If you need to look for a Fried Shrimp Recipe, or you want to know how to make Beef Wellington, King Crab or you want to know how to cook Clams; maybe you want to know how to cook asparagus in a pan or maybe you need a Swai fish recipe; well, this is the channel for you!
I have made this about half a dozen times and I (obviously) love it! It is simple and delicious. The vinaigrette elevates it to an amazing dish. The only modification I do is that I omit the paprika as it provides little to no taste.
Awesome! I like to use Hot Smoked paprika which brings heat and flavor. 😉 🍻
I need this man to read to me before bed
LOL
Lmao
Fact.. sounds like a children’s narrative author from when i was growing up
Andrew Delgado I agree 😂..
Lmao reminds me of the awesome stories in kindergarten 🥺
This is seriously one of my fave quick dishes. Thank you!
Do you make the vinaigrette too?
Loved your recipe. Stour voice is so soothing.
Thank you so much 😊
YUMmmm!!! add Sushi rice. Garnished with shredded cucumbers-carrots-coleslaw, green onions, cilantro, and toasted crushed peanuts & VOILA! A fresh comfort and kick to it😋
Wow! I don't think I'd mess with you...
sounds like you know exactly how you like it!
Monica Meilee I have all these ingredients, thanks!
No
Thanks, tried this with Yellow fin, used less pepper and *lots* of wasbi. Seared 20 seconds each side. To die for :) Great with Jasmine rice.
NICE,
Make it your own and do it the way you like it.
Thanks for chiming in and supporting my channel.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this. I made it so many times, and it was just amazing. Thank you so much
You're welcome. Did you make the wasabi vinaigrette too?
This looks so delicious!! I cannot wait to try it! Thanks for sharing!
Just be sure to use Kosher salt NOT table salt or sea salt which is 3 times more potent. ☺
Thank you!@@PMGK
Holy shit I just made this and I’m in love it was so good
Making this for dinner. Looks great!
Be sure to use Kosher salt, NOT table.
@@PMGK I'm doing this. Cooking in a few minutes. Thanks.
That looks lovely.
Glad you like it!
Looks delious!
Kim Mozingo Thanks Kim. I love that Spicy Tuna!
Perfectly done video!
Way until you sea my Sea Scallops! It's up next... 🍻
Hello ,
Can you please let me know if this Ahi Tuna from Aldi's is ok to eat completely raw as a poke bowl ? I need to know if it's 100% ok to eat without searing first ? I wanna make shashimi and bought the ahi tuna selection from Aldi's supermarket
I'm not familiar with it
Hey!
No need for oil in the pan for your sear? Does that not cause the seeds to burn before the tuna gets its sear?
And good vid by the way. I like the simplicity and no-nonsense style - to the point!
Thanks... hope you subscribed then...?!
Nope. 8 to 10 second sear is all it needs on each side so you're not going to burn anything. Plus these can be prepared before hand, wrapped in saran wrap and refrigerated so that they are served cold.
New subbie🙋♀️ Great recipe
I was given a large YFT filet, about 2 inches thick, from a fisherman friend. Not sure the grade of the tuna, and its been sitting in my freezer, vacuum sealed, for about 3 weeks now. Can/should I cut the filet in half? Or is that just personal preference?
You could cut it in half but it's not necessary. It's definitely a personal preference.
Still experimenting with the searing time
To each their own.
Is wasabi's sole purpose flavor here, or does it help in the binding of the seeds. Not a huge fan of it personally.
Flavor and this Vinaigrette is excellent.
nice.. but I need just a tad more sear and a bigger done ring than that..
No one is stopping you! 🍻

EVERRRRRR!
That teeny tiny whisk is too adorable! Must buy one. Oh and the recipe looks delish too!
dmuze Note to self: Right? ;-)
THEAT EXACT SAME WISK IS AT REASOR'S
You are a natural for giving instructions. COVID-19 has me cooking more. Thanks
Hi, I made your tuna!!! My hubby and son RAVED about it, and I LOVED it. You helped add something new to our weekly meals! Can't thank you enough....I'm checking out your other VIDEO'S, so I can add something new! Can't wait🥰👏🍹
Oh yeah?? That's great. Personally, I haven't had this one for a while but it's one of my favorites so, it's nice to hear that you're family enjoyed it too.
Is searing temperature on high?
@@Danceswithwolves79 yes...sear on high heat
@@arlie1118 thanks arlie
This is the best seared tuna recipe. I’ve tried a couple other recipes and this one always came out so good. 👍
Damn skippy! ;-)
Agreed!
Remember, all of the exact recipe ingredients can be found here poormansgourmetkitchen.com/seared-salt-and-pepper-ahi-tuna.html
I'm Tom Bodett for PMGK and we'll leave the pan on for you
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA
LOLOLOLOLOL
Oh that's too good !!!
dragracedude1 lmao 😂😂
Now THAT'"S funny...
Dude i get the ahí tuna all the time at outback it’s always so good and I always want it now I can make it at home
Just be sure to use kosher not table salt, and you'll be golden.
lmao SAME that’s why i’m here. sad idk their sauce recipe for it.
@@PMGK It reminds me of the rub you use for a smoked brisket!
@@Hanna-wt7uu the sauce they use is creamy soy sauce
He gave me "We'll leave the light on for ya" Vibes🥰🥰🥰
Tom bodett from motel 6! 😂 🍻
Yup
The vinagrette absolutely makes this dish. I'd suggest adding some sesame seeds into the crust as well as searing about 20 seconds a side on medium high rather than 10. It's so easy to make. Well done.
Whatever floats your boat! 🍻
Jet speed is right. Searing on high burns your spices. Searing on medium will still sear but not destroy your flavor profile. Also remember olive oil is not recommended to cook on high heat. Use an oil that has a higher smoke point, such as avocado oil so it won’t burn.
I’m definitely making that dressing regardless of weather or not I ever make the tuna.
If you think this sauce is bomb, you should look up my Wasabi Chicken Wings.
Omg he is the Bob Ross of cooking! 😂I love it!
The Bob Ross, Tom Bodett(Motel 6), Vin Diesel, Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston... I've heard them all. 😊
I don't know if this man just made love or tuna or both lol
🍻
I've been looking for a video like this! Also, your voice sounds similar to the narrator for the Homeward Bound Incredible Journey movies.
Wow, thanks!
I think...
The micro whisk was my favorite part
I did this recipe although I cooked the tuna a little longer. It was bangin. That sauce was fiya!
Right?!!
@@PMGK Bro youre making me look goood out here with the ladies! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
That's why I'm here! 😎
Absolutely perfect sauce. I cooked mine about twice as long and I want to take this now at least 3 times a week. Its a delicious testosterone booster.
Thanks. Never knew that about kosher salt. Definitely learn something from your comment thank you very much.
Glad to help
I've already done this recipe once and I came back to get the Wasabi Vinaigrette down. As much as the tuna is the star, the Vinaigrette takes it to the next level and is essential.
My wife and I were just talking about all of the recipes I've posted with a sauce that most people don't realize, in some ways, is the best part. You should look into my Wasabi Wings recipe, however, if you love this Vinaigrette. Bonito flakes set that one off.
that looked like a tuna cheesecake
I love Cheesecake!
Poor Man's Gourmet Kitchen, thank you for this video. I have made this 3 times. It is sooo good. Can't wait to impress my friends.
Just cooked this, came out awesome, the black pepper added the perfect kick for me, great recipe!
That tiny wisk thou 😄😍
I didn't even remember this comment
It's been 4 freaking year!
I'm able to smoke, legally, since then
(Still don't, smoking is horrible for you... or so I hear!)
I'm able to drink (here in US) since my comment
I'm able to vote (never for trump, I'm not completely insane!)
And you liked my comment now!
😅😅😅
Sooo strange...
It looks beautiful. I wonder why you sear it so quickly and leave so much of it raw? A lot of chefs have a sear of about an 8th of an inch/6mm-ish.
Yours is practically raw.
I like the dip as well. Lovely.
Personal preference and its Sushi Grade Tuna, so it doesn't really matter.
I never understood the whole thing until I had some ahi tuna at a Bears game. I thought what's the big deal about tuna? It's fucking tuna! Then I actually ate a piece, and it has changed my life! About the most delicious thing I ever put in my mouth.
If you try this recipe, be sure to use Kosher Salt, not Table salt, or it's going to be WAY too salty.
I made this yesterday it was amazing! So amazing that I made it again today LOL. So glad I found you!
Met too, congratulations! 😂 🍻
I felt I needed to add cooking spray to the pan. Also I would mention not to add to much salt and add black sesame seed to the dry rub. My fist attempt did not look as good as yours but was very tasty. Thanks
If you're adding "too much" salt, your using the wrong kind. I specifically said to use Kosher Salt because table salt is 3X more potent. Adding sesame seeds is an entirely different recipe altogether and should include sugar, cinnamon and five spice powder.
Tuna done right is the like wagyu. So soft, so delicate. And the taste.... it’s to die for.
I was looking for recipes on how to cook this. Of course you would have the recipe that I can actually follow and have the ingredients of!
This really is the easiest and best way to do it, anyway. Plus, you know you're in good hands with PMGK! ;-)
The Tuna was delicious! But I found that it was too salty for my taste so maybe perhaps next time I’ll use less salt.
Make sure to use Kosher Salt. Table salt is 3X more potent. Common mistake but I was clear in my video and in the ingredients listed on my website. 🍻
Definitely learned something today about kosher salt thank you very much. I’ll make sure to buy some the next time I go shopping.
Nice!
I'm Tom Bodett and "We'll leave the light on for you"🤷🏻😂

Awesomeness yes awesomeness...
I almost ate my phone!!😛

To the point no messing around 👍 subscribed 😊
That's How we roll! 😎🍻
Can I substitute the sesame oil for toasted sesame oil?
Yes
That is the most perfectly seared ahi I’ve seen in my life.
Finally, someone that gets it! 👏🍻
If it was possible to give you a hundred likes on this video I would. I was SO hesitant doing this my 1st time. You're video clearly showed how easy it is and they were amazing. I've made this several times since and now make sure I make extra to share with friend so they too can enjoy this. Thank You Much!
You are so welcome!
I made this today for the first time. I thought the dipping sauce needed a tad more honey and the rub was a bit salty. Better to go less salt and add it later at the table. Maybe 25% less on the rub. Yes, I did use Kosher salt. I added a bit more honey to the dipping sauce. I opted to seer the meat for 15 seconds and it was just right. I thought just a smear of oil on the pan would help. Nope. Smoke city. My wife and I liked it.
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it! 🍻
@@PMGK I made this again with less salt (half) and it was still salty. I didn't pay attention that soy sauce and wasabi paste are loaded with salt. If you plan on dipping every piece of tuna, cut the salt on the rub substantially.
Yummy, that's perfect! Thank you.👍✌️
No problem! 😎🤘🍻
Hoping for one on trout sometime, please? 👍✌️
Look up my Trout Amandine
Absolutely the best seared ahi tuna seared recipe!! Thank you!
This is true! ;-)
lol
Thanks for this video! Informative even how to cut and plate.
Just be sure to use Kosher salt, or it will be too salty. ☺
So you can basically eat this raw? Because you only cooked it for like 1 minute. Sorry I’m new to fish.
Just did this for yellowfin tuna. Seared it a little bit longer for a medium.
Thanks
Raw is the best!!
@@SephirothWaifu Hell no.
MUST READ:
- his exact ingredients and recipe are on his website in the description
- MAKE SURE to use KOSHER salt, no other type. If you only have sea salt or table salt, cut the amount of salt in half
- black pepper in this amount can be spicy for some, so either use less or a different type of pepper
- with less salt and pepper, if you still want an even coverage of the fish, add some black and white sesame seeds to the rub
- you can replace the wasabi paste with mustard, although it does change the flavor a bit (good for kids who can’t eat spicy at all)
- if you would like it cooked any more than what you see in the video, only do about 18 seconds on each side, no more than 25 or it’s a different meal. The ingredients were meant for this style of sear, red inside is GOOD!
- this meal goes great with a veggie source; salad, sautéed veggies, whatever
- the dip balances the rub. DONT be afraid to soak your bite.. it’s delicious
- sensitive fire alarms will go off, just turn your oven fan on and pray for the best
- don’t forget to dry the fish and rub it with olive oil (bonus points if you use lemon infused...)
- garlic in the sauce is good if you’re a garlic junkie like me... proceed with caution
- IMPORTANT: if you don’t like how it turned out, try to make mental notes of how you prepared it and what tasted good or bad about it to you. This is so that you can improve on your prep, cook, ingredients and technique later. I found black pepper was too spicy so I subbed in some peppercorn medley. I liked some garlic mustard instead of wasabi paste, I didn’t use only KOSHER salt the first time, I didn’t rub the fish well, I like my seared a bit longer, etc. DONT GIVE UP!! This is an incredibly good meal for macro and micro nutrients as well as super tasty and not that expensive (especially for fish).
I believe in you and I hope you enjoy your meal :))
Enough said! 🙌
TRIPLE B REVIEWZ i just ate it at around 20 seconds per side. It was just frozen grocery store ahi tuna. Do you think its safe to eat?
Tyler Dean depends. With tuna I usually defrost at least over night in a fridge and then let it sit for 20-30 mins out of fridge to get to room temp before cooking. Either way, make sure it’s “sushi-grade” or “sushi-quality” and preferably “wild caught”. These labels should be on the packaging as they are good things and companies like to flaunt that the fish is sushi grade but look carefully to see if it was or ask the store or look the company up online. 20 seconds each side should be more than enough to be safe to eat if it was sushi grade and defrosted properly. Wait a few days and you’ll be able to tell, even if it wasn’t sushi grade or wasn’t defrosted correctly there isn’t a 100% chance you even get sick depending on if there was any bacteria/your stomachs natural acidity and your immune system. Crossing my fingers for ya! 🤞

I'm in my freezer looking for an errant pint of B&J ice cream and stumble onto a package of this Tuna. I needed an idea of how it's prepared..
Go easy on the pepper people. Trust me. But otherwise a perfect technique. Thank you.
t3rr3nc388 wish I read this earlier. Round 2 now. Less pepper
I use a fillet knife
It's super thin and Sharpe
Doesn't tear the fish
Awesome. I'm using a dollar store knife! lol
I eat this with raw peppers and cucumbers dipped in lite ranch everyday. Works good for working out with it.
Delicious 😋 🍻
That tiny whisk has me weeeeeeaaaaakkkkkk
Going to make this tomorrow Why a dry pan on the sear just askin
Habit. You can use oil if you want to but I was trained to do this in a dry wok with several other dry ingredients like Cinnamon, Granulated Sugar, Five Spice Powder, Ginger, Garlic and Onion Powder, as well as Sesame Seeds. Oil ruins the texture of a rub like that.
I just got really good results from KROGER'S steaks ... at our Kroger they just pull them out and put them in the deli container anyway. I think the frozen and thawed steaks were very good ... and cooked to the same level. I had always made myself look for sushi grade and I saw a batch on special so we got 3 small steaks which made 2 6oz portions ..... SO NOW I AM NOT SCARED TO USE THE FROZEN STEAKS ...
Great tutorial by the way ...
Thanks. This was a Frozen Tuna steak by the way.
Frozen is much better when eating fish raw or seared. Deep freezing kills the parasites that might otherwise be killed by cooking throughly. Always use deep frozen when preparing fish in this way.
I'm gonna try this one day. Awesome!
Definitely.
Thanks for watching!
Trying !! And the clam one I’m doing later
Such a nice video and recipe. I love it.
My mouth is watering looks delicious!
It's great, I hope you try it. Just be sure to use Kosher, NOT table salt. 🍻
did it last night!!! loved it and my hubby loved it sooooo much!
Right?!! 🍻
Looks so easy to follow. Thanks for sharing your recipe!!
My pleasure 😊
We made the ahi tuna the exact same way you did! It was amazing! Next time we will put less pepper because it was a little too spicy. Amazing recipe though! Also I was wondering, did the tuna come out a little more pink than red for you? Since I really can't tell by the video.
+Pam Walsh If it's coming out more pink than red you just might be searing to long. no more than 8 to 10 seconds per side.

Oh wow I just made this and it was delicious. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure 😊
wow..! never thought it can be so easy, my boss just came back from fishing and gave me this huge piece of fresh ahi and don't know what to do with it.. ha ha ha ha... well.. now I know :) Thank you so much for sharing looks delish..!!
That's awesome. I hope this works for you then. Personally, I love the Wasabi vinaigrette. 🍻
Thank you for nice recipe, I actually started drooling.. mmm mmm 😋
Excellent---I did add a dab of Wasabi paste to the plate. Shared some with neighbors and they said if I would do this once a week they would pay.

Looks like money, Nice Job!
This is how I like my tuna and my steak.. Cut it off either one, throw it on a cast iron to sear and feed it to me still screaming.. Im a savage... What can I say?
It's the only way to be!

Glad to see you back! I have an Asain recipe I have yet to share that is just as good so, make sure you're subscribed. 😉🍻
Great vid, great presentation, I still think it's raw tuna lol
Sushi grade tuna usually is!
No need for oil in the pan? Ahi tuna noob here!
no
Instant sub. Looks amazing. Thanks for the recipe!
Awesome! Thank you!
that's probably the best recipe video ever, oh and the fish is, you know.
If you say so!
thx
Amazing recipe turned out delicious..and yes he should do a video reading books ...voice so soothing and relaxing
Hey, I'm standing right here. 😂
Thank you 🙏
I overcooked mine . Bummed .
Overcooked fish, especially tuna is dog or cat food.
Yup, he’s not kidding with that “8-10 seconds” bit. I’m sorry your tuna was ruined.
Is it just me or does that tuna look like watermelon lol
Definitely you!
I think I got high blood pressure from seeing so much salt lol
You know what's really funny, Latin decent and all, is that most likely you already have high blood pressure and this recipe is irrelevant because your at high risk for diabetes too, "Juan Valencia!" lmao
He would have been a star on PBS
😂 PBS! 🍻
This sounds as good as all your other recipes. I have just one question. Is it because you sear for such a short time that the pepper does not burn and become bitter?
Yes! And be sure to use Kosher Salt. Table salt will ruin it and make it WAY too salty.
I don't think I have table salt in the house. ;-)
I like my tuna steaks medium well 😅
😬
Amazing, I made it and it tastes delicious. I also love how you take your time to explain everything. Just would love to have exact measurements.
There's a link in the description of every one of my videos for the EXACT ingredients.
Hi Poor Man, yesterday I prepared this delicious plate, but something was wrong. Might be I didn't understand how to put the Kosher salt, Pepper and Paprika. I rubbed the tuna with this mix, before the sesames seeds. I cooked 8 seconds per side. But it remained very salty. I know what was wrong. The vinaigrette was delicious. Thx you very much. I felt in love with your tiny whisk :) Hug
Unfortunately the same thing happened to me. You should never dip a tuna steak in a pile of salt and pepper. All you need to do is sprinkle a little salt and pepper on each side. Also, don’t turn your stove to max as you can burn your frying pan like I almost did.
Dark Alchemist thx you 💖. Next time I will do like you said. The stove was ok. Was a real pity so salty. Have a nice weekend 🙌🏻
