I think 2024 might be the most Grab Bag year we’ve ever gotten on the label, and I like that the 2024 list shows that Edit: this is also the first time a female artist has made top 1 in a best of list before, so congrats to CHYL
So I gathered some data during the voting process the other week, recording every single vote shared across the Monstercat discord, the Monstercat subreddit, and a few other places, excluding duplicates (votes posted by the same person in two or more different places), and got a list that looks like this: 1. Euphoria Rush 2. Out of Frame 3. Digital Friends 4. Ghost in the Shadows 5. 4D 6. The Magic 7. Leave The World Behind 8. Lifeforce 9. Heaven 10. Believe What You Want 11. HOT SHOT 12. Chromatically 13. Decimate 14. Lost Call 15. Heavy Heart 16. Lush 17. Falling in Love 18. Pyroclastic 19. Much is Taken, Much Abides 20. Hideaway 21. Hopeless 22. Liminal 23. SEE YOU DROP 24. promises 25. Give in to you 26. Rawthentic 27. Endless in Between 28. Open The Pit 29. OUR STARS 30. Damage 31. World Wide Web 32. Gravity 33. Bones 34. Stealing Fire 35. wish. 36. Where Does The Light Go 37. Alibi 38. EYES ON ME 39. So Lost 40. Generation Gap 41. Heaven Knows 42. The Beginning 43. Coming Back 44. The Epic Octopus Song 45. Right Here, Right Now 46. Thick Of It All 47. Have It All 48. FAR OUT VIP 49. Feeling Low 50. MEANT 2 BE 51. Around 52. sound therapy 53. Euphoria 54. Ever Wanted 55. Something Beautiful 56. I Don't Mind The extra 6 tracks here are due to the last few uncaged and instinct tracks having the same number of votes, so I included them all. By FAR the thing I am most upset about is how utterly shafted Ghost in the Shadows was. This track was INSANELY popular amongst the core community, always in the top 6 throughout the entire voting process and even getting up to number 2 at one point, ending at spot #4. I was championing it the whole way and thought for SURE it would have a guaranteed spot in the top #30-#11 in the Uncaged category, but it got completely snubbed :( It's such a stellar track and showcases both artists' skills perfectly. I guess it just goes to show that there is a VERY large percentage of voters that are not involved in the community at all. Other snubs I'm disappointed by are The Epic Octopus Song, Liminal, and Right Here, Right Now. I thought all three of these had a basically guaranteed spot in throughout the whole year, but I guessed wrong on that too :/ justice for Dani Demand, Convexity, Derpcat and NIRE, they all made debuts this year and absolutely killed it and they did not get the recognition they deserved at all. I really really hope Monstercat signs their music again because they more than deserve spots on the Best of comp series. Overall I think the results in this comp are DECENT but there are plenty of tracks I don't personally care for and probably never will, including DABAx4, the two Bossfight tracks, SEE YOU DROP, Heaven, Give in to you, Hideaway, The Beginning, So Lost, Nervous System, Take It Back, Rain Dance, The Banana Song, and all of the Instinct results aside from Digital Friends (and even that is slowly growing off of me). That's nearly half of the entire list, something that's never really happened with a Best of comp for me before. Even last year, with as much as I didn't care for Monstercat's general output, had a pretty standout Best of list, containing most of the tracks that stood out to me the most in 2023. This year? It just feels so... middling. A lot of stuff here felt half baked and like it could have been worked on or expanded more, but instead opted to play it safe and cut the track down to hit the below 3 minute mark and/or avoid any unique sound design stuff relative to its typical subgenre to not rock the boat too much which are both trends I cannot stand nowadays. Overall an extremely mixed bag of a compilation, definitely my least favorite Best of comp (and I guess that works out since it also has by far the worst Best of artwork for me). I might make a mix of my own top songs of the year on the label to make up for it lmao
If you asked me three years ago if I'd like to see the list only showcase one song for every artist, I would've said yeah because there were a ton of newcomers that had all these amazing songs but they were unrepresented when it came to the Best Of Compilations (like OBLVYN, Danny Leax, KDYN, EDDIE, Hausman, Odsen, Glaue and Banaati to name a few from the underrepresented brands of that year). Now of course part of this reason is likely that they didn't divide the brands by how often they released until 2023, but doing one per artist or starting this distribution sooner would've probably helped exposed some lesser-known names that were making actually good music. However, in 2024, I feel like the tides have shifted, and all the newcomers aren't making as great of music. The ones that are (Skybreak mostly lmao) are getting all the appreciation they deserve because they actually make the great music. The only two newcomers I could say got snubbed this year were Solomon France and Convexity. I think not limiting it to one per artist nowadays is great because we could see these artists that make consistently great music sweep the votes. As for the label distribution, I get why it's there, and it should probably be kept until Silk becomes a well-recognized brand and isn't ignored by half the actual community. I do think 10 isn't enough for Instinct, but if that means we're guaranteed 10 Silk, then I guess I'm happy.
i just wish instinct had a bit more representation, there’s so much good and unique stuff there but often times it just gets overtaken by lots of house
Delighted that No Tomorrow is featured on the list. I've been waiting for that Jason's hardstyle ID since he often plays hard dance tracks on his sets. I think it's been a while as well I heard a euphoric hardstyle song at Monstercat.
Overall pretty satisfied with the list and I’m glad Euphoria Rush was first (Skybreak Sweep!) but Liminal and Coming Back were sure snubs. I mean, its WRLD’s grand return and a great tune. One song that I cannot justify being here is Wake Up. Calling that song mid would be a complement, it’s so boring and lifeless.
what a crime that liminal didnt make it. other than that, i think dread and immortal by rzrkt were really good but im not surprised that they arent on the list. probably just my opinion
Still cant quite grasp how Euphoria Eish managed to get nr1 and Lush is onlx nr5 and Stealing Fire isnt even on the list. It deffo wasnt what i was expecting
Amazing list for instinct. Above both the lowest silk and uncaged. This system absolutely sucks. If you want the spilt, you’re gonna have to bring back 1 track for 1 artist rule. Because 4 artists repeating twice filling up 8 spots isn’t showing diversity. This system has progressively gotten worst over 3 years. And I think some people don’t want to admit it because it favors their artists instead of looking at it for equality.
Ok maybe a hot take here, but I don't think Euphoria Rush should be #1. I think it's a great track and all, but 4D, Digital Friends, Out of Frame, and even Heavy Heart I think had more traction and publicity, and are a better representation of the year
I'm with you there, Give in to you is a GOOD song but it's by far the worst song on his album and that's including the interludes and intro, it's just so safe and meh. I also don't hear VR in it basically at all. would have loved something similar to Exile off of Simulation but nope, it's just a Rezz song. oof.
i think with the introduction of so many big names to mc this year this list was very dominated by big names. a lot of the songs in the 20-40 uncaged i find it hard to believe were really that loved by the community and i think their streaming numbers and name behind them had a larger say in their placement. as for the list structure, i think capping each artist at one song would make the list just feel really inaccurate. i don't think that's really been a problem this or past years
surprised there was no pixel terror, no WRLD, and no ARMNHMR. aside from that pretty solid list in terms of artists but some of the chosen tracks are questionable (ex wake up by alan walker instead of any of the others from that EP). i hope they release more instinct next year or at least allow for more of it on the compilation
This list felt incredibly underwhelming, and I can point to one big reason why. Since there were so many briddim songs and acts (something the majority of Monstercat community doesn't like), the community basically voted whatever has worked in the past. I've also noticed that most of the votes relied on connections to games like Beat Saber and Rocket League or singles released weeks before a beloved album. The list just felt too predictable, or if there were surprises, I wish they would've been something else. The worst of the ladder case is Take It Back which is a song I hated when I first listened to it and hasn't changed since. Not My Night was right there. But DABADABA and Wake Up are right behind it. For the former, of all the meme songs did we really need to pick that because of Dion Timmer's name? I would've preferred Play It Twice over that song, even if I'm not a fan of it. And for Wake Up, it felt like it got there because of popularity and the surprise factor. But did it really need to be on this list over Ghost In The Shadows, Gravity, Hopeless, Crisis or Magazine, Breathe Underwater, Coming Back, Lost Call and Pandora? The only positive surprise for songs I didn't expect to be on this compilation were EYES ON ME by Control Freak, Endless In Between by k?d, and Heaven Knows by Kaskade & Punctual. One way to fix this could be to cap off voting to 2 songs per artist, which is a formula I tend to use. That way there's not so much restriction on which singles to vote for while allowing some newer names to get a chance. Those are my thoughts.
I have mixed feelings about it tbh. Yes there are some weird picks but having Steve Aoki and Alan Walker on there is definitely a marketing move rather than an actual pick, but then again they are probably paid to do that so I'm fine with it
I can see why Alan is on here cuz of his loyal fanbase, but for Steve case, I don’t think Koven fan’s vote can have it to be that high considering the fact that Steve fans don’t seems to be the type of person to vote for stuff like this and there aren’t that many. But idk, maybe his label’s fan vote in which case I can understand
basedtied media
I'm glad you made it in bo2024 once again, albeit not no1 on silk due to the existence of the two silk albums
@ nigel shingo and BT are some of my biggest inspirations and friends so i’m more than happy to “lose” to them
I think 2024 might be the most Grab Bag year we’ve ever gotten on the label, and I like that the 2024 list shows that

also agree with this

Grant, chime, sharks and skybreak in top 10? 🔥

I LOVE MC SILK! Listen to it all the time when I'm studying and melodic house is one of my favorite genres.
For sure a more interesting list with this one! With an unexpected and expected sweeps.
A format I would like to see for the best of compilation is a combination of one song per artist, and the 30 uncaged 10 instinct 10 silk thing
what a crime that liminal didnt make it. other than that, i think dread and immortal by rzrkt were really good but im not surprised that they arent on the list. probably just my opinion
This is my first time being involved in watching any of this. It was fun as hell watching my favorite songs be recognized for being great :D

Hello RUclips this is boosttime media
I’m indeed boosted

Don't really understand Euphoria Rush being 1st
yeah same lol. i thought it would be skybreak but def not that one
same tbh.

for me i still really dont get why so many people love give in to you by virtual riot. i just dont understand whats so special about it
exactly my opinion aswell but tbh, all the singles released b4 the album were kinda meh imo
I'm with you there, Give in to you is a GOOD song but it's by far the worst song on his album and that's including the interludes and intro, it's just so safe and meh. @@EscheroOfficial yup
@@EscheroOfficial for me I think scorched earth and stealing fire were the best from the album

Pretty good list not gonna lie, I actually chose Steve Aoki's as it was a banger, and Alan's whole EP was just mid, but overall a decent list
I have mixed feelings about it tbh. Yes there are some weird picks but having Steve Aoki and Alan Walker on there is definitely a marketing move rather than an actual pick, but then again they are probably paid to do that so I'm fine with it
I’m confused what you mean, are you insinuating monstercat overrode votes to include Steve and Alan? I can assure you that’s not the case
I don’t know with absolutely certainty, but I don’t think Monstercat in any way “changed” the votes to include Alan Walker and Steve Aoki
I can see why Alan is on here cuz of his loyal fanbase, but for Steve case, I don’t think Koven fan’s vote can have it to be that high considering the fact that Steve fans don’t seems to be the type of person to vote for stuff like this and there aren’t that many.
