  • Raymond Motadi is the young writer behind the short film, Feminine Lotus, which premieres on June 10, 2020 (Wednesday) on SABC 1. The film tells the story of a trans woman whose life undergoes dramatic change once she moves to Johannesburg. It's also a love story.
We spoke to Raymond about being one of 10 young screenwriters who won a R250, 000 grant from the National Film and Video Foundation (in partnership withe the SABC and Department of Trade & Industry) to make their films. We also spoke about representation of queer experiences on mainstream media (it doesn't get bigger than the national broadcaster!) and why he wants to be our "gay superhero".

I watched the film and hope there'll be a sequel because the film left us with a cliffhanger though. Congratulations on the success thus far
