Yes! It's a true story. Dolly is a Queen and our National Treasure. Her philanthropy is amazing, too. She's such a giver. Her Imagination Library is amazing. She gives every US child a new book every month from 0-5 years old. I applied when I was pregnant and got a book every month until my son turned 6. She also helps pay college tuition for her employees at her theme park, Dollywood, 30 minutes from my house. I could go on and on... she's simply an amazingly kind, beautiful, and talented woman.
No way I could have said that better at 50 years young I grew up on Dolly... Thanks again for another great reaction... Put your seatbelt on Britt You are gonna speed past 30k to 100K.
Im lucky enough to live close to DollyWood and met her once as a kid. She definitely lights up any room and is beautiful inside out. I couldnt think of a more gracious person bar none. She is a National Treasure and Tennessees' favorite daughter. Anyone hurt Dolly, we going to war. 423 Blazin Fury on top😄🔥🧨🧑🚒 Snatchin rings @ the carousel FTW
This song says a lot about Dolly. She wasn't mad at the kids that laughed at her, she felt sorry for them that they couldn't understand how important love is. She wasn't angry or frustrated with her mother that she didn't have a new store-bought coat - she appreciated the work and love her mother put into making it for her. Everything she has done since reinforces this message she wrote in one of her earlier songs about facing hardship with love and thankfulness and without self-pity or resentment. It is a good lesson for us all.
In Dollywood near Pigeon Forge Tennessee you can see a replica of the coat her momma made! The cabin she grew up in is also preserved. If you get the chance, watch her movie “Coat of Many Colors”. Make sure you have some Kleenex when you do. You cannot see the poverty she grew up in and not be impressed with her adult accomplishments, generosity and philanthropy.
I was reading through the comments to make sure someone had mentioned that movie! It's basically autobiographical documentary. A must-see for any Dolly fan, or anyone looking to learn more about her!
Dolly herself says the coat is a replica. She said she didn’t know what ever became of it. But they did the best to make it very similar as she remembered it.
I live 45 minutes from where she grew up, and I’m so proud of Dolly. When our area caught fire, she helped raise money to rebuild homes. I used to get books from her when I was a kid too.
Who doesn't love Dolly?! Can listen to that beautiful singing and talking voice all day. On top of her numerous talents, Dolly is very very funny and witty. Dolly is a gift to humanity.
Dolly comes from very humble beginnings, that song was about her childhood, most of her song are about her life experiences,She's always been my idol, My Father was Inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame back in the late 80's and when we we're young and be sitting around the house for family gatherings or what we would call just picking and grinning, My dad would break out his guitar and I'd sing that song, that was our thing everytime I'd visit all the way up till he passed away 4yrs ago, I'm 60yrs old now, Thank You sweetheart for such sweet memories ❤️ God Bless You, Thank You for your reaction hope you have a blessed day 🙏
I heard a reporter ( I think from Rollin stone magazine) talking about his time with Dolly for an interview. He said he was amazed how smart and sharp she is. She plays up that sweet southern girl persona but he said was one of the sharpest people he ever met.
They said she's the smartest person that she owned our and she is one of the richest singers I see nothing on the internet she's worth 850 million not bad from a dirt-poor for hillbilly
Dolly can play so many string instruments! In her live shows she has 6-7 near her and each song she'll put down one instrument and pick up another like it's nothing. She's amazing in every way! Looking forward to more Dolly reactions. Her catalog is vast and fantastic and she's still making new music constantly
I read an interview after her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance Dolly can’t read music that well, but plays 20 instruments. OMylanta, is there no end to her talent?
I admire that she took control of her career and business. Her voice is hauntingly beautiful but you also have to admire her as a business women who gives back to her community. She has not only suceeded for herself but brought her community work. Her book scheme is also admirable. I live in the UK and find that Dolly could give lessons to British feminists in what it means to be a powerful woman in charge of your own destiny and unapologetically true to yourself.
My Daddy had a friend when I was a little girl, she was a retired US Marine MP and a single mother. and he would tell me what she always told her 3 daughters' when they'd ask, "Mommy, are we poor." and she would respond with simply, we're not poor we have plenty of Love, we just don't have any money."
This song is true. Dolly ha spoken of the facts of this story from her childhood. Many of the songs Dolly has written have been performed and made famous by many other artists. She is beautiful inside and out, and has so much talent.
It's real and was in Dollywood for the longest time. She grew up very poor in Sevier county TN and still contributes to the community to help "her people"
A simple suggestion for you, as you seem to get the beauty of the voice would be Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt singing "The Sweetest Gift" or anything they did from the collaboration album Trio. There isn't such a thing as perfection but these three singing together are as close as we'll ever see/hear.
That was the very first Dolly Parton song I heard way back in the 60s on the old Porter Wagner show. Later on, on that show, she sang Love is like a butterfly. Been hooked on her music ever since. The song is based on a coat her mother made for her.
Oh, Dolly is such a storyteller. Her songs are almost magic. She has a couple more heartbreaking songs that tell a beautiful story you might be interested in. “Down from Dover” and “Me and Little Andy”
A true Icon in the music world. She is such a talented singer and songwriter, who came from a poverty filled childhood. (It would be so nice if you could show us the view from the front of your monitor; we see everything in reverse. Just a suggestion, not criticism.)
Dolly Parton, believe it or not can play just about any string instrument you give her. When I was a kid we were on a Shenandoah river in Virginia a place called Watermelon Park and every 4th of July they had a bluegrass festival that's when I 1st saw her in concert and she could pick a Banjo.
Dolly has a way about her. Its a characteristic that often lends itself to the term for "Southern Gentleman", or Southern Belle. It is her way of speaking as someone who is simply being honest, with no regards to attempting to fabricate or far from not telling the truth. It doesn't hurt that she has a nice singing voice and tells many stories.
When I was young my Mom made all my clothes. She loved this song. So she made me and my sister a coat of many colors. I would have never told my Mom but I didn't want to wear it to school. I just knew the kids would make fun of me. But instead they were asking where they could buy one. My Mom got all these phone calls from Mothers. They wanted her to make them for their girls and they pay her. My Mom said she was sorry but they were only for us.I felt ashamed, proud and happy at the same time.
I just adore Dolly. Shes a true gem of a human being. Her book club for kids is a big hit in mt home state of AR. All the kids are on it until they go to school. Its a beautiful thing to bring books to kids that do not have easy access to a library.
Dolly also wrote and performed "I Will Always Love You" which Whitney Houston sang in the movie The Bodyguard. It's also the song she refused to let Elvis Presley sing.
There is a clip on a Musician/Guitarist channel who analyses just how incredible her performance is - with her personal, specially adapted type to cope with those nails! True? I do know she grew up dirt poor - I believe every word and I believe the Coat still exists!
Look up her home online it was tiny. When tornadoes came through Pigeon Forge and Dollywood she didn’t wait for FEMA or insurance companies to come in because a lot of them couldn’t afford home insurance. She had construction workers come assess the damage and go to work rebuilding their homes and lives
My mo was one of thirteen kids and grew up very poor. This was her favorite female artist and her favorite song. The movie Coat of Many Colors is amazing!❤
She's a brilliant musician, right up there with legends like Freddie Mercury, even in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame before she released her one rock album. Hysterically funny storyteller and actress. Nothing but love and boundless respect for our Dolly, a complete legend.
This song is true. Very poor growing up. Her momma sang as she did housework and her beautiful voice comes from her momma. Many brothers and sisters. They got new shoes once a year, probably after harvest, and she taught herslf to play the guitar. There's a movie from this song of the same name, starring Dolly.
Dolly is an iconic American treasure. Not only has she been producing number 1 country hits for 30+ years, but she has been producing number 1 hits for multiple artists for just as long. You should really look into her as she is just as good a person as she is a songwriter. She set up the Imagination Library which gives free books to children (over 100M free books so far) as well as helped people in Tennessee after the hurricanes and wildfires ravaged the area. She has been awarded with the National Medal of the Arts (the highest honor the US Government gives for the arts), inducted into the Country Hall of Fame, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2022), 11 Grammy awards, written over 3000 songs, and most recently donated over $1M towards COVID vaccine research development. I look forward to watching you discover her talent.
Dolly grew up in extreme poverty in East Tennessee. 12 people in a one room cabin. This song is totally autobiographical. Of course, now she could probably buy the whole state of Tennessee. She's a smart business woman and a national treasure. She is the REAL DEAL. She's one of the most authentic artists we have left. There is so much represented in her singing voice when you listen. She is a small, petite person but when she opens her mouth to sing and that voice comes out, you hear the history of an entire culture of people who live in the mountainous region of the eastern part of the United States. You hear the suffering, the hardship, love and compassion of all that is encompassed and encapsulated in that voice of hers.
I came from a very large family and hand me downs was a constant and Mom would patch and stich to make it fit. We all got new shoes once a year. And when my Momma went to work as a Janitor at our school I was very proud of her , The kids teased me 1 time Never again .. My Mom asked if my black eye and bloody were because the kids teased me about her working there. I said NO MAM . The useable being Puerto Rican not speaking very good English.
I look back growing up, mom knitted us sweaters, we wore hand me downs, it was just how life was, Dolly singing this song was how so many of us grew up poor, and happy.
True story. Dolly plays many instruments..... Dulcimer, banjo, guitar, piano, recorder, saxophone, violin, harmonica and snare drum!!! She is an amazing philanthropist and a fantastic singer song writer.
Check out her movie “Dolly Parton coat of many color” that tells the story of her childhood and her special coat. One of the people you meet in the movie is Jenny Ogle who protected her from the bullies in school and is her best friend for life and even goes on tour with her. Special bond between the two. Such a true story she sings about in this song. Dolly’s mother is played by Jennifer Nettles who is 1/2 of the country music award winning duo Sugarland.
Yes Britt , it is a true story about Dolly Parton and her coat of many colors. She came from a large family and they were very poor. Dolly does so much for others, she is very sweet!
I'm from Nashville TN and my mother was a poor child and she was called patches as a kid because of her patched garments. She said that she wrote a poem that was similar to this when she was a girl. A lot of kids back then were poor so had similar lifestyles. She says she met Dolly when she first came to Nashville and she knew that Dolly would make it because she was so determined.
Dolly has played the guitar since she was 7 as well as many other instruments throughout the years. She not only writes her own songs but she makes the music for it. This song is a very true story.
This is one amazing woman, not only a great performer, she plays 12 instruments and is also a philanthropist giving books to children until the age of 5yo with aim to wipe out illiteracy in the area from which she came I’m a 80yo Australian woman and only one of many who hold her in high regard in Australia.
My Granny rest her soul auditioned with Dolly at the Grand Old Opry. She unfortunately didn't get Great Pappaws permission. Often wonder how life would have been so different for her. Granny had a wonderful voice and sang hems to all 14 of us grandchildren. I will always remember her every time I hear Dolly Parton. Absolutely love Dolly, she is an amazing human.
Love your reaction to Dolly. One artist from those days is Charo and she just doesn’t get enough love and recognition in my opinion. Please check out Charo’s Maleguena. She is a Latin performer who was quite big in the 60-70’s. She had just as big of a personality too. ❤
Almost every time people have asked her about how she decided on her public look. She giggles and admits she used to look up to the small town hussy 💯💯
I have a good friend who studied and played Jazz for a lot of years. Recently, Dolly came up in conversation concerning her guitar skills. He said, "Oh yeah, Dolly's gangsta."
This performance was, I think, in 1989 - so the 3000 songs were as of 1989 - and she writes songs almost daily. I think I remember hearing that she had over 5000 songs copywrited by registering them with the Library of Congress.
You may be one of my favorites reactor. You are so funny, beautiful and talented yourself. I have been cracking up laughing watching you this evening. Thanks for acknowledging all these beautiful souls/singers I appreciate you ♥️
There are 2 movies, part 1 & 2, about her childhood. They are well worth the time. Jennifer Nettles, who is a country music star herself, plays her mother.
If you go to the albums the cover has on front dolly as a child in the coat of many colors Dolly started singing with Porter Wagner many duets Jeanie’s afraid of the dark Fight and Scratch She wrote I’ll always love you for Porter to say goodbye and go solo. The old country is what I was raised on and I love
Hi I have made a few comments after I discovered your reaction videos and I hope you don't stop... You're very natural and you're very curious and it is awesome to see that, I'm 58 year old Canadian woman and just discovered you I think your reactions are honest and true do not stop you are an awesome person I love the way you really watched listen and react to the videos and or music keep doing what you're doing because this is all that's really passed down thank you and God bless 🙏❤️🌎
Hey Britt, Dolly, is so talented and sing's beautifully a great voice for all types of music there is a song of Dolly's, you need to listen to it's called "OLD FLAMES CAN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO YOU" A great country song from Dolly please react to it, THANK YOU
Active during much of the same time, the country story-telling male counterpart to Dolly Parton is George Jones. Best choices to start include the all time top country song, "He Stopped Loving Her Today", and "The Grand Tour". Also, his original, "Tennessee Whiskey" is the basis for the popular Chris Stapleton cover.
Dolly Parton, one of my all-time favourites, if you want to hear a really great guitar performance I highly suggest you listen to Tina S playing Moonlight Sonata, 3rd Movement on a electric guitar, her performance is mind blowing
Dolly was raised dirt poor, with many many siblings, and is completely self taught.
They made a show that covered this portion of her life.
It’s very true!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Britt, This was part of her childhood and it's her real story!!!
Dolly grew up very very poor . This song is a true story ,her mom made this coat for her .
Mrs. Dolly sounds just like an Angel when she sings and when she talks. She is a beautiful person on the inside and out. I have always loved her.
Who doesn't love Dolly?! Can listen to that beautiful singing and talking voice all day. On top of her numerous talents, Dolly is very very funny and witty. Dolly is a gift to humanity.

she made a movie of this when she was a little girl and her mother made her a coat of whatever she had and put it together
Dolly is a legendary musician, but I think she’s probably the best lyricist in modern history as well.
THE STORY IS VERY TRUE! She still has the coat :)
Definitely a true story; even made a movie about it. She plays several instruments.
Love Dolly! She has never forgotten her roots. National icon.
She has lots of her history on display at Dollywood, it's her fabulous theme park in the Smokey Mountains .

Britt! Lovely reaction! I would humbly suggest "these old bones".
Dolly is one of 11 children. They were raised dirt poor. This song is a real story. The coat of many colors is in her museum at Dollywood
Dolly is a living legend and an amazing songwriter. She's written hundreds of songs.
A very important song - Down from Dover.
Dolly fought and won to record this controversial story
It's real and was in Dollywood for the longest time. She grew up very poor in Sevier county TN and still contributes to the community to help "her people"
A simple suggestion for you, as you seem to get the beauty of the voice would be Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt singing "The Sweetest Gift" or anything they did from the collaboration album Trio. There isn't such a thing as perfection but these three singing together are as close as we'll ever see/hear.
When Dolly was interviewed one time she said " it takes a lot of money to look this cheap ". She is so easy to love.
Her singing " Me and Little Andy " brings tears.
Man! Her song writing skill is off the chart. This is her story.
The bridge is another great but sad song
A true Icon in the music world. She is such a talented singer and songwriter, who came from a poverty filled childhood.

My daughter bought us her book. Every page her song and the story beside it of why she wrote. Fabulous story.

Legend. 'Nuff said.
This story is true and amazingly she still has that coat of many colors that her momma made her when she was a little girl.
True story. There is a TV movie "Coat Of Many Colors" about Dolly that seems to get aired around Christmas
Yes, it is true. she has written in excess of 3,000 songs, and in my opinion she is phenominall. Thank you for your interest.
There is a clip on a Musician/Guitarist channel who analyses just how incredible her performance is - with her personal, specially adapted type to cope with those nails! True? I do know she grew up dirt poor - I believe every word and I believe the Coat still exists!
YES ITS A TRUE STORY ! DOLLY GETS HER PERSONAL STORIES FROM HER PERSONAL EXPERIENCES !!!!!!!
This is true!! She wrote this song about her momma and the coat she made for Dolly! So wonderful❤
Her Momma made Dolly rich twice in her lifetime without even trying to do so.
A must for Dolly to watch is He's Alive from the Dove awards show. Prepare to be amazed.
My favorite Dolly performance is 'He is Alive' done live at an awards show. Simply breathtaking.

She did a Christmas movie several years ago called Coat of Many Colors and it is this story from when she was a little girl.
It is indeed a true story about her mother!
Yes true story and dolly plays many instruments
Almost every time people have asked her about how she decided on her public look. She giggles and admits she used to look up to the small town hussy 💯💯
The one thing we all should learn from Dolly is she never forgot where she came from and she always tried to give back to her community
This song is true, about her life.
I just seen she died😢so sad,she will always be a legend amd stellar example of what we should aspire to be
You may be one of my favorites reactor. You are so funny, beautiful and talented yourself. I have been cracking up laughing watching you this evening. Thanks for acknowledging all these beautiful souls/singers I appreciate you ♥️
So, the only person at school that stood up for her, was someone everyone else made fun of too. They are STILL best friends today!!
A song from her history, more so from her heart
There are 2 movies, part 1 & 2, about her childhood. They are well worth the time. Jennifer Nettles, who is a country music star herself, plays her mother.
If you go to the albums the cover has on front dolly as a child in the coat of many colors Dolly started singing with Porter Wagner many duets Jeanie’s afraid of the dark Fight and Scratch She wrote I’ll always love you for Porter to say goodbye and go solo. The old country is what I was raised on and I love
Thank you - one of her best!
This is most definitely true! She is a national treasure!

Dolly is a true legend. I know punk and metal bands even that have sung her songs. ❤
Dolly Parton is our 🇺🇸American National Treasure. 😚💋😘💞💖🇺🇸🙏😇👍
Dolly Parton, one of my all-time favourites, if you want to hear a really great guitar performance I highly suggest you listen to Tina S playing Moonlight Sonata, 3rd Movement on a electric guitar, her performance is mind blowing
One of the most famous songs that she has written was 'I will always love you' Sung by Whitney Houston!
True story, the coat hangs in a museum today...Dolly always tells her story...it is about her.
