hey, you may have noticed a couple abrupt cuts towards the end. my channel is kind of undergoing a transformation, so i had to do a few retcons here and there. thanks for watching! 🖤patreon: www.patreon.com/bubbletea_
Funny thing that Yukari haters harp on Yukari "not respecting the sacrifice of the MC" in the Answer...when in reality no one knew the cause of death for the MC nor knew that he sacrificed himself to save everyone...and only when Yukari knew about in near the end she truly understood the wrongs of her actions. That's what trend following gets you.
@Vagelis Douliakas What Ken said at that moment was just what he believed...that doesn't automatically confirms that's exactly what happened (I mean, we as the audience know because we saw it, but the characters still don't.)
@@Mavuika_GyaruAlready replied to that point before, Ken was only stating what he believed, none of them knew for sure what happened to the MC while inside Nyx.
I'll always have a soft spot for Yukari, trauma and depression will make u think irrationally, and I sympathize with her. It's realistic that they don't see things the same way. And Yukari isn't a push over, she doesn't give in to peer pressure - if everyone ganged up on Fuuka for example she would've probably just have let them silence her. Yukari needed the compassion that Mitsuru showed her, she needed someone who genuinly cared for her to help her come to the realization. It's believable
A youtuber said not so long ago this, and I totally agree with it: "Yukari is heavily frustrating, but she's the one character that you can relate to because most of us acted like her whenever we were her age. She'll grow up, but like... She is relatable, even if it's unlikable."
I really don't understand why people expected her to behave rationally. The person who finally helped her find some form of closure revolving her father's death and her fractured relationship with her mother just died. Things were literally finally starting to look up for her, and then the MC dies. And then she is given the impression that she has a chance to undo that. If someone helped you through the grieving process of losing a parent, and then they died shortly after helping you, that would probably destroy you.
@@MaxusFox23 i can’t comprehend why ppl could dislike Yukari tho. Cuz nothing she’s done is even THAT bad. Especially when we compare to other fan fav characters.
@@ma.2089 what about what she could’ve done had Yukari won that pathetic of excuse of a ‘tournament’? The whole world would’ve ended just for her greediness to just see him once again and most definitely stopped him before MC having the chance to save the world. Mitsuru is even worse for enabling her and go along with that nasty behavior towards the whole situation from Yukari. Pea brained Akihiko and the brat didn’t help either. Fuuka and Aigis were indecisive and hesitant. Junpei was the only levelheaded character out of all of them. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how much do you like Yukari and if you sympathized with her during her grief. I don’t like her, so I didn’t. This “Yukari” Episode was a gift for her fans and a curse for people like me. It was such a terrible experience gameplay and plot alike for me.
I love the part where you said you think internet opinion culture has made it so that games can’t just be bad, I think that applies to the reverse as well, with games not just being great or good, they have to be hyped up as the best game in the genre and called one of the best games ever made and shutting aside all constructive criticisms, I think that conversations around video game criticism has become extremely toxic.
This immediately made me think of both ocarina of time and Chrono Trigger. Both games have fans that swear they're the greatest of all time, and refuse to acknowledge that both have multiple flaws. There is no such thing as a perfect game. Never has been, never will be.
Clicked on this video while looking up opinions on Episode Aigis (for the remake) and this applies to P3R so hard it hurts. It's such a good game, and such a good remake, but it's either you consider it the best game ever made or you consider it trash because it's not a perfect 1:1 remake. And don't get me started on liking the themes of Episode Aigis but hating the fact that the gameplay portion is just Tartarus 2.0 with nothing interesting aside from that. You must hate it if you think that way. Clearly.
Ok just finished the whole video but yeah the whole beef was forced for sure but for me it made me appreciate yukari's character a lot. We dont usually get to see the ugly selfish of a person, and you know shes wrong but you can (well i did) empathize with her. And literally when mitsuru stood by her post battle, i straight up was ugly crying
I personally found The Answer to be great in terms of the story and characterization. I heard a lot of shit about The Answer, but in spite of that I ended up enjoying it. My biggest issue with The Answer is all gameplay related. There was no good reason to get rid of the compendium for example, sure you can counteract the lack of a compendium, but that does not mean it was a good idea to get rid of it. The dungeon crawling is another example, although this game does dungeon crawling just fine, that's all it is: just fine/10. The social sim aspect was needed in-between the dungeon crawling for me to fall in love this game. For The Answer its general structure is tell a bit of the story, then you dungeon crawl, then it tells a bit more of the story, then you dungeon crawl again, and it's just that over and over until you get to the final boss; it gets old and I only held out because I was enjoying the story. With that said Persona 3 FES' unmodded battle system does slap, and I'm glad that you give it the respect that it deserves.
I have seen many people not understand what her story was about or misunderstand what The Answer actually is. The Answer is a story about grief and Yukari is literally one of the most important characters of that narrative. Because she is the one who is actually hurting the most in that narrative. Yukari is in pain, serious, profound pain and it is not unjustified. Somebody she loved died and she doesn't know what to do with that. The story of The Answer is about dealing with grief and all the characters have different perspectives on it. Because clearly all of them cared about the protagonist, but everybody is in a different head space during the story. And Yukari is the one in the most humane space. She is deeply and badly hurting that she lost a loved one. Aegis is also like that, but she ended disconecting of her feelings, while Yukari can barely control hers. The fights in The Answer with the party members are more a way to grieve in group than a battle to the death or anything. Everybody is grieving and fighting is literally all they can do with the grief. That is why "Heartful cry" is such a good song for the fights. And Yukari is the central character of the grief narrative, because she is the one grieving the most. She is being irrational and lost, yeah. Somebody she loved DIED. It honestly the most humane response. She is being irrational, but for good reasons. And that is the saving grace of that story. Because the grief narrative is the literal basis of The Answer and the reason the story is actually happening. And Yukari's arc is the literal climax of that story, at the end of the fight with Aegis. It is actually the reason The Answer actually works as a story.
I think ppl also harp on Yukari being aggressive for no reason. Junpei and Akihiko do the same thing, and they’re given much much more leeway. In the answer itself, Yukari was very unsure about her feelings when they had the discussion about the keys. It was Akihiko who started insulting her and made her respond angrily. Akihiko and Yukari are on different sides, with the same level of aggression and stubbornness. Ppl just don’t like ppl who become angry in grief, especially women.
@@Myrmiddonn People really forget even her reason to go through the entire thing was even in the main story (Ive sadly seen someone's P3R Playthrough and just outright hates yukari cause of her behavior and the slap to the MC, stupid reasons. Then in yakushima instead of being understanding he literally goes the "okay go away forever now" route...) Yet when Junpei gets annoying AF with his envious jealousy over being tje "big boi leader" nobody bats an eye. (I like both characters, each deals with their stuff).
i find yukari to be the most layered and well-written character in persona 3. she’s been through a lot her entire life, the death of her father and basically being the emotional rock of her grieving mother, while maintaining the facade of a seemingly normal high school student honestly a lot of it boils down to the demographic. a part of the playerbase can’t fathom mature storytelling and/or accurate portrayals of grief and just women in general (let’s be real most mega weebs have incel tendencies). they just want their “waifus” to not be “ruined” by story beats that are thematically in line with what the game is trying to say
I have always loved P3 in term of story, while P5 have the overarching theme of people being screwed by society. P3's main cast is strictly people who have experienced loss and learned to accepted their grief and moving on with life. I wouldn't say it's a better theme, but personally I like it much better than P5 where they fought back and triumphed against society who has wronged them. In P3 most of them never had closure in term of fulfillment, just acceptance that sometimes life just sucks and there's nothing you could do but learn to live with it and moving forward.
P3 easily has the best story in Persona and arguably all of Megaten. (minus maybe both DDS games combined) DeSu1 eat your heart out. That game is more so the perfection of the classic SMT storyline (Tokyo setting, demon invasion, biblical themes, law vs chaos vs neutral, post apocalyptic, etc) than anything truly special. Too bad the gameplay in Persona 3 is quite dated, even compared to Persona 4 which only released a year later. Persona 4 honestly has the best gameplay in Persona. Not outdated and old fashioned like P1-P3 and not piss easy "press a to win" like P2IS PSP and P5/P5R.
I would even go so far as to say it's a better theme, or at least a more mature and universal one. Idk, maybe it's because P5 also has this specific emphasis on "shitty adults" beyond injustice or social exploitation more generally, which would appeal most to teens and preteens
@@index3876 I'd say the thing about the themes is that death and loss are universal themes to use. Everyone ever could understand death and loss. P5 tackles specifically Japanese society and how their adults and minors operate in that society. If you're not from there or don't know much about it, the topic isn't gonna land as well. Lady Virgillia makes some good vids on the topic and it did make appreciate the theme more, but P3 just has a very simple and very effective theme, and it used it well.
@@thegoodvillain777 Social injustice is a fairly universal theme on paper, and it can have a broad resonance even despite any particularities of context (e.g. Japan). Any story will have its particularities. To me, the thing that restricts the reach of P5's resonance as a story isn't really the foreignness of its context or anything like that so much as the overwhelming emphasis on youthful rebellion against "shitty adults" in society. It's a story for very young people, whereas P3 is a story for everyone inasmuch as they are mortal.
Firstly, feels so nice to hear someone else mention how they didn't quite think that the MC died at the end of 3, I was so shocked that he had died when I started the answer after picking up FES~ Secondly, I love the comparison with the argument in P3 and in P1 with Mark and Nanjo, really apt comparison Great video :D
You and op make that the only 2 people I know that felt the same as me! I had no clue he was dead until I played The Answer! And I was just like, "My dude's so tired."
yukari haters be like "i hate when the traumatized girl who has trouble getting close to people acts like a traumatized girl who has trouble getting close to people"
I know it's silly, but I decided to stop using the answer outside of puns cause I feel the same way. Episode Aigis is just... I dunno, straight-forward? That's not quite it, but it's the closest I can think of atm.
I'm pretty sure what the characters in the flashback scene about Mitsuru's past are talking about by her 'natural potential' is that while her power was indeed forced upon her and she was forced to learn how to control it, this is how she managed to learn how to control it the natural way, as if she was born with her power when she found her will to fight, which is to protect her father.
AS someone who experienced both P3's main campaign and The Answer for the first time pretty recently (via youtube, I don't have the means to play it myself yet), I honestly cannot imagine Persona 3 *without* The Answer. It felt like a necessary epilogue or final chapter, and it highlights once more how everyone dealñs and copes with death and grieving differently, especially for someone close to them. This isn't the same case as with Shinjiro; everyone from the main party had a close relationship with the protagonist, with Shinjiro, most only got to know him semi-properly for like a month at best?? while the ones truly affected by his death were Akihiko, Mitsuru (more or less) and even Ken. With the protagonist, they all got to know him for over a year, they shared the same living space, they hung out together, they did the SEES thing... It's just not the same. And how everyone reacted felt in character based on what we've seen of them in The Journey. Yukari in particular makes the most sense to me. I wonder if those who dogpile on her remember that she had to recontextualize her father's death 3 TIMES!!! That's not healthy in the slightest, having to re-frame what you knew before and start a new process of grieving. And with the Protag's death being still fresh by the time of The Answer, no wonder she was first coping hard and not thinking about it, distancing herself from the otehrs bcs looking at them would remind her of the past, but then reacted the way she did to having the choice of going back to the past. She was just not grieving properly and probably needed a reminder that she's not alone, that everyone else understand what she's feeling and that they're all in this together. To have Mitsuru be the one to reach out to her, eb enough for Yukari to break down crying, is also both perfect and beautiful. I heard a lot of negative things about The Answer and while I can't give a full analysis of the mode, as I cannot play it yet, storywise it got me to cry, something the main campaign didn't manage to do.
The Answer itself doesn't really imply the protagonist's return. But in P4AU, Elizabeth is in the story and says that she is searching for him. She just happened to get mixed up in the P4 gang and Kagatsuchi's shenanigans.
metis is cute and cool and i believe she deserved better treatment from atlus, why didnt atlus include her in p3 dancing? why wasnt she featured in the persona 25th anniversary merch and promotional art?
I used Metis in all battles because I knew what was coming at the end. She's an awesome party member to have around and though she plays the clingy sister role sometimes, it's when she and Aigis have that conversation after Koro and Junpei's battle that really cemented her as an endearing character and she helped Aigis with her answer which was more valuable than anything else she had done for her before. I love her.
This is easily the best video I've ever seen on The Answer/Episode Aegis. I agree so much with the takes in this video and think the Answer is highly underrated and far from ruins the base game. I like to enjoy it as it's own entity and think it's beautiful as it's own chapter of the saga. Music is really good too, It's neat to see a voiced protagonist for a change (even if it's not my preference), and I adore Aegis, so more of her is always awesome. Don't let people influence how you feel about these games, there's so much hate for every game in this series depending on where you look. In my opinion they are all beautiful games and all some of my favorites. Come to your own conclusions, don't let people stop you from enjoying something you might otherwise love!
I feel like the thing about The Answer Yukari is, that game more or less expects you to take as Protagonist having her SL maxed out. So it would make sense for Yukari to have such strong feelings towards him, it also makes sense that when you have strong and passionate emotions, you sometimes don't want to listen to reason, you just want to follow those emotions, flawed as they may be. Yukari probably feels like if they do go back, there might be a way to save him. If we go with her SL being maxed, it makes sense for her to be like that, if any of us could go back in time and get to fix something that took our dear one, a lot of would probably be willing to take the risk, even if it was to see them just one more time. I actually believe what they did with Yukari was exactly what her character needed. For her to finally have her closure and not cling to regret of losing protag.
And speaking of Yukari, I think that a lot of people forget we aren't neither holy saints nor robots that always base our thoughts and actions by logic, we are *humans* , and as such, not only we are emotional beings by nature, but also the embodiment of imperfection. One of the reasons Yukari is one of my favorite characters ever is because she's the example of a flawed character done right. The most humane character in the series without any room of doubt. PD: The Answer >>>>>>> Third Semester
She isn't though,I think this spot goes to Katsuya from p2 ep. The biggest reason for me is because even though he tried to act with decency most of the time he at points hated his father and younger brother thinking they were responsible for his dreams not being able to become reality,to the point when he was taunted by his shadow he pointed a gun at his brother for a moment. Also despite being a very honest cop he at many points turned his head and played blind letting some out of the law things to take place because he let his emotions talk louder than reason when he felt anger. His shadow also said he felt jealous of his brother because he loved Maya. And despite of all that he admited he felt that way. There's nothing more humane to me than someone who despite trying to be good can't really be like that 100%of the time.
She’s a teenager guys she misses her boyfriend she would have ended the world just to be with him it’s true love not some romance in high school she did it to be with him no matter what she understood and accepted her death and die on his arms which i think is sweet and she’s like her mother crying for help and yukari did the right thing she let go and helped her mom and moved on but remember him forever
Yeah, I think what bothered people a lot was the 1-2 combination of Yukari not being waifubait and her English VA making her enraged to the point of being OOC. It's a damn shame because she's a complete character that stands out as a shining example of good characterization in a series that is otherwise filled with clichés on the writing front. Easily my favourite character alongside Aigis.
Complex and unusual doesn't equal good. The game never calls out Yukari for being a hypocrite when she attacks other people for what she also does. She literally mocks junpei about being scared while they're waiting for their inevitable death from nyx and for MOURNING HIS GIRLFRIEND after her supposed character development . Her sl is her not empathizing at all with her mom for years and failing to understand that she isn't the only one that feels bad. She slaps mitsuru when she's mourning and tells her to get her shit together while she never did. And the answer has her disregarding what other people feel once more risking the entire fucking world. Her circumstances don't justify her actions and the game should say that outloud instead of letting her go on so many things. Yukari is pretty much the beta Chloe from life is strange, an unempathic ass that only thinks about herself and fails to see what everyone else thinks unless it's regarding herself (her attempts at being the stereotypical popular girl to get attention), and that ends up being on one side of a world/city ending tradeoff. I gladly let Chloe die because she was never acknowledged as bad and kept blaming max for everything, getting angry even if she just talked to someone else on the phone for a second, and started romancing her to manipulate her better. All that connects her to max and "justifies" her being a bitch is her backstory. But that's not how it works. You can be pitied but not excused of your faults due to circumstances. Yukari is perfect for makoto tho, the guy that gives the worst advice to everyone and fucks every single girl to then sacrifice himself and avoid responsibility in some school days type shit. Yukari is just a shitty asuka.
@UChxrnrsCRRUWfv3r09cgjoA she is literally an asuka ripoff are you fucking stupid to say she isn't a cliché? She is the redhead tsundere with mommy issues that has an odd relationship with the headphones wearing emo boy (and the boy meets kaworu with scarf). P3 is half eva ripoff, 25% shitty barely explained writing and 25% good. Aigis your favorite character? The rei clone with the personality of a loaf of bread that has nothing but "I like mc and become human" to her? There's so many better robots in anime, she's robotic in comparison to OTHER ROBOTS!
What I got from Persona 3 in its entirety is that it's a story about dealing with loss. All the Persona users have/were going to lose someone close to them in the game, then awakened to their ultimate persona after they "proved" that they could deal with that very loss. Mitsuru lost her dad and awakened Artemisia, Akihiko lost Shinji and awakened Caesar, Yukari got closure on her dad and awakened Isis, Fuuka's friend Natsuki moved out and she awakened Juno. The point of the Answer is to test their ability to cope with another loss, this time the loss of someone extremely close to _all_ of them. When this occurred, _all_ our team members had to cope with that grief _again,_ and every one of them had to rethink how they cope with grief and loss when the person who died was one of the people who helped them the first time around.
It's nice when you find someone who takes a level headed, deeper than surface level look at something instead of just defaulting to "Thing Bad, Make No Sense, Me Smarter Than This". Great video. :)
Personally from a character development side of things P3 and The Answer are masterpieces when you are able to piece things together like how in the base game yukari was carrying emotional trauma but when minato came along he was able to get her to open up her feelings, get her back on good terms with her mom and got her to fall in love with him. But when he died instead of facing the pain head on she tries to put a mask to hide that emotional trauma and only wanted to see him again by going back in time to before they fought nyx which would endanger the world. After she realised that Aigis was the only one to use the Key all that emotional trauma consumed her. It's kind of an inverse of Aigis where with Aigis she wanted to got back to being a machine as minato was the only thing that drove her to become more human than machine but yukari put on a mask and decided it was best to blame everyone. It kinda shows that we as humans aren't perfect. It's not perfect but to me it just feels right. In a series full of clichés story arcs like this stand out and it isn't necessarily a bad thing
32:07 - This is why dislike "video gaming community" as a whole. To the general public, games are either GOTY or trash, and there's nothing else. And god forbid you like something that is not masterpiece. Game XYZ has a bad opinion online yet you still like it? "No! This is masterpiece people just don't know any better!" Game ZYX is just good but you don't like it? "No! This game is masterpiece and you're an idiot for not liking it!"
I liked The Answer. Not the fact that's its separate and it starts from scratch and hard but the story itself. Aigis being the center and the team getting some closure was nice for me. I do not think it ruined it at all. I do not think it undermines anything. I finished P3 Portable not long ago and then moved on to The Answer. Gonna replay the female protag then try FES to compare. I've played 4G and 5R and something about 3 just resonates with me. I want an HD remaster that combines stuff from Portable and FES. I do prefer the direct commands in 3p. I agree I would like to see a bad end
When looking at The Answer now, I think the single biggest problem isn't necessarily the characterization, but rather the stakes. The reason everyone hates The Answer's Yukari is due to her irrationality in the face of such potentially drastic consequences is the primary reason why. Not only that, but the fact is, they didn't know what caused his death. Ken's theory is that he sacrificed himself (which is what happened), but even then, they still should've tried finding out why he died before they went back to discuss. If you're wondering how they would've known, they could either ask Metis or have Aigis pull it out of her ass like she does in the final game. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk, have a nice day.
Not to mention, she didn't hesitate to do the battles and grab the key by force even if it meant that she will probably take Aigis' life. Like the group lost two members and she wants to take one more!?
I saw all the people complaining about The Answer and basically imploring others not to play it but a while after finishing The Journey, the ending kept playing in my mind. Yes, the protagonist fulfilled his purpose, found the answer and died in peace, but I'm not him. I missed him and the friends he left behind. I gave The Answer a try and found the uninterrupted dungeon crawling tedious. Just like I did in The Journey. I didn't care, so I pushed though. I was there for the story and it was exactly what I needed. I loved it to bits. In my mind, the only subpar point is how they force the Coliseum arc but I didn't mind since the payoff was so unpredictable and moving. The resolution of the ending made me glad I didn't listen to those loud mouths and played for myself
The Biggest issue I had with this "expansion". Was that all my hard work leveling up my party members. Ended completely ignored with a throwaway line. 'Ohh I've been trained in a while, so I'm a little rusty.'
@@planetbumble5060 You'd be surprised. Muscle memory is a thing but there's a reason why athletes go to practice first a couple times instead of jumping right into an actual game when coming back from an injury.
The Answer is, in my opinion, the most impactful Persona re-release addition up 'till now. Accepting that your own life will end -the Journey's main message, is easier than accepting that other's lives will also end, sometimes without any apparent reasoning -The Answer's main message. I think that it's a perfect continuation, story-wise, to that of the Journey.
My only issue was that not much really happened until like, the end. Some of the bosses had stuff that caught me off guard too, sometimes they just felt impossible, but I guess that just means it felt good to finally beat them. Still really liked the story overall though. It's a good experience if you're willing to tough out some of the crazier boss stuff.
With the seeds planted by P4 Arena and P4 Margaret Boss Fight alone (Though I personally think the Answer ties into this and planted some seeds as well), it does seem ATLUS may bring Makoto back one day. And honestly, I am personally fine with it, as it would be great for Elizabeth's story (And honestly, part of me does want Makoto to see Aigis and the others again). I am really glad that you brought up the point that at the end of the day, nothing will change what Persona 3 itself is. The messages presented in the game will forever be part of it's experience and it will live on forever. One thing a lot of people forget is the fact that the spinoffs/crossovers are just expansions of the main games. While canon, they are not meant to be the main experience. I look at it like the mainline Persona games are the original 6 Star Wars films, while everything else is the Expanded Universe (This example is going off of the Legends continuity). Who knows, maybe I am crazy. Regardless, I am glad you defended the good parts of the Answer. It definitely is not perfect, but the amount of good stuff in it that is ignored can be frustrating. You have definitely earned a sub. Thank you
I have played the journey both in FES and Portable around 4 times. Only last week did I finally give the answer a try because of all the negative things i heard online and finding other games to enjoy. Really glad I did.
I personally don't have a problem with the answer in terms of its messages and what it tries to deal the only thing I don't like is how hard and grindy is because not everyone has that kind of time or patience if it had difficulty settings and played a little more like how persona 3 portable in terms of Combat in the options it might be better
Now, I’m barely into the answer at all, and it’s hell playing it, I took a 4 month break from the game and it’s feeling a bit easier but it is hell. I will say I am loving the story so far
I'm pretty sure that later on in the story, there was a dialogue of Mitsuru talking about her awakening, which is during an accident involving Shadow, and that definetly fits with what the Answer showed us That text is either a translation error or it could be an early writing that was forgotten, kinda reminds me of how they introduced Fuuka, Akihiko dropped in and and said a certain Fuuka Yamagishi has the potential, but then no one proceeds to talk about that even when they realized that the mysterious incidents are related to her
Yess finally a review that doesn't completely despise the Answer! P3 FES was my first persona game back in middle school, and I happened to have been struggling with TW: suic**al thoughts at that time. The message in the Answer especially was extremely profound for me and helped a lot to get me through those dark times. Brand New Days is still my ringtone when it's not on silent lol
1/29, everyone together playing in the Shrine is one of the few reasons I think FES is better than Portable. It's impossible to show this scene there, they never drawn every cutscene as CGs for the Portable, you can only read what is happening, and it's not as fun as watching what is happening.
Thank you for properly covering the answer and it’s brilliant story and mechanics BubbleTea. Personally I think the game is for those who loved P3 and to see disregarded for such asinine reasons is genuinely heartbreaking. And it’s even worse to me that Reload doesn’t pay honour to that legacy.
Now this, is an opinion, that I can agree with. Nicely done with your arguments. To me, the battles in The Answer / Episode Aegis, were some of my favorites in the Persona series as a whole.
You know looking back many of the P3 fans either misunderstand or hate this ending. Then come to find out people hate the fact this wasn’t or might not be apart of P3 Reload. And people constantly got on Yukari for the way she acted, yet no one ever took a step back to realize why she acted the way she did.She was grieving, they all were but to Yukari all she wanted was a normal life, grew up with a terrible mother and dead father and found a friend just like her that being the MC. The MC himself lost his parents and was grieving himself created distant from people until his experience with the group changed him. He was hurting and Yukari knew how that felt, that’s why his death hit hard for her. Not to mention how Junpei and Ken both matured over the course of the base game. And we’re the level headed characters this time around. And that’s just them Mitsuru is another who basically supported Yukari like she did for her dad way back then. Some P3 fans will never be happy and it sucks how bad this ending gets hated on.
I find it funny how most people who love The Answer are also people who bear how bad it was. So thank you to the people who didn't like Persona 3: The Answer. You helped me love it. It's flawed but it strengthens Persona 3's main story and gives us closer for those the main character left behind
I actually like the Answer people cry about the characters being dicks/selfish but wouldn't that make sense since you know they're dealing with grief?!
Huge Persona 3 fan here. I hopped on the series back when it was up to Persona 4. I always let everyone on the crew act freely even now. I've played through Persona 3 FES and 4 probably like eleven times due to how much I love the games and the crews of friends to the point of hundred percent completing those games and I did the dame for Persona 5 and I'm currently working on Golden (I'm close) Royal and Reload. I stomped all enemies in Persona 3 in both The Journey and Episode Aiges and brought down all the Velvet sisters, (haven't fought Theo) I never complained and enjoyed whatever the games threw at me. If you're weak then it's like Saitama said to King, "get strong". 😄
Your ultimate message in this, don't let others dictate your opinions, is something I've been saying for years, and I love it when someone else echoes the sentiment. I've heard mixed opinions on the Answer, but I respect your analysis of it and I'm glad I watched it. Good video, suffice to say!
I'll be very very honest, at the end of yhe game the thought never crossed my mind that he died. I didn't even see how it was possible. I got that he eas tired, but honestly I didn't think anything of it since during your play that would happen of you ever over did things which i had assumed he did. So when I started The Answer it broke my heart to learn we lost him. It was even more painful when as your progressed you see his shade moving ahead of you and your chasing him, only to encounter he reflection near the end. It was powerful and it was more then I could have asked or expected to for a continuation. I wish, as do many, that the Answer could be a love letter that our friend isn't gone forever and that one day he could return. Considering what he did it is possible, but it would be hard.
I only know the answer story from the videos that shits on it, and I think I still likes the story. Everybody shits on Yukari for being a bitch, but isn't that the point of the story. She's kind of a bitch before meeting the protagonist and then grew up because of him, it would make the most sense that she's falling back on that when the protagonist goes door-ing. And it would also make sense that Mitsuru the one that stick with Yukari, her relationship and feelings with door-kun is identical to Yukari. Only difference is she's clear headed person with more responsibilities.
I was trying to recall what song you used for the opening of this video and it was haunting me, but I finally remembered!! It's Jitterdoll!! I heard that song all the way back in 2013!!! (And then listened to it on repeat WAY too many times)
I had a lot of fun with the answer, admittedly I did use save states every floor so that made it a bit easier. But it was a fun challenge after beating The Journey And I really loved the plot too. It was nice getting more backstory for everyone. And the characters' grief felt realistic and sad to me and I wanted to know what exactly happened to the protagonist just as much as they did. If I was in that argument at the end, I would've also aggressively dogpiled on Yukari for choosing to make us fight Nyx again and I would've added to the group's problem. Even though the execution of the argument was a bit forced, I think it was a good story beat that showed us how these characters are emotionally trying to handle this choice that's been thrust on them. And fighting all the party members was pretty cool too I understand that not everyone enjoyed the answer, but I'm glad I played it 🙂
Most of The Answer's haters were just trend followers that weren't called out on their bullshit when the iron was hot....so most of the complaints being regurgurated became "facts" when it reality most of them begun with one whiner misunderstanding the story and characters and people just hopping onto the bandwagon. When you see people recite the same tired arguments word for word you know most of their information are second hand.
@@bubbletea_ It's kinda the same with Mitsuru's Marin Karin meme...It started with a bunch of whiners not understanding the game mechanics and not knowing you can easily control Mitsuru's AI behavour with a simple change in commands...and it spread like wild fire among people. Honestly, I'd suggest you make a video about the Marin Karin meme and how ridiculous it is XP
@@Miyakolover it's so messed up how most people don't like the tactics just because of the Marin Karin meme. The tactics are great and it's not gonna kill you for no reason.
@@Enzed_ The problem is we have alot of "gamers" in the gaming community as opposed to actual gamers....basically people that "game" through watching playthroughs than actually playing the games themselves. So most of their information are second hand knowledge and they want to look like actual gamers, so they just try to keep up with trends and memes just to look knowledgable on a certain game. The whole Mitsuru Marin Karin thing is one of those things that got blown out of proportions and people think Persona 3 has "bad AI" when in reality it was more like the ineptness of some people not understanding the tactics system and how to control your party...but instead of getting called out on in by gamers..."gamers" helped popularizing that meme.
FINALLY, someone i feel enjoyed the gameplay as much as i did. The Answer boss fights are so much fun, honestly. The need to strategize is more present in 30 hours here than along the 130 hours it took me to beat The Journey, and it made The Answer's combat so much fun.
I personally enjoyed The Answer, first playthrough at least. The story was the only interesting part of it too me so already knowing the plot kind of made it into the dungeon crawling drag that occurs between the moments.
The Answer has some cool parts, like fighting against Shadow Protagonist and the past of all the characters. I think the message is to take the lessons of the past to make a better future, and that's nice. On the other hand the "Civil War" part (motivations and the fact that Aigis has to battle everyone) is fucking bullcrap and Metis the most annoying character ever. Of course this is just an opinion told like an undisputed fact. If you liked the Answer, amazing, I wish I liked it.
Tbh i think i have an explanation why erebus might be intentionally easy Because the whole team now have their answers they get over the protagonists death and can defeat their erebus very easily (or you just farmed too luch lol)
I like your video for backing up your points, and giving good reasons. That being said, I strongly disagree the Answer is good. The game starts you off with a emo edgy teenager who doesn't care about living, but over time, learns that there's more to life than just being born and then dying. You have experiences and challenges along the way and have memories than define who you are and what you leave behind. When the protagonist realizes this, and after being a good friend to those around him, he realizes he has to sacrifice himself to save everyone. The point of the main game was that life is fragile, but worth protecting for the memories and people that are affected by you. Having the character face literal death, only to just be a door lock doesn't support the game that life is fragile, and at the end of the day everyone has a happy ending. That's not how life is, and tragic and bad stuff can happen along with happy and memorable moments. Aigis's whole character was that even a machine can learn to appreciate life, because life is beautiful, and not everyone can have it. I understand you like the Answer, and I'm not telling you to change it. For me personally, as someone who had an older brother die from brain cancer a couple of years back who barely got to see his daughter born, having the ending be "He's not dead but guarding everyone." is a half ass ending on what death is. Death was a major part of the story, and I think the protagonist to die only to reveal he was a door lock doesn't fit the theme of death in the game. That being said, thank you for going in depth with your video and pointing out your reasons
@@redhood7778 "The game starts you off with a emo edgy teenager who doesn't care about living, but over time, learns that there's more to life than just being born and then dying" That's the anime, not the game. in the game the protagonist is a blank slate whose personality is dependant on you. If anything, direct tie-in material paints him as a much more light-hearted, while still dismissive, character. The anime is what went ham-wire and made him into "an emo edgy teenager"
@@redhood7778 Ok, cool. his design being edgy doesn't mean anything about his character, which is my whole point. The character you described is the one in the anime, not in the game
Yukari takeba really liked the protagonist and I'm pretty sure she mentions that the protagonist made a promise to go with her to see her family or its probably a social link thing
All I want to know is if Elizabeth was successful with freeing his soul. Hopefully in the next persona (Not persona 3 reload) they give us some answers or something
in persona 3 fes, i chose to let nyx win when it came to making that choice. better to go out without fear, then wait for a fight i dont know if i could win.
My main problem with Episode Aigis is that it’s best experienced with The Journey still fairly fresh in your mind. Playing it after taking a break from P3FES for a while didn’t help me, but playing it again right after New Game Plus made it really feel like an answer. It still has it’s flaws but playing it after a break felt like trying to watch season 2 of a story-driven TV show after forgetting what happened in season 1.
30:36 - Idk, but to me it doesn't sound like it's necessarily a contradiction. They had their "potencial" given to them, but Mitsuru had natural potencial to use that "potencial" she was given... But idk
11:33 I used koromaru ken and metis and never any other cuz my god Koromaru carried me with crits and metis orgia mode abuse I enjoyed answer bosses more than journey bosses
This reminds me how P4 ultimax shows Elizabeth is saving the world every few yrs and SEES don't even kinda don't and do like that plot point. Since I like Elizabeth trying to saving P3 protagonist is kinda neat
I actually though the end was rushed and could´ve been adressed better, like have a scene like the ending one just after the miracle, then show makoto slowly dying down during the coming month, and show a little better how everyone "forgot" about the promise. then that last day, just show him slowly dying. Having all that chat about protecting him forever while he was dying is what feels off.
I know people will give me hate for that, but I enjoyed the answer more than the regular story because it went straight to the point,no social links. Maybe because I played persona 2 eternal punishment first before playing P3 and the answer is kinda in the same style.
@@ratedjoke2306 I enjoyed collecting cards and contacting demons way more than being forced to listened to people I don't give a shit because of the social links ultimate persona. Seriously, some where insuferable. Moon, emperor and magician comes to mind. I like grinding, feeling powerful and have all my people be at high level to explore their full potential. So exploring tartarus in 3 and tv world in 4 was way more enjoyable for me than the other 90% of the game. The answer was amazing for me for that reason. Not getting tired after exploring the abyss, hard battles, amazing soundtrack and that moment when the team splits and it all becomes like a battle royale really sold me it all. If you wanna call garbage something I'm playing since its release fine,it's your opinion. But I have the same right of calling out the dating sim aspects of the newer games.
As someone who started playing Perona games, currently playing P3P on the vita. I check thinking of playing the answer but have no good emulator to play, so thanks for this video of explaining the parts of The Answer. I may or not give it a go in the future, unless I need save data to transfer to the answer story mode to make things easier-ish.
Eah, The Answer truly is Misunderstood. If people yearn for death, it means that life is evil, not death. If the world is evil, we should not grieve its ending. There is no reason to assume that the protagonist wanted to die. There was no option to continue living for him. He chose to protect people that he cared about from immediate danger. But in the Answer those people did have a choice. They were strong enough to beat Erebus every time he raised his ugly heads. But they chose not to because it was more convenient for them. They condemned their savior for eternal torture. Don’t you think that the final death for him would be merciful? But we cannot have mercy in our evil world, can we.
I won't be playing this game as I stopped playing Persona 5 before it actually started ( the money guy was the last boss I believe I fought), but I do so love the thoughts and opinions of others. I love to see how they perceive things and what they find enjoyable or not out of the content that they consume. I especially find it enjoyable when someone can clearly articulate what it is exactly that they like or dislike about something. Your script writing is pretty darn great. kudos.
I remember playing this for the first time and holding on to Orpheus the entire playthrough after I realized there was no compendium until I was able to get Thanatos to fuse them into Messiah.
I fused messiah. And I knew from the description my boy wasn’t making it out. I didn’t expect him to be strung up like that. Honestly the most beautiful game I’ve played in a minute. The story is probably up there in terms of characters and the sage and symbolism sprinkled in there. My only complain and it’s the same with the other persona games it’s just the grind part starts to drive me crazy.
They totally missed the opportunity to have you choose to side with Yukari and use the key for that to explain why New Game+ exists!!! I always thought about why new game+ exists I usually figured it was the protag's way to cope with his new reality he just replayed the world again, thinking maybe if I was stronger this time I could save them and survive. But he'd never be strong enough to do so. I guess I always felt that way with my own little head canon but it would have been so interesting if they just explained why a time loop exists.
hey, you may have noticed a couple abrupt cuts towards the end. my channel is kind of undergoing a transformation, so i had to do a few retcons here and there. thanks for watching!

I actually like the answer
Funny thing that Yukari haters harp on Yukari "not respecting the sacrifice of the MC" in the Answer...when in reality no one knew the cause of death for the MC nor knew that he sacrificed himself to save everyone...and only when Yukari knew about in near the end she truly understood the wrongs of her actions.
That's what trend following gets you.
@Vagelis Douliakas What Ken said at that moment was just what he believed...that doesn't automatically confirms that's exactly what happened (I mean, we as the audience know because we saw it, but the characters still don't.)
@@Miyakolover Thank you for understanding.
Ken literally says that the MC sacrificed himself to save everyone BEFORE Yukari went ape shiz
@@Mavuika_GyaruAlready replied to that point before, Ken was only stating what he believed, none of them knew for sure what happened to the MC while inside Nyx.
@@Miyakolover if Ken can figure that out and Yukari can't then she's really dumb
THANK YOU! Everyone is so quick to call out Yukari but nobody wants to call out the fact that Akihiko was acting like a complete ass.

Clearly.
I literally loved the answer so much bec as a teen who took the protags death personally, i too wanted to see them handle their grief and be happy

Dealing with loss and letting go of your past.
The worse thing is that this isn't the first time Yukari dealt with losing a loved one
@@Myrmiddonn People really forget even her reason to go through the entire thing was even in the main story (Ive sadly seen someone's P3R Playthrough and just outright hates yukari cause of her behavior and the slap to the MC, stupid reasons. Then in yakushima instead of being understanding he literally goes the "okay go away forever now" route...)
Yet when Junpei gets annoying AF with his envious jealousy over being tje "big boi leader" nobody bats an eye. (I like both characters, each deals with their stuff).
i find yukari to be the most layered and well-written character in persona 3. she’s been through a lot her entire life, the death of her father and basically being the emotional rock of her grieving mother, while maintaining the facade of a seemingly normal high school student
honestly a lot of it boils down to the demographic. a part of the playerbase can’t fathom mature storytelling and/or accurate portrayals of grief and just women in general (let’s be real most mega weebs have incel tendencies). they just want their “waifus” to not be “ruined” by story beats that are thematically in line with what the game is trying to say
Firstly, feels so nice to hear someone else mention how they didn't quite think that the MC died at the end of 3, I was so shocked that he had died when I started the answer after picking up FES~

i also thought riceballs were cooler than jelly-filled donuts, but that didn't stop pokemon.
Wtf is this episode metal from sonic 4
I know it's silly, but I decided to stop using the answer outside of puns cause I feel the same way. Episode Aigis is just... I dunno, straight-forward? That's not quite it, but it's the closest I can think of atm.
I guess, but The Answer makes too much sense as to why it's called that.
But is the answer the truth that’s the question
I cant even consider P3’s story concluded without the Answer.
Same lol
Didn't read them all but not a single comment about Metis! Really! Am I the only one is like "I really liked her! She was cool."
metis is cute and cool and i believe she deserved better treatment from atlus, why didnt atlus include her in p3 dancing? why wasnt she featured in the persona 25th anniversary merch and promotional art?
She's alright. Labrys is better by a country mile though.
Koromaru got mega buffed in P3P
he gets good damage, buffs, and is almost immortal.
His Mudo skills hit more than mines do on fes
Koromaru evasive goes vroooom
Always nice to see someone who understands The Answer.
I agree I would like to see a bad end
..
Whole team forgot a years worth of training in am month
Thank you
or at the very least fight against the p3 team joining in with elizabeth to put the mc soul to rest but your team would proceed to stop them
Well, of course it's going to be easy to kill something that's the literal personification of the desire to die
Nice finally someone that atcually like the answer
I liked it a lot too
Me too.
I always liked it and called out those who hated it for having dumb reasons (atleast storywise).
I have played the journey both in FES and Portable around 4 times. Only last week did I finally give the answer a try because of all the negative things i heard online and finding other games to enjoy. Really glad I did.
I personally don't have a problem with the answer in terms of its messages and what it tries to deal
the only thing I don't like is how hard and grindy is because not everyone has that kind of time or patience
if it had difficulty settings and played a little more like how persona 3 portable in terms of Combat in the options it might be better
Now, I’m barely into the answer at all, and it’s hell playing it, I took a 4 month break from the game and it’s feeling a bit easier but it is hell. I will say I am loving the story so far
Did not realise how well jitter doll fit with the answer's opening cutscene until now
WAIT HOW DO THE CUTSCENES LOOK SO GOOD THOUGH
I remastered them with A.I.
@@bubbletea_ so it's a post recording thing and not in the actual game?
@@LckD008 yea ofc
@@bubbletea_ Witchcraft!
This game is so polarizing it seems. I liked FES.
I'm pretty sure that later on in the story, there was a dialogue of Mitsuru talking about her awakening, which is during an accident involving Shadow, and that definetly fits with what the Answer showed us
That text is either a translation error or it could be an early writing that was forgotten, kinda reminds me of how they introduced Fuuka, Akihiko dropped in and and said a certain Fuuka Yamagishi has the potential, but then no one proceeds to talk about that even when they realized that the mysterious incidents are related to her
I liked the answer it has some good character development
Oh god it's back in September! Yukari has been getting so much praise now and it's gonna die all over again isn't it!? 😭
I actually likes Yukari as a characters, she does take a while to warm up to MC but she dies end up really caring for him as a Real friend would
This recommended after DLC Aigis: The Answer will be later this year for P3R is a great new
my initial thoughts on persona 3 were really harsh upon first playing so much so i didn't bother playing the answer. this is making me reconsider
I love your videos man, great writing and editing
thank you 🙏
1/29, everyone together playing in the Shrine is one of the few reasons I think FES is better than Portable.
_>Reload doesn't pay honour to that legacy._
We'll see about that, come September 2024 or so...
I'm in no way an expert, but maybe the scientist was talking about Mitsuru's natural potential in wielding a persona?
9:18 that yukari sprite got me feelin some type of way
I actually like the Answer people cry about the characters being dicks/selfish but wouldn't that make sense since you know they're dealing with grief?!
But it was a fun challenge after beating The Journey
And I really loved the plot too.
And fighting all the party members was pretty cool too
I understand that not everyone enjoyed the answer, but I'm glad I played it 🙂
Thanks for rebutting those people who don't think it's possible to be obsessed with your own past.
Most of The Answer's haters were just trend followers that weren't called out on their bullshit when the iron was hot....so most of the complaints being regurgurated became "facts" when it reality most of them begun with one whiner misunderstanding the story and characters and people just hopping onto the bandwagon.
When you see people recite the same tired arguments word for word you know most of their information are second hand.
based take
@@bubbletea_ It's kinda the same with Mitsuru's Marin Karin meme...It started with a bunch of whiners not understanding the game mechanics and not knowing you can easily control Mitsuru's AI behavour with a simple change in commands...and it spread like wild fire among people.
Writing in answer sucks donkey ass even by low standards set up by persona 3
FINALLY, someone i feel enjoyed the gameplay as much as i did. The Answer boss fights are so much fun, honestly. The need to strategize is more present in 30 hours here than along the 130 hours it took me to beat The Journey, and it made The Answer's combat so much fun.
I personally enjoyed The Answer, first playthrough at least. The story was the only interesting part of it too me so already knowing the plot kind of made it into the dungeon crawling drag that occurs between the moments.
Man what a great video and a great channel, I hope your channel blows up
The Answer has some cool parts, like fighting against Shadow Protagonist and the past of all the characters.
While I get it's just your opinion as you stated...I am kinda curious about the reasoning behind them.
Idk the civil war part i thought was amazing and it made complete sense
I’ve always considered The Answer to be a good pleb filter
Fantastic video, I really loved your closing message about making experiences your own and not being controlled by what others say, really great stuff
Such. A. Based. Chad.
Thank you for this marvelous Video.
Tbh i think i have an explanation why erebus might be intentionally easy
Because the whole team now have their answers they get over the protagonists death and can defeat their erebus very easily (or you just farmed too luch lol)
I always thought he was in a coma because he is blocking Nyx, and I never thought he physically died. Never played the answer.
love this analysis and your critique of youtube game analysis culture lol. shit gets toxic quick.
The game isn't the anime bro
@@chronica6457 I've never seen the anime
@@redhood7778 "The game starts you off with a emo edgy teenager who doesn't care about living, but over time, learns that there's more to life than just being born and then dying"
That's the anime, not the game. in the game the protagonist is a blank slate whose personality is dependant on you. If anything, direct tie-in material paints him as a much more light-hearted, while still dismissive, character. The anime is what went ham-wire and made him into "an emo edgy teenager"
@@chronica6457 Hate to tell you this, but he came straight out of a My Chemical Romance concert with that haircut
Social Link
All I want to know is if Elizabeth was successful with freeing his soul. Hopefully in the next persona (Not persona 3 reload) they give us some answers or something
In P5A there will be some clue. Soon, this year.
14:37 Man junpei calling me out rn
in persona 3 fes, i chose to let nyx win when it came to making that choice. better to go out without fear, then wait for a fight i dont know if i could win.
I thought time stops for no one?
P2 and P2two already does the choice circle so that might be why they didn’t in p3
Really nice video man. I can tell you put a lot of thought into this. You’ve earned yourself a thoroughly deserved subscriber.
THE WAY THIS STARTED WITH JITTER DOLL WAS PERFECT
Bro, did the cutscenes in the game always look so HD
30:36 - Idk, but to me it doesn't sound like it's necessarily a contradiction. They had their "potencial" given to them, but Mitsuru had natural potencial to use that "potencial" she was given... But idk
if they ever bring him back itll be at the end of the series if they decide that humanity has become strong enough to actually conquer death
Great video man, but you made a joke at Persona 4's expense so CRINGE!
I make fun of it a lot, but I like Persona 4. I'll make a video on that too some day.
11:33 I used koromaru ken and metis and never any other cuz my god Koromaru carried me with crits and metis orgia mode abuse
I enjoyed answer bosses more than journey bosses
Persona 2 gameplay is absolute garbage
@@ratedjoke2306 I enjoyed collecting cards and contacting demons way more than being forced to listened to people I don't give a shit because of the social links ultimate persona.
Seriously,some where insuferable.
Play a mainline SMT game, it could probably fit your style :D
the Answer is directly inspired by SMT If..., and it is the best Persona game imo.
Your script writing is pretty darn great. kudos.
Man I just saw this and I’m excited
I remember playing this for the first time and holding on to Orpheus the entire playthrough after I realized there was no compendium until I was able to get Thanatos to fuse them into Messiah.
2:21 This video may be a year old but i am now in the exact same situation after i just finished Persona 3 a few days ago lmfao
