My Great Grandpa was in the US Army in WW1. A bad case of strep throat was going around and the supply lines were broken and no antibiotics were to be had. A French soldier gave him a couple cloves of garlic and told him to eat it with lunch and supper. The next day it was almost cured. His French buddy ran over under fire the next day and brought him some more. The day after he was cured. Great Grandpa did not see his buddy the next day to tell him the good news. He found out a few days later a sniper got him while he was bringing a 30 pound sack of garlic to US troops. To this day I always call garlic French Penicillin or foxhole penicillin. Great Grandpa always said to remember France was America's first and only allie in The American Revolution and helped turn the tide against the Brittish and to pray for Jehans family he left behind. Great video sir!
Thanks so much for watching
What a wonderful story!! And so true. My great grandpa was in WW1 as well. We had lots of these stories told to us. Also, I grew up on my great grandparents farm. They taught me all these home remedies. Most ppl don't realize all drugs created came from plants and things right here on Mother Earth. They even travel to places out in the wild to find plants for cures. Then they synthesize it and make a chemical with the same make up. Lots cheaper than growing those plants but it becomes a chemical drug no longer natural which just isn't the same for our bodies. I appreciate you sharing your story!! I will be sharing with my family if that's OK? 😊❤

My 102 year old grandpa was asked what was his secret to longevity. He said number 1 is stay away from doctors because they'll kill ya. Number 2 was he drank a small glass of bourbon every night before bedtime. Number 3 was to make your wife think she was right even when she wasn't. I've had some great times with my grandfather who was a muleskinner in the Oklahoma oilfields when he was a teenager. Cowboy Kent's mannerisms reminds me of my Grandpa's. I'm curious, we were told how they would 'fry down' meat to preserve it since there was no refrigerators back then. They'd cook the meat, pour some of the grease in a barrel , add meat ...repeat.. until all the available meat was packed in the "tallow." I guess air couldn't get to the meat so it stayed edible for a while. I wonder if Kent's kin did that?
Most folks would be astonished at the amount of Vitamin C in an onion, or how good garlic is for the circulatory system. A whole lot of "folk remedies" are based on hard-earned experience.

I was lucky enough as a newborn in 1960 to be adopted by a mid 60's couple that went through the great depression in the mountains of West VA. Raw honey, lemon juice, peppermint, chamomile, cayenne/hot pepper, ginger and cinnamon. All that as a tea will help you a lot! My granny used to give us that and a cough medication she made with hot peppers onions and honey. It worked too and she grew all that herself veg and herbs. She wasn't against giving you a touch of Jim beam or moonshine for when you were REALLY in bad shape. I miss my granny so much and she taught me a lot especially about natural medicines. She grew up during the Depression and WW2 in coal country where doctors and medicine was scarce and people had to make a dollar outta 15 cents.
They used dandelion a lot too, wild ginseng, catnip, she gave me a wealth of knowledge about what we can use.
My favorite home remedy growing up is a tea my mom would make me every time I got sick. She’d put a whole red onion cut in half, 2 whole cinnamon sticks and 2 whole lemons cut in half all in a pot. Fill the pot until everything is fully submerged then let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Serve each cup with a a tablespoon of raw honey. It would help every single time and to this day I’ll make it for myself and my loved one
Not only is that a fantastic remedy, but what a great memory.

You are welcome to come up to the mountains north of Boise, Idaho, where I live. Right now it is snowing big fluffy flakes like somebody broke a feather pillow open, but nothing is sticking, and I will get out the chessboard. In Brazil our cowboys that we call gauchos would drink Pineapple juice, onion, and garlic to help with a cough or sinus issue. It is cool to see similar remedies from up north.
I thought gauchos were Argentinian, unless they covered both Brazil, Argentina, and maybe some parts of Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
@@canaisyoung3601 back in the day borders were more fluid. Gauchos are from the Río de la Plata basin, south Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Alot of cattle are and have been raised in this area.
Both my parents are from cattle ranching families here in the US. Both use basically the same cure: honey and lemon juice heated with finely ground garlic cloves and/or the juice of garlic cloves. Once heated whiskey is added and the concoction is consumed. Works very well, my friend.

About honey. That that has a label from a company/big box store/grocery store label has been heated to flow into the bottles. When heated the beneficial enzymes, etc are killed or destroyed. And it is just a sweetener. For medicinal use you want honey with an individual's label on it. They do not heat to bottle and it has all the 'good' stuff intact.
I was not aware that Big Box Honey supply is heated first. Thank you for this.
Need to purchase raw honey. Buy from local bee keeper

…as you poured your high UMF content into tea….I’ve used cheap and expensive honey my throat and body didn’t notice. Or my mouth.
My great grandma was from the mountains of Puerto Rico. She was a curandera and knew a whole bunch of home remedies. My mom said that she would make a tea out of peppermint, oregano I think, and basil for stomach aches. And boiled and mashed plantain leaves for rashes and bruises. I wish her methods were passed down because they seemingly died off with her when she died. She was 96 and still in good shape and lived by herself into her 90's, so she must have known what she was doing.
I feel your pain. My grandmother cooked like a chef, like most of the ladies back then, when they were "ignorant". Thanks to modern stupid ideas we forget where the real wisdom is! Learning the old ways again which are the best!!!
Dear Sir, I appreciate you taking the time to share with us your knowledge. You see, I'm from Mexico and some of this remedies are popular, some of them aren't. I will share with you a "Vitamin Bomb shake" that I drink everyday and I assure you, this will help you with every process going on you body:
1 slice of pineapple
1 medium size apple (any kind)
1 cellery sprig
1 tablespoon of whole linseed
1 tablespoon of oats
2-3 cups of chia water (or regular water also works fine)
1 medium sized nopal (this ones are harder to get outside Mexico, if it is not included, It'll work just fine)
1/2 finger of peeled and sliced ginger
1/4 finger of peeled and sliced turmeric (powdered or pickled is not as effective as in root, but it can make the deal)
Put all of this in a blender for like 2 to 3 minutes on medium speed and you'll get almost one liter of this blend. I know, it can be much and the consistency might not be pleasant, but I can tell you I haven't gone to the doctor for 5 years since I started taking this every morning.
Keep on doing an outstanding job and I wish you the best.

Half of our town became so very much more respectful to them, AND. One another/Playing Ball, & Games of all kinds. For the ole-time thing's that GP SWORN bye was a small hunk of garlic everyday! No Matter What! No wonder that everytime I went to visit, he had a Pot-O-Sumpin, on the stove, Bread n butta, Salt n peppa on the Table! He told me about cures, and many food recipes. Esp. I could listen to this man all day! I learn so much, thank you for taking the time to teach us these wonderful things.
My father (rip) used to drink from a jar of chopped garlic in water and olive oil every morning. He passed at 86 but never had a cold, sore throat, flu that I noticed.
Morning Ken and Shan I was born in Mexico and raised in California and I remember my Dad loved going hunting and when the night came He would make a coffee like that to improve our immune system so thank you for this video please be safe and God bless you and God Bless this beautiful amazing country we live in
Thanks for watching and God bless you
I could listen to his pearls of wisdom all day, great video as always, I love his accent aswell where is he from in the states?
My respect to you and your family Sir! Always bringing some good recipies for us! Cheers from Brazil 💯
Growing up my Dad made our cough syrup with one shot lemon juice, one shot of honey and one shot of Jim Beam. Good medicine it was. One of the best dietary sources of vitamin D3, second only to Cod Liver oil is Lard. One tablespoon contains 1000 international units. 4000 IU's per day are recomended. The D3 in Lard is fat soluble so easily absorbed by our bodies. Natural is always best. Thank you cowboy Kent, for the great videos !!
I like you're dad.
Tallow (beef fat) too, just as good as lard for vitamins ds, vitamin k and minerals , tastes amazing, makes all recipes rich and savory, and easier to find higher quality than pork fat (confession: I'm biased and don't eat pork, standards keep getting lowered and can be very low quality and dirty meat, and pork is bad for my blood type)
Lots of butchers that sell salmon will often have salmon heads and spines to sell or just give away, makes an incredible tasting stock and salmon is packed full of d3, antioxidants, and lots of healthy oils
Make it yourself

Just strain it well and let it cool and set up.
That junk in the store is more than likely hydrogenated, so they've crammed bad fats in with the good.
I use a low carb, whole foods diet to manage my Diabetes
Eight yrs now, zero meds. Zero issues. Blood work is always normal.
When you get back to food that's created by dirt, a little rain and sunshine, and get away from crap made in a factory, you'd be amazed what your body can do to fix itself.

That stuff is a miracle drug!
One shot of that mess and you could do anything to prove you didn't need a second! Run, fly, walk on water, lift a tractor with two fingers. . . anything!!!
Forty years on and I can still taste the stuff when I talk about it and it still makes my skin crawl!!! LOL
15 drops and as much sugar as the gravy soon would hold.
Didn't help one bit.
It may be why I never really did like sugar in the first place. LOL
Very good! My grandma who was born in the mid 1880’s passed every one of these recipes to use throughout her years. She came up in a time (she was a native AZ pioneer) when you didn’t just go to the grocery. She maintained this lifestyle throughout her life. I could tell you some true & vivid stories, but I digress. Grandma would put the entire onion in your sick room & even used it as an air purifier during cold season. She grew mint in her garden & anytime someone got a bellyache she sent them out to pick some peppermint leaves. She told us to just chew them up & they worked. I still use this among other things to this day.
Where would the onion be in the room? Just anywhere? Do you need to peel it first?
Kool. Was she native american? Or do you mean like a colonial pioneer?
@@biker5662 I was told put the onion next to your bed. I'd cut it in half.
Me too
Love you and your channel. Just had a wicked cold did the three cloves of garlic and jalapeños through out the day yesterday. But the evening I was feeling better and this morning almost completely better. May God continue to bless you
Thank you, Cowboy Kent! God bless you and your family 😊🙏
You are so welcome
30+ years ago I visited with an old Wyoming Cowboy about his cowboy experiences. His first week working on a big ranch he deeply cut his hand on a rawhide lead and was directed to the cook. The young cowboy thought it was curious that the cook dismantled the oil lamp but even more surprised when the cook grabbed his thumb and poured the coal oil into his wound and then bound his hand. It hurt like Hell but after in a few days was nicely healed. Sulfur in the oil was the secret, he claimed.
I also heard the poor would do this with sugar for syrup.......nasty. I also witnessed this wound care in Tennessee 20 years ago when a guy cut his hand, he paid $1 for Karoseen and I was floored. Love these old remedies, God gave us all this natural medicine.
I love this man. Such a wholesome and positive person, we definitely need more personalities like Kent in America. There's way too much toxicity in America.
Agreed but that toxicity is mostly in the cities. Angry people live there. Small towns USA and the Midwest have the nicest wholesome real people. Nature brings out the best in people and lack of it brings out the worst.
I wish I could meet you. So lovely of a person
@@cf4376 Unless you're trans or black I guess or a scientist. Truth is it sucks everywhere for a variety of different reasons. Cities have problems and so does everywhere else. And let's never forget the Native Americans
Maybe they need to put some onions in there socks.
East Colonial-Era America, Mid-West Cowboys and even Pre-Colonial North American youtube channels are so good, I adore this, not only do the people running them are knowledgeable about what they teach, but they love it! That's what matters! Thank you, Kent Rollins!
My husband & I have been searching for information like this, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING THIS WITH US!!!! ❤️ 😊 💕 YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME 👌
We thank you both for watching
Now listen, im a 20-some girl from the Midwest that has grown up playing in dirt when others thought it was weird. I've learned about half of these on my own, and got taught about the bourbon/honey/lemon as I got a bit older. This warms my heart so much to see others living like this still ❤ (also listen to him when he talks about the sun, I swear that its the best medicine)
I've been getting pneumonia every year for the past 9 years, except 2020. My boss laughs at me, because when I feel it starting up I take a Whiskey Day off. I start with a Hot Toddy, and then alternate between a half shot of whiskey mixed with a half shot of 7-Up, and a shot of full whiskey and aon throughout the day. In all these years, I've only had to go to the Dr twice -- the 1st time I found out what I had, and last year because I didn't have any whiskey in the house and it was 3 days before I could get some (gave the pneumonia a chance to take hold, I didn't catch it in time). He can laugh all he wants, it WORKS.
Playing in the dirt is a really good immune booster. If you don't still play in the dirt, take up gardening and be sure not to wear a face mask, as they breed pneumonia and cancer.
@Sandy M I've now had both the Prevnar 13 & 23 pneumonia vaccines. I had pneumonia 22 years ago and almost didn't survive. I'm set for life now, you should look into them, they are lifesavers

Haw! We called it vitamin S. Instead of D.
Like your remedies, I make a tea with 1/2 teaspoon of minced garlic, Tablespoon of honey,
4 or 5 shakes out of a bottle of cholula sweet habanero or frank's red hot hot sauce and
some lemon. Cures any cold in no time if you start drinking as soon as you feel it coming on.
I drink it 4 to5 times a week during the winter to stay healthy. Nature provides what we need
to stay healthy.
My g+ grandfather left his home in Indiana when he was 17 or 18 and headed for Abilene, KS. He got a job as a cattle driver and ranch hand. Eventually he became a scout for General Crook. He met and married my g+ grandmother in Nebraska, they eventually moved to South Dakota where my grandmother was from, she was Oglala Lakota from Pine Ridge. There he worked as a scout, rancher, sheriff, and store owner. He was a friend to Wild Bill Hickok.
Still the best...Cowboy Kent..keep on keepin on!!!!!! God bless you and your beautiful bide!!!!
My great grandmother used to put Vick's salve on a tube sock and pin it around our neck for a sore throat. I've been known to use an onion poultice on the chest to break up bronchitis. God bless you, Kent & Shannon! ❤️🙏
I never did like Vicks i was raised on Soltice just rub on chest n back then crawl imto bed it would open up your lungs n get you breathing again i still use it to this day its hard to find nowadays but i have my pharmacy to get it for me
As an EMT and a certified medical assistant, thank you to YOU, Kent Rollins, for your very kind words and support of all of the men and women working in the medical field and, indeed, all those considered essential in this time. It is good to know you have our backs and are out there!

Humans are self destructive too much lately - even the woe is me bit. I can see neither the idea nobody cares about us routine OR the evil in world is getting us anywhere but more sorrow, spite or worse.
Now that was entertaining, educational and down right fun. Great content and great folks.
I remember the Choctaw and Cherokee growing up in Oklahoma using crushed Mud Dauber wasp nest as a powder for rashes, always worked quickly.
In these strange times, it's feller's like you that keep everything in perspective. Thanks brother
Beat the devil ,be nice.
Mr. Rollins I found you a few couple years back during a depressed time in my life. As I am a cook and treat my Kitchen like my Church, you not only added to my menu, but you, Shannon, and All the pups have made me happy to just enjoy every video. God bless you.🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇲🇺🇸
Kent,
Thank you for all your great posts. You are an awesome individual! Please keep them coming Sir….
Thank you Cowboy Kent Rollins for your amazing work.
Mornin’ Ken and Shan. I’ve already been foraging out in the front forest and the fields full of bluebonnets.
My mamaw taught cooking, canning and such but the most importantly was how to keep my family healthy. Later I became a paramedic for 27 years helping others but for family and friends I try to keep medicine as close to nature as possible. I still learn something new from y’all all the time! Thanks for sharing and caring.
Thanks for watching and be safe
The nod to the legendary Justin Wilson made my heart swell up
I love Justin to ❤️
I gar-un-teeeeeeee!
I liked when Justin would dip his bread in his wine.
Mine too. But Kent's French nasals need a little work. :-)
@Karla Kirkpatrick Nope, Justin said to add whatever wine you like to drink! He wasn't a connoisseur by any means 😂
I can see the American spirit is still very much alive. Keep it up!
You inspire so many young people like me each day with your work!
This is my first video of yours I've seen. Thank you for the information but also the bloopers! Keeps it engaging and funny
greetings from Austria ,my grandmother had the perfect recipe for coughs, you put pieces of onion in honey overnight or longer (you can also make them in advance) the honey becomes completely runny/aqueous and works wonders! a tablespoon of it and the urge to cough is gone immediately.
Unfortunately, my grandmother is no more, but I still use her recipes today without exception
I read a lot that this remedy does work. I prefer making cooked cause of the after smell, onion in eggs or soups
Kent, can ya please do some more episodes like this about some cowboy cures? Not only was this informative but it was also very entertaining. 🙂
Thanks for the cowboy cures! I also found out if you remove the root (germ) it helps with indigestion that can happen with raw garlic! I learned that and it was a game changer
These are the best! Thanks for sharing this! Health is wealth!
Garlic, cayenne pepper, cider vinegar are things I supplement with daily. I’m never sick and never feeling run down, work 50 hrs a week and still feel fresh to chop wood on the weekends.
do you make a tonic with these? How do you use?

I think that's one of the reasons why I've always been so healthy even at 66 today, garlic, onions, chilies & yes raw local honey & honey comb since I was a kid for my allergies.
My Mom had an old remedy book writen by a Dr. in the late 1800's she found at a rummage sale.
She used them all on us. Only one I couldn't use was the sulfur remedy because I'm allergic to sulfas.
The apple cider vinegar remedy everyone raves about today like it's the new thing, did that one to from the book lol.
Those have been proven by the test of time.
Thank you for including them.
Those old remedies work.
My grandfather was a city and country doctor in the 1920s to the 1960s. Yep, all these remedies work. The Momma's only called the doctor for birthing babies, broken bones, deep cuts farm accidents, work accidents and odd things. Common colds the Momma's took care of at home.
My Dad & Grandfather and men alike kept copper pennies in their pocket. After shaking hands they grabbed a bunch of pennies and held it in their hand. Copper is a natural germ killer/antiviral. Kills germs in seconds. Why old hand rails were made out of copper. ✌
I have a book called 20,000 Secrets of Tea. Has all the medicinal and nutritional properties of different plants and herbs. Very informative. Out of print now, but can find online. Well worth having. If you use nutritional tracking on sites like Cronometer, it is amazing how much nutrition in herbs and even weeds.
To address the copper pennies comment. It is said the pioneers kept a silver coin in the water barrel on wagon train 🚃to keep water fresh.
Hey Kent, revisiting some older videos and good info. and a laugh or two. My sympathies to Shannon and all the great ladies out there who put up with characters like us! God bless you my friend and keep on cowboyin'.
My hats off to your MRS. NEVER A DULL MOMENT AT HER HOUSE YOUR A GOOD ENTERTAINER AND EDUCATOR AND CARE SO MUCH FROM YOUR HEART I LEARNED SO MUCH IM A REMEDY PERSON MYSELF RAISED UP THAT WAY BUT YOU ADDED THINGS I DIDN'T KNOW
I'm 44 years old and I still use these old remedies, and have passed all the old remediea down to my children. Never called off a day yet, being a single mom couldn't afford it. Great job spreading the news of these great old remedies. Thanks for your great videos, keep up the great work Kent and Shannon.
