Total game changer! The take away at belt level parallel to the ground slightly in front of the hands, setting the wrists, and tracing the forearm for a shorter swing and naturally putting me back on plane as I rotate through the downswing made me a very happy man today, so thank you from the heart I mean that! You are my RUclips sensei now.
Been watching youtube golf for two years and never seem anything quite like it. This video is truely incredible. The amount of detail and knowledge you put into all your videos is amazing!! Thank you so much for all your hard work!!
Seriously pal by far you’re the best coach on RUclips. Only came across you’re channel few weeks ago and already you’ve changed my swing and strike massively I’m striking the ball so pure, big thank you from the UK keep up the great content 👍
Had my best iron play ever yesterday on a tight course carefully using this lesson. I have studied this and practiced it without balls, and by hitting wedges in a short game practice area, and will continue to study. The checkpoints throughout the video are very helpful to apply the lesson. I had most trouble with getting the shaft aligned with the right forearm, until I realized that I was prematurely folding my right elbow. One of my playing partners commented that I was making the smoothest swings that he had ever seen me make. I really enjoy your lessons with talented young players.
Watched this video twice the same day( because of the excellent info) . Took this lesson to the range on the same day, I couldn’t believe the results. This afternoon was by far the most fun I’ve had on the range in a long time. Great info thanks
Thank you for sharing! This is exactly why we do what do! To help as many people as possible play better golf and enjoy the worlds greatest game more than ever! Rewatching videos is a fantastic idea!
Great video explaining a detailed effective backswing for a two plane swing which differs from a one plane swing. I encourage golf coaches to make clear to the observer the difference when providing instructions. Mixing elements of the two swings could result in endless frustration. Love your teaching method by the way. I aim to try your proposed takeaway. Looks to be a fix for me. Thank you.
I got something for you. At address, the butt of the club is basically pointed at your left hip socket. Keep it pointed or in line with your left hip socket all the way to the top. Then in transition, shift your aim two inches forward toward the target line, aiming the butt just outside your left hip socket all the way through impact and the follow through.
Watching a lot of your videos, this clicked for me, I was getting muddled by others takeaways, this actually feels better for me coupled with the right hip moving back and not letting it come through too much in front has got me striping the ball now
Adam - I have been below plane for 55 years both B/S and D/S. I finally am getting the shaft on plane and above the forearm on the B/S. What is a good swing thought to keep the shaft above the forearm on the D/S? Swing is too in to out. Thanks!! Jim
Hey everyone from NY, this video seems a year old but the check points are outstanding, I'm at the range right now going thru all your check points and never hit the ball straighter or longer, no shit! I my miss is the trended Tugg, peel off left for a right handed golfer, in a video of yours the check piont was open the face at address and then grip it, outstanding straight ball flight, really I'm blow away, I'm a decent golfer but a better learner so what your teaching is all Engish to me ,,spelled out perfectly if that makes sense, anyway paused video back to range to practice my new golf swing, Can't Thank you enough, I totally get it!! pure Gold!
key move in your lesson pushing down on the grip and and keeping the club in front of your chest not letting the club get behind and to inside...been working on trying to keep the club square ...your explanation clicked in 2 swings! just hit some balls what a difference!! same move with the driver??
The pushing down on the grip to elevate the clubhead is a good move that was advocated by Mcilroy (when he was playing well), by Pete Cowen' and his instructors, and (while right hand focused instead of left) by Joe Dante. Your student still had some depth created by arm swing instead of chest/torso rotation for depth beyond the hip high point. What do you think of the old Nick Price / David Leadbetter drill where you take the right hand off at address, keep right side resisting rotation until the left hand and club swing under and collide with the hanging right arm, then put the right hand on, and then complete rotation with torso, chest, or back instead of swinging the arms to reach the top of swing?
Wonderful info re the golf swing! About the club staying in front on the body. Thanks so much you’ve renewed my interest playing golf again. 7 iron back to 175 carry
Thanks Peter, we would love to work with you! We are down in San Diego, CA and we also work remotely with golfers with our online lessons! Hope to see you soon! porzakgolf.com/online-lessons/
I liked the part where you can turn and face the club to see that it’s still in front of you and not behind you. I like videos that give tips on how you can check yourself and fix the problem. Thanks for a great lesson!
The hinging is more trail wrist extension than it is radial deviation, correct? I see most good instructors today have abandoned the idea of radial deviation (up and down) with the hands and are instead telling students to extend their trail wrist (which also flexes their lead wrist leading to flat or even bowed wrist at the top).
So I tried one of your drills for the take away and now I’m above the shaft plane are there any good drills to shallow else o’clock to get it to ride down my right forearm for my Trail forearm
so at the top for a RH golfer, in a MIRROR, the club would look to be a little LEFT of the trail forearm? Gravity would be trying to pull the club to the wrong side, correct?
Hey Jim, I apologize for the late reply. You are correct, left is better, and will make it easier to shallow out on the way down. Too flat can cause the opposite and influence the player to come down steep. A little left is ideal in our perspective!
Could u keep the club in front of u by feeling more stretch straight back before turning in the backswing? Especially with longer clubs? I see the club start to set after left arm parallel in some pros.
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! We want to make sure we give absolute certainty and clarity when we explain where you need to be. We also give drills and another analogies to help our players get there. With that said, it's up to the student to find a specific feel that works for them to keep the club in front of the hands and hands in front of the body. If feeling that stretch straight back works for you, then AWESOME! That's what we want to hear! We enjoy seeing that club setting later in the backswing.
Great question! Everybody will feel it a little differently, some like the feel of pressure down into the left heel pad to set the club up, some like the feeling of the right hand hinging up a little more both are correct.... the thing you have to be careful if you are using your right hand is not to let it lead to a snatching up or picking up or lifting motion. The hinge is more of a passive wrist move then a very active wrist move which a lot of people can mistake it for. We love to use the back of the left shoulder to push the left hand down the line of your feet as long as possible. This actually creates the most simple and efficient set of the club! Then your ready to turn and turn! Thanks for watching!
@@PorzakGolf Do you offer paid online video that puts the swing together --in the simplest way possible?I see you offer distance and power videos but I need to learn how to hit the ball 1st ,not grass
Hi I have a question, this takeaway or checkpoint 1 as I’ve heard you call it a few times, feels very natural to me, in fact I think it’s naturally how I want to take the club away. Everything feels great through the backswing and through impact the club feels square but that split little bit of time after impact it feels a little bit like I’m holding onto that club face angle and it feels a little weird in my follow through. Do you think this is grip related? Everything feels really solid besides the start of my follow throw, I feel like I’m rotating and everything is connected besides that one little part, I feel like I get into a position shortly after impact where it feels like I’m hitting a sawed off follow through. Thanks!
I’ve practiced the wall drill a lot and I use the alignment stick from the left heel, that part is natural to me but I do it anyways to make sure. The move feels very fluid besides that maybe 5% shortly after impact. I can pump it to impact repeatedly and it’s very smooth, I’m just having trouble with that one little part. I’m not swaying, I’m rotating well, my wrist is neutral and not cupped, maybe slightly bowed but more of an angled bowed if that makes sense like the end of a fishing rod cast, and less of the traditional basketball follow through. Anyways sorry to bother you, love your content, it’s helped me a ton in just understanding some of the basic mechanics and swing thoughts.
Hard to diagnose without seeing your actual swing, but that could be the club face being to closed either in your hands or yes it could be grip related, or it could be sequence related. That's BULL SHIT!! The greats golfers ALL Played with the shaft plane pointed just outside of the target line! ONLY one played inside the target line and that was "JACK"!!
JD, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I've seen Porzak always promote a plane that is at or inside the ball line on the backswing, but never have I heard him say to not have the plane outside of the ball line on the downswing. Actually going up more vertical helps shallow it out on the way down which I know Porzak promotes. Hope that helps - Gabe
