That’s a nice little bug Lyndsay. I can’t deny I’m not that keen on tying parachute flies but I’ve watched a few and most guys turn the hook round at the posting stage and hackle/whip etc sideways. Looks a lot easier and the whip finish tool is normal way round. Thank you for another one dude.
Cheers pal when off camera I do turn the vice with these patterns. Just picked up a great tip from Kenneth about using the resin on the post. Definitely going to give that a go.
I find it best to reposition the hook in the vice when winding the thread up the post so that the eye is facing down at the post sticks out horizontally
Hi Lindsay. just a thought I learned on line from another tier ,once you have tied on your post material twist it tightly ,then apply a sm. amount of uv resin to the post ,hit it with the light and presto : no more wrapping the post with thread. I use this method with all my posts.
Great control of a very nice looking fly. Can't find Troutline ribbing fibres in NZ so will just have to be creative. The whip finishing the hackle on the post is worth persevering with but certainly problematic unless you have perfect eyesight and very steady hands. Just looking at your tying I think you would have no trouble. The feather benders work is truly remarkable and you are close at hand. Regards.
My go to dry - the Turks Tarantula - a few examples on RUclips. I tie it with a 2mm white foam wing instead of calf body. And tie it sedge style instead of muddler style, with either a black or purple body. It takes fish in a flat calm or big wave, static or stripped. I use it also as a dry dropper fly or as point fly on the washing line.
Great looking fly, especially on that hook. You can make a pretty good gallows tool from a wire coat hanger to attach to your vise stem, but, as you noted here, I found it got in the way & stopped using it.

Cool, thanks if I could get near to Barry's skills I would be a happy man.

Cool idea, but just don't use it enough to bother pal.
Nice dry fly, I like the logic for the order of applying your materials. Well done.
Thank you very much!
Nice one Lindsay thanks for sharing
My pleasure 😊
Very nice video and great tying tips 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Thanks for visiting, much appreciated.
EP trigger point, z-lon or macrame yarn (bonnie braid) makes an excellent waterproof and high floating post.
Anton unfortumately sinks.
Cheers!
Its not my preferred material but when its Ginked up it does at a push.
@@lindsayiflyfish a really great pattern all the same!
