Loved riding out at Rampart when I lived in Denver, moved up to Cheyenne so I still could go! Thinking of adding the 500 RS to the garage, was the 300XC out at Rampart for a few years before relocating, miss riding out there.
I don't/can't ride hard enough to really test my suspension, so I haven't felt limited with the stock springs. If I were jumping etc I bet I'd want to do something, but for trails I think it's fine. And I couldn't tell any difference in the suspensions between the 390 and 500. I think they're exactly the same specs.
Love my XTrainer. Went for a 36 mile desert single track ride this morning. It’s perfect for a short guy like me. Very confidence inspiring. The suspension is soft and it’s really set up for a 170lb rider. Most people respiring the fork and shock. The smaller frame makes it a bit twitchy at higher speeds, but I haven’t found it to be too bad. In think if you’re over 6’0 the XTrainer is going to feel a little cramped. Did you get a chance to ride it on this ride? -Dave Williams
I didn't ride it on this ride, even though it was offered, but I was exhausted from working all night the night before and getting no sleep. Being over 6 feet and 200 pounds I think it's a little cramped for me, I would need some risers for sure. But I admit it tempts me, the 300RR is the one I think fits me the best but it sure costs a lot more.

It's fun! I would love a 300 two stroke smoker for the singletrack, but the 500 works pretty well too!
You really are doing quite good at your ride pace and going over stuff. Next time you can do it on the Xtrainer!
I feel like I'm getting better all the time. 😬👍
I’m also in the 200+ lb category. Did you feel the need to or have you done any suspension work to the 500, and how does the 500 compare to the 390 ?

Buddy. Does your 500 not like going slow? Meaning in the low rpm range with small throttle input does it cough and surge?
No, mine has never coughed or surged. I can stall it, but that's it. Otherwise it runs fine. Is yours acting weird at low rpm?
