear up out of pure beauty!
Wow Nicholas explained everything so well, I find it impressive when a composer can give simple and concise explanations of a musical process that is actually quite complex
I watched If The Beale Street Could Talk because of the music, I had listened to Agape once in the trailer and got obsessed with it but I couldn't find the movie anywhere so I waited and when I finally got to watch the movie it was magical there are so many moments in the score where it feels like your listening to life and not music because it's an amazingly different experience. He keeps making me want to watch new movies
Side note: His music for Beale Street was magic.
Victor Chang YES
One of my favorite movie soundtracks ever
Battle of the Sexes and Beale Street are masterworks!!! So brilliant
So stunning, he needs an oscar
even better than the movie imo

yeah Darth Vader's theme is literally in major
I have never learned anything about music but everything in this video was clearer than water, I may even start to have piano lessons because of this.

he should have two oscars by now for moonlight and beale street. ESPECIALLY beale street.
The amazing thing about Beale Street is that it wasn't even his best score of that year, Vice's music was incredible
This taught me more than Hans Zimmer's entire masterclass did, and this is free on RUclips
Britell is genius
Because Zimmer doesn't even write his own music
@@juleeez628
Yep, I know that's true for the most part.
😂 burn
@@juleeez628 he doesn't? please elaborate. I've fanboyed over Hans ZImmer since TDK days and would like to hear what you have to say.
Imagine having this much knowledge on any subject area. True talent.
imagine? How about you go out there and learn yourself so one day people can say the same about you
succession's theme has been in my head for 2 months now. He truly deserves that emmy
Should have won Best Score for If Beale Street Could Talk. Absolutely beautiful!
Jamie is dat you?

Totally agree!
All the success for those who are generous!

he looks so passionate about composing music, I'd love to see more of him teaching us
If Beale Street Could Talk had a beautiful score too! Britell is incredibly talented and inspiring!
The composer makes the movie scene remarkable. Salute to all composers and musicians.
part of why i loved moonlight was the one motif that played throughout and repeated itself in every one of the other individual scores.
I feel like a musical genius after listening to him, he passed his knowledge to me
I've not seen this film, but his music makes me want to 💕
He’ll have such an amazing career ahead of him
The moment I heard the chords for The King I started crying. I'll be exploring these chords for my next song.
that last bit of music was the only mention of Beale Street in the whole video 😭 the score paired with the camerawork in the beginning of that film go so perfectly with each other. made me tear up out of pure beauty!
His score for moonlight is soo good
I wish this person was my music teacher
This is outstanding. I had a channel years ago on breaking down musicians processes. But today I like analyzing the charm of people.
Wow Nicholas explained everything so well, I find it impressive when a composer can give simple and concise explanations of a musical process that is actually quite complex
I love Nicholas Britell
That was brilliant! The King was an amazing movie and I'll have to watch it again now.
A perfect score for a perfect movie. My top 1 of the 2010's
For years I have been putting off getting piano lessons... While watching this I signed up for them.
He really is that inspiring. After watching this, I felt more encouraged to go back to my piano again
I need to sign up too 😅
I've been waiting for this video😭😭😭✨
Amazing! That is so cool to watch how someone learns a hard composition!
Little's Theme is probably my favorite piece of film score ever.
VANITY FAIR I OWE YOU MY LIFE
Now his powers can become ours
great film and the score is beautiful.

He keeps making me want to watch new movies
I have listened to the soundtracks he has made so many times.
Love the moonlight album, nicholas the GOAT !!!!!
He’d be a great music teacher
Did anyone ever notice that this composer’s theme for Andor is the same melody as Donna Summers’s once upon a time? 😂
the music in the king was exceptional. Made the movie
The score for The King deserves more attention
Bro he make agape and only for that he is so good
why does this video have so little views??
This guy is a genius. Simple and plane
Love those Soundtracks. And Madonna seems to be a fan, too.
I saw moonlight and I clicked . Movie was done and one of my favourite souls hello stranger was in it 🥵🥵🥵
King dropped this 👑 while he was playing
KING!!!
Okay, now do Justin Hurwitz next.
What's the chord progression at 0:15. Beautiful haunting sound.
He's a virtuoso
His hands are so clean, delicate and seductive.
Having him working with you on a film is coming to a knife fight with a bazooka
Thought they meant spotlight moonlight
Music was half of this movie
Spotlight uh moonlight uh
Thats not the moonlight I knowwww
Hi guys
what chords did he play in the beginning
Exactly, I want to know that too. It was also played in the second episode of the SERVANT.
great
Just coming to see comments of people sayin “i thought this was gonna be x his song” lol
Somebody likes Castlevania.
Can we do a sequel? And a third one?? Lol
ok
Love :)
👏👏
im not smart enough to even pretend to understand
but have you ever heard of Lorde?
Moonlight uh spotlight uh
Wait what?
👍👍👍👍👍
9:50 what did he just say?
Do you have a masterclass ???
AndoOoOOoooOoor
I thought this was the guy who did xxxtentation's song
He reminds me of those genius rpg composers. I mute them and listen to mrsuicidesheep future bass instead.
Oh so we're doing The King spoilers as well? Since there's no mention of that movie in the title I assumed the warning only pertained to Moonlight!
You can literally stop watching the video as soon as it's mentioned?
How dare he not mention Succession though, what a waste
There's separate video focused on that alone
FRISTTT
