It's a credit to Nicholas Hoult that he can portray a character so simultaneously likeable and hateable in such a convincing way. This is what happened to a lot of male monarchs - they received little real love from their parents but lots of fake love from court sycophants, so they grew up entitled, insecure, emotionally stunted, unable to love but desperate for love, and completely lacking in empathy all at the same time.

I watched the show, and I don’t personally think that it was painted like that in the show. It’s mostly fans who make edits about them, and outside sources thinking their relationship is okay.

My grandma was in a marriage like this when she tried to runaway her father found her and brought her back to her husband and when she ended up in the hospital fighting for her life after my grandpa beat her up her father just told her that “ that she had to live with it”.
After that she decided to fight for herself and even hit him with a cast-iron at one point. There marriage was a lot like this because when he wasn’t drinking he was sweet and loving the problem was that he was drunk most of the time. When he died from alcohol poisoning at 42 she was arrested for murder... by a miracle the doctors proved that it was from alcohol...
I love how this video shapes them as enemies who absolutely despise each other and are trying to kill each other yet they still manage to be witty, snarky, and romantic with each other

I don't think I ever hated him though, he's that type of dumb/doofus character that is so unaware it's kind of endearing. Ofc it might also just be that I have a huge crush on Nicholas Hoult and I could never not love him.

They both killed a bunch of people, that doesn't mean I don't still love them and truly enjoy seeing them every time they show up on screen, sure that might make me insane, but a lot of movie villains/antagonists are still very likeable these days, and I'm not alone in finding them interesting/entertaining

I mean it has actors using British accents to portray Russia and it says in the title *An occasionally true story. It isn't mean to be accurate, it is meant to be a satire on the portrayal of Russia in the time of Catherine the Great.

This relationship is so genius because they both changed as characters so naturally during the season. Peter is slowly changing for the better to be calmer, more even-tempered, and kind, inspired by her, while she meets him in the middle and has become more ruthless, violent and commanding because of the crown. They’re so compelling because they’re changing characters who have grown into one another and their love just makes sense at this point in such a bizarre, interesting way.

This series has brought up so many emotions in me. On one hand I am totally on Catherines side but on the other hand I felt really sorry for Peter when he found out about her plan. And on the one side this couple is so toxic but on the other one they are so made for each other in a very strange way...
It's a testament to how well written and performed it is that we're empathizing with Peter, even though his actions throughout the whole season are horrible. He's basically a spoiled child and absolutely a terrible ruler, but it's not all his fault (he is a product of his parents and his position) and I don't want him to die

I'm honestly so impressed by Elle and Nicholas. Such a phenomenal job portraying these two. Also what great edit, it perfectly grabs the essence of their relationship. And the music and the timing is just *chef's kiss*. Thank you for this, I've probably rewatched it a hundred times.

Despite loving this type of period romances, I was quite reluctant to watch this show since I wasn't sure how much different it would be from other ones like 'The Crown'. But this seems to have so much more humor and actually looks much better than I thought. Great video by the way! It made me already love this couple without watching a single episode yet. But I think I'll start watching it today. :)
It's nothing like the crown lol. The crown is fairly historically accurate drama. This is deep satire with vague allusions to history.
I do think you should watch this show. Why their relationship is sometimes fun and energetic to watch play out, they’re both in a very toxic cycle. There’s a lot these edits take out, like truly foul dark moments.
Please don’t ship them, I guess is what I’m saying.

We know how it ended in real life, but this show is so wildly historically inaccurate that you never know what they’re going to do with it.
Everything else aside, the acting and writing in this show are top-class. Nicholas Hoult and Elle Fanning, especially, didn't miss a single beat. Same goes for the rest of the cast.
This satire show is honestly my favorite show. I want them to make season 2!!!

Nicholas Hoult is foooking amazing!!! He has comedic timing. A good drama actor and a comedian too.
I feel so bad for people stuck in relationships like this, people suffer deep pains in these situation. I know it is fake and a half comedy but we should all take a moment to reflect of how we treat others in our lives and how we are treated ourselves.

This show was great. I love Peter and how stupid he was, I love Catherine and how smart she was. They were great together. I hated the writers for ending the season when they did, but life can’t always be awesome.
