    As a rail enthusiast I would recommend it as the loco that halls you in Paddington or Penzance is a class 57 which was converted from a class 47 but if you going down for a day or more take the GWR IET down

    Fun fact - The older half of the GWR First Class customer lounge at London's Paddington Station is actually Queen Victoria's private Waiting Room, also used subsequently by her son King Edward VII! Perhaps you should have travelled down to Cornwall on one of the two daily GWR trains which offer Pullman Dining in the 18-seater Restaurant Car as far as Plymouth? Your experience would have been completely different and so much better. Open to Standard ticket holders if space is available, which it almost always is.

    Caledonian Sleeper: **sad train noises**

  • @SSccaanniiaa
    @SSccaanniiaa 2 месяца назад +6

    Looks absolutely amazing what you guys went on there and back from Penzance! 🤩
    But I must say, the Caledonian Sleeper is way better than the Night Riviera! All though the GWR Sleeper has old stock coaches which are Mk3, and which you can slam the doors shut, and that they have old diesels that tow it to Penzance, the Caledonian Sleeper has more upgraded coaches which are Mk5. And they have different types of coaches, from normal sitting seats, to kings size bed coaches! Its hauled by electric trains which haul you up to Edinburgh in the night and the train splits in 3, so ⅓ goes to Inverness, another goes to Fort William, and the other half goes to Aberdeen! And your on for about 11 hours from London Euston to Fort William, Aberdeen or Inverness! 😂 But I'd reccomend it as its wonderful! 🙂

    It is one of THREE sleeper trains. The other two are the Lowlander and the Highlander, both operating out of Euston to Scotland.

    • @liviajumara6423
      @liviajumara6423 2 месяца назад

      technically, that is true however, they are both operated by the same company (Caladonian Sleeper (run by the Scottish government)) with the same locos and coaches and the only differences are the times of arrival/ departure and destinations. Also both the highlander and lowlander are formed by different sub-serveces. The highlander runs as a single train between Euston and Edinburgh and splits at Edinburgh with services going to Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William and the lowlander runs as a single train between Carstairs and Euston splitting at Carstairs and services go to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

    GWR first class is awful. Always stock up in the lounge before you leave, always bring your own food as they don't serve anything - lucky if you get a sandwich most of the time. The ticket price is NEVER worth it unless you get a Seatfrog upgrade or on-train upgrade at the weekend (useful when its busy... until they declassify the train!)

    Apparently, you didn't get the full benefit of first class on the way down because it was a weekend. I've not seen many reviews of this sleeper, but those those that took the sleeper to Scotland had mixed opinions. The noise and the motions of the cars keep some people awake. On the other hand, the staff are very helpful and friendly.

    GWR even during the week is awful for first class... barely any food at all, especially in comparison to LNER and Avanti. The experience is dire compared to the HSTs that used to run the route with the leather chairs and full buffet.

    the night riviera uses mk3 coaches, which are nearly 50 years old, whereas the GWR IET is 7 years old
    i personally do everything i can to avoid the GWR IETs as they are simply a poor excuse for a train
    for standard class i would rather just stand, and for first its bareable but nothing compared to a lot of other trains in the uk
    the ride quality on the GWR IET is shambolic, almost as if theres no suspention whatsoever, their reliability is very questionable and the build quality is factually poor, every unit is suffering from high levels of invasive corrosion, not to mention the entire fleet had to be taken out of service as cracks were discovered on them
    i've travelled on a lot of IETs and GWRs are by far the worst, do not recommend, best way to get to cornwall is via night riviera, or you could get SWR to exeter and get a train to penzance from there
