DELTABOY04 nobody is acting weird, this is the first major studio nearly all black cast superhero film about an African king from an African nation - that has never been done before
Even in films like Blade, you had only the lead and they try to fill it up with a lot of white actors, the black character exists almost as a token figure - in this film there is a huge diversity of African actors and African American actors, it is the first film to be led by nearly all black cast in the superhero genre
This is huge and this is monumental because a studio like Marvel doing this is a seismic change in how big blockbuster studios will operate in how they tell stories and how they cast movies - nobody is trying to say that no films with black people have ever been made but Black Panther is the first to be made in this golden age of superhero filmmaking and it is the first to be made in such a way that it is not just another American tale but one for African traditions and culture.
Yes we had black superheroes, but they don’t delve into the cultural and social implications of continents and nations the way Black Panther does - and while yes we do have many non superhero films that touch upon these subject matters, they are not big films that will be viewed by millions worldwide the way a Marvel movie can do in this day and age.
By exploring what it does, Black Panther is shining a new light on African culture, on the stories and diversity of all black people to a wider audience that wouldn’t have been able to see such stories before, especially in a superhero genre film.
