I know a guy who works at Weeki Wachee springs a half hour south of Crystal River. Same ecology, marshy spring-fed rivers. He is routinely involved in controlled burns to prevent wild fires. It could account for the brush being more sparse these days.
I grew up in Flordia and I'm over 50 now. Florida rivers have been filled up with houses and businesses from the North to the South of Florida. Instead of protecting rivers cities and the State sold the areas off to make a fast buck. Now we are paying for it. Florida has killed off more animals than any other state due to over development and filling in wetlands to build new neighborhoods. It's sad to see areas like this that once was a beautiful tourist area to over priced homes
Great video - it made me realize how much I miss Cousteau's documentaries. Another job well done!

Lovely piece of film - my introduction to the manatee species many years ago.

A person has to wonder what happened to Sam since then. I have no idea of their lifespan ect. Thanks for another good one Dan
Well, Snooty will be 69 this year, but wild manatees live to be a 10 to 15 years old.
