I think there's going to be a pretty noticeable gap between the A90J and the A80J. The A80J lacks the new OLED Panel, which has more colour volume, better brightness and according to the calibrator dude in Fomo's last video ABL is basically not noticeable on the A90J, presumably it would on the A80J. Full field brightness will probably be much higher on the A90J, clipping of highlights will no doubt be much more aggressive on the A80J because it doesn't have the Heatsink or new OLED Panel, but image processing will probably be very close if not the same between the A80J and 90 because they share the same XR Processor, unless Sony are using a more powerful version on the A90J.
@@eurovisie2010 According to RTings in game mode the A9G went up to 176 nits full field, 300 nits on the A90J full field would be a very noticeable difference, assuming the A80J is comparable to the A9G.
@@MrSec84 I disagree, Sony A8H is an excellent tv. If they (Sony) intends on selling Sony A80J it’s going to have to be a significant improvement. Expect something amazing.......
@@tears2040 I didn't say it wouldn't be an improvement over the A8H, not sure where you got that from, my comparisons were to the A90J, which will use the new panel, of course the XR Processor will add to the picture improvements of the A80J over the A8H. It's just that the added colour volume and brightness of the A90J will provide a noticeable improvement over the A80J, as it should for the extra price people will pay going from a lower end current OLED.
IMPORTANT INFO BEFORE YOU BUY THIS TV : 1) Robert had mentioned on the live stream that it was not worth the upgrade if u already own a c9 or cx but when they uploaded the stream they edited that part out, this has been written by other users in this comment section. 2) This tv has no VRR right now , just like the xh90 buyers are still waiting this update from almost a year now. 3) Is it rumored that this 4000 dollar 65 inch premium tv dosen´t use the new Evo panel from LG, that can be why the tv only reach 780 nits in calibrated mode, vivid mode is unusable for most of people as you know. Have a nice day, and be caution with the hype before you spend 3000 or 4000 dollars-euros.
I talked to Robert personally he said its worth even upgrading over the a8h and the cx idk where you sre getting your info but ne Brian and many others have heard what he said and he said it is the biggest step forward from sony in years so did vincnet from HDTV test Robert and John both said it is absokurely the best tv they have ever experienced especially in hdr John bought the a90j even himself the main calibrator for the US shootout I still own my c9 and bought an a90j after talking with everyone about it I also got the c1 first but decided to return it for the a90j again after talking to everyone Robert and John both also stated the numbers don't tell the full story and that the rpocessor is boosting highlights all have said it is the brightest oled they have seen to date even brighter then the hz2000 on smaller highlights due to how its getting boosted again idk who you are talking to but they got there facts mixed up call him personally and ask him yourself speak to John while you are at it he will tell you what makes this tv so special that xr processor is magic and the dynamic range is insane
I'm happy SONY has made such a fantastic TV. If it's that good then I guess it's worth the premium price. Especially for those people who can afford it.
It’s an incredible OLED TV for sure. I dislike how it cannot move its feet alittle to the center. The design of the TV’s feet will cause a lot of people to need a new Tv stand. The other problems would be no VRR on release day and only two HDMI 2.1 ports. Other than that it’s an amazing TV hands down.
@@ZackSNetwork I completely agree. Luckily, I’ve been looking to buy another entertainment TV stand for the past year, so I can just buy one accordingly. However, the lack of VRR and waiting for a software update sucks. Especially, since it’s Sony. Their reliability with software updates isn’t the best, or at least their messaging regarding VRR on the X900H wasn’t.
It’s dead good in better and it’s worth the price you can afford it if you want it. I got the 83 inch in the front room and I’m getting the 55 inch for the game room can’t wait waiting on the price to drop one more time
Hi! Thanks for all the great content! I have a small room with no windows 14*12*8 where I am planning to put an 83 inch A90J. Considering the size of the room, and a total budget of around 7-8k which soundbar would you recommend I pair it with? Thanks!
Robert Zohn and his company (Value Electronics) were good people to buy from. I bought a $4000 Technics SL-1210GAE turntable from them a few months ago. Unfortunately, they can't presently supply the Sony A90J. They can only put customers onto a waiting list. So i went to Abt Electronics (also a very reliable company to buy from). They had the 55" A90J in stock, and shipped it the same day at the newly lowered price of $2798. A trucking company will deliver it to me in Florida on May 12th. I'm looking forward to it. My existing T.V. is a 2009 54" Panasonic Plasma. Be cautioned if you buy the T.V. from Abt: don't buy the extended warranty. The company selling the warranty ("Square Trade") are scam artists who (in one way or another) swindled 11% of their customers on Ebay . The warranties that Square Trade sells on ebay are non-refundable, even if the Ebay seller unilaterally cancels the order, the seller is banished by ebay, The merchandise never arrives, or the seller ships defective (or deceptively described) product and the customer has to immediately return the product. Square Trade will not respond to repeated customer messages, and Ebay's money back guarantee excludes extended warranties. I learned my lesson about Square Trade, after buying a supposedly "New" HP Printer on Ebay. The printer was blatantly re-packaged, used and broken down. Ebay compelled the seller to refund my purchase price. but they won't compel Square Trade to refund for the warranty that i can no longer use. Of course, when Square Trade offered a $109 extended warranty for the television (via Abt's site), I didn't buy it. As they say "Fool Me Once,Shame on you.Fool me twice, Shame on me". UPDATE: A few days after I bought the A90J from Abt Electronics, Value electronics DID get the A90J into stock.
1300 nits in vivid mode doesnt mean too much. I only watch in custom mode and it is reported 800-1,000 nits. This is still high for an oled but dont buy this tv for 1300 nits alone.
Hi, what about motion handling on the A90J? I heard and read on different sources that the motion handling on the A90J is bad and has issues like stutter, especially with slow panning shots. What is your opinion and experience with that? I'm thinking of buying the 83" A90J in 2024 because the price went down a lot in The Netherlands for a new A90J. Thanks!

Best review yet that I have seen. So, if I close my shades in my living room, will that be good enough? I want this tv, but I don't want to be disappointed. My tv now is 10 years old and I deal with the light coming in and it's not a huge issue, of course it's not an Oled though.
As usual, great video. Question: My use cases are sports in a moderately bright room during the day & movies in the same (dark) room at night. Do I go with the 83" A90J or the 85" Z9J? It's has to last me 10 years. Moving up from a 1080p 60" Pioneer Elite. Thank you.
Bright room viewing no issues dark room viewing no issues in our Bright room with sun coming through the skylights we have the brightness level set to 35 and in the evenings for evenings TV viewing we have the brightness level set to five. Now if you take your TV outside will put your TV in a window where the sun can directly hit it you may have some problems but you will have problems with all TVs if you do that
Well, I still have 28 days to return my 65” CX. Like I can catch technically! That bright oled screen sounds nice though. Burn in could be more of a challenge.
How bright of a room is too bright?. A tv for me will be used during the day with the family and at night for glorious movie and game time. But I have 1 window directly across feom the tv. The decision between OLED and QLED seems hard to measure.
Update to my initial post back over two years ago about by 83 A90J - any glitches and banding issues have disappeared - loving this tv, just wish it was bigger!
Is there any information on the input lag? Is there a game mode and does brightness/hdr operate well? Would appreciate more information as it relates to gaming if possible. Pc gamer here looking to either this or g1 evo.
Hey Fomo. I have a 65" A90J and discovered a severe issue for people that plan to use this set for gaming. The TV as of today cannot properly display/handle 4k/120fps gaming. When for example the Series X is set to 4k/120fps, you get gradient/color banding in images like a skyline. Once you turn off 120 and change it to 60fps the issues disappear. I have tested several settings and noting fixes it. I also use a Sharc eArc device to get Dolby Atmos and when the game system is set to 4k/120fps it causes audio issues. It appears that the 4k/120 ports are not fully functional. When turning off 120 audio is perfect and no issues. The set is amazing...but this is a major issue and I hope you can look into it and report it to your connections to hopefully get Sony to fix it.
I discovered the issue and it also plagues the PS5. When you have 4k/120hz/HDR your get the banding/gradiant issues appearing. When you turn off HDR and send a 4k/120 signal the TV displays the image properly. I tested both the PS5 and Series X on a LG C9 with 4k/120/HDR and no issues. I also had a new 2021 Samsung QN90A and no issues with that as well. So it is not on the consoles side. I firmly believe that the A90J is not running it's HDMI 2.1 ports at full bandwidth and that is causing this issue.
@@johnsaunders4594 that’s not good well I get my A90J hopefully this week will try with my PS5 and see if I have the same issue thing is the PS5 is limited to 32GBPS hdmi 2.1 so unless the TV is running it’s 2.1 port slower than that that might not be the issue will have to have a look for my self
For real I just grabbed the 77” cx for 3200$ there bugging and the peak brightness seems for vivid mode so what’s the real boost for hgig gaming, the cx is bright enough
I agree. And when you think about it... all these new tvs, and picture quality is splitting hairs!! Picture quality on these flagship brands are not night and day difference to be paying a million bucks more for. It's splitting hairs with all these panels.
@@rindershow212 you’re not paying a million dollars more. If picture quality is important to you then you won’t mind paying extra for the a90j. It’s significantly better than its competitors
@@Manny24_8 you are not comprehending my point here. Sony flagship oled, lg flagship oled e.t.c are not night and day difference, 95%of ppl buying flagship panel won't see a big difference to be shelling out thousands more. So in the evening always been spectacular, but in the daytime if I’m playing with my ps5 or Pc I have to cover the windows. I’m thinking to change it this year, and seeing your video this A90J looks amazing but it’s not the better choice for me. What tv would you recommend me? Thanks for your videos, I like them a lot
Going on my sixth week with my 83A90J. Yeah, it's great but it's not perfect. There are vertical banding issues that are quite annoying that, apparently, are "within acceptable tolerances" according to industry folks including our own Mr. Zohn up there in the video. Great guy to speak with by the way. I just think for $8k there should be zero issues that are annoying.
@@kellywilliamson2187 I watch both and I do not have the issues you having my Sony a 90 J 83 inch is amazing maybe you should return yours and try to get another one
I really want the 65” but I can’t find a suitable stand to put in on why didn’t Sony let you put the feet in the middle position like you can on the 83”
This! You can grab that 77 cx for almost the cost of the 55inch Sony. No way that 83 inch at 8k is that much better the the 77cx for more than double the price as well.
Hello! I’ve bought this 65” Sony A90J earlier this year and found a strange phenomenon while playing my new and old blu ray discs, including 4K discs. There’re random split second blackouts, some lasted a second or two. It is quite annoying and spoilt my viewing pleasure. Is there anything I can do to improve the situation and what is the cause for this?
Here we are in 2023, & I can now get an amazing deal on SONY’s 83” A90J! (It’ll be my first OLED tv ever) I was just wondering: Am I truly “missing out” by getting the A90J at this point, instead of 2023’s LG G3? Honestly, is it that much better?
Great TV. I wanted to get the 83A90J so much but only one big drawback for me : only 2 HDMI 2.1. Won’t spend 7000-8000€ in a TV in 2021 to get only half HDMI 2.1.
The RX manufacturers must make receivers with several HDMI 2.1 ports with passthrough that affects the signal minimally or not at all so that ALL possible features are functioning. Otherwise, how am I going to also connect my future Epson HDMI 2.1 4K HDR @ 120 Hz projector to the mix?
I hate to say this, but my 10 plus old Kuro still has the better picture and motion than all OLEDS. Better rendering of image. i tried to convince myself otherwise for the last few years but its true. Even my Samsung Plasma has a better picture, especially for movies. Its actually not even close. A good way of putting it. for example, if I was watching a black and white movie for instance, The kuro is an Ansel Adams quality Black and white and the Sony Oled is just like a black and white pic I took myself. The OLED is 4K if that matters to you and does have great sound. but for picture quality alone, plasma is and always will better OLED technology. A tough pill to swallow unfortunately.
@@beavis4play in that case the a90j looks really good. It has a very good game mode with good processing yet still low input lag. Only major issue i have with the A90J is only 2 of the 2.1 HDMI ports with one of them being the EARC. So if you have surround and two game consoles, you're limited. If the G1 matches up with a better price it could be interesting since it does have 4 x 2.1 ports. I wouldn't be so critical if this wasn't a flagship TV, but come on Sony! Only drawback I have with the G1 is the lack of a normal stand

Can't wait to see reviews of the 83", 8k is a tad steep but I'm due for an upgrade and unless the G1 can come close this is definitely everything I'm looking for in a new OLED
I just ordered my 55” a90J from Best Buy magnolia, within a BB store. They said it won’t go live online for a few weeks, not to be shipped until late April at best, if purchased online. 5 year geek squad warranty covers burn in. Go grab it tomorrow! I pick up at store on 3/18/21. 3850 tax and 5 year warranty covering burn in for ANY reason! Walk in only. 😃😃😃
We need to know how close the A80J gets to the A90J
@@MrSec84 300 nits full field
FOMO said the 900TS was the best thing since sliced bread. A couple months later he was saying the $900 4K H9G was better. FOMO is a carnival barker
I’d love to get the 55” but that price is steep. Think I’m gonna have to be patient and go with the A80J.
I know exactly what you mean. Or you can possibly wait until the holidays and try to get the A90J if they still have some in stock somewhere.
i want one but, want to see pics with Ps5 and series x playing on it
The price will drop
IMPORTANT INFO BEFORE YOU BUY THIS TV :
1) Robert had mentioned on the live stream that it was not worth the upgrade if u already own a c9 or cx but when they uploaded the stream they edited that part out, this has been written by other users in this comment section.
Normal oleds get 400 nits and better models 600 nits, so 780 nits is huge upgrade...
G1 is 2800, with as high nits as this if you believe the marketing.
This is 2020 all over again 🤦🏽♂️
I got the 83 inch in the front room and I’m getting the 55 inch for the game room can’t wait waiting on the price to drop one more time
Saved the money and got a A9G + a projector set up. Size matters for movies. I care about the audio more.
A9G is gorgeous. I returned it for a CX only because I was used to the brighter HDR. But A9G is damn neae perfect. Movies look excellent on it.
Bought a A9G as well. I got a great deal and I don’t think the better PQ is gonna be worth the price difference. Not to me.
Hi! Thanks for all the great content! I have a small room with no windows 14*12*8 where I am planning to put an 83 inch A90J. Considering the size of the room, and a total budget of around 7-8k which soundbar would you recommend I pair it with? Thanks!
I just bought a 55" today at Best Buy, should be delivered in 2 days. My current TV is 11 years old... LOL. My PS5 is waiting for you A90J!
Sounds like me. Are you a clone?
Great job fomo you and value electronics so excited to buy the 65inch .
Hi, thank you this great review!
Reflection/glare vise do you think Z9J is a better alternative to A90J because it has anti-reflection?

Chiming in here in 2023. The 55" just went on sale for $999 so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this TV set.
Start the FOMO
1300 nits in vivid mode doesnt mean too much. I only watch in custom mode and it is reported 800-1,000 nits. This is still high for an oled but dont buy this tv for 1300 nits alone.
same, nobody in their right mind would use the vivid mode.
800-1000 Nits still would be great.
780-nits in calibrated Movie mode. Pretty good but not the 1000-nits many of us were hoping for.
@@TomlinsonHolman52583 Yep, wondering what Panasonic can do using both the EVO-Panel and a heatsink.
Thanks!

Can I put this against the wall or does it have to be on the stand to cool properly? Sriously considering this tv
Best review yet that I have seen. So, if I close my shades in my living room, will that be good enough? I want this tv, but I don't want to be disappointed. My tv now is 10 years old and I deal with the light coming in and it's not a huge issue, of course it's not an Oled though.
I really want A90J and wondering when it will stop being sold at Best Buy? I cant afford it just yet. Will the price drop any further? Thank you!
So when its not in vivid mode, the panel does not hit 1300 nits so does heat sink still keeps on working in background to keep the panel cold????
Ok, which tv is better in the living room were there are typically 1 to 2 windows? Will it be the samsung QD-OLED or the Sony A90J ?
As usual, great video. Question: My use cases are sports in a moderately bright room during the day & movies in the same (dark) room at night. Do I go with the 83" A90J or the 85" Z9J? It's has to last me 10 years. Moving up from a 1080p 60" Pioneer Elite. Thank you.

FOMO is the a90j better or LG G2 if both are same price?
Is there any information on the input lag? Is there a game mode and does brightness/hdr operate well? Would appreciate more information as it relates to gaming if possible. Pc gamer here looking to either this or g1 evo.

No g sync on the a90j?
So what do you think, between getting a 65 inch Sony a90j oled, or going with something like a x95j 75 inch, if I have the space.
You think buying a Best Buy geek squad protection plan is good idea for these oleds ?
My A90J IS COMING THIS THURSDAY CANT WAIT
Very interesting is this a TV issue or a series x issue but ? Do you think if a ps5 was plugged it at 4k 120 the same issue will appear
3000k for 55 inch lol . No amount of image processing is worth that much money, especially if the current best tv, the cx is 2000 bucks for 65 inches
I really want the 65” but I can’t find a suitable stand to put in on why didn’t Sony let you put the feet in the middle position like you can on the 83”
Size matters. 77 inch LG CX for 3500 is well worth the savings compared to the cost of any new tech 83 inch OLED.
Yeah, probably at least $4k less I'm thinking
This! You can grab that 77 cx for almost the cost of the 55inch Sony. No way that 83 inch at 8k is that much better the the 77cx for more than double the price as well.
I was definitely considering the A80J, but the A90J is very appealing.
Is it that much better?
I'm debating the 77 a80j or the 65 a90j
Just the fact, after 2 years and this tv is still on the market gets my attention!!! If this tv comes down in price in the next week or two….. 😮😮😮
Great TV. I wanted to get the 83A90J so much but only one big drawback for me : only 2 HDMI 2.1. Won’t spend 7000-8000€ in a TV in 2021 to get only half HDMI 2.1.
So then you wait.
I know it may be too early to tell, but would you recommend the Sony A9J if next gen gaming is part of its use case?
Yes. I talked with sony, they said once hdmi association puts the certificaton of hdmi 2.1 in writing all 2021 tv’s get updated for all features

You see burn in during next two to four years... no body has tested this tv 4 years so far!
@@haukionkannel Yeah thats what worries me with brighter oleds
Just managed to pre order a 55” A90J last night. So looking forward to getting this some time in April (fingers crossed). Upgrading from a 48” CX.
Whats the price comparison between this and the Panasonic?
$1000...
What is the best tv for under $2,000
Light gaming
Mostly streaking 4K RUclips, Netflix, Disney and Apple TV
Size preference 65
Is a 48 inch version in the pipeline?
What do you think, How much that 83 inch model will come down in price during black friday? Aren't those most expensive the ones which drop the most?
So why did Sony choose not to put an anti reflective coating on the screen?... And will the LG G1 have the anti coating?
Do OLED's usually have good anti-reflective properties? I thought it was Samsung TV's that excelled in anti-reflective screens.
Im not no expert,
It seems like a commercial for the tv
It does doesn't it? I'll list the drawbacks here:
(1) Expensive and you can get most of this performance for less with the G1, A80J and C1
(2) OLED may burn-in, always a risk
(3) Panasonic JZ2000 is as good but a little cheaper, sadly not sold in the USA
(4) Panasonic HZ2000U may be better, but costs WAY MORE
(5) in a bright room, this is a waste, get an X95J or Samsung
@@stopthefomo i don't mean to be rude. But is not tv to show .. It's just going by someone else word.
Those are good things to consider.
What I've read online.. The burn-in is like boogie man.. It doesn't really happen..
@@TheLateral18 that's wrong, burn-in is still a thing. That's not a mythos.
Those guys know what they are talking. You can watch their assembling video of the A90J. There you will see the TV
@@stopthefomo Isn’t the JZ2000 their new flagship? The HZ2000 is from 2020 so how could it be „better“ than the new one?
My A90J TV Stimulus Relief Act will put one of these in every Americans home!
That’s how I justified it. 😂 pick it up from Best Buy with 5 year warranty coving burn in on 3/19. 3750$ out the door. They have the 65 available as well “ walk in only” to a magnolia store. 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
@@beeritch24 3800 for a 55 inch tv. My god
@@shmacckk think about how pricey the best tv on the market was 20 years ago. I can afford it
@@beeritch24 Spend away then!
Hi Fomo, is the A9J going to be that much better than my A9J, 77 inch? 😫
If you mean A9G, I would say your Tv is already amazing. Wait tell next year when QD-OLED hits OLED TV’s. The brightness, color gamut, efficiency, etc will give you a true massive jump.
@@ZackSNetwork sorry yes typo A9G is what I have
Cool vlog Fomo. Did you end buying a 83 inch A90J OLED from Value Electronics. I have a deposit on one for myself. I think that you should go for the Panasonic 65inch HZ2000 instead better picture. I know we use to have Panasonic here in Canada until they pulled out it sucks for us here the US always gets it first. Think about it!!!
Just run a Receiver with HDMI 2.1 pass through. Only need one 2.1 on the TV.
Did I make a good choice
What about VRR & How many hdmi 2.1 ports? Connect the PS5 to it an show me these highlights after calibration!
Hi!
Do you know how much RAM have his system?
I cannot find this info nowhere
=(((((
Mr fomo thank you for your hard work
I changed my plans for this tv. I went from buying... To not buying. Still just not bright enough for me unfortunately. I was watching the calibration video from value electronics and for sdr gaming, I'm not losing 400 plus nits of brightness from the 930e. Same with all around hdr performance. I think for me it's the z9 series or bust at this point
Sadly my 65in 930e died this year lol. Loved the brightness of that tv. No LED tv comes close to the legendary 930e.
@@pooter4e552 the only ones that are better are the z series!
@@SpencersStuffTV Yeh! Best Buy gave me 3k credit back on a gift card from the 5yr warranty I had. Trying to decide what to replace the x930e that died in family room. I have A8H and was thinking about the A90J, but idk now.
@@pooter4e552 honestly If you aren't gaming, the z8h could be a fantastic option. It's brighter all around than the 930e and the current 75 inch is only 4500 dollars
Oled HDR can look brighter than the 930E on a lot of content due to the contrast especially dark scenes. Going from my C8,C9 to the 930E everything looked ashy black bars have light leakage and I game at 4K120 so this is no brainer for me.
I ended up pre-ordering an 83" Sony A90J from Best Buy today. The deposit was 10% down, so around $800, and Best Buy's sku number on that model is XR83A90J. The expected drop date is May.
What was the total with tax? Did they tell you...8k?
@@srt8310 Here in California, the tax rate is 9.5%... in total, I belive the out-the-door price is a little over $8750. I don't have the receipt in front of me to give you the exact amount.
