A big thank you for all these very interesting explanations on this 16 inch LightBridge telescope. I have owned the old 12 inch model for 12 years. Meade LightBridge are great telescopes, quick to assemble, convenient to transport. I am really a fan!
I just purchased an older lightbridge 16 and I also came from a 10". I have to say I absolutely love using the 16. I sets up in 4.5 minutes, and the movement is buttery smooth. I never thought I'd own a scope this big but believe it or not I got it for around $150 and spent $375 on a re-coat. BEST FIND OF MY LIFE.
I had the older version. Sure miss it. Now I have to buy the new one. Loved it. Wait until you put a Nagler in it. WOW! Never failed to gather a line for a look at star parties. Don't know where you store it. I started in the garage. Then built a cart to roll it out. Then built a roll off building (large doghouse) on a slab. Best accessory ever. Another great project is an equatorial platform. I thought my next dob would be a 20", but the price is so good on the Mead 16" I'm going to pour the slab for a new roll off and order a new 16" as soon as I get home.
@@lookupwayupobservatory3813 The obvious choice is an appreciation of the career of Tom Brady? :) Well I am just a newbie in astronomy (from rainy England). What about James Webb or chatting about the different types of scopes. Maybe just experiment with a few things to see the response.
I use to carry mine in my semitruck. Base took up the passenger seat. It wouldn't fit through the door of my next truck, so I built a roll off building 8x4x4 on a slab at home for it. Git washed away in a flood 3 years ago.
Great video! I’m interested in one of these but never dealt with dobsonian, can you do a tutorial on how to position yourself to actually see through the eyepiece in various positions/angles? Thanks!!
I Owned one and I Am the one who actually Discovered The New Torpisium in the Orion Nebula in Neosho Missouri back Some Years Ago with This Scope. However, I never got recognized for this discovery,. Maybe someday I will. I loved this reflector scope. But after a while the particle board starts separating from the Moisture from being outside at night,. And after a while the bearings just doesn't roll very good but the optics was excellent! And I'm proud to say I made that Discovery with this telescope,.I wish I could afford to get another one.
I never take it apart. When I move it, my wife and I lift the whole truss tube assembly off of the base ,then we lift the base onto a flatbed cart and then we lift the truss tube onto the base. We use the metal side bearings to lift most of the weight. The trusses are really strong but the bottom end with the mirror is very heavy!
I connected my zwo camera and it had no effect. It is heavy in the back end... you can tighten the tension knob if it starts to sag but it shouldn't be a problem.
My camera is not even close to straight viewing...I would need to stack many images to be comparable. later this month I am going to do a 4 telescope comparison that should give you a good idea of what the scope can do.
Is the resolving power (for the Moon) due to the light gathering ability? Do you stop down the aperture when looking at the Moon? How do you not blow out your eyeball?
The resolving power of a telescope increases with the size of the mirror. The moon is very bright however I find if you approach the eyepiece slowly, your eye can adjust and you can handle it! I like to use some filters as well. Red is the crowd favorite
@@eladlevy8852 you basically end up with a stack of two big circles and two square side panels and two very small cross panels. All of the panels are one inch thick. Thanks
Nothing out of the ordinary, an assortment of good eyepieces. I love my orange color filter for mars and Jupiter. If you don't like red dot finders, you can add whatever you prefer... I am hoping to do a follow-up video soon.

Collimating or alignment of the secondary only doesn’t make sense too me...typically if you move the secondary to align it with the primary, then you will need to align the primary optical path to the focuser... Still, it’s an impressive looking scope, thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Thank you for sharing. I had the opportunity to see a rocket launch in 2018. Memorable experience. I uploaded a pretty fun montage of the journey to my page.
Nice Big Dob scope....Might be an optical Illusion, but your Top tube Assembly doesn't Look parallel & Square to the base Mirror tube....You Sure all is Parallel & Square ??
Awesome telescope! Isn't interesting how all of the worlds largest/strongest land mammals (mountain gorilla, elephants, rhinos, hippo to name a few) are 'vegan', worst yet - 'raw vegans'! lol

What a deal!
😲 wow! Nice find. I barely missed out of an Orion 16in GoTo for $500.
Thanks for the review. Just purchased mine. Should arrive tomorrow. Cannot wait to test it out.

That 16" telescope is huge! planets and deep space objects will really stand out 🔭 greetings from the UK ☺
Wish you would make more videos, you have a naturally great way of presenting things.
any suggestions?

Keep up the the great reviews. I love the Tom Brady remarks!
This MUST TO BE my next telescope!
Spot on with the tom Brady joke. Good review. I am looking at getting the same telescope. Thank you for great info.
Do you bring the pieces of the telescope alone or do you need someone to help you ?
Thanks
My Wife helps me lift it. It is heavy and awkward😀

With this scope, get a good 3 step step stool. And a good hight adjustable dob chair.
Can you make a video about the orion 10 inch one it seems like a nice telescope
I can do that. Maybe this weekend...

super cool! particle board always sucks!
Is it safe to lift with the truss tubes on? They won't bend or break under the pressure?

"unlike this little guy here, this is a Orion 10" telescope"
Me with a 8" by sky watcher:
Where can I buy It?
I would search telescope sales. Ontario telescope is the only one that I know for sure is still open
also watch facebook marketplace and kiji for used one
Hello
Did you have a problem of wood from the rocker that swells with humidity?
no problems yet, the particle board is sealed pretty good with the arbarite material...
You can always spray all the wood parts with Satin Clear Coat before assembly.
nice review mister!
with 2" eyepieces + barlow, does it loose its balance?
I connected my zwo camera and it had no effect. It is heavy in the back end... you can tighten the tension knob if it starts to sag but it shouldn't be a problem.
Im assuming the primary mirror has the center marked?
Great video! Have my eye on the 10 in
My older one didn't, but that wasn't hard to do. I used a cat's eye colimmator and the views were awesome. Invest in some Nagler EPs.
any possibility of seeing some images? just raw would be good rather than stacked , to give an idea of what your eye can see
My camera is not even close to straight viewing...I would need to stack many images to be comparable. later this month I am going to do a 4 telescope comparison that should give you a good idea of what the scope can do.
Dobs are not good ap scopes. Better to get a little 70 or 80mm on a good gem. But 16" and up scopes rule for visual.

Resolving power come with aperture.
Thanks for the review. can the base disassemble for transport in car ?
Yes it comes apart without tools
@@lookupwayupobservatory3813 is it possible to make a video / show photo of how base is looks like when disassembled? Thanks !

Normally I would agree, but in this case, I was making the same tiny adjustment to the secondary...
Great review of this telescope. Don’t think the irony of you someone wearing crocks making fun of vegans was lost on me. Ha ha
I'm just here for your entertainment :)
Can you redo this in landscape format? I might finish watching it!!
Hello, can i ask how tall you are and what high is the view in zenith? Greetings from Germany
Hi Enduro, I am 5 foot 7 on a good day! The eye piece is about 71 inches at zenith. I made a 9 inch step that seems good for everyone.

Just an illusion... I use a laser collimator and I rarely have to make adjustments.
They're worth their dollar a day 🤣 lmao
Fucking sweet
Ein schönes Teleskop aber halt auch schon recht schwer.
@ 2:13 no plastic all metal then @ 2:52 the base is pressed wood? 😑.
Just kidding 😂
Tom Cruise has no wife so unfortunately he cannot buy one of these. Sad
Mead in China ? 🤣🤣
Lol
Clicked for the telescope review, left disgusted with the jokes about child labor and the rest.
