    Thank you so much for this video. I am watching it from Turkey and I will be using this method to help with my olives. I cannot thank you enough for making the information about Knf accessible, streamlined and very informative. I love all your videos and appreciate how much you're helping other comeback to natural approaches.

    my God!
    I am delighted!
    my name is sasha, I grow mushrooms on a small urban farm in russia.
    flattered by the visuals, content, presentation and accent!
    I want to recommend leaving the harvested cultures for a week in the refrigerator, so that more generations of bacteria and fungi would produce spores in unfavorable conditions.
    because living colonies will definitely not survive sugar conservation, and spores will definitely survive.
    Forgive the illiteracy of expressions, Google translator tried as best he could.

    Really dude, I am going to sound a bit dramatic, but this video and probably your others (I haven't seen yet) are really leading us the right way/ direction.. The beauty of this and your experiments is the scalability.. Most people can get into this on a small scale without need for specialty equipment..

      How long do you ferment 1:1 IMO1/BS so you don't use it too early? How do you store it long term? Do you have to keep adding BS? Thanks!

    thank you for a clear explanation of the process,
    I have an allotment and wish to incorp[ortate some of the KNF and JADAM ideas to assist with cheaper and better technics that look after the soil,
    I love the back-to-Eden method of using wood chip around the perennials,
    this year I moved from one plot to another, on the same site, I should go check my old plot as the wood chip I had around the Rhubarb and at the base of a tree line become naturally inoculated with mycelium, as we are talking meters and not miles, the growing conditions are very similar but my new plot does have more sun due to no tree line,
    so I'm going to try to reclaim some of the inoculated wood chip and incorporate it into my new plot and while I'm at it, I'll attempt this method to gather the IMO 1 and 2 as I know the box of rice will be left alone on the gated site.
    btw
    Epping Forest is not too far from me too =P

    Hi! We have a fairly shady corner of our back garden where there is a well established birch tree, plus plenty of other vegetation, including what's growing in our neighbours' gardens. There's plenty of leaf mold under the tree. Do you think that this would be a good location for collecting IMO?

  • @BetterAndBetterEveryDay
    @BetterAndBetterEveryDay 2 месяца назад

    I really liked your video very much as you explain the steps easily, and I really enjoy your channel very, very much, I love your content. But I have some critique on your process for IMO1. I don't know if you really can collect IMO1 the way you do it. In the original setting you have wooden boxes (this is not important, only if you want to reuse them) that have 1-2mm gaps in the bottom so that the rice can get in contact with the soil. So the best way would be to poke holes in your box, fill in the rice (without the paper towels). Perhaps some rice would drizzle out, but that is not a problem, as this is building a bridge between the soil and your rice in the box. When the rice is inoculated via this bridge by the mycelium, it will clump together and stay in your box, even if some fell out of it. And the lid should also be open for airflow, only covered with a paper towel. On the wooden box, you can have a lid with a mesh so that critters can't get in. For your box, I don't know how you would do that, so that your rice don't get eaten by critters. So in essence, I think that your box is too closed up for IMO to get in.

  • @sammorris2389

    Your IMO isn't suppose to look like a tyedye shirt, the colours are usually from bad bacteria brought in by bugs when they munch on the rice it should be white and fuzzy, try using a closed wooden box the IMO can go through the wood but bugs cant! "pureknf drake" here on youtube has hours and hours of info on making imo and has personally studied under Cho, aswell as chris trump. Awesome and informative video to introduce the best way of growing!!!

    • @SpicyMoustache
      @SpicyMoustache  3 года назад +1

      Thank you Sam, I’ll definitely check it out. I watched all Chris’s videos and I’m studying every night JADAM and KNF. I spoke to a few people that studied with some of this big names in KNF and they said that my collection it’s good. Not a grade A but still usable in the garden. I’ll try with the wooden box next time, at the moment, I have another collection out in cardboard at the moment in a really good spot, let’s see how it goes.

      Humus near the coast is the best. You can use the mix of rice, boiled potato, barlet rice, seawater, crabshell. Crabshell is important, microorganisms that decompose crab shells are important for directly attacking spoilage bacteria. Luckily these microbes abound near the sea 🎉

    Hi, Alessandro! Nice vid! I have a question about it though. Do IMOs have any effects if my plants already grow directly in the ground (what I’m saying is that they are not planted on an urban garden but rather in my homestead). I mean, native microorganisms are already living in the soil and I assume they are already strongly associated with my plants, however, this seems so fun to do that I want to try it out!

    • @SpicyMoustache
      @SpicyMoustache  3 года назад +3

      Hello! Yes, they will affect your plants but in a beneficial way. Basically, as you said the soil web in your homestead is already there. However, when you add indigenous microorganisms, you’ll reinforce the already present soil web and make it more active. Also, you’ll reinforce the symbiotic relationship between microorganisms and plants 😊

    I’ve been watching your videos for awhile and decided to start growing some food from our food. Things are growing good except two things. Cantaloupe and watermelon. I’ve lost all my watermelon and all but one cantaloupe. I started more watermelons because I’m sure I overwatered the first plants. But other people are saying they are having problems with watermelons and melons as well. Can you maybe do a video on these two plants please? My peas are easy and I was able to enjoy one yesterday! The tomatoes are cherry and I have a bunch of groups of them but they seem to take forever to ripen. But the watermelon seems to look wilted when it’s in the sun so I would give it a good mist which killed them im sure. Same with the cantaloupe. I thought watermelon and melons liked a lot of sun? Help😢

    I’m just super curious, everything I’ve heard says you want to collect imo that is white and somewhat fluffy looking. If it has pink or blue, is this bad? My first collection is mostly white/ blue white with some pink streaks.

      As long as it it mostly white and fluffy forming chunks of rice, I’d keep it! 😊

      No worries! Unfortunately, nope, you need to use as less refined sugar as possible 😊

    A question about the brown sugar, does it have to be organic? While yes, organic is best it's difficult to find in my area for some reason.

    • @SpicyMoustache
      @SpicyMoustache  2 года назад

      Yes, it’s much better to use it organic or jaggery sugar :)

      You can still do it but it would be much different. Make sure to source them from an area near by and do not import them from anywhere else’s or they will die straight away due to the different climate

    What prevents animal activity while you're collecting? Opposums, racoons, fox even dogs will eat rice left in a box.
