I can agree with syn being the best in a fleet, however for my personal destroyer I chose Osaka. It has less DPS but it's nimble, has decent placement of L turrets plus good M turrets and way better shields than rattlesnake. I still have my personal rattlesnake from before the Cradle of Humanity. When you get it fully modified it kinda behaves like a sluggish corvette, which is nice. Also I use split engines on my personal ships, travel speed is not abysmal and I way prefer the forward trust
The Syn is my favorite destroyer, in no small part, because is the "offspring" of my favorite destroyer in X3TC, the ATF Tyr 😁 Plus, is a beast even with only terran tech (personaly, I'm a race tech purist, terran tech for terran ships and so on). For those that don't mind mixing tech, with L plasma turrets, is the poor man's Asgard, one can even mix 50% L beam + 50 % L plasma, to have a great anti capital anti fighter mix. The Rattlesnake, is my second favorite. The problem I have with it is that, if one don't keep twisting and turning, 10 xenon M can kill you, its shield (as in just one shield) is that bad. That being said, I've seen players clearing xenon sectors with it, but hit and run atacks are not my cup of tea 😋, I need my shields to get in the "face" of the enemy capital ships and pew pew them with my biggest guns 😁
I totally agree. I'm currently running mien with Flaks on the M hardpoints and terran Bolt Turrets on the L hardpoints. Not optimal for either Fighter or Capital engagements, but surprisingly effective against even swarms of P's. With the Mk3 Shields, half a dozen P's can't even break the reload rate, let alone work down the shields
I agree and there is one point that Captain didn't take about, it's production. Terran ships are easy to produce because they needs less different wares to build. So I use the Syn as my personal cruiser, then I use the Osaka for Destroyer use.

I like the Teladi Phoenixes for escorts. The pirates provide you with a bunch of them. Give them reasonable shielding, fill up the turrets, and assign one to each big mining ship. Then forget about them. Or you can crank up the shields, give them great turrets, and have a few escort your big-gun ships to clear off all the little stuff.
I'm not a huge fan of Teladi ships overall, though I think your idea has some merit. Only thing I really use them for is single-sector mining for the higher where having a low speed isn't that big a deal and the higher cargo capacity really shines :).
It turns out that the Shuyaku and the Pelican (sentinel) are the best L freighters for time efficiency when hauling, taking out highways from the equation and all, which you should consider for L class ships. The pelican sentinel has 51,000 storage space, but almost half the mass of the Incar, whilst having 150k shielding as opposed to 100k shielding and 1 less M slot turret for defending itself than the Incar, which means that in terms of speed to storage space over distances of 1000km to 2000km in 4-6 jump gates, it often ranks very highly (3rd) using its native parts. The Shuyaku is high ranking because it has more speed, so it outclasses the Pelican in longer distance hauls, this was figured out using a calculator. I personally think the Pelican is just the perfect freight ship in most cases because it has the most shielding and it has an excellent storage to speed ratio, making the Teladi one of the best trader races (which is what they're supposed to be good at), so, the Teladi usually don't get many big wins, but the freighters are really good. It turns out over galaxy spanning distances that the Shark is one of the best, if not the best freighter, in the game.

I gotta go with the Syn. Its numerous Large Turrets help make a big difference especially when dealing with bigger targets, which I slap on Plasma. Despite having very few Medium Turrets, beams are good enough for the Fighter swarms, even if they kill them slowly but surely, or if you're feeling lucky, slap on Plasma there too. A lucky shot with the M Plasma would demolish S ships and punch holes in Ms. Flaks are good, but they are so troublesome IME, like all other projectile types, you'll need the S and M to roll their ship hard before they can really hit their target. With its strong shielding, its got great endurance, allowing for easier micro and macro. Three main guns for strong forward attacks, just 1 gun shy of the Rattlesnake. The one engine can be a major drawback if it's destroyed though. It's really slow and AA is weak if anything, but it's very much my go-to Destroyer. Terrans have really spoiled me. Though as someone said, mass enough of anything and individual stats doesn't really matter.
I usually play as a “Tech Purist” so no mixing of outside tech (TER ship can’t have ARG turrets). In this case the rattlesnake is very powerful as TER missing any anti capital/station weapons (except Asgard main), even fighter don’t have Torpedos… makes a TER only tech fleet a challenge - Dump-fire missile is are sort of suitable…
I use to like the Syn before I discovered the Rattlesnake. I have mine with basic, just very basic engine mods and I cruise at 399 m/s in combat. That's faster than many small ships, faster than almost all Xenon ships outside of their scouts. I literally fly circles around Xenon K and I. If I get out gunned by a swarm of small ships I just fly away while anything unfortunate enough is close enough to chase me, it gets greeted by a flurry of M flak cannons. It's the best ship for me.
For plasma turrets you dont need fast rotation. You need range first, and dps second. Because targets of plasma l or xl, they are dont move fast. I suppose split's turrets are better choice. Thanks for your understandable pronunciation. I am learning english with pleasure, thanks to you, mr captain.
One thing that is weird when it comes to ranking Destroyers is that they are so cheap that you can easily just mass produce them and en mass their individual statistics doesn't really matter. Just simply build 20 with alternating anti-capital and anti-fighter loadouts and the resulting death ball is practically untouchable aside from a Xenon I with 2-3 K escorts. Even with the Syn if you have half of the fleet with Large Beam turrets their weakness to fighters is negated. One of the downsides that came with the downgrading of the class from XL to L in X4. If battleships (old M2 destroyers) were more prolific and not just the occasional XEN I and Asgard, fielding destroyer death balls would be more risky and resource intensive.
Barbarossa is great. For some reason smaller freighter are more often attacked by pirates. Barbarossa is fast, have great defense, and is rarely attacked.
Really enjoy the Syn, best loadout for me is PAR L Plasma in 1,2, 5.7 slots for anti-capital and stations and TER Lasers in the other 4 L slots. ARG M Bolts for the M turrets. At last Lasers are great against S, M ships to support the limited M turrets and thanks to the large class 105w x2 and up to x4 with optimal positioning thanks to the Syn's decent maneuverability can make short work of them better than anything else. No running to recharge suckers... you're dead. Don't really need ARG L Laser superior rotation and the Terrans have more power. Great visuals and sounds with these too, the rat a tat tat gets old, will probably replace a couple M turrets with missiles when I can restock them effortlessly for maximum variety. Shame the AI doesn't use the main batteries against fighters however the player can melt M,S targets with these at range in a single burst, serious fun here!
Syn is not so difficult to get, one Shuyaku and he is captured, they also give out according to the story quest, which is a little longer than raising money for the first option... I also want to note the Odysseus of the new type E, an incredibly beautiful ship, there are enough M turrets, to defend against the fighters, the main battery is very strong, and 4 L turrets perfectly destroy K, in the hands of the player ...
@@D4RKxMARAUDER I used mass Pulsars with Shard Battery, they just wipe stuff very fast with 6 guns in one or 2 passes. Because they have garbage speed, they can actually stay on attack runs longer either head-on or from behind. Dragons/Raiders, are very good as well with Tau Accelerator if you need something with more durability and speed. They can take on stations en Mass (IS only). If you don't like Pulsar, I guess Chimera would work, but I didn't try them yet. Just before Stations explode, pull back the S and M so they don't die. Fast ones might escape, but you'll still lose some. Big ships are nice, but their AI is terrible attacking stations.
Update 2023: I think the Ray is my favorite player Destroyer for the fact that Boron Engines do not have a travel charge up time. Pros: Engine, NO TRAVEL CHARGE TIME!!. Shields are very strong (4x BOR L), incredible defense. Travel Speed is second, very fast. The Ray Ion Projector has interesting firing mechanics though, similar to other instant beam weapons with the added effect of heavy speed disruption on target. In my opinion, the Ray Ion Projector is the saving grace of the weapon compliment. The crew compliment is average, but coupled with the engines not having a charge time it does make an excellent Boarding operation platform. Cons: The overall firepower is underwhelming, for sure, borderline pathetic.
Honestly, after further testing and comparison with other Destroyer weapons, the Ray Ion Projector is an amazing weapon that has great range and heat efficiency against ships for the fact that you're not going to miss if you have the target in range and an unobstructed view. Large Ion Flak Turrets & Large Ion Net are also pretty decent. Ion Net has extreme range & projectile speed which is really nice for accuracy.
Devs have put three nice platforms for turrets on Teuta, but noone ever placed them there. So i filled that emptiness with Erlking turrets and placed three main batteries for the pilot. Now I can make wrecks and swoop them for profits at the same time )) Also did same thing to the Monitor (also made it a bit faster) as it's my favorite ship design in the game!
i'm at the stage in my game where i need to start beating back the xenon and this is super helpful. i've heard it can be risky to let even a 5 star pilot control a rattlesnake as they tend to blow themselves up. should I just go ahead and try it out anyway? I was also thinking about the odyseus + docked jian, but that might be too pricy
5-Star-Pilots can't be trusted more than bloody beginners :D you always need an eye on ships in bigger battles :) and yes, body and jian is a little overkill, then rather just take a bunch of Behemoths.
Odysseus is a great ship, but the AI sucks at flying it for the same reason they scuttle the snake. The ai will charge headfirst at an enemy and shoot until they die. Odysseus and Snake are better at shooting past the enemy and then turning around to fire, taking advantage of speed and agility. If your going to use ai pilots, syn or behemoth swarms are your bread and butter.
An odysseus with terran shields going running in 30 to 40m but worth its aa. I ran a asgard the other day a zenon death swarm drones nocked every gun out on it only thing still shoting was my Jian I had docked and main batteries I killed the warf but I dint feel like waiting on repairs to reloaded save and killed station as comfy 10km any close station sends its fighter out
Don't forget they have slower rotation. Argon is better IIRC. When rotating opposite the direction of the turrets, this can pose a problem with tracking ships, and also at closer ranges. This is also problematic with fast ships using slow turrets, example is like the Katana w/ Terran turrets. When dog-fighting or even just rolling, the turrets can't keep up.
@@Matrix2Strata017 ARG turret rotation is the fastest, but that's not so relevant for Plasma as you're not going to hit M or S ships with it. Haven't felt like rotation speed was an issue for this type of turret. Definitely important for all the others however 😉
@@mattronin2647 They can hit slow S/M when they roll, but that's about it. I would say if S/M swarms are a problem, a S/M escort should be in the fleet anyways. Turret AI isn't too effective, even with mods that boost turrets like VRO or vturretboost, save for beams. Though I have been using a Raptor with its 101 turrets as a flyswatter, but that's a different story and I'm going off track. I would say if you're station busting, get the long range, anything else, get the short range. Sometimes you can micro the ships so the long range can shoot together with the main guns on the L/XL
u compare raw stats and forgot something. x4 has top1 stupid ai ever exists. Compare how much time spend ai to rotate on 180 degrees and docking/undocking time. this stuffs is near 50% of all route time. Or racing for ai. Comparing raw stats is a trash, u havenot (cargo/time) parameter.
@@CaptainCollins my point and observations that ai on different ships works different (Probably only in 40km view range). Maybe its just regular bugs. I suggest a simple fair test. Two routes - 2 and 4 sectors length. Which freighter could deliver more (cargo points) for 1 hour. I prefered syuyaku but did notice that gelios with that awful ai so much better

it does however excel at splitting the enemy up. like you do a fly by, shoot one ship, then run away, wait for the fastest enemy ships to split off from the pack,, then you can turn engage him and repeat until there is nothing left. basically it makes it shit at turning, but excellent at picking your battles
Thank you for your analysis of the ships! Keep up the good work!
Thank you !
Hey Captain. Thanks for another video. However, the players get a free Syn if they do the TER campaign.
I would appreciate if you'd always say the faction where you can get the ships.
Oh right. A lot of new players are joining X4 and it could be confusing. Doing these videos for too long and didn't thought about it. Thanks!
@@CaptainCollins Appreciate the effort and the answe
What ship and loadout do you prefer dealing with xenon drone swarms when attacking stations?
Erlking :) no, but for real, a Rattlesnake with flaks is amazing
Thank you for your thoughts!
I fly in a beam/flak Rattlesnake and kill it myself. Another option is to build up a fleet of 200 ares fighters and send them in to devastate all.
@@KeithZim i never had luck with fighters in mass against a drone swarm. Lose too many numbers to make it worth my while
@@D4RKxMARAUDER I used mass Pulsars with Shard Battery, they just wipe stuff very fast with 6 guns in one or 2 passes.
6:05 what faction did you get this captain from? I’ve never seen that model before.
Спасибо за контент. Мы тебя тоже смотрим!!!
ага, появился перевод наконец-то )))

Now I can make wrecks and swoop them for profits at the same time ))
Also did same thing to the Monitor (also made it a bit faster) as it's my favorite ship design in the game!
Hi great video helped alot. Just a question what is the ship right at the end of video
That is an exclusive DLC (Tides of Avarice) ship called "Astrid" 👍
@@CaptainCollins thanks buddy keep up the good work
In this video, the captain unveils to is his impressive Snake.
Why does your game look better than mine when I have literally everything turned to max? Lol. Great video.
Haha, try SSAA 4x anti-aliasing. It's awesome and doesn't hit your hardware as much as MSAA ;)
My 1080 can run it at 30fps 😜
@@CaptainCollins I'll give it a go! I'm on a 3060ti and your gfx still look better. Haha
i'm at the stage in my game where i need to start beating back the xenon and this is super helpful.
i've heard it can be risky to let even a 5 star pilot control a rattlesnake as they tend to blow themselves up. should I just go ahead and try it out anyway?
I ran a asgard the other day a zenon death swarm drones nocked every gun out on it only thing still shoting was my Jian I had docked and main batteries I killed the warf but I dint feel like waiting on repairs to reloaded save and killed station as comfy 10km any close station sends its fighter out
Please add English subtitles. Sometimes I have trouble understanding. :/
This will be useful when I start my next run! This gave me some ideas! :D
Maybe the XL video will give you even more 😉
@@CaptainCollins i have zero doubts!
You're saying Frighters and it's confusing until looking at the tooltip in the video player
Don't both Paranid and Split L Plasma turrets have higher dps than argon?
Split have low range and Paranid very slow fire rate with slightly longer range than argon. Overall, Argon plasmas are the best.
What is the name of ship at 9:50?
That ship is called "Astrid" and is locked behind a questline of the latest DLC "Tides of Avarice". It's another unique ship. M-class
@@CaptainCollins thanks Capitan, i'll look for him.cause its seem awesome
I see that 5.10 is out, haven't played in a while. What fps do you get into lategame? Is this game still an unoptimized mess?
You can obtain Syn for free for completing Terrans story missions.
The joke of the Ratty is that it has M-class shields pretty much.

u compare raw stats and forgot something. x4 has top1 stupid ai ever exists. Compare how much time spend ai to rotate on 180 degrees and docking/undocking time. this stuffs is near 50% of all route time. Or racing for ai. Comparing raw stats is a trash, u havenot (cargo/time) parameter.
Docking times are irrelevant when you're 40km away or out of system.
So what's your point?
@@CaptainCollins my point and observations that ai on different ships works different (Probably only in 40km view range). Maybe its just regular bugs. I suggest a simple fair test. Two routes - 2 and 4 sectors length. Which freighter could deliver more (cargo points) for 1 hour. I prefered syuyaku but did notice that gelios with that awful ai so much better
i stopped playing. Game is unplayable even for high end systems. i hope the devs focus on optimization.
Same here. X4 endgame is low fps death. Doesn't matter how good your PC is. Never going to be fixed. Every expansion makes the problem worse.
Have a 4700 hour game with extreme fleet fighting and no issues.
What weapons are you using on the Rattlesnake? You mention turrets on the destroyers but not the weapons.
how about mark4 engine?
I wish the buffalo had two shields 😢
