As a psychologist I worked with veterans and the smell of gasoline for gulf war veterans especially is highly triggering in regards to their PTSD. Tim has no firmly held beliefs or personality so he over compensates by feigning emotional outbursts. That's why those outbursts are always so badly timed and misplaced.

Guessing he missed how in Parasite it literally had a whole scene and theme is about smell? That the rich family develops a repulsion to the poorer guy after the husband tells the wife about smell of poorer and she just starts noticing it when she didn’t smell it at all until her husband’s enforced discrimination 😂 I love how someone like Pool thinks he can just decide academia dead. She got doctorate which takes a lot of work
That would be great. I would love a discussion about the topic because, I'll be honest, I'm not going to read the whole thing, but it's an interesting premise, and I'd love to know more. 😂
I knew Tim Pool was dumb but I didn’t realize he was this annoying… seriously. Is his show meant for children? Is he telling jokes? I genuinely can’t tell if he’s trying to be funny, trying to be charismatic, or if this is just how he talks. Regardless, it’s really grating.
He only gets this animated sometimes. Last time I saw him this excited was when he was taking money from Russia and Ukraine was our "Greatest enemy". Everything Tim does is performative and he doesn't understand there are people who have genuine thoughts and morals.
English Lit major here. Based on the abstract, her paper seems pretty par for the course. Elaine Scarry's "The Body in Pain: The Making and Unmaking of the World" is an example of a book that was influential and similar. It focuses on physical pain, how it's described in literature, and how it makes and unmakes our subjective reality. Analyzing smell in the same way makes sense to me.
How insecure does someone have to be in order to lash out in a jealous rage over an intelligent woman’s impressive accomplishment? Tim Pool is so insecure, incurious, & pathetic.
This misogyny is scary for real. that Margaret Atwood quote that “Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them” is what keeps coming to my mind, like every day, with these rapists and these “content creators“
Apparently Tim Pool doesn't get what a Humanities thesis/dissertation looks like in general. For my English Masters I focused intently on Yeats' alter egos within his poetry and broke them down based upon his interest in the occult. Like, yeah, we research on very specific nuanced topics written for academics to read. Also she wrote about Woolf's Flush? Sounds like an interesting paper. Yeah it would be about "species" since Flush has a spaniel as the narrator.
Tim Pool dropped out of high school when he was 14. He does not know what AP US History or community college general ed classes look like, let alone an MA thesis
A more science based thesis even at Bachelor level is a pretty niche subject as well. Mine was about taste-profiling of steamed potatoes using volatile capture and untargeted metabolomics.
The whole point of a thesis is less what it's about and more about how you have presented the subject and constructed your arguments. You can literally write a thesis about anything. I've read thesis after thesis that are just absolute nonsense, but in terms of the construction of it as a piece of academia, they have been impeccable. Tim doesn't understand this because, not to put too fine a point on it, he is a an idiot.
@@TheLucanicLordright. Probably because your going to have a very difficult time presenting the subject and constructing effective arguments about astrophysics if you write about an entirely different topic.
I think the underlying problem is that she is not only intelligent, hardworking and capable, aka everything Tim Poole and his audience are not, but a naturally attractive young women. Tim Poole knows that this woman would never show the slightest bit of romantic interest in him, because he is too dumb, insecure and shallow to interact with such a person. That’s the only reason she and other women like her, need to be taken down in his world, because the existence of such women alone is enough to pull his understanding of himself as an alpha male into question.
Why is Tim so activated? It’s clear that his emotions have over taken his rationality. He is no longer coherent and, I think we can all agree, he should sit quietly until this hysterical event has passed. Maybe going forward his producer can make a special safe space for when he gets triggered
They spend their time telling people that other people are spending their time wrong. Which makes objectively far less sense than my previous sentence.
1. The thing about academia is that a lot of the low-hanging fruit in research has already been done to death, so to come up with original research, you have to choose a topic that's going to seem pretty esoteric to the general public. 2. That said, analysis of a particular sensory modality in literature, along with its implications, is a fairly well-known topic in literary criticism. This research on olfactory modality seems legitimately consequential, and if he can't understand that, it's Pool's limitation, not the author's.
Bad enough only-read-the-first-paragraph Pool ignored fact that the thesis concerned literary references. And more, his rant fails to consider that the thesis was written by a Professor at Cambridge University in England. So whose academia is he criticizing? Dude is super dumb. Hard to visualize his viewerhip.
The entire discourse around this lady happily presenting that she got a PHD is disgusting tbh. All these no life creeps (who could not earn a PHD if they TRIED) crawling out of the woodwork to whinge about 'modern academia'.
They try to find a way to justify for themselves why they are academic failures. Tim probably has ADHD - would explain, why he cant read more than 2 paragraphs. But like his balding, he cant handle realities very well. So he creates fantasies to protect his fragility
Tim Pool’s like: “some ‘aCaDeMiC’ said ‘the unexamined life is not worth living’, but the unexamined life is ABSOLUTELY worth living, in fact, it’s the best life”
I LOVE the story of Tim Pool wanting to insert himself into the skateboarding community by offering cash for a local competition, and they REJECTED HIM 🤣
I recall a line from “Gone With the Wind” (book not film) that was clearly…uh, coded. Tim is mad cause he had to look up the word “olfaction”, and it’s not X rated.
IMHO the core problem is that conservatives don't want to recognise that anything is complex - that's why they keep insistently going back to "common sense" even though the majority of the time it's "common sense" that doesn't work any more because common sense actually just refers to shortcuts that were good enough back in simpler times. Academics studying the cultural impacts of smell expose complex societal problems and create an obligation to address those problems, systemic oppression requires deep inspection of society and the systems within alongside deep structural change, recognising queer people exist requires an understanding of humans more flexible than boy meets girl that doesn't work in rigid binary frameworks, even climate change requires thinking about the world as a global system instead of just what you can directly see in the moment in your home town. They would rather oppress millions and millions of people and burn the planet than have to think even a tiny bit about the world as a complex place to live in.
I remember in Of Mice and Men that Crooks, the old black maintenance man and the only black person living on the farm as far as I recall, was forced to sleep in the barn because the other white farm workers insisted he smelled. There's no fucking way all the white FARM WORKERS baling hay all day didn't stink to high hell. It's a worthy topic for consideration. More recently, I've been reading Sherlock Holmes and smell is only mentioned in opium dens and shitty bars. I love Holmes, but man do those books demonize the poor and anyone from outside of England.
Tim Pool doesn’t read about a topic, does no research, knows nothing about it, assumes he knows everything about it, then directs his audience to be really mad about it while simultaneously saying that some people are “going too far” with their rage. Yup. That’s standard Tim Pool. Full moron all the way, every day.
Tim can cast whatever shade that he wants, but the second I heard the thesis title I thought, “Ooh, that sounds really interesting.” I wish he’d go be an ignorant dunce in a corner somewhere.
As someone who has a sensitive nose, people generally don't smell, well, unless they've been working out, in which case they'll smell like sweat, they've been working in a commercial kitchen, in which case they might smell like a fryer, they've been drinking so they might smell of ethanol, etc. Like as long as people take a bath, whatever smells they have generally go away, and usually the class and housing issues related to smell are related to access to bathing. I believe that was a thing in Parasyte, but I haven't watched it in a while. And to bodily odor, a part of the human population doesn't even have the genetic makeup to have certain body odor (though I can't tell if it's literally BO when this is discussed or what, they're never clear). The thing that can have a unique and possibly offensive odor would be one's home, and that can latch onto one's clothing, and generally, if not universally, that is what someone is going to smell. There's also people's detergents, their soaps, etc., which could also be considered part of one's home and not intrinsically part of one's body. And even if someone's body does smell untoward, it doesn't mean it's "because of the food they eat" or its intrinsic to their "race", as Beanie Boy is trying to claim, it's usually a medical or biological issue. Even Body Odor can be a recurring issue that requires the use of something like Hibiclens every once in a while, since regular bathing might not mitigate the bacteria on the arm pit. Obviously the body naturally produces smells, and some can be strong, so if you can't be nice about it, don't say anything at all, since again, there are genuine medical issues that create intense bodily odors. I specifically remember recently a queer Indian man on twitter showing a grindr discussion with a gay Italian man and how the gay Italian man brought up how "smelly" Indians are, asking how often they bathe, and just generally being racist, using smell as a way to be racist. The idea that somehow people don't use the olfactory sense to be racist or bigoted is ridiculous.
It actually doesn't. It might say something of issues he has (learning disabilities, issues at home or at school), but I don't think it says something about his intelligence. It definitely does allow us to assume his knowledge base to be severely lacking.
@ lol. You guys are doing great. And you can hold your head high knowing that you’re fighting to make this world a better place. Even if it’s a struggle sometimes. Cheers!

Guessing he missed how in Parasite it literally had a whole scene and theme is about smell? That the rich family develops a repulsion to the poorer guy after the husband tells the wife about smell of poorer and she just starts noticing it when she didn’t smell it at all until her husband’s enforced discrimination 😂
I love how someone like Pool thinks he can just decide academia dead. She got doctorate which takes a lot of work
Parasite has subtitles, he hasn't seen it.

That would be great. I would love a discussion about the topic because, I'll be honest, I'm not going to read the whole thing, but it's an interesting premise, and I'd love to know more. 😂
The way that guy reads the most basic academic language with contempt is so telling. Puts on his "angry women voice" and everything.

Not a lit major, more of a geography guy, but i would read that paper on smell. Not the thesis, got nobody no time for that, but definitely the paper.
How insecure does someone have to be in order to lash out in a jealous rage over an intelligent woman’s impressive accomplishment? Tim Pool is so insecure, incurious, & pathetic.

I never considered that but it’s 100% correct.
I mean… I think we can all see how he doesn’t get many, if not most, things in life. 😅
Tim Pool dropped out of high school when he was 14. He does not know what AP US History or community college general ed classes look like, let alone an MA thesis
A more science based thesis even at Bachelor level is a pretty niche subject as well. Mine was about taste-profiling of steamed potatoes using volatile capture and untargeted metabolomics.
this is the first abstract tim has ever read in his life if I had to guess
Fascist like Tim pool hate social analysis because it doesn’t allow them to make broad generalizations about how the world works

The whole point of a thesis is less what it's about and more about how you have presented the subject and constructed your arguments. You can literally write a thesis about anything. I've read thesis after thesis that are just absolute nonsense, but in terms of the construction of it as a piece of academia, they have been impeccable.

Using Tim Pool and moron in the same sentence is kind of redundant lmao🤣😂
It's an insult to morons actually.
Saying that someone smells is old-school bullying.

Bad enough only-read-the-first-paragraph Pool ignored fact that the thesis concerned literary references. And more, his rant fails to consider that the thesis was written by a Professor at Cambridge University in England. So whose academia is he criticizing? Dude is super dumb. Hard to visualize his viewerhip.
there’s an elephant graveyard video where you can visualise his viewership. it’s exactly as you’d expect

"how dare a PhD thesis be high minded!!!"
Tim Pool, December 2024
Tim Pool doesn’t read about a topic, does no research, knows nothing about it, assumes he knows everything about it, then directs his audience to be really mad about it while simultaneously saying that some people are “going too far” with their rage.
Yup. That’s standard Tim Pool.
Full moron all the way, every day.
Well, the silver-lining is now more people are probably going to read her work. For a researcher that's a win.
"This is the death of academia!!!"
Bruh, you didn't even graduate high school.
Tim can cast whatever shade that he wants, but the second I heard the thesis title I thought, “Ooh, that sounds really interesting.” I wish he’d go be an ignorant dunce in a corner somewhere.
When Tim grows up, he's going to be the angriest old man ever.
"Tim Pool is a moron and has been for quite some time"
There, I i fixed your title.
Tim quit school at the age of 14, where he only made it to the 5th grade, so that tells us all we need to know about his brain power and intelligence.
