Black Queer Love

We’re so excited to soon be launching our online docu-series, simply called Black Queer Love.
Inspired by @blacklovedoc and the works of the New York Times’ Jamal Jordan (@lostblackboy), author Darnell L. Moore (@mooredarnell), and singer-songwriter and actor Nakhane (@nakhaneofficial), among many others, we sought to tell the rarely told stories about black queer love. We were interested to find how, in spite of the condemnation, misunderstanding, ridicule, and just the general demands of every day life, some black and queer couples make this love thing work.
While this is an ongoing project, we’re excited by the conversations we have already had with various black and queer South African couples about how they found (and continue to find) comfort and love in each other. How they dealt with homophobia, family dynamics, infidelity, distance, etc.

I’m interested to learn more about their experiences. I am seriously considering moving to SA (JoBurg), and have visited 5 times. I know many Black American, same gender loving (gay) men who want to move and become ex-pats in SA. We all have questions related to how different it would be to live/love there as black, gay men from America. As you may know (in America), we face intense homophobia from our own black community and obvious racism from white people; and especially in the era of trump. Any insight would greatly appreciated.
