Beretta Silver Pigeon Sporter Review After 2 Months and 1200 Shots ROGER PACE

  • The video looks at gun fit and the various types of guns that are out there. Is an adjustable stock really necessary?
    Does the silver pigeon do the job in different types of clay disciplines.
    Is an expensive gun necessary or just a joy and pleasure to hold and look at the fine machining and hand engraving?
    Has the Beretta been reliable over the last two months? Will it do the job for you and should you buy one. Thank You...... ROGER PACE

    I started shooting trap with a Franchi Instinct. I chose it to serve multiple purposes, ie: trap, sporting clays and upland bird hunting. I also have the option of doubles trap if I decide to try it.
    I have high cheek bones so I did have to add a riser to the comb to get it to align my eye with the bead.
    Two years ago I bought a used Browning BT-99 with a 32 inch barrel for down the line and handicap. I noticed right away an improvement on my scores, especially on handicap. I had to add a comb riser to it as well.
    Keep the videos coming!

    Nice video! I too love the 686 series. But I’m a hunter, not a sport shooter. I’ll shoot sporting clays maybe once per year, but I’ll hunt all upland game species by making at least 20+ trips during the year for table fare. Dove, quail, pheasant, chukar, cottontail rabbit and woodcock. Then there’s ducks and geese which is another field event I do a few times per year. My Beretta 687 is now my main gun for those activities. I did however purchase the 687 because I liked the slightly nicer aesthetics, wood and deeper engraving of the gun, but it is the same “bullet proof” action as the 686.
    My 687 came with 5 chokes, but my dealer threw in two additional Beretta optima HP chokes of my choosing and for free. My SKB SxS of 40+ years has now taken a back seat for all of my upland hunts.

    I bought Beretta Silver Pigeon 1 Sporting 30” Barrels few years ago.
    I’m more like a hunter rather than a clay shooter and this gun does both beautifully.
    Doesn’t have the vented ribs I just don’t like the look of it but they do serve a purpose I believe.
    Now I’m into the side by side guns
    Got a silver hawk 471 20 gauge 28” barrels and the 486 Paralello 12 gauge 30” barrels
    Yes I’m a Beretta huge fan, for a reason
    Nothing beats the traditional classical guns especially for hunting.
    The DT 11 is a beautiful piece of art and yes if you wanna spoil yourself get it but you already have a wonderful SP1 Sporter maybe you should consider the 486 Paralello instead 😜 joking joking joking if you’re not into hunting then what’s the point unless you want it to be a safe queen.
    I never knew there was SP1 sporter until I watched your video.
    Mine is sporting and I wanted the field version with lower rib but wasn’t available at that time so I got the sporting version instead and I don’t regret it so will do more clay shooting more often
    Thanks for the video pleasure to watch like always

    Have to agree with you Roger. I was always a Browning/Miroku shooter because being a big guy I liked the weight, but I’ve just bought a basic fixed choke 2009 Silver pigeon for £600, no extras but in good sound condition. My shooting has marginally improved with the beretta and I just like shooting gun, not concerned about the looks. Between that and my 26 year old Browning 425 I think I’ve got the 2 guns that suit me now and (probably? ) won’t change either 😊. Enjoy your vids over here in Liverpool. Best wishes.

    Roger, When I started shooting I was on an industrial trap team, in USA. Started out with a Laurona. Short barrel, fixed choke ,field gun. I shot a few 25's and a couple of 50' with that "wrong gun". I now have a 682 trap combo and a 687 EELL trap X. The Laurona still feels the best and I can control the best. In fact, After years in the safe, I took it out last December and it did as usual, 23,22,24. You are so right when you say the higher grades are not always the high scorers. How a gun fits and handles is way more important than wood and engraving. But I do have a couple of EELLs and an EL that are really nice to look at. Not to mention show off at the trap range. Take care Brian

    I picked up an older 686 field gun with fixed chokes in a 20g with 26 inch barrels. I didn’t have very high expectations - was planning just to use it for hunting. Took it clay shooting and I’ve never shot better. I’m a believer.

    Bought a silver pigeon game in 1996 and always regretted not getting a sporter.not used it in 10 years. Recently got into clays and traded for a 30" silver pigeon 1 sporter yesterday and shot a 50 bird practice at olympic ball trap with 23/25 1st round and 2nd round with only 1 shot to count on each bird hitting 18 for a total score of 41. Not bad for its first outing. Delighted with it

    Hi Roger! I've watched all your videos and I really like your relaxed style and the old school presentations. Hopefully you'll keep making more videos.
    I'm buying a new gun and I'm getting a Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon I Sporting with an adjustable stock. The only thing I can't decide is if I should get 28" or 30" barrels. I'll be using it for everything. Sporting, international skeet and the occasional trap round. I'll also be hunting with it. I've been using a semi auto with 28" barrels which is about exactly the same overall length as the 686 with 30" barrels, and I've done very well with it.
    Also handled a 692 at the gun store which felt great but I can't justify paying twice as much for it compared to a 686. Probably will end up getting the 30" barrels as a bit of a compromise for all around use. Hopefully I won't come to regret the extra 2 inches when I've walked all day in the fields with my dogs.

    • @rogerpace9322
      @rogerpace9322  7 лет назад

      Papu...it is a brilliant gun and will do all those things you say...mine had 30" barrels ...and that is what I would recommend...stay well!

    • @papubiinitsi342
      @papubiinitsi342 7 лет назад

      Thanks Roger! If you're looking for ideas for future videos, barrel length might be a good one.
      How does barrel length effect the balance and swing of the gun? What are the advantages and disadvantages of different barrel lengths? How does barrel weight affect the required barrel length?
      I know the answer to barrel length is always personal preference but it
      might be an interesting topic to talk about objectively.

    Nice video! I just ordered the 686 SP I sporting AS earlier today. This was after a lot of contemplation. I had shortlisted the 694, 690 black, and the 686. As you mentioned too, all Beretta shotguns shoot very well and as a beginner, I do not fancy the high-end wood and engraving. Therefore, decided to buy the 686. I am gonna use the money saved for practicing at the range or get some lessons.

      @@rogerpace9322 The range opened up here in Germany last week again and I did make the best of it. I shoot international Skeet as an absolute beginner. I did not pattern the gun and was missing almost everything on the low side. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to the next session. In the meanwhile, I built myself a Skeet trainer. I've tried to match the target speeds to the best of my ability. Using this tool to practice the mount, lead, and followthrough. You can check it out here.ruclips.net/video/TOIwytW9ucE/видео.html

    Greetings Roger from the old USA. I have been considering the purchase of the Beretta Silver Pigeon and wanted to ask you are the barrels chrome lined?
    Thanks for the informative video - thumbs up!

      Journeyman...the barrels are chromed and its probably one of the most reliable guns around!

    What changed your mind about adjustable stocks? I am considering a SP 30” for trap, skeet and sporting. No adjustable stock. You moved up to a 690?

    • @rogerpace9322
      @rogerpace9322  5 лет назад

      Ed ...moved to a 690 because the silver pigeon did not have an adjustable stock...need to adjust for POI

    Does the Silver Pigeon Sport come with a double rib barrel? I've been looking online to buy one but they don't have double ribs. How did you get yours?

    • @rogerpace9322
      @rogerpace9322  8 лет назад

      +vizi0123 Sorry for the late reply but i have been away on holidays for a week in sunny queensland ...the sporter is an o/u and has a single 8mm rib... the pattern shoots about 60%top and 40% bottom from point of aim... I got mine from Fisher fire arms in adelaide they now cost $2950 Australian ...best wishes ...roger

    Hi Roger , I am thinking to buy Beretta SP1 Sporting... Are you having any problem with the gun until now?

    • @rogerpace9322
      @rogerpace9322  8 лет назад

      Vastaiko...I am happy to say that the gun has never had a fail to fire...I thought it did once but i left the fired cartridge in the top barrel...it's a very reliable gun and I am very happy with it...stay well ...Roger

      vastaiko you won’t go wrong with it I have the sporting version and I love it
      Remember though sporting is different than sporter
      If you only wanna shoot clay then get sporter
      If you wanna do hunting and clay then sporter
