yesterday, purchased the same version FZ-09 that you have, the liquid graphite model. what an awesome bike. all because of your review. I had an 07 cbr 600 rr but love this bike. drove it home more than 30 miles from the dealer with no problem at all. thanks again for the excellent review.

I really enjoyed and agreed with this review, having owned a UK version Yamaha MT-09 (same as the US FZ-09) for 3 weeks now. It is such a pleasure to see and hear somebody with much more riding experience than myself making the points and comments in this review. I have no problem with the fuelling, the suspension, the brakes, the chassis, the handling or anything I have heard other people find flaws with in other reviews.
I took one out on test for 2 hours and I wasn't able to understand 2 things about it:
    1. How have they managed to sell the bike at the price they have when it's so good and such high quality?
    2. How is there so much power all the time from the engine and yet my 2 hour test ride returned an average 57 mpg?
I was convinced there must be some wizardry and witchcraft involved in the engine on the bike but I knew I had to have one so I could experience the feeling again and again. I know that every day I will have more fun on this bike than any of the others I was looking at when I was shopping for a new bike.
    Well done sir.

Best and most detailed review of this bike I have seen yet !...I am in the UK and will now be definitely be ordering the European MT 09 version with ABS and Acroprovic exhaust. I was concerned about reports of the snatchy throttle response and soft suspension but you have put my mind at rest in this regard....many thanks !

I just got my 2015 model about 2 weeks ago. I love it! I will agree with the critics on the suspension in respect to front fork drop, though that is easily remedied. I look forward to your video on adjusting it. The fueling is awesome. I ride mostly in "B" mode, but only because I'm trying to tame myself during the break in period. Awesome Review! I look forward to seeing future videos on this bike.

Man, I'm so glad I found this review! I was at my local bank yesterday, and saw a bike locked up in jail, lol repo. They were closed so I went back today, to see exactly what it was, man it's a 2014 FZ09 the red model. Not a scratch with 800 miles. 6000.00 now I was worried about all these reviews on the fueling and the suspension, but 6 grand for a like new bike. I think I'm going to pull the trigger, after I take it for a spin. Thanks dude great review!! I feel so much better!

Hard to do a motorcycle review while riding. Prone to a lot of rambling and random thoughts. I am very sad to hear about the poor fuel economy and the lack of analog tac. I would love to ride this bike and feel the engine! Glad to hear you love the Yamaha FZ09.

Great review, I have an 2009 Yamaha FJR-1300, I bought new and Like very well. After watching your review I am now salivating over the Yamaha FJ-09. I could never part with FJR because it is so practical. I hope to buy the FJ-09 but will wait a couple years to see what improvements they will hopefully make. Thank You.

Loved your reviews and with 500 miles on my FZ-09, I couldn't agree with you more. Maybe I just got a "good one" but I think the fun factor is a 10. Mine was 9 grand out the door with a 4 year extended warranty! Bang for the Buck, nothing else even comes close in my opinion.

Great review. I have an 06 Honda 919. - People complain about this and that but Yamaha as you said, really made this bike a nice machine out of the crate. For the price point, it looks like a great machine. Even my 919 was complained about in one way or another but once I'm riding it, fun and it works. You hit on every point people might want to hear about. I can only own one bike and I like naked bikes.

Great review! I'm a commuter riding from Murrieta to Poway during the work week. Went from the 2007 SV650S ABS to a 2009 Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS, to get a better freeway ride and more upright riding style. Considering switching to this FZ-09 to make splitting lanes a little easier on the 15N. Too bad no ABS! I really prefer the extra safety feature. With your review, I intend to make the switch this spring, thanks for the awesome review.

First off, I would like to say thank you. You gave a very very good review which I really appreciate. You have earned yourself a sub. You did an awesome job describing what the pros and cons were to both motorcycles which puts you in a less bias position making your choice to get an fz-09 even better. I now have much better feeling in my stomach about my choice to get one. Thanks

I couldn't agree with you more on this review. I recently purchased a 2016 FZ09 and was worried about all the negative suspension reviews until I rode it. Sure its not an aggressive track setup, but its actually pretty decent for a commuter that you plan to occasionally ride aggressively. The engine is a monster for its size. I can't comment on the fueling however. Mine has the new throttle mapping, but I still agree with your description of what the individual modes are for. I used to have a first gen FZ1, and except for having a little less on the top end I feel the FZ09 is better every where else. I fell the only thing that was left off, that there is no excuse for, is a helmet lock. Its a super cheap feature that wouldn't have changed the price at all, but at the same time it's super easy to add. That's my only negative really. It's a great all around, do all bike and I can't wait to put more miles on this thing.

Thanks a lot for the amazing review. Just like you mentioned I was thrown off because people kept mentioning that the fueling and the suspension was bad. But now I am convinced that its not gonna be a problem at all.

I totally agree with you about this bike,i think the fuelling is perfect though...each map is 'perfect 'for its intended use ..thats why it has a choice of maps !!!!!...if you're having problems with the fuelling in any given situation then you're in the wrong map!!!! its all very simple....the suspension is set up for maximum movement at speeds up to 100 mph ...thats where this bike is designed for...the movement of the bike and the intense acceleration is what makes this bike soooo much fun to ride ...anyone who doesn't get this ...wont get it ...!!! we do !!!!!.FAB REVIEW....!!!!

I know you said it's not a beginner bike, but I don't want to get a bike that I wouldn't be happy with 250-500cc bike. Not to mention, the naked bikes don't grab the attention of the police like street bikes do in Arizona. Awesome review and very detailed!

Great review, great review. It is one of the best motorcycles reviews I've seen in a long time here in RUclips. Also, it seems you really know what you are talking about. And the quality of the video is fantastic! Thanks for sharing.
I just have a quick question and I know this is a more subjective topic than anything else. But between the ST and the fz09, which one you find more comfortable? I used to own a ST (was totaled due an accident, not my fault) and my feet feel cramped after a 20 to 30 min trip.

Great review! I'm looking to get my first bike come Springtime and considered a bunch of bikes in the 300-650cc range. Ninja 300, 650, ER-6N and the Honda CBR500RA were some of the top contenders. I mainly want to do some light riding on the weekends and a few trips here and there with one of my buddies. Thing is, I don't really care for touring and sport bikes and find the looks/ergonomics of naked bikes right up my alley. The ER-6N was really the best option out of the ones I mentioned. I recently sat on the FZ-09 and immediately fell in love with it. I watched your entire video and near the end you said for beginners to stay away from it. Is it really that bad of an idea to get this as my first bike? I was afraid it would be too powerful, but after speaking to Yamaha, they said that a lot of beginner riders underestimate the power they might need/be able to handle. Also, the B mode sounds ideal for people concerned with this problem. I really wish this bike was available in a 650cc flavor. Thoughts?

Usually I would not sit through an hour long review, however, this was done really well and pretty much sold me on an fz9 even though I was thinking of buying the 8. Now all I need is $8500. (Minor details really) I have a Harley 1200 sportster that a friend sold me. But that's not really my cup of tea, it just fills the void of having 2 wheeled transport (the best) till I can get what I really want, the Fz-09. Anyway great review.

First of all, thank you for this review. Detailed, informative, and an eye opener. I'm in the market for a new bike since getting rid of my HD Ultra but wanted a street/sportier bike this time around. Been looking at reviews for the FZ 09 and FZ07 as well as the FZ6R. The negative reviews found was also turning me off as you mentioned. Now the FZ 09 is at the top of my list. Have you had a chance to ride the FZ07? If so, thoughts? I usually never leave comments but again thank you so much for sharing.

Excellent review but I did have a question for you, do you think there is enough adjustability in the suspension to accommodate a 200lb rider, I know you got it set up for your size (not sure what you weigh though) but that is my biggest concern around buying this bike.

  • @browie316
    @browie316 9 лет назад

Can I ask what you weigh given the suspension works well for you?
Talking to my local dealer a few days ago he admitted if you are over 75kilo (165 pounds in your language) you're gonna want a new shock and heavier fork springs.

From belgium, We don't got the FZ-09 but its called the MT-09. It rains alot here.. but this bike comes with an standard ABS system here ! Very good review. I was also thinking about getting a street triple R wich was my favorite nude bike (cus i loved to get a KTM 690 SMCR but ain't that well for long travels and i'm kind of a traveller!) , every review said that the yamaha wasn't good.. suspention is bad.. etc etc. Till i test drove it just because my friend told me to (he owns a kawa z750 and has alot of torque but said that the MT-09 was from another planet!). This is an amazing bike ! And i'm sure getting this one. Street triple R is an amazing bike and i would get it if: A) He wasn't so expensive. It costs like 2-3 K more then the yamaha. B) I'm a tall man (200cm think thats like 6feet9 or 10) and the striple R is so tiny when i'm on it. C) The yamaha is an all around motorcylce. I actually went OFF ROAD with this ! (it was the MT-09 RALLY, other suspention, other weel's on it and some designe stuff) Those are my 3 points why this will be my next bike!

I tried the MT09 in the Netherlands this morning: fantastisc!

The only thing which prevent me to buy the Yam right now is the f*** dutch winter weather and all the salt on the roads:-(

Do you think FZ-09 is a good Idea as an upgrade my ninja 250R? Is it a lot more power too soon? Looking for an upgrade for my daily commute. I've only been riding for a year but put more then 8k miles on the ninja.

With a year and especially that many miles, the concern you still have about being ready is probably proof that yes, you are. You sound like you have a very level head, and commuting everyday is a sure fire way to gain all kinds of experience. You should be more than ready. It might take a minute to get used to the extra power, but you will be fine! Good luck!

just don't roll on the throttle to fast you'll be ok.

I'm looking at getting this bike moving up from a 250 as well I've been riding my ninja for 3 years and have put 34000 miles on it. And when I hopped on this bike ( friend of mine owns it ) it just took a little bit of time to get used to and then I was right with him in the corners again. The power of this bike is immense compared to the 250s but it's also very manageable.

You may have swayed me back to FZ-09 form FZ-07.. I was steering away based on exactly the issues you mentioned reviewers were saying about suspension and twitchy fueling. I've owned a Bandit 1200, Hayabusa, and CBR1000RR.. and the acceleration here seems like it would be pleasing to me vs a lesser bike. I have some questions:
1: How much do you weigh and what did you change to the suspension settings to make it feel good to you.
2: How are these videos being recorded without the wind noise being annoying. How is it all set up? Thank you!

Great view and thank you. I ride the FZ8 and I am wondering if you have ever ridden the FZ8 and in turn would have a comparison of it to the FZ-09?

Just a quick word on prep. I turn wrenches at at Yamaha dealership. To go through a complete pre delivery inspection on a bike takes a solid hour. To build from a crate your looking at half an hour. That's 1.5-2.0 hours the sales department is getting charged by the service dept. it's not all bs.

Excellent review from a street rider. You're right...the magazine guys are looking for hardcore stuff, so they lose the regular day to day riding. I'm also looking at a Honda CB500F, which is not in the same league, but in the same genre of bikes. I've owned an R1 and other fast bikes and don't care about going THAT fast. I noticed you never got over 100MPH. So you've convinced me that all I need is that CB, maybe... With the CB that gets 70 MPG at least I can preach to Prius drivers!

With all of the suspension speak, how much do you weigh? I'm 190 lbs or so, wondering if the compression would be good for me. I have a 2009 kawasaki concours that I love, but this thing is much more agile and is a great value, so i have been toying with the idea of it. Thanks for any input.

Now you can take your Bike back to the Yamaha Dealer and get the Fueling reflashed so the fueling is alot better in A Mode like the 2015 model.I'm planning to buy the 2015 FZ09 in the next week.I test drove it and it's awesome.I almost got turned off also but I don't wear Knee pucks on the street. That's for the track. The suspension on the 2015 comes from the factory, the settings, alot better.Awesome video Fluxx and very informative.Your alot of the reason I'm buying this bike.Without your input and Dodge Rider's input I wouldn't have planned to buy one.Even though I test rode it because you don't get to ride it everywhere.I also test rode the 2014 and had a big grin on my face!!!Keep up the good work Fluxx!!!.

Great video I learned alot! Ive been riding an R6 the last year. Wouldn't call myself an experienced rider (no track experience etc). I just like cruising to work etc, and hitting the throttle on open road. Would you recommend this bike to a commuter in a congested city like Miami? Unfortunately my R6 was stolen recently from an apt garage that was gated. Any advice on how to prevent my bike from getting stolen in the future? Thanks again for all the tips.

Great review.i agree some reviews here in the Uk really moan about the fueling.I took a demo bike out and was suprised by the power and torque. If you ride around in traffic in A mode, yes snatchy throttle. But switch to B mode and all sorted.Id luv to fly the flag for Triumph been from the Uk but the Tripple R is so much more to buy i think id pick the Yam every day.Ride safe my friend. My gf just bought the new z1000 my mate the trippleR and I have riden them both, and thought yeah great bikes but to clinical no hooligan!I then rode mt09 and fell in love but after watching reviews kinda doubted whether I did enjoy it that much and whether I would move from my 600 super sport for it....but you just re sold it to me cheers bud

May be it's a stupid thing. But, I have now a 250cc and two years in experience. I thinking in buying this bike in August 2014, it's a good idea? Is a intelligent jump from 250 to 800cc? Thanks for the answers.
