    What a complete Q&A. When I was younger and an avid quilter, I thought EPP would be a waste of my time. Shame on me. I'm an outlander fan from the day the 1st book came out. As the most recent book was coming out a fabric company in the US did a line called Go Tell the Bees. Bee themed of course. I bought it and thought hexagon EPP would be perfect for it. So I asked an English lady in our guild who specializes in EPP for guidance. I barely got started when I got so sick fighting cancer. As I started getting stronger I wanted to do something with my hands. I found you at about that time. When I found out about the hexiform from you I ordered some to try. They shipped very quickly to the US and the prices were very good. I now have a couple of your patterns done and several more started. I have always done a variety of hand needlework. I have become fascinated with EPP. I soon want to start a quilt as you go project. But I must finish some others first. Thanks for all you shared today.

      Hi Anne, thank you so much for sharing that. I’m sorry you were sick but I’m so glad to hear you’ve been getting stronger. I’m glad you enjoy hexiform and it’s lovely to hear you’ve made some of my patterns. Wishing you all the best for your health. Take care and thanks for watching 🌸

    Bless your ♥️. I could listen to your tutorials all day long! You are a very busy lady, and you should be very proud of yourself for everything you are able to accomplish……both in your family and home life, and also in your talent and you tube tube world. It is a shame that there are not as many quilting shops as there “needs” to be. 😊

      Agree strongly with your comment. Emma’s
      Sweetness and approachable demeanor are a bright
      Counter point to the
      Bleak outlook mass media pushes.
      She is a muse and well
      Able to describe steps
      To spur one forward
      Into sew or craft,
      Illustrating that we just
      Need to move through
      Plans one at a time.

      Thank you for breaking
      Down your process for
      Us. I am returning to
      Handwork & sewing.
      As I brush up my old
      Skill level I felt daunted,
      Hearing your Q &
      Reminds my sewing
      Memory of how the
      Steps “spark” what I
      Love about the
      Creative process!

      @@emmajonesvintagesewingbox mmmm, now that I hear that, yes, I might indeed, for I have some scraps left from my EPP hexagon quilt and I will also have some batting left which would get me started. My very first quilt I ever made was a queen sized tumbling block. Yes I picked one of the hardest. I had no idea at the time. But because I tackled a hard one first it makes so many other quilts easier! I find that yes putting down the phone is so very important!!! And what a blessing for being in this time that we have amazing people sharing how to make quilts. I have learned so much thru RUclips! My mom said she wish she had RUclips when she was getting started. I am so happy for you that this is working for you to be at home. I am a homemaker myself. I love being here for my kiddos.

    Enjoyed your video learning about you and your experience. My british gran tried to teach me to crochet but I had a hard time with it . Not holding the needle right and few other things she says sorry but give it up, not doing right . Like you said I did my own thing and finally got it straight. Wish she was still alive now , and seen that I've made many many afghans , a christening gown for my niece and 2 tablecloths and 1 on the go . Whether it is crocheting , knitting , cross stitching , or now EPP I usually do them during hockey games . Enjoyed this video , keep up the good work . Enjoy your projects and your tips u give us . Getting along with my DWR , I got 8 footballs done now , and plugging along . Take care , keep safe . See you in 2 weeks

    Loved this video!!!! Had a spinal fusion, your "Perfect Quilt Project" saved my life post operatively. In retirement I make quilted, knitted, crochet baby/children's blankets for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. It is extremely cold there in winter, so I always use Quilter's Dream Wool Batting. I used cute, funny faced, doggie fabric to make a 36" x 37" "binky" blanket (9 rows of 8, 2 1/2" hexies). I just wanted you to know the DRAPE is simply wonderful ...... sooooo soft, suishy and cuddly. I wish I could attach photos here. You're the best!!!!

    That was really a great Q & A session! I learned paper piecing from a favorite relative and the two of us really bonded over choosing fabric and setting up projects. But in the rest of my life I am an avid gardener and mixed media artist. Listening to your stories made me think you have a storyteller inside as well. I love that you remain inspired through nature. And I love that you are teaching your son to sew. I learned a lot about sewing from all my relatives including my father who learned sewing on a Navy ship and continued sewing our hiking, camping, and fishing gear. Everybody should sew. I don't have a TV or buy newspapers, I learnt EPP from you ( thank you) crotchet from the Crochet Crowd, which took me hours, the time was well spent though and also quilting from RUclips. Dad taught me to sew, my Great granny also worked in a "gown" shop that used to be in Princes Street, I must google it, I have good memories of her, she was born around 1875 and used the arm of her chair, covered with brown paper as her pin cushion 😂Anyway, Thank you for the share and hope your son is enjoying school, excellent tips on how to get him stitching 💖

      'Windmill Fabrics' in Saintfield and 'The Factory Craft Shop' in Ballymena are the two that I have bought from most recently. There are lovely Tilda fabrics in both and some Liberty in the Ballymena shop. I bought dressmaking fabric in 'Craftswoman Fabrics', Carrickfergus, years ago and keep meaning to go back to check out their quilting cottons. Also have a note of 'The Cotton Shed' near Portadown, but haven't gone there yet and am not sure if it is still in operation. I once came across a quilting shop on the Cregagh Road in Belfast but have never been back there. I think it has 'quilters' in its name? Again, I don't know if it is still in business. You said tree stump houses, i instantly thought about plain or tea dyed calico or homespun made into a tool caddy with hollow branches, as tube spaces for scissors and pens etc, and embroidered stem stitch vines and ivy leaves etc. Flowers around the base, foxgloves etc. You could make leaves as lids for branch holes and a few leaves as a roof, a crooked chimney, may hold Jack the (seam) ripper and a threader. You may find larger pockets on the back, or like a door, good for needle packets. If you made a flat base, you could put in crooked sate sticks, to put small vintage thread spools on like flower stems? Have fun?

    Really interesting video, I do hope you continue to do what you enjoy most. As a pensioner I can honestly say " do that with makes YOU happy ,life is a precious thing. I still have so much I want to complete ,I am very aware I need to make choices in what embroideries I still want to achieve .Also I certainly need to start passing my u.f.o .to others, rather than my children throwing them away. Really keep up your great video's.

    I’m making tumbling blocks out of 2 1/2” diamonds, I would never tried it with regular paper pieced blocks, but hexiform shapes are awesome. I’m planning on making a king size quilt with them. I also got 3/8” diamonds to make tiny tumbling blocks but can’t figure out how to glue baste them, can you help? I’m from Massachusetts USA and I’m ordering from Ashmead Designs, I wish the were sold in the US. I stumbled on your site, and found out about hexiform, thank you. I still want you to help those of us who can’t draw or how to space (like flowers and there stems) things out for embroidery.

    • @emmajonesvintagesewingbox
      @emmajonesvintagesewingbox  Год назад

      I would baste the diamonds in the same way as the 2 1/2” ones, just use a smaller seam allowance of just under 1/4”. Hope that helps

    Emma, I recently received my order of hexagons from Ashmead Designs. Have you noticed that they are now not as substantial as before? I’m having a difficult time folding my fabric after gluing as there is way less body in the hexiform shape. My first few orders the shapes were a breeze to work with. Do you have any hints as what I could do to help? Thank you, Roxie

    • @emmajonesvintagesewingbox
      @emmajonesvintagesewingbox  Год назад +1

      Hi Roxie, I haven’t got any of the newer hexiform as I still have quite a lot of the older stuff. I think the best thing to do is to contact Suzi at Ashmead Designs and she will be able to help you. I’m pretty sure her email and phone number are on their website. She’s lovely and I’m sure she will have some advice. Let me know how it goes 🌸
