Interesting though that he was content to be cautious behind the Williams, until the Tyrrell got past the Williams following him - then as soon as the Tyrrell had a nose down the inside at Druids, he carried WAY more speed next through Hawthorns and through Paddock Hill, leading up to the eventual overtake, than on previous laps - there was a notable urgency that lap after being caught by the 012; fascinating to see.

The principal problem with these cars was the fire in the seventies and Reutemann always tell about this. When we go to the past in the races we can find the cars were very dangerous to run and I remember Jack Stewart (that was a great champ driver in F1) and the cars he drove were more dangerous than the cars we can see in this video or in Fangio s times with cars that were very but very dangerous to drive. Anyway, to drive a race car is very difficult now and before no doubt jaja. Best Regards to you from Argentina!
Great Great Drive and great pass in the end. You were so so great in the corners. This is one of my favorite courses on the tour. I loved this and I was with you the whole way man. Rock On Steve Hartley.
With new sponsors the cars wouldn't really be historic anymore: plus these cars simply aren't safe to race at the absolute limit (they never were, but nowadays there's higher standards). Racing like this where everyone is aware of the value of the cars and drivers will back out if they're being overtaken is good enough. The point is to bring back great memories to people and let them feel the sounds and vibration from the past.
@@DVS_FOREVER-CH What would be the point in the big teams taking part? We already know which cars are quickest and you can't develop them anymore or that defeats the point. And if you get sponsors involved then that ruins the image of these iconic cars. Historic racing series like this are the best we're going to get.
No half measures in this! Steve Hartley and the guy ahead in the Williams having a great duel. Interesting to see which corners he was gaining and losing. Fantastic cars, sound and driving!
These where the proper race cars. Balls to the wall racing. Fighting the car and giving it the beans when needed. Anyone who could drive these have massive respect
The camera shake and distorted sound give a very visceral sense of the physical strain and mental stress that drivers have to contend with. This is the most realistic experience I've yet seen. I wonder if digital simulators (i.e. racing software) will (or has already) incorporated/simulated such perceptual effects in order to heighten the realism of the experience, and the authenticity of the contest.
Before F1 would try and con the world and each other that it was going green and clean we could watch men who would revel in their manliness and race beautiful looking, sounding and smelling beasts like these.
Before, when one car was too dominant for a long time, they'd introduce rules to make them slower, enabling opponents to compete on the same level. Today when ONE team is abnormally dominant, they change the rules to additionally slow down their competitors.
Excellent job of sticking to him and learning his weak spots, where you could get deeper into the corner and brake later. After that you could clearly see it was just a matter of time before he leaned on his tires to hard and they started to give up or he made a mistake and you pounced. Great Job. !

Driven like Prost...hunting down the quarry with patience...brings back memories of 1980/81. Great vid. 👍🏻
Prost never drove this Mclaren, if that is what you meant. :)
@@skyshifter5796 No, that isn't what I meant.
Nice to see these car racing again, can't believe it's been 40 years since they were used on Formula One circuit. I like the old cars better anyway, I have no interest in the current F1 cars.
Glued to the screen the whole way through, wow what an experience
Absolutelly deserves my like! Fantastic, incredible sound and camera positioning. Much better than current F1 onboard laps.
This new gameplay trailer for F1 2021 'Legends Mode' looks great.
8/10 Great sound design, but graphics could be improved. No motion blur or HDR, and camera shake is too extreme.
It's on vr motion control
This is a vacuum cleaner for your mind. For 15 minutes your mind will be clear of any and all thoughts - useful if you were to be angry, upset, in despair or grieving - as in a little mental break from all of those emotions. I'm so bookmarking this for when any of those emotions shows up and I need a surefire break to catch my breath... Such great driving and video! Total awesomeness!
I know these cars aren’t very safe but they are incredible. Far more interesting than today’s F1 cars. I wish F1 would run a classic series. This is great to see.
We would see a dead man every season.
I imagine they tune down the old F1 cars so they last longer and race safer
It wasn’t supposed to be safe and it still shouldn’t be! Anyway, these guys are just cruising around. If they get above 9 grand I’d be surprised. Still nice to see the Williams/ McLaren battle!
@@TheKitchenTechnician they should not be?! You want someone die in a horrible accident???
@@gustavrsh The drivers are careful with these cars. Before Senna died drivers were considered expendable. The drivers feet were basically n the front bulkhead. I think it was Mario that said that at the first race drivers meeting you looked to your left and to your right and by the end of the season one of you would be dead.
A steering wheel a gear stick and a speedo, that’s as technical these cars needed to be to be just brilliant to watch and hear, not steering wheel with more buttons to push than the space shuttle
Watched this on my VR headset, and I must say, wow.
Now THIS is what we call an onboard camera!. Great video, thanks for the sound.
Absolutely brilliant. We need more of this. Motor racing is the best sport to follow.
That was so intense. I mean i was actually relieved when 5he clip ended, i couldn't take much more. I am actually shaking like a leaf. The car the driving was so good. You could literally see his confidence grow lap after lap......😂
Ahh yes, Brands Hatch. The good old nostalgia
Brands is amazing. Great races in old f1.
Who has red Steve Harvey instead of Steve Hartley has my comprehension.
Jokes a part, great video. I really love dirvers pov, you can understand what is the feeling in the cockpit
He races old cars between takes of Family Feud and Miss Universe. LOL.
I initially thought Steve Harvey too.
The leader really dropped the hammer on you guys . . 🏁
Clean air
Its_only_ Karma not really, these drivers here, atleast from what i can see, arent that experienced or they simply dont want or cant push. You can even see that on the warm up lap, they way he tries to warm up the tyres...
Although it gets much better and faster the later laps i have to say that
That Tyrrell is a couple of years newer than the McLaren, Lotus or Williams FW08.
Exactly. That's what happens when there's 1 a class driver and a field of b and c class drivers.
that´s what I call onboard ... a lot more spectacular than the TV cameras .... great sound & front row view
6:59 holy mother, that guy in front almost lost it, that uphill corner is so technical
I love that they get these beasts out on the track still! 🏁
Senna he conducido el MP4/4
@@agoradacerto MP4/4 | MP4/5 | MP4/6 | MP4/7 e MP4/8 senna pilotou todos esses
The old game Grand Prix Legends is so close to this! The head shaking is the main differenc.
And staying on the track. 😂
@@nathantw yes, GPL is hard to master. It demands so much focus!
Great cars and watching this makes me wish that how brilliant it would be if F1 was run at brands hatch once again, a great circuit
Einfach nur der Hammer dieser Sound!
This puts a smile on my face. As close as ill ever get (well besides the sim). Looks like an absolute blast and hard to drive haha. thank you for this, I throughly enjoyed this
My favourite F1 car of all time. Mclaren MP4 1 & 2 . Watson & Lauda nostalgia!
Mp4/4 was the prettiest one !!!
3:30 this is where the fun begins
No, every second of this is fun, you n00b.
You mean at 00:00.
thanks, I'm not one for the tire warming.
I love the professionalism at the beginning. They all shook his hand. They know what he does is insane, And the video shows it.
The amount of mechanical grip those things had was just insane
This is a 1982 car. I manually timed laps and it seemed he was lapping around low 1.20s. Pole position by Keke Rosberg here in 1982 was 1.09xx. So more than 10 seconds faster than this guy is going in the video. If this seems fast imagine how much faster it looked when Keke went around the track. The guys in the 80s were absolute madmen... Its a shame onboard cameras were fully reinstated just in the late 80s... They missed arguably the craziest decade of F1. What I would do to have on onboard of one of the pole laps in 80s...
Remember Keke would have had skirts. They're not allowed the run them in the masters championship which would reduce the downforce considerably.
@@Andyc351 im just saying the speed difference is mad compared to what this guy is doing in the video
this has to be one of the best videos ever
I think back to the very begginings of auto racing , IF they could only see this now! The evolution of motor sports in such a short time has evolved insanely! Makes me wonder where it’ll be in another century!??
I'm, an HGV Driver, believe I've seen some terrible accidents, however, I could not do that!!
Muchs, Grathias, lossiento for my Espanyol, rgds Colin Glasgow , Scotland.
@@colinrunciman5166 Hello. You welcome and no problem about your spanish. I read you are an HGV Driver and you can understand about the feelings on board in a race car. You know, when I see this great video I remember Lauda, Reutemann, Pironi, Peterson, James Hunt, Villenueve that drove in the times of this video and these cars were very difficult to drive and these drivers were able to do it in great way.
Seeing the cars following in the side mirrors is so awesome. This is an amazing video.
es como si lo estuviese conduciendo uno mismo. una obra de arte poder disfrutar estos videos!!
Those old cars sound just like raw power
Driving one handed around the corners, while changing gears ! Takes balls to do that flat out 😨
And a level of skill only a few had or have.
Great Great Drive and great pass in the end. You were so so great in the corners. This is one of my favorite courses on the tour. I loved this and I was with you the whole way man. Rock On Steve Hartley.
It must cost a fortune to keep these cars running.
Wow, so awesome to see Steve Harvey driving a F1 car!! Talk show host, Judge, Race car driver, he can do it all!
this is awesome
From a TV Host to driving an F1 car, man is Steve Harvey truly talented.
Those were the days when the sounds of those engines sent huge thrills down my spine. Now? Formula 1 bores me.
Watched it again! Started to see the side pod at 12 minutes....fantastic.........
I hope one time there be special formula cup , where there will be such cool cars
What do you think this is?
@@mrsid6581 i mean , that it will be official with big teams , sponsors and of course TV translation, so think before you say anything
@@DVS_FOREVER-CH Sure, but once you involve money and sponsors, then it'll just be like normal F1. So better to leave it like it is now...
Fantastic cars, sound and driving!
this is like my ride to work every morning, but FASTER!
How many laps away is your work?
These where the proper race cars. Balls to the wall racing. Fighting the car and giving it the beans when needed. Anyone who could drive these have massive respect
These 15 min were more entertaining than the last 10 years of Formula 1!
What an absolute joy to see and hear these classic f1 cars looked after and raced. In twenties years time it’ll be the late naughtees
The camera placement is literally driver pov, thank you for uploading this
that ford cosworth V8 sounds so good.
O casamento perfeito entre a McLaren e o maior piloto de todos o Senna
En Mc Laren. Senna corria solo contra un Veterano Prost !
You mean like Desire Wilson and Judy Lyons?
@@cinegraphics Can't have anybody upset the applecart.
Excellent job of sticking to him and learning his weak spots, where you could get deeper into the corner and brake later. After that you could clearly see it was just a matter of time before he leaned on his tires to hard and they started to give up or he made a mistake and you pounced. Great Job. !
