Most in hiking community are honest and would be helpful in an emergency. Many have given away their supplies to help another hiker. Some have walked milles out of their way, doubled back on their own hikes to help other hikers. Some hikers might actually be serial killers. One hiker was convicted of being a serial killer. And can any one tell by looking at a hiker?

omg i have a creepy story from my hike in the himalayas. on the 4th day of the hike it was all downhill. my friend and i misgauged how long it would be till the next village so we drank the rest of our water. however we were hours away from the village extremely dehydrated and sore from going downhill for so long. by night it was raining hard and we finally came across the village and walked to the first hotel/building we saw. i could barely make it my legs had never been that sore. we walked inside and immediately ordered waters. we noticed there was only men in the room and they took our bags to the very back room. something in my gut got a really bad feeling about this and so did my friend. it’s hard to describe but it gave off horror movie vibes. mind you the both of us are extremely well traveled l, both having been on the road for years individually. we don’t spook easily. so, even though the idea of walking more to find another place to rest for the evening sounded unfathomable just 20 min beforehand we got the hell out of there and found another place down the way that was safe and welcoming. the second i saw this short i imagined this woman to be in a similar situation and wonder if they have her locked up in a secret place.
anyone hiking alone in difficult places is at risk with every damn step. You turn an ankle, you lose your provisions, you break a bone. You're already in trouble. She advertised herself as a victim and it was arrogant. She apparently felt she was safe because she had come so far alone. It's a damn shame, but it happens all the time. If they ever find her...
A solo hiker was kidnapped and repeatedly S A ed by a rural farmer in Australia. She was from or now resides on Netherlands area of Europe, and she got safely home. If you do not have a person with you who is a witness who might later report it or might call authorities as it happens, you are more likely to be targeted, more likely to not get away if targeted. Yes, bad guy or bad guys have gone after 2 hikers .
@MsMesem I don't find it funny. She was promised lodging in exchange for doing chores and planned to use his farm as a base to explore nearby sites of interest. He picks her up in his truck, drives by a cicuitois route to his out building and chains her up on the property after picking her up at a meeting site the farmer and she agreed upon. His family feels bad about it. He went to jail. She will never be the same. Hilarious is not the right adjective. It was as scary as the hostel movies , but not fictional, not as entertaining if translated to fiction.
@MsMesem and we should avoid any humans who find it hilarious. The unfortunate part is that those humans are not easily identifiable from a distance or sometimes even close up . Some find hurting people fun and funny. Sadly, a few even find work in law enforcement. You still think this is hilarious? Every one near you should be extra cautious around you when they must be around you if that is true.
Unlikely as this is an older, independent woman. She'd be too difficult to control. She would try to escape. Also, as an older woman, she'd have less market value so to speak.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I actually laughed at the idea that she was trafficked. She wasn't very attractive. Looked well into her 30's despite being 23. Average face, thin mousy hair. There are plenty of younger, prettier women who make more appealing victims.
That’s so sad. We’ve all likely been naive about our safety at some point in our lives and been fortunate enough to get home anyway. I have heard of lone women travellers doing well on their own but I was cautious even with a travel partner, and especially exploring more isolated places or iffy neighborhoods

We all need to take precautions when and where we can and despite this, a clever lucky bad guy might succeed.

The world isn't our oyster? Because some men like to be predators? I hike and run solo ALL THE TIME, as do many of my friends. We're prepared and take precautions, and live our lives to the fullest. We refuse to "live" in fear, or severely restricted because some men can't mind their manners. I've dealt with SO MUCH harassment in our near the city... and exactly zero issues in the wilderness.
These people are just so determined to show everyone that if you're just nice and understanding then every place is safe. Guess they keep learning the hard way that real life doesn't work like that
That's a great truth about the realities of this world. Some people trust everybody they come in contact with, but reality mixed with little common sense and no situational awareness gets them unalive every time.
Even if it wasn’t the 3 men, someone else could’ve overheard her and those men could repeat her plans to anyone. They could also be lying but we will never know until she is found.
I have always done ALL my travelling alone, so did my mother... she taught me "situation awareness" as I was barely school age. 3 naive people are just more distraction. I walked to school alone in the heart of a large city half a dozen blocks. She taught me to think for myself... I was never told to be nice. You "protect" your kids from germs, shelter them in cars. Check out the result: they cannot even cope with alternative opinions (needing "safe spaces" 😂😂😂😂. No critical thinking or a shred of common sense.
@@kellynywneing I hike alone all the time (I do that and photo full time). And I favor places away from people because if I am alone the wild life does come to me -their choice- clearly out of curiosity. I have travelled alone all my life. I am in my 70s. My mother did the same and never waited for someone to go with her. Generally people are what I stay away from the most. That is how I know a lot of people lie when they say they hike: because unless I am in a popular NP I am mostly alone on trails😂. I do what I chose, well prepared, VERY in tune with nature and animals around...not distracted by useless conversations. The noise of the birds, or the sudden quiet is plenty of information. Being stung by a cloud of wasps nesting in a dead tree is more dangerous than a bear minding his own business most usually. Wasps are only found near dirty campers seems to me. People and nature do not mix well. I chose nature. Make sure you have zero health condition. Know your body and your abilities in various terrains.
I went backpacking in Europe with my friend when I was 18\19, this was back in 2005. We traveled to .. 6 different counties, in 3 of them we had men stalking us. I can't imagine travelling alone. We had one man in Nice, France who grabbed me and was trying to drag me away, luckily I played field hockey and did shot-put so I was strong .. but it also took my friend (another female) punching him in the face for us to break free and run. (Also thankfully the movies hostel came out AFTER we were home and no longer staying in hostels!)
They followed her or joined her on the hike to show her the next town. They probably raped her, stole her stuff & money, and killed her. Buried her body under a rock or in a cave somewhere. They'll never find her. It would require a lot of money as reward to find her body and return it. I doubt that's even possible at this point. I'm a very saavy and strong woman hiker. I have run into potential danger several times during short solo hikes in state parks and even an initially crowded trail in Smoky Mtns. The world is not safe anymore. As adventurous as I am, I know my limitations. The average man is stronger than me. Facts. I would not feel safe hiking solo thru Europe or Asia. And never Egypt or other Middle Eastern countries. I'm not sure if I'd feel safe with only one guy with me. Better to travel with a larger group of strong men. And even then, they may not be safe in many countries where some people are very desperate or hate Americans. This is tragic. May this lady RIP and her family find peace.

I agreed. I am from Asia now living in the US. I am always amazed at the naive mentality of westerners thinking that traveling in Asia solo is a good idea. I won’t even do that in the US, let alone Asia. Yes, shit happens anywhere in the world but in Asia, you disappear, no one will help you nor advocate anything. The police don’t care for their own citizens let alone a foreigner. Social media doesn’t help either. I am a hiker. The amount of women encouraging each other to hike solo is astounding.
I love hiking and just wandering through the woods and prairies alike. But as a woman I’ve never understood why you would go to unfamiliar places, different countries especially and explore by yourself! Being so distracted by the beauty of the views, especially if you like to appreciate little things, looking closely at the different flora and fauna, the rocks, finding fossils, identifying animal tracks, etc. It’s way too easy for someone to sneak up on you if you’re distracted enough.
Never go alone And if you see a group of men say you're going north when you're going south, tell them you're leaving the next day and sneak out that night
I like to take to the woods and just listen to nature and the silence of the city. I dont trust anyone while I am alone, give no facts as to where I go next, and no, I dont stand still if its a Bear and not a person, I run as fast as I.could go. I have a License to Carry and if needed to use a weapon, I am not afraid. If all these tragic stories got into my head, I would never enjoy going anywhere alone. 📌
Before coming back to Israel, I unicycled through much of South East Asia, eventually spending extended sojourns in India and Nepal. As 'magical' as these sorts of spiritual vision quests can be for us - we would be well-advised to NEVER EVER lose the slightest sight of the practical: including being vague with even the friendliest of strangers about onward travel plans, keeping aloof distance and a tough, dismissive demeanor where it is warranted, especially out in the rural roughs. I say this to Aubrey, knowing full-well that I made all the mistakes that she made, but survived, though, as a guy, it is far distinct, if by no means a guarantee of safety as is often supposed by those less-travelled. I have followed Aubrey's case and often muse about my own skin-of-the-teethiest survivings in the Desilands Backcountry as a poetboy youth. I think how I never would have published the book that was birthed by it. I wonder often what things Aubrey might have Aubreyed had she gone home and Himilaya'd her life locally. I do mourn this gap in knowing. So many, many missing. May one day something be known.
This is going to sound cruel, but this is one of the problem the woman here in America have. I’ve seen it reported in the news over the years. Dear woman of America, just because you are protected here in America as a woman, doesn’t mean you will enjoy the same rights in other countries. Same here. Just because you can solo hike here in America, doesn’t mean you can do the same thing in another country. Also I understand that most American woman are taught to do everything by themselves, and that we are taught that we don’t need a man and that we need to rely on ourselves and only selves …. I personally don’t think that the right mentality, and most woman are going to continue doing forth with this mentally… however, that being said, there needs to be a level of common sense used in situations like this. Most women (and even men) understand that you can’t just go and hike all alone in the woods/forest. And you definitely don’t do something like this in another foreign country that you’re unfamiliar with. Again, this is going to sound cruel, but I think she understood hiking alone was dangerous. But rather than to pay for a guide or ask for help, she decided she doesn’t need any help and that she could do this all by herself.
Everyone is blaming the 3 men. Were they the ones to report that they spoke to her and where she was going? Could have been someone at the hotel. Or if it were them they could have misdirected the search. Hope she is found someday.
More than likely others saw her speaking to these three men too so if they didn't say they spoke with her then someone mentioned that they did . It's very unfortunate she told them though . Just not a good idea . If she didn't slip and fall then she would've been spotted along the way by someone .. friend or foe!
Why would smn travel or hike alone ???????? It's 100% stupid and irresponsible. Only naive and ignorant would venture in remote places where they have no idea what's going on. Even so called touristic paradises can reveal themselves as hell on earth and have claimed the lives of unfortunate tourists. Immagine going in the middle of nowhere all alone . Incredible how people like to gamble with their own lives.
Unpopular opinion: you are only safe if you are v ugly when you travel alone. Otherwise don't tall to strangers or tell anyone you are travelling alone.

I like to grocery shop. It's fun and fast unless I look at some items. I go with a list , coupons, and dance while pushing my cart fast.
Guys, not everyone who hikes alone does it because they are naive. Some do it for the thrill of it. Or they just have a much higher threshold for what they consider an acceptable risk. Or they are religious to the point that they see any harm that might come their way as a fate to be accepted (I know this one for a fact since my mom is like this). Or they don’t have anyone to hike with. You need to stop assuming so much.

When I was travelling in India I met a Scandinavian couple who had a kid and they asked if I'd like to visit them somewhere and I said yes. Later I read about how some foreigners in India could be sketchy and I had this really bad feeling and I didn't want to meet up with them. I met a young Indian guy and he introduced me to his older male friend, for some reason I trusted them and I told them how I was scared about meeting this Scandinavian couple and didn't want to go. They sat with me as I callled these people and told them I wasn't going to go visit them and I felt very relieved having done that. Don't forget we deal with evil, sadistic predators on this planet. Don't ever take your safety as a given.
Walking anywhere alone in unpopulated places is unsafe. Especially if you are not a local.
Poor Aubrey and her family.
@@joeliza4047 I literally hike alone on new places every week, and I've always been fine. I'm sad for you that you feel unsafe/don't get out much, but give it a try, you might find you like it.
@@nomadicam I live in Australia and I'm no stranger to the great outdoors. You only have to be I'm the wrong place at the wrong time, once. I hope you never are. We had an innocent 50 yr old abducted and killed on her daily run at 11am here in Ballarat in a beautiful state forest where runners run everyday. She was alone. Being alive is better than being dead because you took an unnecessary risk. Imho.
@@joeliza4047 I think I'd rather just be dead if I weren't able to take those risks. Maybe it's cause I'm an introvert but being around people all the time would be a nightmare for me.
@@nomadicam Same. I'm generally not around people unless they are family. I'm just saying to trust there will never be a predator in your mist when you are out alone is not a good premise to live by. Just choose walks and beaches and places that have other people around. You don't have to know the other people. It's less likely you'll ever be attacked if other people are around.
@@joeliza4047 yeah, there will often be predators in my midst. There are probably predators in your own family (I know there's one in mine, even though they all pretend he's not one) and yet, violent acts are incredibly rare. And, it's people who are dangerous, generally, I feel safer alone in nature than with people. If I had to live a life all indoors or surrounded by other people I may as well off myself. I hate going to national parks where there's millions of people, that's not even nature to me. I like it when the only thing I can hear is bird song and leaves falling and my own breath and footsteps.
There are predators everywhere. Such a brave and adventurous soul did not deserve to be their prey. I'm sure she's long gone and can only hope that some remains can be found or a moment of guilt might inspire those who did her wrong. From stars she was born and to the stars she returns. They followed her without her knowing 😢 RIP 🙏 ❤
As a solo female hiker myself this breaks my heart were ever she i hope shes found peace poor woman.i will amit the world is a unsafe place but you can also get hurt or attacked in your home town and even your own home nowdays
That's why I don't go out there.
I solo hike/camp in Australia.. if anyone starts asking where I'm headed- I make sure & tell them a destination that's the opposite f*ckin direction of where I'm headed... except for my family & local authorities (who I give an itinerary to, so if i turn up missing, someone knows where to look).
omg i have a creepy story from my hike in the himalayas. on the 4th day of the hike it was all downhill. my friend and i misgauged how long it would be till the next village so we drank the rest of our water. however we were hours away from the village extremely dehydrated and sore from going downhill for so long. by night it was raining hard and we finally came across the village and walked to the first hotel/building we saw. i could barely make it my legs had never been that sore. we walked inside and immediately ordered waters. we noticed there was only men in the room and they took our bags to the very back room. something in my gut got a really bad feeling about this and so did my friend. it’s hard to describe but it gave off horror movie vibes. mind you the both of us are extremely well traveled l, both having been on the road for years individually. we don’t spook easily. so, even though the idea of walking more to find another place to rest for the evening sounded unfathomable just 20 min beforehand we got the hell out of there and found another place down the way that was safe and welcoming.
the second i saw this short i imagined this woman to be in a similar situation and wonder if they have her locked up in a secret place.
I think you had a really lucky escape ❤
They took your bags though? Did you have to ask for them back or?
How did you get your bags back?
That was in 2010 so I doubt very much she is still alive. Your story was so very scary.
Make friends with your Gut Feeling- it is there to help you all the way and to save your life!
anyone hiking alone in difficult places is at risk with every damn step. You turn an ankle, you lose your provisions, you break a bone. You're already in trouble. She advertised herself as a victim and it was arrogant. She apparently felt she was safe because she had come so far alone. It's a damn shame, but it happens all the time. If they ever find her...

A reward for info for an arrest...!
That's hilarious.
@@eastlynburkholder3559Wow. If you find that hilarious you should be where that guy is.
@stj971 Well, he is prison in Australia. So he might be finding it not hilarious.
The only mystery is who else was listening to the conversation
Yes. Someone had to be there as well to know about the men
The 3 men are totally suspect.
She was mostly like kidnapped and trafficked unfortunately
Unlikely as this is an older, independent woman. She'd be too difficult to control. She would try to escape.
Also, as an older woman, she'd have less market value so to speak.
It read 23 years old -@@PeacefulRallyCar-pw3cs
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I actually laughed at the idea that she was trafficked. She wasn't very attractive. Looked well into her 30's despite being 23. Average face, thin mousy hair. There are plenty of younger, prettier women who make more appealing victims.
The day i hike alone is the day i become a Jedi. Such skills are needed in this day and age.

That’s so sad. We’ve all likely been naive about our safety at some point in our lives and been fortunate enough to get home anyway. I have heard of lone women travellers doing well on their own but I was cautious even with a travel partner, and especially exploring more isolated places or iffy neighborhoods
So sorry to hear this. I too backpacked or did long day hikes alone in several countries. The worst near disasters were twice in Virginia and once in Chile. Hundreds of safe trips. Was careful, but also very lucky. I still do solo day hikes and two female backpacking. So far, so good. I'm 75.

When traveling a foreign country alone you are a target. Never tell anyone anything personal & never assume you’re safe, especially if you are a woman! I thought we all knew this?!?!
Never tell anyone your private plans when travelling alone 😮
So dangerous for a solo female, even male, to talk to strangers about where you are going to go, that you're alone.. never assume that strangers are safe, assume the worst case and avoid it... Prayers for her and her loved ones..🙏
Never, never solo hike as a female. The world is not your oyster. There is evil out there, and it will be it's mission to find you.
@@Kelly_BenShe didn't.
Plus they’re strong and independent.
They're told everyone is safe and they believed the propaganda.
Never tell anyone your plans especially 3 men you don't. This is no mystery

Worst decision became worst nightmare...never hike alone, anywhere..

@@kellynywneingIt only happens once.
Hundreds of thousands of people go missing in the USA annually. 500,000 went mossing in 2021. 😢

What is a female solo hikers worst nightmare? Is it disappearing in a foreign country?
Disappearing. Country doesn't make it better.
@@minimutt1408 😂 no but depending on the country it sure as hell can make it worse. For example Look up this case 17 December 2018, the bodies of Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, a 24-year-old Danish woman, and Maren Ueland, a 28-year-old Norwegian woman, were found decapitated in the foothills of Mount Toubkal near to the village of Imlil in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. I won’t even do that in the US, let alone Asia. Yes, shit happens anywhere in the world but in Asia, you disappear, no one will help you nor advocate anything.
I agree. Sadly this lovely young lady was a bit naive. 😢

And if you see a group of men

I like to take to the woods and just listen to nature and the silence of the city. I dont trust anyone while I am alone, give no facts as to where I go next, and no, I dont stand still
if its a Bear and not a person, I run
as fast as I.could go.

Wow! Such a terrible tragedy. Prayers for her family.
The three guys did it. Hiking solo as a woman in Asia? Big oof

There's no way of really knowing what could have happened had I went, but I trusted my instincts and it all turned out for the best.
