You can pull a vase over from the side of the grove. Open the vase menu next to the idol. After casting Darkness or Fog Cloud, you can drop the Idol directly into the vase. This will cause the Idol to not be in your inventory if the druids accuse you. Then you can move the vase until you get out of line of sight from the druids. Collect your prize!
Quick note: one of the faster ways to split after stealing or pickpocketing is to fast travel. You can then wait far away while you watch the nearby people run around for a minute or so before they forget about it.
@@Ianistoocommon it only triggers if Aradin stays at the grove, you have to go talk to him and then one of the Tiefling kids will nick something off Barth one of Aradins companions.
Building off this it obviously also only works if Barth survived the initial fight that triggers when you first find the grove. His buddies will try and keep each other alive, but it is possible for any of them to die there
21st December - Can confirm it still works in Tactician Right click on idol, then pan your camera so the steal option is right next to your camp menu. From there; Steal > Camp Menu > Go to Camp If you've done it fast enough, no cutscene will play. When you return to the grove, the druids are still chanting as if the idol never left, congrats on your cheesed ring!
Thanks for confirming! Also great tip about panning the camera!! In the vast amount of times I tested this with different characters and after each patch I not once thought to do that!
This did NOT work for me but what did was having Wyll cast darkness, my bard play and distract by drawing a crowd, and having Astarion cloak with invisibility, going into hide mode and sneaking up into the shroud of darkness to steal it and then we quickly ran away.

Fog cloud works just as well as darkness does. i stole it while allready in turn based mode. after that i went a few meters away (whre the 3 Tieflings are standing), resumed to real time mode, and just watched it. if you dont remove the cloud, they will all just dalm down and dont even remember that there was an idol. (thats after killing kagha, like in method 2, mentioned here)

I wanted to offer another data point to help anyone that may be struggling with "timing" or other methods above. Just pause for turn-based mode, swipe the Idol, maybe dash away(Thief Cunning Dash is cool), as soon as you unpause just hit the "Go To Camp" button. This way seems to give more time for slow old people like myself. My twitch ain't what it used to be. Make sure to have your talker situated near the Idols location in the Grove so you can switch back, pass the DC 15 Deception/Intimidation check to convince Druids and you're good to go. Also, if you want to save tieflings make sure to do it after revealing Kagha so that the cutscene for the Druid/Tiefling battle goes away.

if you find the fight with the woads and mud mephits particularly challenging (like if you 're level 3 or lower), one way i found to make this fight a breeze is to use protection for evil and good. you can find a bunch of scrolls in the crypt where you meet up with withers the first time. have each character cast prot:evil+good on them self. the next part is to begin the fight on top of the rock in the water just next to the pier where you enter the shadow druid zone. there's an outcropping. just jump your characters onto it. you need a 10 strength at least to be able to jump that high, or just enhanced leap on everyone outside of the fight first then just jump them all up. the protection will make the mephits miss virtually every if not all attacks on you. there wont be any room on the platform for them to fly up onto which means they wont blast you with their aoe death effect. the woads wont have melee range to hit you plus they dont have a ranged attack. all you have to do is contend with being ensnared, but it's not even the good ensnare with deals damage. just gives you disadvantage on some attacks. w/e just stand up there and blast them with firebolts (they are vuln fire) until they are dead. takes no time at all, and gives really easy xp at early levels.
Another note regarding this whole sequence!!! If you manage to save Aradin's friends at the gate, one of the kids will steal from Barth. If you enter this dialogue, and choose not to intervene and let Barth slap the kid, Mol will have no interest in you (in fact, she turns everyone against you, making the Tieflings in the grove temporarily hostile if you do not succeed a check). You have to stand up for the kid if you want Mol's favour.
@smol_pupper123 Agreed. You don't have to help the kid steal, you just have to object Barth hitting Mol. Then Barth will realize he's overreacting, and you get the best resolution. Mol admits it reminded him of a locket that his mother had (he's an orphan), and Barth was an orphan too, it was his mother's locket, so he has a change of heart & tells the kid to keep the locket. You get maximum follower approves from this outcome. Also, you only have to save Aradin and Barth, the others aren't so important (well, and Will, but he probably wouldn't die in that fight).
there´s even a fourth kid that belongs to that quest. If you play a Thief and the other kid at the "shop" (where one kid wants to sell you a "magic ring") tries to pickpocket you, pass a test and then don´t blame the kid for trying to steal from you. Tell him he just had bad luck this time. Mol will also refer to this situation and thanks you for beeing kind to this young boy.
Yea, I skipped it on my main play through, I was going ro do it right at the end of act one, I didn't realize you can miss it. I would have gone back a save to get it but I was several hours past that point, I was not happy haha.

I stole the idol after I dealt with the leaders at the goblin camp, just as long as you don’t rest after speaking to Halisin at the grove. The idol is still out but the druids aren’t preforming the ritual making it easier to either bard performance or minor illusion the attention of the druids away
That's good to know! On my main play through I went straight from clearing the camp to speaking with Halisin and right to camp. I completely forgot about the idol until much later.
you just need to enter turn based mode to steal it then you don't need to worry about timing. Once you have it, remove turn based mode and quicly warp to camp. This works when stealing anything in the game. Theres noone there to blame, and after about 30 seconds they reset.
HA the image of a bunch of Corgi's in the grove is amazing! If any modders read this comment please make a mod with a bunch of Corgi's running around in the grove! As a side note I swear this is how they say her name in game, but I am horrible with names so I would not be the least bit surprised if I am butchering it! It could also be the accents of the voice actors I am hearing wrong too.
What worked for me was putting a person at the top of the elevator. I stole it using darkness in turn based mode, and immediately sent it to the party member at the top of the elevator
Yes! just be sure to do it before having the party and the Tieflings leaving the grove. I unfortunatly did not do it before that on my main play through and missed actually getting the ring haha. I still have the idol however.
You can steal the idol back from Mol after the quest and throw it back on the pedestal. Roleplaying-wise it's like you "borrowed" it to dupe Mol who would probably appreciate the fact you one-upped her, and the druid's are none the wiser.
@@faerora I think so, I've made it work twice probably still does. You need to be a little quick like have someone ready to pick it up as people do notice and start running around. None even suspects you pretty funny.
You can cast fog instead of darkness to steal the idol and you can go to camp right after and come back instead of using turn based mode for the last method

In the latest patch it seems they fixed the methods for going to the camp or using fog. I managed to do it after exposing kagha though, then they just treat it like a normal pickpocketing (the sentry looks around for a while for the thief) and no cutscene triggers
It still works for me, the timing just has to be bang on. Although it could also be that I am using a game I started before the patch? When I have a chance I will test it with a brand new playthrough. Edit: just tested with a new play game, I can confirm as of Patch 3 it still works.
This is how I did it. Exposed Kagha and then walked up to the idol while disguised and ran away. 😂 As far as I can tell there’s no negative consequences to the grove as long as you complete the Druid quest line first.
This doesn’t work. I tried it literally 50 times in all kinds of different ways. You can’t go invisible and even with darkness and fog cloud the cutscene triggers the battle immediately. After you expose Kargha if you try and take it it also triggers a cutscene allowing you to either attack them or apologize for trying to take it. Must have been patched in the last day I’m assuming
Humm that is odd, maybe your game is bugged? (edit: just thought of this, I am on PC, Maybe the going to camp option does not work on console? But you should be able to get it after exposing or killing Kagha) I just now tried it, I started a brand new game, on tacticion with the latest patch, and was able to take the idol first try. You do have to be very quick going to camp which is why I recomend you stand away from the idol so when you click to take it you have time to hover over the go to camp button. After you expose Kagha you should be able to steal it like any other item. If you do it in cover and leave the area before they have a chance to see you can get away. You are supposed to beable to take this idol without causing a war, Mols quest is specifically that.
You can steal the idol *without* the Druids attacking the Tieflings?! I kind of just genocided the Druids with a combination of explosive barrels and placing groups of characters in places to reduce Tiefling casualties. Though I feel like killing all the stuck up Druids is its own reward, so I’m probably just gonna keep doing it my way.
Thank you, glad you liked it. Good question! It really depends on what items you use and don't use, for example if you never plan on being a bard use the items specifically for them for Gale. Or there are items that are specifically used for if you are siding with the absolute, if you don't plan on that you can give them up. I don't quite remember which ones I gave up other than it was an item I was using but then found a better one. I also did specifically go and steal magic items I didn't actually want to use but were able to be used for Gale. Any item that Gale can consume says so in its description. Also there are so many magic items in this game and they get better as you go so I dont think you can go wrong with most of everything. I also think it is usually a safe bet to give him anything you can buy from a trader.
Just place your Tav a short distance from the base of the stairs and click the idol to pick it up. As Tav is walking over click/hold the camp menu and slide up to the Go to Camp button. The second the move animation starts on the idol release the mouse button.
this didnt work on my play through i had the quest to steal the idol and as soon as you steal the idol the druids just start the tiefling genecide and mol wont give the ring shes just freaked out everyones getting killed
You do have to be super quick stealing it. Getting the timing right can take a couple tries. You need to hit go to camp as the idol is in the air before it actually is in your inventory or they start the attack. Alternatively you can steal it after you confront Karga when they are not using it for the ritual anymore.
I don't know whether it still works or not but I tossed mine into a basket nearby then moved the basket out of sight then grabbed the idol out of the basket.
Or, instead of trying to walk upto to the idol and take in plain as day, maybe use one of the many skills that creates a cloud to hide in when taking it? Then portal away as you like. There is also the option of trying to using magehand shenanigans (which as a side note, can be used in the burning INN to reach the locked chest in the room thats literally on fire by dragging it out of the room). There is no INTENDED way to really do much of anything in this game, as the developers did their best to try and allow full freedom and creativity. Even accounting for the player giving the idol to Mol, then literally STEALING it from HER which includes FREAKING DIALOGUE for doing so.
at leaat as of yesterday (the 22 of sept) you can actually buy the idol off mol. this will result in the same dialogue as if you stole it but is much easier to do. lol
Once you stop the ritual the mage hand is a good option too! I use my mage hand to steal lots of things, just never actually tried it for this case. Great suggestion on using it for the burning inn! I never considered that. By "not intended" I only meant that you are not supposed to get the idol while the ritual is happening without triggering the druids and tieflings fighting, I am fairly certain they will patch this at some point. Because to get it to work with out the fight you have to time it very well and it seems odd you can steal something they are actively focusing on without any repercussions (that also has a whole scene about punshing someone for trying to take it). I also found trying to steal it with darkness or fog or anything else while the ritual is happening triggers the fight unless you teleport out right away. But yes you can absolutely take the idol right away if you dont care about the fight between the druids and tieflings. Or wait until the ritual is done or the tieflings are leaving to take it then. I agree with you Larian Studios did an amazing job of giving us many many options if how we choose to play!
Aye, the Druids are a bunch of cowards and kind of violent nature loving hippies. This latest play through, I decided I had enough of the whole lot and planned out their utter destruction without losing a Tiefling besides the one who dies in the cut scene. I called it the Druid Solution. I first raided the Goblin camp, placed quite a few strategic firewine barrels and the explody other barrels, put my best killing companions at certain spots, and then wiped out the druids I could beforehand using fog and silence.. Nettie (or whatever her name), her poisoning ass, was the first and easiest to kill. I made sure to use the poison she gave me (tried to kill me) on her. I didn't shed a tear. The next one to go was that over priced stupid Druid trader trying to turn a buck on others misfortune. Damn fraggin hippies. After that, came time to implement the Druid solution. Put the barrels around. Took the statue and one well placed fire arrow at the exact right time and boom. Near all wiped out in a glorious haze of exploding fire. I knew I did it right when a couple inspiration points flowed in. The head druid dude when I rescued him even seemed to agree with me after I told him I killed them all down to the last man (except for the one who was always kind of cool and decided to allign with the Tieflings). He was like, "What? You killed them all? Why?" They suck man. Hateful bunch of nature loving violent cowards. The whole lot. "Oh, Yeah. Your kind of right, honestly. I'm bringing in new management for the place. Best thing for the grove is a new slate." "Right on, man. I was hoping you would kind of see it that way because it sure would have sucked for you if you hadn't." Gotta say, though. Walking through the place with the Tieflings deciding to head out is kind of sad. I got the whole place to myself. I don't know where Rath went too. Maybe the memories of the Druid solultion is too painful. Either way, the Tieflings lived and those dirty rotten violent cowardly nature hippie freaks didn't. Boom. It was the only way to go. And it will be the only way to go from here on out.
Killing is so easy to do. Doing investigation and diplomacy takes more finesse. I can easily tell which players just use violence as a solution versus those that like the more non violent approach. As this video shows, Kargha and the druids can be made through persuasion/diplomacy that makes the druids stop the ritual and allow the Tieflings to stay. Of course, the tieflings still need to travel to BG though.
@@rjhemedes Aye, I did that the first time around but the cowards hid when the Goblins came. Between their overt bullying violence and their inbred cowardice, I was like not this time you nature loving hippie bastards. And killing them all and keeping all the Tieflings alive is kind of challenging. Many of the Tieflings have only 8 health. It took some planning and strategic setup to pull it off without getting a Tiefling killed. But kill them I did. I think I will every single time from here on out. They don't deserve to live.
I just used command to make her come in the room, then closed the door and merced her, then did the same to all but the healer lady, no war outside and no more kagara
Honestly killing kagha after outing her as a shadow Druid was one of the most satisfying aspects of act 1, she’s just such an unlikable b*tch, I didn’t even bother trying to turn her against the shadow druids.
If your Tav is a Druid you need to out her, fight the shadow Druids, and make sure she survives. She’ll make you a Faithwarden and give you the rare Pale Oak staff!
Kagha, She is the main druid leader when you first get to the grove. I am very possibly butchering her name! Although I swear thats how they say it in game too.
Weird, I have not had that happen to me, but I know the timing is really tough to get and if you miss it the cut scene plays. I wouldent be suprised if they patch this so you cant take it while they are performing the ritual.
You don't have to worry much about having the idol....the moment you go to sleep without placing it in ur traveling chest and that inside another chest/pouch the power will go forever and there is no cheat or mod to fix it
I thought I heard they patched that? Could be wrong though, I have never tested. I personally don't like having the idol with me due to it activating on every one I pass.
Yes you can get in and she will not be friendly. You just need to go rescue Mirkon or save Arabella and she should be ok with talking to you. If you failed both of those quests, I am not too sure if its possible anymore. Maybe try talking to her again if/when you end the ritual.
If you plan on taking the idol after dealing with Kagha sneak and distracting would probably work well. I don't know about Invisibility other than it does not work at all before you stop the ritual, you just become visible when you grab the idol. And you can't sneak or distract to take the idol when the ritual is happening without triggering the fight. By jumping to camp right away you are essentially exploiting the game to get the idol without the fight.
I think it's better to kill Kagha (after exposing her), rather than getting her to change her mind. She drops a good loot item, and frankly she's better off 'gone'. The only reward for getting her help in the fight with the shadow druids, is an easier fight. And putting her down frankly works equally well in a light or dark side playthrough. If you convince her to switch, Halsin just gives her "probation" for high treason & attempted mass murder. My oath of vengeance paladin does not approve.
If you still have the waypoints to get back to the grove you can go get the idol, Unfortunatly once the teiflings leave the grove you cant get the ring from Mol anymore from what I have seen. There is a point of no return which you will loose all the waypoints for the act 1 map, after this point I dont hink there is any way back unless some one has made a mod for it?
meh, unless you mod the game game to be even more difficult I don't see the point of getting this ring unless you are going for an Evil character run and just....take it.
Makes Mol a lot more friendlier to you for one thing. Not that it matters all that much in the long run (as far as I know), but in my first few playthroughs she was always very antagonistic to me until I actually found this side quest with her and gave her the idol. It's a nice change of pace for me. So there's that.

It still works, I just tested. You just need to get the timing exactly right. You need to go to camp the second the Idol lifts into the air, before it goes into your inventory. Also as a back up you can just do the quest as writen (I show the steps in the second half of the video). Because it is an actual quest to steal the Idol it will never be patched. Just depending on when and how you do it, you may have some fallout. The best / safest time to steal it "correctly" is after dealing with the goblins but before the party. You still need to be stealthy when doing it because you are stealing, but you can use darkness or fog and then just get out of there as fast as possible.
Ring is better. Armor class and saving throws are something you use very often. Nature checks, not so much. Also the idol seem to stop working after a while. From what I read, after a long rest you need to drop and pick it up again.
+1 AC alone blows idol out of water. +1 to all saving throws is just cherry on top. Add in that it's a ring and IMO it's hard to quickly get 2 good rings (unless throwing build,) and there's just no contest.
I unfortunately dont think so, I also missed out on getting the ring on my main playthrough, I would have gon back a save but I was several hours past the point before I realized it. If anyone does know a way please let us know!

I gave mol money to be nice then i pickpocketed every cent she had for having such a big mouth. I'm gald that didnt trigger anything because mol said she was saving up for the city but I'm still in act 2 so ig I'll find out later. She didnt seem to care at the inn so I'll have to see

Haha, second playthrough! I have a list of things I forgot to get the first time. There are plenty of things I knew about and just forgot to go back for in time.
Turn based mode works great for the second part of my video as I show, however it will not work before you deal with Kagha, you cant get away and it triggers the cut scene.
I just tested it now, and I can confirm it still works just fine. You must get the timing exact to get it to work so you may need to try it a few times to get it right. Also, only one method I show has the potential to be patched (stealing it from the moment you walk into the grove). Every other method I show are *scripted quests* in the game and will *not* be patched out at any point. If you are unable to get the timing for taking it right away use one of the other methods I show as they are essentially quest guides and will lead you to the designed quest reward as intended by Larian Studios.
Its not patched yet. It still works, I just tested it again. Unless maybe are you doing it in an Honor run? I know some things changed specifically for that game mode, I dont think this would change but who knows? Maybe someone else can test this? I can confirm that it still does work on tactitcian mode at any rate. Give it another try, you have to be super quick, it took me a few tries to actually get it. You have to hit "go to camp" the exact second you the idol lifts into the air, it almost feels like you are hitting the "go to camp" button before you actually take the idol. There is zero margin for error to actally get it, and it will usually take a few tries to get unless you luck out with timing. You MUST start a few steps away from the idol which gives you time to open the rest menu and hover your mouse over the "go to camp" as your character walks towards the idol before they pick it up or you will not have time to get it. At any rate you can still steal it "legit" by exposing Kagha or rescuing Halsin (as long as you steal it before the party you can still trade it to Mol for the ring, otherwise you just keep the idol or sell it). Also Larian Studios is really good with their patch notes, it seems like anything they change no mater how small they note (unless they accidentally cause a bug fixing something else). So I would assume if they ever do patch this out we would see it in the patch notes.
I just tested and it still works. The timing must be down to the millisecond. You have to click head to camp as soon as the idol rises up into the air. If it is coming back down towards your character its too late. I find it often takes a couple tries to do, so I recommend anyone planning on doing this in Honor mode to practice on a different save first. Also, as a fall back you can just to it the "legit" way by ending the ritual and stealing it with darkness or fog normally. (That is shown in the last sections of the video).

there's another kid you can help out, the one that got caught pickpocketing some dude and gets chased around the grove interior.

fog cloud is more accessibly than darkness. Gale has it at level 1 too.
if you get the quest to steal the idol, then redeem kagha, you can steal the idol after that without risk of the tieflings being slaughtered

the protection will make the mephits miss virtually every if not all attacks on you. there wont be any room on the platform for them to fly up onto which means they wont blast you with their aoe death effect. the woads wont have melee range to hit you plus they dont have a ranged attack. all you have to do is contend with being ensnared, but it's not even the good ensnare with deals damage. just gives you disadvantage on some attacks. w/e
just stand up there and blast them with firebolts (they are vuln fire) until they are dead.
takes no time at all, and gives really easy xp at early levels.

Another note regarding this whole sequence!!!
If you manage to save Aradin's friends at the gate, one of the kids will steal from Barth. If you enter this dialogue, and choose not to intervene and let Barth slap the kid, Mol will have no interest in you (in fact, she turns everyone against you, making the Tieflings in the grove temporarily hostile if you do not succeed a check). You have to stand up for the kid if you want Mol's favour.

@smol_pupper123 Agreed. You don't have to help the kid steal, you just have to object Barth hitting Mol. Then Barth will realize he's overreacting, and you get the best resolution. Mol admits it reminded him of a locket that his mother had (he's an orphan), and Barth was an orphan too, it was his mother's locket, so he has a change of heart & tells the kid to keep the locket. You get maximum follower approves from this outcome.
Also, you only have to save Aradin and Barth, the others aren't so important (well, and Will, but he probably wouldn't die in that fight).
there´s even a fourth kid that belongs to that quest. If you play a Thief and the other kid at the "shop" (where one kid wants to sell you a "magic ring") tries to pickpocket you, pass a test and then don´t blame the kid for trying to steal from you. Tell him he just had bad luck this time. Mol will also refer to this situation and thanks you for beeing kind to this young boy.

Yea, I skipped it on my main play through, I was going ro do it right at the end of act one, I didn't realize you can miss it. I would have gone back a save to get it but I was several hours past that point, I was not happy haha.

I stole the idol after I dealt with the leaders at the goblin camp, just as long as you don’t rest after speaking to Halisin at the grove. The idol is still out but the druids aren’t preforming the ritual making it easier to either bard performance or minor illusion the attention of the druids away
That's good to know! On my main play through I went straight from clearing the camp to speaking with Halisin and right to camp. I completely forgot about the idol until much later.
you can also forgive the child that tries to rob you near the hideout entrance
you just need to enter turn based mode to steal it then you don't need to worry about timing. Once you have it, remove turn based mode and quicly warp to camp. This works when stealing anything in the game. Theres noone there to blame, and after about 30 seconds they reset.

As a side note I swear this is how they say her name in game, but I am horrible with names so I would not be the least bit surprised if I am butchering it! It could also be the accents of the voice actors I am hearing wrong too.

What worked for me was putting a person at the top of the elevator. I stole it using darkness in turn based mode, and immediately sent it to the party member at the top of the elevator

Yes! just be sure to do it before having the party and the Tieflings leaving the grove. I unfortunatly did not do it before that on my main play through and missed actually getting the ring haha. I still have the idol however.
You can steal the idol back from Mol after the quest and throw it back on the pedestal. Roleplaying-wise it's like you "borrowed" it to dupe Mol who would probably appreciate the fact you one-upped her, and the druid's are none the wiser.

@@faerora Yes, if you do the glitch steal. The glitch steal is like the idol never got stolen in the first place, so it's mostly performative.
The way I did it was to use the Spell Mage Hand and yeet the statue down the ramp towards the bear by the water and just pick it up out of sight.

@@faerora I think so, I've made it work twice probably still does. You need to be a little quick like have someone ready to pick it up as people do notice and start running around. None even suspects you pretty funny.

use a box cover the idol....move the box..then get the idol out of it when u are at a safe distance from eyes

Of course the kuhga quest was bugged for me. Everything went fine except the battle didn't happen it just skipped everything
In the latest patch it seems they fixed the methods for going to the camp or using fog. I managed to do it after exposing kagha though, then they just treat it like a normal pickpocketing (the sentry looks around for a while for the thief) and no cutscene triggers
It still works for me, the timing just has to be bang on.
Although it could also be that I am using a game I started before the patch?
When I have a chance I will test it with a brand new playthrough.
Edit: just tested with a new play game, I can confirm as of Patch 3 it still works.
This is how I did it. Exposed Kagha and then walked up to the idol while disguised and ran away. 😂
As far as I can tell there’s no negative consequences to the grove as long as you complete the Druid quest line first.
if you expose kagha then the druids dont give a shit about the idol as much since they dont need it for the rite
This doesn’t work. I tried it literally 50 times in all kinds of different ways. You can’t go invisible and even with darkness and fog cloud the cutscene triggers the battle immediately. After you expose Kargha if you try and take it it also triggers a cutscene allowing you to either attack them or apologize for trying to take it. Must have been patched in the last day I’m assuming
Humm that is odd, maybe your game is bugged? (edit: just thought of this, I am on PC, Maybe the going to camp option does not work on console? But you should be able to get it after exposing or killing Kagha)
I just now tried it, I started a brand new game, on tacticion with the latest patch, and was able to take the idol first try.
You do have to be very quick going to camp which is why I recomend you stand away from the idol so when you click to take it you have time to hover over the go to camp button.
After you expose Kagha you should be able to steal it like any other item. If you do it in cover and leave the area before they have a chance to see you can get away.
You are supposed to beable to take this idol without causing a war, Mols quest is specifically that.
You can also stop Khaga by bringing back Helsin

You can steal the idol *without* the Druids attacking the Tieflings?! I kind of just genocided the Druids with a combination of explosive barrels and placing groups of characters in places to reduce Tiefling casualties. Though I feel like killing all the stuck up Druids is its own reward, so I’m probably just gonna keep doing it my way.

Good question! It really depends on what items you use and don't use, for example if you never plan on being a bard use the items specifically for them for Gale. Or there are items that are specifically used for if you are siding with the absolute, if you don't plan on that you can give them up.
I don't quite remember which ones I gave up other than it was an item I was using but then found a better one. I also did specifically go and steal magic items I didn't actually want to use but were able to be used for Gale.
Any item that Gale can consume says so in its description.
Also there are so many magic items in this game and they get better as you go so I dont think you can go wrong with most of everything. I also think it is usually a safe bet to give him anything you can buy from a trader.

Just place your Tav a short distance from the base of the stairs and click the idol to pick it up. As Tav is walking over click/hold the camp menu and slide up to the Go to Camp button. The second the move animation starts on the idol release the mouse button.
this didnt work on my play through i had the quest to steal the idol and as soon as you steal the idol the druids just start the tiefling genecide and mol wont give the ring shes just freaked out everyones getting killed
You do have to be super quick stealing it. Getting the timing right can take a couple tries. You need to hit go to camp as the idol is in the air before it actually is in your inventory or they start the attack.
Alternatively you can steal it after you confront Karga when they are not using it for the ritual anymore.
I don't know whether it still works or not but I tossed mine into a basket nearby then moved the basket out of sight then grabbed the idol out of the basket.

Or, instead of trying to walk upto to the idol and take in plain as day, maybe use one of the many skills that creates a cloud to hide in when taking it? Then portal away as you like.
There is also the option of trying to using magehand shenanigans (which as a side note, can be used in the burning INN to reach the locked chest in the room thats literally on fire by dragging it out of the room).
There is no INTENDED way to really do much of anything in this game, as the developers did their best to try and allow full freedom and creativity. Even accounting for the player giving the idol to Mol, then literally STEALING it from HER which includes FREAKING DIALOGUE for doing so.
at leaat as of yesterday (the 22 of sept) you can actually buy the idol off mol. this will result in the same dialogue as if you stole it but is much easier to do. lol
Once you stop the ritual the mage hand is a good option too! I use my mage hand to steal lots of things, just never actually tried it for this case.

By "not intended" I only meant that you are not supposed to get the idol while the ritual is happening without triggering the druids and tieflings fighting, I am fairly certain they will patch this at some point. Because to get it to work with out the fight you have to time it very well and it seems odd you can steal something they are actively focusing on without any repercussions (that also has a whole scene about punshing someone for trying to take it). I also found trying to steal it with darkness or fog or anything else while the ritual is happening triggers the fight unless you teleport out right away.
But yes you can absolutely take the idol right away if you dont care about the fight between the druids and tieflings. Or wait until the ritual is done or the tieflings are leaving to take it then. I agree with you Larian Studios did an amazing job of giving us many many options if how we choose to play!
I just quaff a fire resistance elixir for the burning inn. It's a non-issue at that point.
Aye, the Druids are a bunch of cowards and kind of violent nature loving hippies. This latest play through, I decided I had enough of the whole lot and planned out their utter destruction without losing a Tiefling besides the one who dies in the cut scene. I called it the Druid Solution. I first raided the Goblin camp, placed quite a few strategic firewine barrels and the explody other barrels, put my best killing companions at certain spots, and then wiped out the druids I could beforehand using fog and silence.. Nettie (or whatever her name), her poisoning ass, was the first and easiest to kill. I made sure to use the poison she gave me (tried to kill me) on her. I didn't shed a tear. The next one to go was that over priced stupid Druid trader trying to turn a buck on others misfortune. Damn fraggin hippies.
After that, came time to implement the Druid solution. Put the barrels around. Took the statue and one well placed fire arrow at the exact right time and boom. Near all wiped out in a glorious haze of exploding fire. I knew I did it right when a couple inspiration points flowed in. The head druid dude when I rescued him even seemed to agree with me after I told him I killed them all down to the last man (except for the one who was always kind of cool and decided to allign with the Tieflings). He was like, "What? You killed them all? Why?"
They suck man. Hateful bunch of nature loving violent cowards. The whole lot.
"Oh, Yeah. Your kind of right, honestly. I'm bringing in new management for the place. Best thing for the grove is a new slate."
"Right on, man. I was hoping you would kind of see it that way because it sure would have sucked for you if you hadn't."

Walking through the place with the Tieflings deciding to head out is kind of sad. I got the whole place to myself. I don't know where Rath went too. Maybe the memories of the Druid solultion is too painful.
Either way, the Tieflings lived and those dirty rotten violent cowardly nature hippie freaks didn't.

Killing is so easy to do. Doing investigation and diplomacy takes more finesse. I can easily tell which players just use violence as a solution versus those that like the more non violent approach. As this video shows, Kargha and the druids can be made through persuasion/diplomacy that makes the druids stop the ritual and allow the Tieflings to stay. Of course, the tieflings still need to travel to BG though.
@@rjhemedes Aye, I did that the first time around but the cowards hid when the Goblins came. Between their overt bullying violence and their inbred cowardice, I was like not this time you nature loving hippie bastards.
And killing them all and keeping all the Tieflings alive is kind of challenging. Many of the Tieflings have only 8 health.
It took some planning and strategic setup to pull it off without getting a Tiefling killed.
But kill them I did. I think I will every single time from here on out.

Damn, I missed this quest bc I failed the perception check and also didn't find that secluded cove.
To steal the idol, I used the mage hand to throw it. Keep throwing it until it's far away from the druids and then just pick it up. Easy.

I just used command to make her come in the room, then closed the door and merced her, then did the same to all but the healer lady, no war outside and no more kagara

Honestly killing kagha after outing her as a shadow Druid was one of the most satisfying aspects of act 1, she’s just such an unlikable b*tch, I didn’t even bother trying to turn her against the shadow druids.
I fully admit to quicksaving so I could outright attacking her after my first interaction with her, then just reloading.
If your Tav is a Druid you need to out her, fight the shadow Druids, and make sure she survives. She’ll make you a Faithwarden and give you the rare Pale Oak staff!

Weird, I have not had that happen to me, but I know the timing is really tough to get and if you miss it the cut scene plays. I wouldent be suprised if they patch this so you cant take it while they are performing the ritual.
Kagha & Dammon seem to have their names mispronounced more often than any other act 1 NPC

You don't have to worry much about having the idol....the moment you go to sleep without placing it in ur traveling chest and that inside another chest/pouch the power will go forever and there is no cheat or mod to fix it
I thought I heard they patched that? Could be wrong though, I have never tested. I personally don't like having the idol with me due to it activating on every one I pass.

Yes you can get in and she will not be friendly. You just need to go rescue Mirkon or save Arabella and she should be ok with talking to you. If you failed both of those quests, I am not too sure if its possible anymore. Maybe try talking to her again if/when you end the ritual.

If you plan on taking the idol after dealing with Kagha sneak and distracting would probably work well. I don't know about Invisibility other than it does not work at all before you stop the ritual, you just become visible when you grab the idol. And you can't sneak or distract to take the idol when the ritual is happening without triggering the fight. By jumping to camp right away you are essentially exploiting the game to get the idol without the fight.
I think it's better to kill Kagha (after exposing her), rather than getting her to change her mind. She drops a good loot item, and frankly she's better off 'gone'. The only reward for getting her help in the fight with the shadow druids, is an easier fight. And putting her down frankly works equally well in a light or dark side playthrough. If you convince her to switch, Halsin just gives her "probation" for high treason & attempted mass murder. My oath of vengeance paladin does not approve.
I missed this in act 1 can I still go back to the grove and get it?
If you still have the waypoints to get back to the grove you can go get the idol, Unfortunatly once the teiflings leave the grove you cant get the ring from Mol anymore from what I have seen. There is a point of no return which you will loose all the waypoints for the act 1 map, after this point I dont hink there is any way back unless some one has made a mod for it?
If you don't rescue Mirkon early on, he dies to the Harpies during a long rest.

Makes Mol a lot more friendlier to you for one thing. Not that it matters all that much in the long run (as far as I know), but in my first few playthroughs she was always very antagonistic to me until I actually found this side quest with her and gave her the idol. It's a nice change of pace for me. So there's that.

I tried everything to steal that idol. everything I did failed, so i left it. it has been patched a few times now
It still works, I just tested. You just need to get the timing exactly right. You need to go to camp the second the Idol lifts into the air, before it goes into your inventory.
Also as a back up you can just do the quest as writen (I show the steps in the second half of the video). Because it is an actual quest to steal the Idol it will never be patched. Just depending on when and how you do it, you may have some fallout. The best / safest time to steal it "correctly" is after dealing with the goblins but before the party. You still need to be stealthy when doing it because you are stealing, but you can use darkness or fog and then just get out of there as fast as possible.

You can buy or steal back the idol from Mol after you give it to her if you want.
Ring is better. Armor class and saving throws are something you use very often. Nature checks, not so much.
Also the idol seem to stop working after a while. From what I read, after a long rest you need to drop and pick it up again.
+1 AC alone blows idol out of water. +1 to all saving throws is just cherry on top.
Add in that it's a ring and IMO it's hard to quickly get 2 good rings (unless throwing build,) and there's just no contest.
Kill Kagha she drops a pretty good necklace and she is a jerk. If you expose her killing her is pretty much no big deal.

No unfortunately. It is purely a quest reward, so you can't get it through trade, stealing, or anything else.

I gave mol money to be nice then i pickpocketed every cent she had for having such a big mouth. I'm gald that didnt trigger anything because mol said she was saving up for the city but I'm still in act 2 so ig I'll find out later. She didnt seem to care at the inn so I'll have to see

Turn based mode works great for the second part of my video as I show, however it will not work before you deal with Kagha, you cant get away and it triggers the cut scene.
None of these methods work now with the latest patch.
I just tested it now, and I can confirm it still works just fine. You must get the timing exact to get it to work so you may need to try it a few times to get it right.
Also, only one method I show has the potential to be patched (stealing it from the moment you walk into the grove). Every other method I show are *scripted quests* in the game and will *not* be patched out at any point.
If you are unable to get the timing for taking it right away use one of the other methods I show as they are essentially quest guides and will lead you to the designed quest reward as intended by Larian Studios.

Its not patched yet. It still works, I just tested it again. Unless maybe are you doing it in an Honor run? I know some things changed specifically for that game mode, I dont think this would change but who knows? Maybe someone else can test this?
I can confirm that it still does work on tactitcian mode at any rate.
Give it another try, you have to be super quick, it took me a few tries to actually get it. You have to hit "go to camp" the exact second you the idol lifts into the air, it almost feels like you are hitting the "go to camp" button before you actually take the idol. There is zero margin for error to actally get it, and it will usually take a few tries to get unless you luck out with timing.
You MUST start a few steps away from the idol which gives you time to open the rest menu and hover your mouse over the "go to camp" as your character walks towards the idol before they pick it up or you will not have time to get it.
At any rate you can still steal it "legit" by exposing Kagha or rescuing Halsin (as long as you steal it before the party you can still trade it to Mol for the ring, otherwise you just keep the idol or sell it).
Also Larian Studios is really good with their patch notes, it seems like anything they change no mater how small they note (unless they accidentally cause a bug fixing something else). So I would assume if they ever do patch this out we would see it in the patch notes.

sucks they patched this. no matter what now if you steal the idol early the cut scene triggers. lame.
I just tested and it still works. The timing must be down to the millisecond. You have to click head to camp as soon as the idol rises up into the air. If it is coming back down towards your character its too late. I find it often takes a couple tries to do, so I recommend anyone planning on doing this in Honor mode to practice on a different save first.
Also, as a fall back you can just to it the "legit" way by ending the ritual and stealing it with darkness or fog normally. (That is shown in the last sections of the video).
