- Love blooms in this spirited new telling of Donizetti’s evergreen rom-com, from the director of SO: On Screen’s Così fan tutte.
What hope does a poor gardener have? None, in the romantic jungle of Regency England. Or so it would seem. Naïve young Nemorino adores Adina (who also happens to be his boss). Adina, wealthy and sophisticated, barely notices his existence. Enter Dulcamara - travelling salesman extraordinaire - and his miraculous ‘elixir of love’! But will it be magic, or a more natural kind of chemistry altogether, that finally brings this oddly-matched pair together?
Donizetti’s sparkling score balances mischievous humour with beautifully tender moments - including Nemorino’s poignant ‘Una furtiva lagrima’ - the story fizzing along between sincere sentiment and fast-paced patter.
Director Roxana Haines (Così fan tutte 2020, La boheme 2020), looks to the elegance and wit of Jane Austen for this sunny new production. Featuring Scottish Opera Emerging Artists Arthur Bruce, Catriona Hewitson and Shengzhi Ren, alongside Roland Wood (La boheme 2020) as Dulcamara, an 18-strong chorus and The Orchestra of Scottish Opera, it promises a fresh new take on this ever-entertaining and romantic tale of love, jealously and joy.
All performers observe current physical distancing guidelines throughout the filming of this concert.

What a beautiful performance! So full of spirit. No wonder everyone's in love with Adina - Catriona Hewitson is stunning! What voice and technique in one so young. Thank you all for this lovely experience.
Bravi tutti indeed - very well done!
despite pandemic! This is a wonderful performance. Thanks for the Video. Everyone - singers, choir, orchestra, especially the conductor, a thousend Applause.Bravo 🎼👏👏👏♥️
Bravi! Bravi! Bravi! What a wonderful spirited performance! Congratulations to the entire team -- this was such an enjoyable performance -- just what we needed (and all socially distanced too!). My compliments to all who created this successful whole, but especially Neporino, Adina and Dulcamara, and the orchestra too. Although I am a confirmed anti-romantic, this lovely simple and unlikely story always brings tears to my eyes, and yes, moved me this evening!
Thanks for lovely singing, staging and production within these constraints.

вы что-то напутали. Дулькамара ужасен!. Его голос более чем странный. Но в целом спектакль отличный!. А уж Адина просто прекрасна!!! Белькоре только на военного не похож. Усищи такие огромные.
Thank God for something good coming out of the pandemic ! The sound quality is terrific. .This is the opera I would chose
for your first experience. This was Queen Victoria's favourite opera.
good job guys!
Thank you so much for this absolutely delightful production - congratulations to everyone involved.
Wonderful production and performance. Lovely to see some familiar faces amongst the soloists and Chorus.
Bravi! Absolutely fantastic 👏
Che belli voci!bravi
I'm very much looking forward to watching this once I've finished editing the other two versions :)
It was great meeting and working with such a friendly and talented group of professionals.
Congratulations!!
Very nice, thank you for showing it👏👏😊
Interesting. A very vocal performance - so very well sung, and every word clear. But strangely demure, not at all dramatic. Even at the end, the lovers merely hold hands!
Later - Dulcamara really illustrates the illnesses his Elisir can cure....❤
Bravi tutti!!!!!!!!!!
just WOW. WOW.
BRAVO
Every tenor of note has sung "Una furtiva lagrima" (1:47:50), but I find Shengzhi Ren's interpretation to be wonderfully moving and beautiful. In particular, his crescendo transition (1:50:54) from "coi suoi sospir" into "Cielo!" without taking a breath, and his diminuendo at the end of the aria ("Si puo morir d'amor"), are highly effective.
Szinvonalas szep eloadas! Minden resztvevonek meleg gratulaciot kuldok
Köszönjük a figyelmet! Örülünk, hogy élvezted.
What a beautiful production. I wish it wasn't so oddly distanced but I understand the time we're in. Such a beautiful sound that you guys brought to life. All this is enhanced with a glorious group of emerging artists in the cast. I wish we could buy this recording it's so wonderful!
Congratulations, I really enjoyed this production. The only flaw concerns the Italian diction of some of the artists, but they are young and can certainly improve.
Bravi, beautiful delightful production. Considering the situation the whole world is in now. 🎶🎶👏👏
Who is the tenor?
Shengzhi Ren

It is a meritorious effort in a refreshing staging. However, it is suggested to improve the Italian pronunciation.

I couldn't continue watching. The tenor pronunciation is so bad. It's a shame since is voice is beautiful. Well, next time.
