No, it’s not looking like Taekwondo. We, Taekwondo people, have a different style of movements. It’s hard to explain via Internet, but it’s definietly one of ways of Karate.
This is more like dance even though there are some very small parts that include karate
Here's the thing there's parts of taekwondo or gymnastics in there however by how the movements are executed and the amazing flexibility that's very hard to do is very impressive and amazing precision however I don't think it's kata I think it's a sequence of moves she learned or just making up a series of moves I don't think that much screaming is necessary but still yelling do bring out more power I'm currently a purple/black belt right now I'm testing for brown belt in 2 months wish me luck

Isn't karate and let me tell you why.
1. She kiais too often
2. She does flips, no kata will get you to do a flip
3. Karate is more about and strikes, not kick, although those kicks are amazing.
4. Usually people wouldnt move back when spectating because they know they have enough room. But 0:38 shows they are moving back and as seen one of them is a black belt, proving he does not know what she is doing (Well this doesnt prove this isnt karate, it just proves its not a proper kata)
5. Music..... and cheering as she is doing it. Im not sure if the music is edited in though.

People that doesn't know very much about martial arts usually label things as "Karate". This performance have some karate influenced parts but also contains other martial arts. JJ is primarily a kick-boxer but train several martial arts, including Karate.

Martial Arts should be taught in every American Jr. High and High School phys ed class. You should be able to have the option to choose a discipline and study it every day at school with experienced instructors. I guarantee that a great number of those students would want to continue to study and learn after graduating. You would see, in one generation, an amazing transformational change in this country.

This style of karate presentation is popular thanks to Mike Chat and his XMA...you can Google it...basically emphasizes acrobatics, theatricality, and silly poses. True, what this kid is doing is 80% poses, but I'm not going to take away from her speed and power (for her age). She is on her way to being really, really good.
Keith is right karate isn't done to music nor is it just a load of kicks and punches. Yeah it looks good to someone who doesn't do karate but that is not the point real karate is nothing like this so I'm upset that people are calling this karate cause it's not

But I can't hear the snap in her gee. You aren't allowed to flip in Karate unless you're doing throws / flips to another opponent during sparring, but even then the pivot section can't be above the waist. She kias too much, if you do that its improper, especially in tournaments. She doesn't strike as much as she kicks, whereas karate is a striking art, not kicking, but again the kicks are beautiful
I would know because I've taken Karate for a few years now, and not only is it this, but most of her moves aren't even official blocks / strikes. Doing this in tournaments would make you lose points. None of these moves are even effective.
thank you for making a comment with an explanation -- im out of practice, but i did karate for years since i was a kid and earned up to a second degree black belt before i didnt have time in my schedule to continue. this video is entertaining but its obvious it isnt technically karate, and most of the comments say 'this isnt karate' ... but your comment is one of the more mature ones.

(1) I practice MMA already, so I know that yelling doesn't really do anything other than show the person who is being attacked that the person who is doing the yelling most likely lacks skill, so they are resorting to verbal tactics.
(2) I can tighten up for a block when anticipating a strike without having to damage my vocal chords.

JJ is a truly remarkable athlete and for the uneducated out there, she is not only multi European Champion in Forms, but also fighting tournaments with competitions far more challenging than those held in the USA.
I never once heard about her in europe this little girl is a great athlete to endow very choreography but comparing to the small Mahiro Takano is light years to karate
