He's been a top 3 guard defender in the league for 7+ years. He's carried teams with liabilities like IT, Kyrie, and Kemba to great defensive seasons. There probably hasn't been a game in his career where someone else on the court had more hustle than him. He deserves this man, he really does.
Well over due Marcus is so under rated most of the time. Its great to see him get the recognition he's earned
bro it always amazes me his first 5 years no one even thought of him as an all defensive player and now at this point it's just like people have no choice but to accept how good he is after he has proven he makes huge defensive plays year after year game after game in the most crucial moments. the only thing ppl seen before was his flopping but he removed that from his game mostly and now he is getting respect

@@tradeka4206 there is a huge chance that we get the time lord back saturday because at the point it would be 5 weeks after he got injured and they said he would be out 4-6 weeks he also practiced yesterday
@@obama1620 yeah I know but I’m just assuming we don’t get him back to be on the safe side. If anything if we could (which I know we can) beat them without him and let him rest and heal up a little longer I like that better. I’d rather not risk him getting injured again. Obviously the medical staff know what they’re doing and I trust that they made the right decision with the surgery and that they’ll make the right decision on when to bring him back

@@hotness1113 fax they have the best defense and they have a fringe top 10 scorer in Tatum (26.9ppg) they also have Jaylen Brown, they have the best perimeter defender in smart, if robert williams comes back then they have a higher chance of winning and hes a top 5-10 rim protector in the league they also have al horford too hes still a good defender

People talk about guys like Mikal and Jrue as being the best perimeter defenders in the league. But for me, it's always been Marcus. He has that extra level those guys just don't have. He doesn't just shut guys down, he makes game winning plays on defense. The intensity and determination he brings on that side is unrivaled in the league. The only other guys I've ever seen play with that edge are KG and Rodman. We're extremely lucky to have him in Boston and I'm so glad we never traded him when people were calling to blow this team up. This is a well deserved award.

He is all over in the game.. So inspirational what he is doing, diving for the ball, give his body to get offensive. He deserve the award.
He's a family favorite. The longest tenured Celtic and the Leader. It's really good to see.
So proud. I always believed in this guy and he quickly became one of my three favorite players ever, but never thought he would be able to win this award, given how its voted. Really feel proud of him.
And so many of these plays are in the 4th quarter. He wins us so many games.

Him yelling for JB to “get his ish together” at 1:00 is why we love and literally need this man to be in Boston! I’m a STL Cardinals fan too and I view Smart’s influence on the C’s pretty much exactly like I view Yadi’s for the Cards…the importance of having someone like that on your team is huge imo!!
So happy for Marcus, I’m a Celtics fan and I’ve been watching him for eight years he played his heart out every single night and he’s gotten better every year, congratulations well deserved!
And these were the ones that show up in the stats / highlights..the plays he "locked up" aren't even here yet.

His court awareness is just completely insane when look at how quickly he reacts. My favorite player on my favorite team!
The fact that he not only knocks balls loose and dives on the floor without hesitation constantly but he's done this stuff so many times that he almost always immediately passes the ball to a teammate while still on the ground while everyone else is in disarray! The dude truly is on a whole nother level then anyone else when it comes to giving it all he has every game! There isn't anyone else in the league today that does what Smart has done for the last 8 years! No one ever in the NBA has sacrificed their body diving on the floor, taking charges, guarding guys 8 inches taller and doing everything possible to win as much as Smart has! He plays every game like its his last and leaves everything he has on the court every game for his brother and his mother! There is very few basketball players I've watch in my life that are as competitive and has as much passion for the sport as Marcus Smart! I'm glad that he's finally gotten the recognition that's he deserves for all work that he does! No one deserves that award more then he does! Anyone who thinks otherwise has never played a sport in their lives or us just a straight up hater!

He steals is better then Gary Payton. He predicts enemy's movement so well and just snatch it like a piece of cake. Besides the mentality to do whatever it takes to get the ball for the team. 💪

Smart probably has more assists sitting on his butt than any other player in history 😂. He’s always on the floor getting the ball and then making a great pass to start the fast break while still on the ground

Smart’s combo of strength and how magnetically attracted his hands seem to be to the ball is why he makes so many more ridiculous plays on the ball without fouling than just about anyone else…lol and I couldn’t be more proud and happy for our boy for never letting up and finally taking that thing home! #DPOY🏆😤🍀
