Great idea. Better than using a file. Looks like you put a thin coat of anti-seize before installing the shims.

Thank you. I did put some anti seize on it I’ve been finding it stays better then the brake caliper grease does.

I did this to my brakes in the spring time and coated it with krown rust spray. I had them apart again last week and was surprised to see the rust was right back in behind the clips and havent even hit salt season yet.. i might try antiseize or something like rustoleum rubber spray. Ive never had this problem so much before

I have a special brake caliper bracket file that works excellent. I agree that the torch method works great but I don’t have torches😂. I might try it with a map gas torch.

Is it a special file for the brackets or one you use just on them? Just after I took the rear axle out of the old dodge frame and only had the map gas torch, I got one of those small portable cutting torch sets that sit in the plastic carrier. I got it on sale. I don’t need them often but every once in a while it’s a life saver.

Never had to clean that before. Mostly because the caliper rusts apart so much the bleeder screw is gone, or the caliper blows up and that part comes with a new one of those. lol Kind of stupid that a brand new caliper and other part have 0 coating on them to prevent rust. The one I got when changing it in a parking lot to get home was anyways. All in the spirit of being made as cheap as possible and will fail as soon as possible. Talking about a 2000 2500 Chevy Silverado.

I know what you mean. It’s usually a 50/50 chance I’m gonna be changing the caliper, or it will compress without sticking.

Just use a die grinder and lightly grind off the rust works great and faster than the torch or having to use a beast cabinet

Has the 2016 FORD F-550 XL dump truck ever had a transmission leak?

    • @JasonTheMunicipalMechanic

No it hasn’t had a transmission, but it has a long delay before going into gear from park. We took it to a transmission repair shop and they said there was nothing wrong with it. Had the pcm updated and didn’t fix it either. I’m pretty sure the valve body is worn. We do a lot of back and forth rolling the patch in potholes. Our 2011 had a transmission leak but it was just the pan rusting out.
