The safety systems of the better drills messed with your testing: 1. The restart protection prevents the drill from starting unexpectedly, when a battery is inserted. Normally, the user doesn't intend anything to happen, just by inserting a battery. The intend is given by freshly pulling the trigger, so the drills make you actually do that. So this is a pretty useful feature (under normal circumstances). 2. The blinking that some stopped drills did indicates an activated kickback control. Emergency room doctor: What are we seeing you for today? Patient: A power drill chuck was ejected from an exploding drill as I was seating the two batteries during a battle to the death TKO event in our power drill fight match...
And how do you suggest that when the triggers are ziptie as well meaning as soon as battery goes in the tool starts as seen in the video.... You really didn't think this one through did you
@@YoungCorruption Could totally put the zip ties loose on the trigger and pull on the zip tie ends so they tighten onto the triggers to start the battle. You didn't think this one through, did you ? Edit : now that I watched it all they even do that at the end of the video, so didn't even have to go very far to find the technique.
I'd argue that the batteries disengaging after impact may be a design feature of the drills. If you drop a drill from a height and the battery separates, It definitely reduces the force of impact/absorbs a portion of the force.
Yeah haha its a safety feature. The weak point on modern drills is the handle and if it takes all the impact force (like the drill landing on the battery and flexing the handle in half) it will snap or explode.
@@terry504able It's true though. I work with both brands everyday. I've dropped dewalt tools from 2 story buildings into concrete but never managed to break anything. On the other end, milwaukee battery retainers not only rattle loose quickly, they also break easily.
Maybe not a safety feature, but... old Nokia phones were knows for losing their batteries when dropped. But they could survie like dozens of drops from various heights, e.g. stairs, survive it and were praised for durability.
My abs hurt from laughing. That was one of the funniest things I've ever watched. I have Kobalt stuff and love it just because it fits my smaller hands better. Happy to see it last as long as it did. Thanks, John.
My only issue is when he did the final high drop it landed at an absolutely horrible la ding for kobalt. Kobalt took the full weight in the drop at an angle. They should have done it from a low drop. The drop beat kobalt, not the Milwaukee
Milwaukee All Day!! 💪😎💪 Next wear safety gloves, secure the batteries with Fkex Tape , use the best drills for each brands and do this again. Lets Go!!..
I have the German Metabo hammer drill....not the most powerful, but definitely a finesse fighter. It's also huge. I don't even know if the other brands could move it lol. I love it though. Smoothest drill ive ever used.
it literally obliterated the Flex, Worked just fine, just a minor defect, they still ran the other tests when the drills had signs of damage but still worked.
To be fair the b&d matrix didn't break. The piece with the chuck comes off so you can attach other tools like a trim saw, recip saw, impact driver and a few other things.
haha I was also just commenting this. I felt like it got done dirty, unless they cut them trying to put it back on. I can say those matrix tools are pretty robust for their class. They were my first real power tools I got new, I even still sometimes use the tiny circular saw attachment because its so good.
One huge glaring issue with this test, is that it only looks at build quality and weight...If two drills go against each other, both have the same build quality, but one is heavier, the heavier one will probably win. The lighter one will end up throwing itself around until it breaks. The heavier one will also put more stress on the chuck of the lighter drill. This would even let weight and girth to over shadow build quality issues because of the excess wear and tear being put on the lighter tools. This is witnessed when the makita loses. It was rotating twice as much as the kobalt, causing it to hit the ground more often, and harder.
Not really true if you look at where most of these drills broke. It was more of a test to see which brand has the more secure gearbox/stronger housing since most of the weight is behind the gearbox anyway.
We need a fresh Milwaukee vs Flex to settle this for good! That red victory was flawed, and both drills had already ran for quite a while. The visciousness of the milwaukee after the first battery fall out from flex, and jumping around the shop was enough to count as an "extra round" thr milwaukee had to go through. Still, that flex put up a hell of a fight and seeing a brand new drill from each go to the death in a final round would crown a clear, undisputed winner! Great vid, y'all.
When the chucks explode right out of the gate, it’s because the other battery snapped in a second before which got the Chuck spinning, and then it tried to engage, which is not good
Ah man, I’ve just started changing all my Milwaukee to Bosch lol. I like the Bosch stuff better. At least with their battery powered grinders work much better than the Milwaukee I had.
And they're "middle the road" for a very attractive price. For the kinds of tasks that aren't super taxing and abusive, Kobalt can hold up really well. They make a great standby tool as well. I have a few of them. The multi-tool is surprisingly solid.
@@regibson23No, it might not be like that. Quite the opposite. As far as I know, DeWalt has a strategy that involves the battery detaching in order to reduce the weight of the tool when it falls, thereby protecting it from more serious damage. Moreover, there's a simple question here: are we comparing the reliability of the drill itself, its durability, or how tightly the battery is attached? Why should it be firmly attached? What does that give us?
I switched from Dewalt to Milwaukee power tools after using a Milwaukee drill at my old job. They just feel so much better to use. I'm glad this video reinforced that decision for me.
Sure it might be BS, but the tooth snapped/deformed, could have been fixed, Joe was a bit too confident by giving that Milwuakee a second chance, thinking that he might win for good. Joe gave Milwuakee a second chance, Double or Nothing and in turn lost when the Flex broke. For me its Fair Game with a touch of BS.
I love your content. Me and my fiance have binge watched your videos. I do electrical and maintenance. He does construction. We both want to start some woodworking in the garage. Makita DID NOT LOSE!!! The Kobalt had stopped... You can see in the slo-mo is light was flashing (indicating it had stopped for being over-torqued) IT WAS RIGGED!!!
@Alex-ve1og with absolutely no effort from Kobalt. Therefore, Kobalt had nothing to do with it. I'd win all my fights too if I just held on and started at my opponent while they threw me around LOL.
Everytime I see these, I look for Hilti. I do construction and an old guy I work with only uses Hilti tools. Other than that, our company uses all Bosch products which I dont mind. Other companies Ive worked with in the past go with Milwaukee. Also Ive noticed depending on trade really dictates what brand you use, example- when I was younger and did carpentry work it seemed like everyone used dewalt. Side note, I did not know CAT made drills. Years ago I had a CAT S60 cell phone that was pretty sweet, I switched carriers and got a new phone, but CAT phones were pretty cool and unique Also side note to my already many side notes. Rigid is known through out the trades for having the best shopvac
@@KiyoshiKane Some youtubers are good and decent humans and recognize how good HF power tools have gotten. Some of elitist ass hats. Or to give benefit of the doubt, just way behind the times. Like Skil is also really decent these days. It lost first round but put up a damn good fight against the Makita.
For those who read Spanish, the competition was tainted, surely paid for by Milwaukee. The confrontation between Bosch and Milwaukee was changed. You can see how the original scene was cut at minute 24:57-24:59. On the floor you can see the damage left over from the confrontation that was not shown.
The battle I want to see is the drive system, not the battery clip. Zip tie or clamp the battery end of the drills to the table, and zip tie both triggers loosely, and give 'em a solid tug to start. That way the failure point is going to be in the real meat if the drill.
The Flex brand started in Germany in 1922 and developed the first flexible-shaft grinder in 1954. In 2013, Flex was acquired by the Chervon group (not to be confused with Chevron), which also owns the power tool brands EGO and Skil and makes Kobalt for Lowe's. Lowe's Home improvement owns the Kobalt name.
In German-speaking countries, an angle grinder is colloquially referred to as a “Flex”. Hardly any of us call it an angle grinder or "Winkelschleifer".
Swiss woodworker here: absolutely agree. FLEX invented the angle grinder and still everybody calls similar tools just FLEX. Same as FEIN or TIGER-Säge.@@ToAcesoout
That was by far the most entertaining tool test I’ve ever seen. I was sad to see Metabo eat it but as a guy with an entire shop full of Milwaukee I’d say I’m pretty stoked!
my roommate has nothing but kobalt tools, and they all work really well... tbh, the one oddball we have is the one with problems (a skil drillpress, which we can't adjust the belts on it, as what it came with are a little too small, and therefore incredibly tight, to the point that none of our household can actually get them off of it)
@@choward874 I took them back so fast. But we all do different things and and have different levels of abuse. I wasn't impressed. I got pretty good luck with my DeWalt would prefer Milwaukee it's that we use at work but I ain't paying the extra doesn't serve the purpose for me.
It was a funny video but a little disappointed the rules weren't followed in the Flex vs Milwaukee, Flex broke Milwaukees tooth, then gave Milwaukees battery a chance to cool ? Then in the rematch you pulled Flex Chuck before they even got a chance to hit the floor. In other words.... you made Flex take a dive. 😅
I'm not sure if they were kidding or not but Flex is a great brand, Milwaukee of Germany (if Festool didn't exist , but often different users) and yes it had an unfair advantage. Side note I'm surprised Hercules failed so quick, but at the battery socket maybe a different one would be better... Chalk it up to quality control
@@williamrogers8299 For the battery thing I believe it popping out is so the whole tool doesnt get busted/snap when you drop it really hard. Think about how you could drop your old nokia and it wouldnt break, they were not actually super strong phones it was just they popped apart instead of breaking.
7:45 Bauer does NOT only make brushed drills! I don't know what the heck he was on about there. This isn't even a recent thing. The brushless models have been out for like 2 years!
Bauer's are great, say what you will about them but they're decent tools for the price. Just don't use them as a hammer. Nothing lasts if you use it the wrong way.
My Bauer is 7 years old and treated like shit, used to tap into half inch thick I beams and left in the rain. Made a weird sound 3 years ago and still chugs along. Best drill I've ever owned
Not fair. I like some of the comments saying to zip tie the battery too. Also , Kobalt is far from dead. They just celebrated 100th anniversary and introduced some new tools. Big fan. Good quality tools at a fair price. Thanks guys. Love your stuff. ❤
@@David_Stevens Yeah I think there are some distinct chance that Rona (not familar with them but apparently a Canadian store) may be dropping Kobalt. Something I have missed in the quick Lowes research, is that Lowes sold all Canadian business (including Canadian Lowes stores). All Canadian Lowes will become Rona's and therefore they will be dropping the Lowes homebrand. Rona's actions have nothing to do with Kobalt.
Hmm....I think the Milwaukee lost. The point of the challenge was to see which one broke first, and the Flex broke after the Milwaukee....a broken chuck tooth is still a break.
Flex is actually a premium brand from Germany. But they re usually famous for their angle grinders, they are simple called flex in Germany no matter the make.
Why is it that Milwaukee fanboys always have to throw the rules aside in their comparisons? Had to DQ DeWalt over something unrelated to the test and force Flex to take a dive while giving lil red every break you could. Seems Milwaukee attracts the same type of people that lift their pavement princesses.
Milwaukee drills are no joke. I have the first gen M18 fuel 1/4” impact. Way more exciting than I thought it would be lmao. Especially when the front of the drill gets pulled off
Bosh for life! But then again, this is a competition on who has the most expensive cheap drill.
They did the Bosch dirty with that launch.
@@Elvewizzy. If it breaks from that, it would break from your dropping it by mistake. Which can happen often.
The Dewalt isn't even close to be their cheapest brushless dill. There's like 2 or 3 models bellow.
I just about peed myself watching this. Love it 😂
i never thought id enjoy watching drills violently flip around and combust like a german stick grenade this much
I'd argue that the batteries disengaging after impact may be a design feature of the drills. If you drop a drill from a height and the battery separates, It definitely reduces the force of impact/absorbs a portion of the force.
Came to say similar, if I drop my drill I WANT the battery to fall out. It just shouldn't fall out during normal use
Yeah haha its a safety feature. The weak point on modern drills is the handle and if it takes all the impact force (like the drill landing on the battery and flexing the handle in half) it will snap or explode.
I disagree. I think the drill stops once the trigger isn't pressed so why do we need the batteries to pop out when dropped?
You guys should pit a Milwaukee vs a Snap-On drill!!!😂 I loved this man!

Kinda bummed you didn't have German Metabo, Hilti and Festool in the contest, I think they would've fared really well😎 great video
Those are 3 of the most expensive brands, and hard to find haha
This was the cheapest brushless drills. Hitting only has less ridiculously expensive.
I have the German Metabo hammer drill....not the most powerful, but definitely a finesse fighter. It's also huge. I don't even know if the other brands could move it lol. I love it though. Smoothest drill ive ever used.
Festool would get shredded by an 18v dewalt from 2001 with the orginal nicads lmao
The Hilti would have been disqualified for suspected steroid use
People that own kobalt most feel very proud... It fight all the way to the end with strength and courage🥊🥊

is this how Pete Rose feels? ....... Too soon? R.I.P.
We’ll just remember it as Less of a championship, more of a participation trophy.
I would agree if the MKE didn't go the distance...MILWAUKEE FOREVER
it literally obliterated the Flex, Worked just fine, just a minor defect, they still ran the other tests when the drills had signs of damage but still worked.
But it didnt break if it still runs lol.
I am a Kobalt guy, so I’m proud of that blue underdog!
Same here, i do feel like the kobalt took the impact when it hit the floor on the last round making it break.
I agree
22:54 it broke before it even fell. Clear KO
1:02 "ultimint"
He said it like it was a question
My dad always bought black and decker. I have Milwaukee. Needless to say his retirement is well funded.
It was rotating twice as much as the kobalt, causing it to hit the ground more often, and harder.
and yet the lighter drill won in the final round
The heavy drill hits the ground with more force than the light drill
Not really true if you look at where most of these drills broke. It was more of a test to see which brand has the more secure gearbox/stronger housing since most of the weight is behind the gearbox anyway.
@@JackBlastem True quality, or the other drill was weak after it's other matches
@@Aikano9 Not when they start on the ground...The heavy drill doesn't leave the ground
When the chucks explode right out of the gate, it’s because the other battery snapped in a second before which got the Chuck spinning, and then it tried to engage, which is not good
Woah hold up the milwaukee gets a second chance even after damage but the dewalts battery falls out and its done. 🤦
It fell out 480 times, what else du you want 🤣
@@danbertelsen9139 the last test it fell out twice it didn't break. Other get another chance but na DeWalt nothing. Prejudice

Ah man, I’ve just started changing all my Milwaukee to Bosch lol. I like the Bosch stuff better. At least with their battery powered grinders work much better than the Milwaukee I had.
Kobalt is my preferred tool brand because they're so "middle of the road", every time Project Farm tests tools Kobalt is always middle of the pack.
And they're "middle the road" for a very attractive price. For the kinds of tasks that aren't super taxing and abusive, Kobalt can hold up really well. They make a great standby tool as well. I have a few of them. The multi-tool is surprisingly solid.
I agree, I really like my Kolbalts
This is probably the only video that made me laugh 😂 this is so stupid yet so fun.
I'm really disappointed y'all didn't tape the batteries on each drill
That's part of durability.
Okay but they have to snap the battery’s in so they can start the fight how else would you do it? If zip ties are on triggers?
Milwaukee sales📈📈📈
Do you tape the batteries on your drill at work?? 😂😂😂
I switched from Dewalt to Milwaukee power tools after using a Milwaukee drill at my old job. They just feel so much better to use. I'm glad this video reinforced that decision for me.
That Milwaukee win was BS 23:12
Lmao, regardless it proved it’s a top 3 contender at least
The whole thing was BS
Sure it might be BS, but the tooth snapped/deformed, could have been fixed, Joe was a bit too confident by giving that Milwuakee a second chance, thinking that he might win for good. Joe gave Milwuakee a second chance, Double or Nothing and in turn lost when the Flex broke. For me its Fair Game with a touch of BS.

Makita still broke first...
Years ago I had a CAT S60 cell phone that was pretty sweet, I switched carriers and got a new phone, but CAT phones were pretty cool and unique
Also side note to my already many side notes. Rigid is known through out the trades for having the best shopvac

Hardly any of us call it an angle grinder or "Winkelschleifer".

my roommate has nothing but kobalt tools, and they all work really well... tbh, the one oddball we have is the one with problems (a skil drillpress, which we can't adjust the belts on it, as what it came with are a little too small, and therefore incredibly tight, to the point that none of our household can actually get them off of it)

The bosch also got a funky pull lol XD not saying it was on purpose but it really didnt help

After their comment, I went to look that up. It seems there has been tons of rumors for years but they seem very healthy.
They all want free tools you noticed the other tool hit the ground first plus Milwaukee lost to flex
If you watch the Makita and Kobalt fight at 17:00 with 0.25x speed on it sounds like everyone is extremely drunk 😂
From what I seen, I would take the Flex over any of them.
Milwaukee drills are no joke. I have the first gen M18 fuel 1/4” impact. It has been left in the rain, dropped from a 28ft ladder multiple times, submerged in mud and still finished the rainy day without a problem, I can go on and on. 10 years later it still does everything I need it to. Won't ever switch brands
💀 are you just salty your trash drill lost?, Milwaukee quite literally are the BEST in the tool scene there is no better
Middleweight Dewalt fighting the fatass Kobalt is so unfair.
Exactly because the dealer gets thrown around while the koblalt just got to sit there and avoid the hits
They should have strapped the drills to a table to test the power not the durability
I had fun watching this. And as a Milwaukee tools owner, I appreciated the ending lol
