Omg in Georgia you would be in Spices heaven, because on farmers markets they sell spices in bulk, you can bring your container and buy everything, also make blends right at the stall.
Really seems like a store that's a good option for gifts but not for everyday shopping. I also noticed that many expensive food brands don't give a damn about fair trade or sustainability which is very sad. The people who buy these items would have the money to spend a little extra on fair working conditions etc.
My university have started charging 20p for any single use cups or container to encourage using reusables, they sell them at the coffee carts and canteens alongside us being able to bring our own!
People get really passionate about their favourite colour of pepper... To me, the whole charm of peppers, is that they come in multitude of colours! Also, good pears are superior to apples. Buuut, (at least where I live now) it's hard to get a properly nice juicy pear :( They're dry and grainy, not like the pears of my childhood 😢
I think they all have different uses and flavours that works for different things - but for me the best one raw is green 💚🥰 and I agree a bad pear just isn’t it
I personlay can't stand green peppers. Also couldn't eat any of the colours for the longest time cause a pack got rotten and the smell was horrible. I am back to eating the red one and ocassionaly yellow. I love how different we all are but still kinda same:) agree on the pear tho!
In Switzerland organic produce legally has to be labeled as such so to avoid packaging some companies have started giving the produce little laser tattoos that say „organic“ Still not that many that do it but I love it, tattooed produce is fun 😂
I'd like to give a shoutout to the humble yellow pepper - if you're eating it raw it has the best flavour. If cooked, definitely red and green vibes only.
Oh dear, I forgot how expensive Salling is and you're completely right, it's more a store for special items and/or selection. What did surprise me was the amount of plastic though, apparently "higher end" means more "convience" or maybe people that buy their veggies there because they think more packaging means quality items, who knows. In any case it's nice to have options. Thanks for the video 😄
Looove all the videos lately😍 Thanks for providing us all with your bomb-ass vibes! It’s so fun and you seem so genuinely happy which makes it all the better❤
As a dane, I am interested in seeing this video in all the different super markets here. It is interesting to see not only what you can get but also the prices in the different stores. In general, this series is one of my favorites, so I would love more but I do not have a preference for certain stores :)
The moment I realised you'd be going to Salling Super, I thought "She'll return empty-handed from the produce section" I can't think of another Danish supermarket where so much is wrapped in not only thick layers of plastic bit also those horrible Styrofoam plates. The only time I buy produce from Salling in Aalborg is when I get the "Too Good To Go" bags.. and even then I feel iffy about the amount waste.
Oh, I shuddered at the Styrofoam -- and where I live (Midwest US), it is overflowing. With so many people using it constantly here, I experience eco-anxiety.
We went to a boushie supermarket in our city once. The fresh produce looked amazing. Definitely superior to the stuff they are giving to the plebs, however it was much more expensive. Even the artisan breads were more expensive. It was a chain store, just looking at it in terms of higher income areas. I'm lucky where I've lived i still have access to small fresh produce stores where they prioritise buying from local farmers. It's still very common in the small country towns I have lived in for a while. I think they wrap fresh produce in plastic to preserve it longer to help prevent food wastage
It’s always interesting to visit different supermarkerts and see what they take in of sustainable, low impact products. Sometimes I do it in Norway as well.🙈 Often it’s not that impressive, but love that we’re getting health stores that take some responsibility! 😍
I go to different stores for different things, for example if I want to buy vegan mayo I will go to a bigger supermarket and I if I need spices or produce I will go to farmer’s market. I think thats a good thing to do, not going to the store like a one-stop-shop but take your time and really explore your possibilities, making sure you get the most quality items as well as the best deals.
I too cannot give up my vegan Mayo. However, idk if you have this where you are, but in the US we have the “follow your heart” brand veganaise which I have been having since I was a child and I actually find I like it better than the hellmans. Not sure how close it tastes to real Mayo considering I’ve never had that (at least not intentionally or knowingly) but it’s definitely worth the try if you haven’t already :)
Another awesome video beautiful Gittemary and great to see how you can buy plastic free fruit and vegetables in Denmark. I always try to buy the plastic free option when buying produce ( when I don't manage to grow my own). Love 🥰 the video and love 💕 Gittemary.
Here in Finland we got in the fruits and vegetables section, besides small plastic bag a paper one or fully biogretable one. I think it's cool that u can have other options if u happend to forgot you're own small tote bag :)
I've heard that pears get bruised really easily, and if they aren't packaged, they still have to be shipped in individual styrofoam wrappers or something so they don't get smushed. If you're able to find package-free pears, they probably still got shipped in packaging and then stripped down before being put on display.
Pears are totally superior to apples🍐 I was scrolling on RUclips the other day and this lady called SHELBIZLEEE popped up. She was almost ( You are nr 1 sustainable badass😉) the American versions of you. I'm sure you already know her.
Nexba kombucha has added sweeteners. It is awful in my opinion. I recently moved country and have been having trouble finding proper Kombucha. I think I need to make my own!
have you ever tried Georgian Wine? (As Georgia is the cradle of Wine and you love wine, you should stock up on it #not-sponsored 😍 Here in Hamburg the Brand Jacques carries it but I believe you can also get some at Kaufland or special Georgian Wine Stores (Geo Vino) or online. Great video as always! Love how dedicated the woman was to getting you Vegan patties! I love your contagious enthusiasm and your positive energy; also how awesome are your earrings?!
My major trust issues would prevent me from buying something labelled "vegetable spring rolls" without knowing all the ingredients. The diversion the deli woman created for you would make me think that she needed time to put some chicken into the rolls. 🤣🤣🤣 Love the content recently.
Amazing video once again!! I just discovered your channel 3 weeks ago when I visited copenhagen and I must say, thanks for all the great food/second hand recommendations and thanks for the inspiring content! Amazing to see the pepper thing, I haven't had green peppers in forever. Because here in the store they are unripe red peppers and I noticed just like bananas that I wasn't digesting them as well as their ripe counterparts. However there is a green variety that stays green when ripe but I haven't found it in Belgium or the NL. Can I change your mind on non pepper related topic though? I work for an environmental NGO on resources and waste and the pasta in the separate plastic bag with the cardboard outer box is actually not that bad. I mean, combined material with the small plastic window integrated with cardboard is even worse than the loose bag. Because it mixes materials, impeding the recycling of both the cardboard and the plastic. Does the glass have deposit also have deposit like the can? Because if it is not reused and thus washed and filled again is also often not more sustainable than another materials as it is very energy intensive proces to recycle glass. I am very curious to learn more about the Danish situation
i like the word funky.... i would use it for clothes for sure... but often - in Australia at least - when we use Funky talking about food - it almost always means "gone bad" or tastes weird.... but I don't think you mean that about the oils! :)
What about stores where restaurants and businesses buy their stuff 🤔 here in Germany we have metro and ratio but I think it would be hard to find zero waste stuff there
I still can't get pass the single packaged tomatoe.. YOU CAN HAVE SALES IN WINES??? No way there would be one in Finland, not even in alcohol free ones. No buy 1 get 2 at least
This series is great! Also in middle-Europe, the cheaper super markets have less packaging in the produce section rather than the expensive markets. Odd... You would think that an expensive store would handle their fruit and veg carefully. But often the more expensive markets have more imported produce... Maybe that's a reason, to save the more expensive produce from harm during tranpsort. That's what packaging would be intended to do. What's done with the pears e.g. is overpackaging by the book.
Hey just wanted to let you know: the brand of chocolate spread you got is quite controversial. It’s a german family business and the owner(s) have been under a lot of scrutiny for some conspiracy theory-like statements around covid. This is not to criticize you at all! Just thought you might wanna check it out and decide for yourself 💕
Watched this with my 3yo daughter who commented "She's a nice happy lady. I like her a lot."
Omg in Georgia you would be in Spices heaven, because on farmers markets they sell spices in bulk, you can bring your container and buy everything, also make blends right at the stall.
I would LOVE to go to spice heaven 😭👌
"Thoroughly wrapped in plastic" is my new band name. (Also apples make my stomach hurt in the morning as well - supposedly is the sorbitol)
Omg are we…. Starting a band!? 😱
I'm from the US, and I really like seeing grocery stores from around the world. Also, I like low-waste living.
Really seems like a store that's a good option for gifts but not for everyday shopping. I didn't like raw peppers when I was younger but now I like them so my taste has changed.
If you have never grown a purple pepper you're missing out 🤣 they're so fun, but more reminiscent of green peppers

Just recently revisited a bulk store in my area and they’ve renovated and it’s massive, so many bulk herbs you would have loved it

my favourites are the orange capsicum/peppers :D green is my least favourite at least raw but it is growing on my slowly

Hi Gittemary! Thanks for another fantastic video! 🌱 Have you ever tried Lidl's Vemondo vegan mayonnaise? It's my favorite one! 😋
I too cannot give up my vegan Mayo. Red and orange peppers are the best! Yellow is too sweet and green stays with me all day? Haha
Here in Finland we got in the fruits and vegetables section, besides small plastic bag a paper one or fully biogretable one. I think it's cool that u can have other options if u happend to forgot you're own small tote bag :)
They sell reusable polyester fabric produce bags in S-Market, K-Market and Halpahalli. You just need to buy it first before you can use it.
I love pears! there's a cafe near me that serves pear juice, and it's so good.
I've heard that pears get bruised really easily, and if they aren't packaged, they still have to be shipped in individual styrofoam wrappers or something so they don't get smushed. Also Sustainably vegan has similar content (she and Shelby are friends) if you are looking for more content

LOL! That would be terrible, though.
That’s so sad because that same brand mayo in America is all produced with plastic. Also love the video and your outfit is to die for!
Well, it is unilever. They’re known to cut corners, to say the least
Amazing video once again!! I just discovered your channel 3 weeks ago when I visited copenhagen and I must say, thanks for all the great food/second hand recommendations and thanks for the inspiring content!

Можно оторвать эту пластиковую вставку. Что сложного?
Basically a video of unpopular opinions. Green peppers are better than red ones, pears better than apples… What‘s next? 😂
pineapple belongs on pizza 😂
Oh I can accept that 😁

I really like this spot for filming. Maybe a bit of indirect lighting in the right corner for ambiance?
Yes I’ll definitely need to add some balance in the background ✨✨
If you ever some to Orange County, CA I will buy you dinner and take you zero waste shopping.
never seen ketchup in that format before!
Thank your for the video 🤍
Eating the chocolate spread with a spoon. Relatable. 😅😳🍫
seize the day 🥄
What currency are those prices in?
Danish Crowns 😊
Except when you have an apple tree in your backyard but your pear tree died, you tend to eat a TON more apples
I scored 2 bottle of orangic tomatoe juice in glass today. For $1.99 each last 2
Heavy? Get a shopping trolley. It's not just an old people thing 💪
A trolley won’t help me up the stairs to the 4th floor 💀
What about stores where restaurants and businesses buy their stuff 🤔 here in Germany we have metro and ratio but I think it would be hard to find zero waste stuff there
could you explain the pricing of the items you find in your grocery store, the prices seem awfully high
They’re in DKK 😊
I still can't get pass the single packaged tomatoe..
YOU CAN HAVE SALES IN WINES??? No way there would be one in Finland, not even in alcohol free ones.
No buy 1 get 2 at least

We're slowly filling her up.
The wine rack? Indeed

Loved the video...but I am team apples and red pepper, can we still be friends? 🤔
I’ll allow it 😎
🍐💖
I'd like to know what it was like shopping in the medieval era without our modern systems 🫣😂
probably involved less digital currency and a lot more scurvy 🤫
