I believe Giant ownership confused DJ's education and passive demeanor with an ability to remain calm under pressure. Unfortunately, every NFL defense now knows that if you pressure Jones early, he is done for the rest of the game, and prone to make crazy rookie mistakes, mis-reads of coverage, and will invariable throw interceptions, and he also forgets to protect the ball when hit.

Depends on the QB. Teams like Indy had Peyton and Luck call the protections. QBs can see way more than the center and a competent QB is able to read defenses from what they see. Teams like Jacksonville had center Brad Meester call the protections because they had garbage QBs like Bortles who can barely read a grocery list. And even a 13 year veteran like Meester had trouble protecting when he had such an awful QB.

that's the going rate for bottom of the barrel qb's. look at how much money derek carr made. $40 million was the minimum and it goes up every year because the salary cap increases every year. back in 2019 for example, the going rate was $30 million a year. they bet on him improving and it didn't work out, but the point is that you sign a guy if you believe in him, because the price only goes up each year. the franchise tag would've costed them more and this contract is essentially a 2 year deal.

another stupid take. you can't separate jones performance from the oline the worst in the nfl. the constant pass rush has gotten into jones head so he thinks more about that than the play at hand. jones has shown he can win games but not with this line. so you can look for a retread or draft a qb but if you think a rookie can overcome this line you're nuts. you will see interception after interception. so jones will start til the end of next season. if the giants are still bad then it's start all over again. the only solution is keep drafting olinemen until you get it right.

It’s funny me and my friend who is the Giants fan we were just talking about Daniel Jones on my podcast, and he mainly believe it is the offensive line but as I think about it, that is only part of the problem. And I agree with you on that. There were a lot of adjustments they could’ve made but in seeing this now I’m surprised that he is still struggling with the same things that he had struggled with in the past. And as I watched the Monday night game last night, Jones just looked so like a lost puppy who can’t find their way home. and it is sadly becoming more evident that they should not have given him that contract when he signed that contract I did not think he deserved it. I simply think defenses have figured Daniel out. The fact he stares down his receivers, his telegraphs...the way he moves and misses edge blitzes: defenses have obviously studied his tape. Devon Witherspoon is going to be a beast in this league. He was drafted 5th and had flashes last night. But when Witherspoon...a ROOKIE mind you says on NATIONAL TELIVISION he knew DJ was going to throw when he did because he figured out DJs passing patterns...that HAS to be addressed immediately. Same with San Fran...why aren't coaches reacting to DJs predictability? If defenses have figured DJ out, Kafka, Daboll and the offense have to find a way to mix it up. Similar to when defenses started to stack the box against Saquon. DJ CAN NOT rely solely on the RPO. It is an absolute waste of guys like Waller and Hyatt. I know the OLine is BAD right now without Thomas and JMS, but DJ and the O HAVE to figure it out or it will be a LONG 2023 and 2024.

that's the going rate for bottom of the barrel qb's. look at how much money derek carr made. $40 million was the minimum and it goes up every year because the salary cap increases every year. back in 2019 for example, the going rate was $30 million a year. they bet on him improving and it didn't work out, but the point is that you sign a guy if you believe in him, because the price only goes up each year. the franchise tag would've costed them more and this contract is essentially a 2 year deal.

There's a number of clues subtle and not that tell me there is exactly ONE person in the Giants organization who foolishly believes in Daniel Jones. Unfortunately for our fan base that one man is John Mara, the owner of the team, and so his vote is the only one that ultimately counts.
another stupid take. you can't separate jones performance from the oline the worst in the nfl. the constant pass rush has gotten into jones head so he thinks more about that than the play at hand. jones has shown he can win games but not with this line. so you can look for a retread or draft a qb but if you think a rookie can overcome this line you're nuts. you will see interception after interception. so jones will start til the end of next season. if the giants are still bad then it's start all over again. the only solution is keep drafting olinemen until you get it right.

if they franchised him they wouldn't have been able to sign anyone in free agency or even resign saquon. the extension gave them more flexibility. obviously it didn't work out but at the time it made more sense to do that.

It’s funny me and my friend who is the Giants fan we were just talking about Daniel Jones on my podcast, and he mainly believe it is the offensive line but as I think about it, that is only part of the problem. And I agree with you on that. There were a lot of adjustments they could’ve made but in seeing this now I’m surprised that he is still struggling with the same things that he had struggled with in the past. And as I watched the Monday night game last night, Jones just looked so like a lost puppy who can’t find their way home. and it is sadly becoming more evident that they should not have given him that contract when he signed that contract I did not think he deserved it. I thought they should’ve gave that money to Saquon Barkley.

I believe last year they had the lowest point differential among playoff teams which means they won a lot of close games that could have gone either way. We're seeing a reversion to the mean this year.

Lauren, great recap...and this game I think was the straw for a lot of Giants fans regarding Jones. I do disagree with the analysis that Daniel Jones "regressed". I simply think defenses have figured Daniel out. The fact he stares down his receivers, his telegraphs...the way he moves and misses edge blitzes: defenses have obviously studied his tape. Devon Witherspoon is going to be a beast in this league. He was drafted 5th and had flashes last night. But when Witherspoon...a ROOKIE mind you says on NATIONAL TELIVISION he knew DJ was going to throw when he did because he figured out DJs passing patterns...that HAS to be addressed immediately. Same with San Fran...why aren't coaches reacting to DJs predictability? If defenses have figured DJ out, Kafka, Daboll and the offense have to find a way to mix it up. Similar to when defenses started to stack the box against Saquon. DJ CAN NOT rely solely on the RPO. It is an absolute waste of guys like Waller and Hyatt. I know the OLine is BAD right now without Thomas and JMS, but DJ and the O HAVE to figure it out or it will be a LONG 2023 and 2024.
One more thing: I know Duke QB Riley Leonard has an ankle injury right now, but if you get a chance: take a look at some of his game tape. Similarities to Jones...curious if some of DJs bad habits came from the Duke system.
