    A big thank you for all these very interesting explanations on this 16 inch LightBridge telescope. I have owned the old 12 inch model for 12 years. Meade LightBridge are great telescopes, quick to assemble, convenient to transport. I am really a fan!

    I just purchased an older lightbridge 16 and I also came from a 10". I have to say I absolutely love using the 16. I sets up in 4.5 minutes, and the movement is buttery smooth. I never thought I'd own a scope this big but believe it or not I got it for around $150 and spent $375 on a re-coat. BEST FIND OF MY LIFE.

    I had the older version. Sure miss it. Now I have to buy the new one. Loved it. Wait until you put a Nagler in it. WOW! Never failed to gather a line for a look at star parties. Don't know where you store it. I started in the garage. Then built a cart to roll it out. Then built a roll off building (large doghouse) on a slab. Best accessory ever. Another great project is an equatorial platform. I thought my next dob would be a 20", but the price is so good on the Mead 16"
    I'm going to pour the slab for a new roll off and order a new 16" as soon as I get home.

      I use to carry mine in my semitruck. Base took up the passenger seat. It wouldn't fit through the door of my next truck, so I built a roll off building 8x4x4 on a slab at home for it. Git washed away in a flood 3 years ago.

    I Owned one and I Am the one who actually Discovered The New Torpisium in the Orion Nebula in Neosho Missouri back Some Years Ago with This Scope. However, I never got recognized for this discovery,. Maybe someday I will. I loved this reflector scope. But after a while the particle board starts separating from the Moisture from being outside at night,. And after a while the bearings just doesn't roll very good but the optics was excellent! And I'm proud to say I made that Discovery with this telescope,.I wish I could afford to get another one.

    Is it safe to lift with the truss tubes on? They won't bend or break under the pressure?

    • @lookupwayupobservatory3813
      @lookupwayupobservatory3813  2 месяца назад

      I never take it apart. When I move it, my wife and I lift the whole truss tube assembly off of the base ,then we lift the base onto a flatbed cart and then we lift the truss tube onto the base. We use the metal side bearings to lift most of the weight. The trusses are really strong but the bottom end with the mirror is very heavy!

    Hello
    Did you have a problem of wood from the rocker that swells with humidity?

    • @lookupwayupobservatory3813
      @lookupwayupobservatory3813  2 года назад

      no problems yet, the particle board is sealed pretty good with the arbarite material...

    • @GregoryPecaut
      @GregoryPecaut 8 месяцев назад

      You can always spray all the wood parts with Satin Clear Coat before assembly.

    with 2" eyepieces + barlow, does it loose its balance?

    • @lookupwayupobservatory3813

      I connected my zwo camera and it had no effect. It is heavy in the back end... you can tighten the tension knob if it starts to sag but it shouldn't be a problem.

    any possibility of seeing some images? just raw would be good rather than stacked , to give an idea of what your eye can see

    • @lookupwayupobservatory3813
      @lookupwayupobservatory3813  4 года назад +1

      My camera is not even close to straight viewing...I would need to stack many images to be comparable. later this month I am going to do a 4 telescope comparison that should give you a good idea of what the scope can do.

    • @GregoryPecaut
      @GregoryPecaut 8 месяцев назад

      Dobs are not good ap scopes. Better to get a little 70 or 80mm on a good gem. But 16" and up scopes rule for visual.

    Is the resolving power (for the Moon) due to the light gathering ability? Do you stop down the aperture when looking at the Moon? How do you not blow out your eyeball?

    • @lookupwayupobservatory3813
      @lookupwayupobservatory3813  4 года назад +1

      The resolving power of a telescope increases with the size of the mirror. The moon is very bright however I find if you approach the eyepiece slowly, your eye can adjust and you can handle it! I like to use some filters as well. Red is the crowd favorite

    Collimating or alignment of the secondary only doesn’t make sense too me...typically if you move the secondary to align it with the primary, then you will need to align the primary optical path to the focuser... Still, it’s an impressive looking scope, thanks for sharing 👍🏼
