    Don't melt your plastic palettes in the oven! XD For metal only. Follow instructions on your polymer clay. This is not a polymer clay tutorial and I am not an expert. Hmm what else?
    I haven't tested the actual USE of this palette yet, as I don't have the paints yet. Since I am not the first to try this, it's looking optimistic!

      Ha! Sure, I'm mostly just using it like a solid paintbox. let's see if youtube lets me post this unglamorous pic of it after a wipe down 😅

    Another comment to go with the first one....when finishing a piece of polymer clay, I give it a coating of Polycrylic (Minwax is brand I use) It gives my pieces a nice clear finish and protects them from water, alcohol, and most household chemicals. Because my pieces are used in jewelry and non food based household items this protects them from the elements. Hope this is something you can use.

    Paint the inside with enamel spray paint and it will stop the staining issues and let the paint and water mix better.

      Just a thought, they do make polymer glazes and that may deter staining, but I'm clueless as to if they would react to paint or not.

And you were able to find a way !!! 😄 I’m definitely going to try to do this, it looks fun. Thanks for making and sharing a new video with us. It’s always nice to get a notification.

    I do use polymer clay and I know that acrylics isn’t compatible, acrylic is water base and polymer clay is oil, polymers , etc. If you are gonna use this a your palette, you need to varnish it with polyurethane or use resin, polymer is porous surface and the paint will stain your palette.
    Good luck!

    • @YellowMelle
      @YellowMelle  6 лет назад +1

      Acrylics? I'm not sure where acrylic fits in (they don't rewet so they don't go in palettes generally). Do you know if oils continue to leech out after polymer is baked? Staining isn't really an issue, but oil might be!

    • @carmensol34
      @carmensol34 6 лет назад

      YellowMelle sorry dear, I mentioned acrylics because I thought you were using acrylics, English isn’t my first language. If you are using oil paint on polymer it’s compatible, seal your tray with polyurethane and you won’t have a problem at all! After baking polymer clay if you baked it right it will be very durable and won’t leach anything. I hope that answers your question.

      raw polymer clay will destroy the finish on wood (as in don’t set it on a wood table), don’t know if baked clay will affect your paint. just to be safe i’d check it out before loading up the tray. other than that, a nice creative way to combine two art foorms

      @@YellowMelle i have seen people paint baked polymer clay with acrylic paints, and use resin to get that wet look. Maybe they meant paint it white, then put resin on in. Might mimic porcelain surface then, not sure about the chemistry. You can see this on channels like Ace of Clay.
      Have you tried it out yet? I thought you meant a mixing pallete, but looks more like a place for your paints.
      I know the polymer is baked at low temp, and HAVE seen someone dry out their tube paints in plastic pallets in a 100 degree oven without melting the plastic.

    Hey YellowMelle, Your creativity has found me and now I am subscribed.
    I am a polymer clay artist journeying into watercolor and had need of a ceramic palette.
    However the palettes I like ranged from $28.00 to $228.00 (I will spend that much on art supplies not ceramic bowls lol)
    Dear Sister Artist, I had no idea that I could do this with my polymer clay; and truly anyone who ragged on you are just STUPID, and need to poop somewhere else (roflmbo) ok. enough of my madness. I am happy I found you and now I really like the idea that the shape of the piece that inspired you is really sacred in nature. So $#!T on all of those so called experts. What do they know. BTW, I'm doing some sketches of palettes I'd like to have for travel also, I'm molding my Polymer Clay in this cute tin I found at the thrift store; and remember, When the student is ready (me) the Teacher will come(you). Thank you YM, Thank you Universe. Girl keep on creating; your gift is real!

    hey i just wanted to say i like how you did your video overall. i've seen a few and i do think pushing shapes into the clay might be easier, but i don't think it really matters as long as it gets done. -- How's the palette worked over time with the staining? -- LOVE the print idea - the custom cover for the tin! :) What exactly did you use? You said an acrylic gel medium? I heard of using mod podge... and have a project i need to do but havent actually started yet. i guess it's intimidating when you don't know WTH ur doing. i'm SO not a mixed media type of person. haha. tho i want to do some of those thing. just gotta learn i guess. -- so, whatever you used, is it holding up? -- THANKS! -- :D

    • @YellowMelle
      @YellowMelle  4 года назад +1

      Thank you! I'm still using it, although I don't need to take it too far from the desk. There's one spot on the top edge of the lid that has peeled up that I only just noticed lol, but that end gets kinda wet so that make sense. I think mod podge is pretty popular! I figured that acrylic gel medium would just be tougher in general. But yeah, the polymer clay stains like a bitch! LOL

      YellowMelle so apparently u can varnish/seal it.... with various things depending on the brand of clay used. Then it’s more like a ceramic finish would be. I think that would fix the staining problem. Imma try it out. Thanks for the info on the picture thingy! 👌
