Operation Harvest Moon - the rescue of 140+ small dogs and a single kitten

September 18, 2024, MADISON, FLORIDA - Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), a national animal protection nonprofit, assisted the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Services Division in the rescue of over 140 dogs (including puppies), mostly rat terriers, chihuahuas, and mixes from cruel conditions in and around a home in Madison County where a backyard breeding mill/hoarder had been selling dogs over the internet. Additionally, one kitten only days old was found alive nursing on a dog along with a litter of puppies. The property owner was arrested without incident and taken to Madison County Jail and booked on 142 counts of Cruelty to Animals/Neglect Serious Injury or Death. All of the animals have been legally surrendered to Animal Rescue Corps.
The dogs show many obvious signs of neglect common in hoarding and neglectful breeding mills, including internal and external parasites, eye infections, ear infections, skin infections, mammary infections, hernias, dehydration, anemia, severe dental, overgrown nails, untreated injuries, pregnancy, partial traumatic amputation, heart failure, and diarrhea. One dead puppy and one dead kitten were also found on the property and removed as evidence.
“Addressing animal cruelty is a responsibility we take with the utmost seriousness, recognizing that animals are victims too,” said Madison County Sheriff David Harper. “We are thankful to Animal Rescue Corps for providing the crucial resources necessary to ensure the safety of these animals and to support our community in protecting animals.”
"Operation Harvest Moon underscores the importance of collaboration between local authorities and national animal protection organizations like Animal Rescue Corps whenever large-scale situations of animal suffering come to light," said Tim Woodward, Executive Director of Animal Rescue Corps. "After a lifetime of neglect, these animals will soon be able to thrive as valued family members."
The dogs and the kitten were transported to ARC’s Rescue Center, about 30 minutes east of Nashville, Tenn. Each animal in this rescue operation, dubbed Operation Harvest Moon, will receive a thorough veterinary exam, appropriate vaccinations, and necessary medical treatments before being matched and transported to trusted shelter and rescue partner organizations that will ultimately adopt them into loving homes.
Donations and volunteers are urgently needed to help these dogs and other animal victims of mistreatment, abuse, neglect, and disaster.

Being a lover of chihuahua's since 1972 is breaks my heart to see so many suffering. And the kitten is such a mystery, did the momma cat move her babies and forget Hardy and the chi momma pick it up when she heard his crying? I cannot imagine what would have happened to them when Helene hit them!
