She reluctantly decides to help him, admiring his persistence, but repoached his carelessness. She figures that she should give him a bigger goal, fighting the Hollow Knight. A brother who was deemed perfect by the Pale King, but failed ultimately. In short, HK and the Failed Vessel looked up to Hornet so long ago, and now Hornet looks up to FV to instill hope that he can beat her brother, The Hollow Knight.
The part where the pale king was gesturing to the path of pain reminded me of that scene in spongebob where they were telling squidward to get in the coffin.
