    Great tips. I'm taking my VW T4 for a week on my own in Val Thorens this coming March - with my family coming a week later and we all move into a chalet for week 2. My only real worry is my engine battery not coping with the cold - so I'll be bringing along a jump starter as well.
    There is no hook-up at the Aire in Val Thorens so I'll be relying on solar to keep my leisure battery topped up so that my diesel heater will fire up in the evening reliably. I'm planning to use my fridge as a coolbox for the week rather than use it on power (a lunch box crammed with compacted snow makes a good coolpack) but if it's a very sunny week then the solar will keep it running no problem - will have to wait and see.
    I'll eat out every night anyway - I'm on my own that week so eating out is not too expensive. Crepes, pizza and beer will keep me fuelled for a week of snowboarding and skiing!
    Great tip to fill up your diesel when close to your destination in the Alps as the diesel sold there will always have an anti-freeze additive. Diesel sold further north and in the UK will likely not.

      Thanks, good to hear you found the tip about the diesel useful👍🏻 you should get some sunny days in March. The cold killed our engine battery on its first ski trip , it was 5 years old so not in the best of condition. Enjoy Val Thorens, we've skied there before but not from our MH. cheers...Andy&Michelle

    We're using a challenger van that runs on diesel heating, a fully winterised insulation spec and works a treat. No danger of running out of gas. Consider snow socks as an alternative to chains, very easy to get on and off and easy to store. As our van is small I put the skis on the bike rack and lock 🔐 via the bindings. Happy skiing!

      @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Sounds like you are very well set up 👍 we just love being in the snowy elements with our Motorhome. We considered the snow socks, might get a pair of those a well, as you say easier to put on. Happy Skiing to you too😀 ⛷ cheers...Andy&Michelle

    Excellent winter vanlife tips guys 🥶
    Michelle did mention something pertinent during the fitting of the snow change section..
    At the time you will most likely be fitting snow chains, it will be dumping with the white stuff ❄️and freezing cold, so a pair of gloves similar to the guy demonstrating is always handy and practicing with the gloves on 🧤👍🏼
    Another tip we use is to have an old pair of ski salopettes to put on over yr regular trousers as yr jeans will get soaked crawling around the wet ground and will be blooming uncomfortable once yr back in yr camper and driving 😉
    🚐💨⛄️❤️

      @@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures we should be there by Dec next year. We'll be around for 2-3 yrs so we're sure to catch up. I think Chatsworth around Christmas will be on the cards.

      @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Yes, I'm sure will catch up 😀 A bit of advice... If you want to stay on the Chatsworth Campsite in December you'll need to be booking it later this week when the dates come online, also the same for Castleton which is too a great place at Christmas. If you are not bothered about the site there's a great Pub Stopover (The Wheatsheaf) right outside the entrance to Chatsworth Park. If you are going to stay on sites it will be worth you joining the Caravan and Motorhome Club and the Camping and Caravan Club, you'll make the cost back in the discounted fees. Cheers

    Hiya, Question on the Goodrich Tyres. What pressure are you running at? We are told that you can run at a lower pressure and therefore assume the tyre pressure monitor system has to be reset accordingly. We also have a Carthago and love it. Keep on rolling.

    • @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
      @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures  2 года назад +2

      Hi Sue, we run at 55psi as recommended by Elite Wheels who fitted them, I know some run at 50psi but maybe we are a bit heavier and it seems to be good for us. We don't have a tyre pressure sensor on ours. Got to love the Carthago👍😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle

    Thanks guys, very informative. I expect you always planned to take your Carthago into the snow, why did you choose the Cathargo over the Hymer ML-T 4x4 which at least on paper may seem better suited for your adventures with its 4x4 capabilities?

    • @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
      @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures  Год назад

      Good to hear it was useful. Yes we chose the Carthago with winter holidays in mind. The Hymer 4x4 wasn't on our radar at the time we bought but even if buying now the Carthago suits our all round needs better with the space inside and the large garage. Do like the Hymer though! Cheers...Andy&Michelle

    Just come across this video, great tips thank you, we are hopefully heading down to Austria over Christmas to take my 11 year old son skiing - first time in the motorhome😬, I have a mixture of excitement and apprehension - we have an Adria Twin which is winterised but nevertheless still a bit nervous - I will be buying all that you suggest - I have fitted BF Goodrich All Terrains already 😀 - our gas bottles are in a cupboard inside the motorhome which is a bit of pain when refilling (we have SafeFill bottles) - out of interest did you need to use the chains or carried for legal and just in case purposes? Thanks

    • @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
      @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures  Год назад +1

      Hi Gary, the chains were just in case and we didn't need them. Europe is much better equipped to clear the roads so it should be fine unless you get caught in a snow storm. There is a knack to fitting them so worth practicing just in case. Since the video I learnt another tip, if it gets really cold and your gas won't vaporise then stick one of those £2 feet warmer pads onto the tank, I'm told its enough to get it to vaporise. Have a great time skiing from your Motorhome, we found it a lot more straightforward than we imagined😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle

    Hi Andy & Michelle, My wife and I have found your videos really informative and engaging. I am planning on buying a Carthago Motorhome for very similar purposes as you use yours, Ski trips and touring around Europe in all seasons etc. Having seen your review on the 145 with the Integrated Cab do you feel that the extra expense would be worth it for all season use?

    • @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
      @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures  9 месяцев назад

      Hi there, great to hear you are enjoying our channel 😀 all Carthago’s are perfect for all seasons. Are you comparing A class to the cab like ours? If so, yes it’s a better experience driving and all round view when parked up in the A class, one extra thing to consider is the A class insurance can be quite a bit higher for some due to the windscreen cost, cheers…Andy&Michelle

    Love your videos!!

      Hi, great to hear you are enjoying the videos 😀 There's a big list of everything featured and the links in the video description 😀 the snow chains were bought from here www.snowchains.com I'd recommend calling in person rather than ordering online as they are super helpful with advice and practice fitting. They are kind of on the route to the Tunnel anyway 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle oh ps.. most places in the ALPs insist you carry snow chains anyway so definitely worth investing x

    Lots of good information. Some of it is common sense but I understand that CS retired in some people long ago. I am not a chain man and your tires(tyres) look pretty angry which I would be confident in. I would worry about the damage to the wheel wells with the chains on. If the driving is that bad that I feel I need chains to get around I think I have not assessed what I am getting into. I plan ahead as I am sure you do as well. Keep it up...

    • @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
      @ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Allan, carrying snow chains is mandatory during winter in most counties in the ALPs. Yes agree, if there is a fresh snowfall on the roads and an option to leave it a day while the roads are cleared that would be safer.
