    Congratulations Tomy. It looks and sounds amazing. I was also glad to see the pupper in the video. I have an 8 month old Tibetan Mastiff puppy and she is getting used to my guitar playing without needing to sniff it all over. I am looking forward to your next project. Cheers.

    Tomy your attention to detail is outstanding. Very beautiful results. Your wife's playing is wonderful. This had to be a real test of your resolve to get this huge project finished. Even the dog was loving it.

    A beautiful restoration, and I love how your dog manages to discreetly photo bomb so many of the musical performances.

    Sounds and looks beautiful. Great job. I’ve really enjoyed the journey. Especially linking a part of the piano to my family friends ancestor R Hubert. Sadly she died last year aged 98. Coincidentally we holidayed in Whitby Yorkshire this year which is where John Broadwood and Sons are now based. I’m from York. Thank you for the journey.

    I’m not sure what I enjoyed more. Watching the restoration project or the fantastic piano playing at the end. Well done.

      Thank you, glad to hear you enjoyed this restoration and the results.. I am personally enjoying my wife’s playing more than the restoration itself … but that’s just me😅

    Now all that remains is for you to make a beautiful cabinet showcasing your piano-making tools that will be lost and then found and marveled over by future woodworkers in generations to come.

    This has been such a treat to get to see and now hear! Thanks for sharing this journey with us. How often does the piano need to be tuned after being re-strung?

    • @HovingtonInstruments
      @HovingtonInstruments  Год назад

      I tuned it 4 times prior to getting our piano technician in. The strings did stretch a bit early on. My technician thinks we should be good for 2-3 months and have another look at it before Xmas…
      Really happy you have been enjoying the series

      @@HovingtonInstruments A testament again to when you restore a piano the way it should be done, not trying to replace everything (many restorers replace even the soundboard ! ) So when its restored correctly the original (or close to) sound will come out and they were beautiful pianos to start with.

      @@wimvanmoerbeke thank you, this is so nice to see!! I had so much negativity on some FB piano ground about not replacing some parts. One of them stating that the soundboard should have been completely replaced or at least bleached, steel over pin block replaced with regular piano pins… etc.. the idea has always been for us to restore while keeping it as original as possible…
      Thank you for your comment

      @@HovingtonInstruments Ah. Don't listen to those people (they are mostly unrefined barbars who paint antique chairs white and replace ivory with plastic 🙂Also they might know how to restore a modern piano (and there I agree because the materials are the same and still produced) but old pianos have their own soul and the materials nowadays are third rate. (Its like changing the wooden oak floor from 80 years ago with a laminate, it really disgusts me when people are ignorant like that. I mean if you want a plastic white piano, buy a new one or one that is 40 years old) I hope more people see your piano and think ... wow this sounds really good and he didnt replace too much, surely it must be the way to restore a piano.

    Your tuner has a very unconventional technique when tuning. However, this is probably necessitated by his use of s modrrn tuning crank. Back in the 19th century this would not have been tuned with a modern tuning crank but with a T hammer then you tuners crank wouldn't be pointing in difficult tuning positions.
