I love the break column and detail, it looks fantastic. I was scared to stick with single-piece axleboxes, was that a design choice or following the drawings? The white and red looks very fetching. Thank you for the video.
Thanks mate, yeah I stuck to LBSC's guidance for the axle-boxes. This is only a small locomotive and once finished in reality is unlikely to do many hours of hard work at the track. Solid axle-boxes will do the job fine I think. My only concern with them is that the clearances in the horns, both pony truck and tender trucks are small and the axle-boxes may jam up on bumpy track. I may relieve them a little more so that I have plenty of clearance. Thanks for your comments on the paint job, those early American style 4-4-0's had beautiful bright paint schemes which I'm trying to replicate.
Looks amazing, 1 question for you. On the axles where the wheel meets to the axle do you have a broach holding it or a set screw? Just curious. Keep up the great work.
G'day, as yet the wheels are not fixed to the axles. I still need to do quite a bit of work until I'm ready for that. When I get to that point, will likely use Loctite or a similar adhesive. The clearances have been machined for that method which is quite common with these models now. Cheers.
G'day Anthony, I have just moved house (and countries!), most of my workshop is still packed away. I will pull out my Virginia parts and will see what I can do for you....
@@DustInOz76 Did you ever finish the Tank for the engine. I have finished the locomotive and just on with the tender but having a lot of trouble forming the tank
@@anthonycliffe555 I haven't started the tank yet. Maybe I should tackle that next. Will pull out the drawings this weekend and have a look. I have all the material ready and cut to size.
Sweet looking locomotive. Can't wait for another episode. Thank you.
Thanks Pete, next video up will be the beginning of the boiler construction. Cheers.
Looking good! The paint came out great on those parts!
Thanks mate, yeah I was quite happy with the end result. Onto the boiler next...
Compared to what I thought building a tender would be like this is pretty simple. The machinery you need may be my primary roadblock 😀
Yes, LBSC's designs were developed for ease of construction and minimal tooling. 'Virginia' particularly so.

@@DustInOz76 Thanks for the reply, keep up the great work.
Any chance you could continue with the tender build and show more pictures of the braking mechanism as I am at this stage

I think either 1/32 scale or 3.5” gauge is what im gonna build mine on.
