When you use your voice box that means it’s voiced (like the word that). And when you don’t use your voice box then it’s unvoiced (like the word thick).
Thank you for this video. We are currently on Elemental Phonics level 2 lesson 21, however initially I had went with Easy Peasy Learn to Read and my daughter was just not grasping the way it is set up. We tried both ways: sight words and phonics. That is when I purchased Elemental Phonics and it was a game changer for us. After hearing you talk about the “th” voiced and unvoiced, I completely agree with you. I needed more than the side note to explain the why. I plan to complete level 2 and see if I can continue in Easy Peasy Learn to Read. We do also have Bob books that we read as well and McGuffey Original Pictorial Primer. I would love to use AAR level 1 but it’s out of our budget at the moment. Happy reading and learning!
Yes! Sounds like Elemental level 1 was just the ah ha moment needed for both our kids! If you are comfortable with used curriculum, I did find AAR 1 on eBay and thrift books! The flashcards, although super convenient to have premade, can be made with index cards. I hear you regarding the cost. I do wish it was more affordable. I have heard that Progressive Phonics is a really good free resource for expanding upon teaching things like the "th". It might be worth trying that! I only found it after AAR was acquired, but it looks great. The "th" is explained in the Intermediate level.
@@_doolee_4221 how exciting!!! I used an exacto knife that I had on hand, but a sharp knife or scissors should do the trick. I hope you keep me posted on how it goes!! We just finished lesson 8 and love it! Taking our time, but a really good fit. We also added in progressive phonics readers :)
Logic of English does an amazing job at practicing voice and unvoiced sounds before even introducing the TH sound (Level B). Level A covers phonemic awareness which I found it a little repetitive and boring but it really helped my son to understand the difference in sounds once we reached B. We had the same struggle with TH but my son used what he learned (listening for the voice box sound or nasal sound) to distinguish the difference sounds. The program is pricy but it does include handwriting, spelling and reading comprehension which made me feel a little better with spending so much 😅
i have a few different phonics curriculum and i hate them all becasue they dont explain it simple enough for my brain. we are trying explode the code once my printer ink shows up and i can print it off.
I hear you here! Which ones do you have on hand? If you find it helpful, maybe I can help research free supporting resources using what you have. Happy to be a second set of eyes.

Thanks for the explanation! Definitely have learned a lot about phonics over the past year!

@@ThatsRightIHomeschool I got my hands on level 1! Do you have any tips for making slits on some of the activities? Thanks!

This is the exact video I needed. I have a pre K and have tried Elemental Phonics. However she is very stuck on blending also. Thank you
It was a light bulb moment for my child, about about a third-ish of the way through level 1! You got this :)
logic of english teaches the voiced and unvoiced i just cant afford the price right now
I was looking at this one too. All About Reading was a hair cheaper, but still quite pricey. :(
