    Anytime you need a crane and linear rails to install a piece of astronomy equipment is a good day(s). We hope it brings you many years of good service!

    The scope is quiet, but what about the dome. That one looks much newer and probably better engineered than the domes I am used to, but I still suspect it will be noisy. I assume observation is all through sensor and not eyepiece. Great looking setup, have fun.

      I agree. Fortunately the people handling the mirror were all wearing new latex gloves. I was part of the team placing the mirror and it was a bit scary moving something that took 3+ months to produce.

      As far as i know the telescope alone retails for 650,000$ not included freighter/shipping costs or services. The ash dome isn't included either.

    • @pmgodfrey

      The telescope (PW1000) cost $650,000. That probably does not include installation...but that wouldn't cost much in comparison to the cost of the scope.

      @@benghazi4216 -- 26 years and incredibly happy. If I had a reason to save $150,000 while spending $550,000, I'm going to get divorced. I can't spend hundreds of thousands on one thing and expect my wife to be pleased. There's a tremendous amount of discussion...now if you have the ability to throw that much money into something and it doesn't affect the household, I'm super happy for you. Enjoy it.
      We do spend hundreds of thousands a year on real estate with our rental properties and homes we flip. But a multi hundred thousand dollar telescope would kill us financially.

    The mirror thickness to diameter should be 1:5 for instruments larger than 250 mm.
    05:35
    The thickness of the glass of this telescope is 3 times less than required.
    In addition, it is clear that the glass has a layered structure and is most likely glued.
    If you do something, do it well, and not for advertising purposes or something worse.

    • @ObservatorySolutions
      @ObservatorySolutions  10 месяцев назад +3

      The primary mirror is not glued. The 1-meter primary mirror is solid Light-Weighted Fused Silica glass. The backside is CNC machined to remove glass, reducing weight and allowing faster cooling times.
