Helped me upgrade the CPU from a 3 core N830 to a 4 core N970. Thank you. I already upgraded the hhd to an SSD, although it ran alot better the CPU was staying pegged at 100% on simple tasks. Then I had to go to AMD to download the 970's driver's so that windows would recognize it instead of thinking it still had the old CPU. Runs like a brand new machine.
Though i needed to replace the fan due to overheating but turns out a wall of dust was preventing that fan from cooling properly... your video was great help to disassemble the laptop.
I am sure there are many people who have different kind of opinions. Someone is more careful and think it is bad to use a drill, it is their decision. Anyway, thank you!!!
You are most welcome. It was the keyboard that got me stumped. Too used to screws! So much easier. This kb uses spring tabs only. So annoying I could not use a cordless scewdriver this time!
To get to the fan I had to remove the keyboard then the top part of the housing... pretty much up to min 4:35 in the video... then you have access to the fan. I had the same issue and it was caused by a thick wall of dust. Once i removed it, it worked like a charm.
Fixing one of these for a friend. All software related though I was gonna open it up and clean out the heatsink. Luckily I saw this video before I did. I've only taken apart a couple laptops and they've all been fairly easy to get into and stuff. This is a little too much just to get to the fan shroud and clean it out. Thanks for the video. Just nah not doing this. XD
Hey, thanks for chiming in anyway :) It was translated pretty much enough to understand. His comment wasn't that bad. It is ok, there are always a different people out there.
amazing sir, just amazing... I have this one and now I am kinda scared to open it because I know that I will not be able to close and not forget any of those thousands screws
This video is exactly for all purposes :) More likely you will need to remove only a keyboard first. And you will have some access to your fan to clean it with compressed/ canned air Don't make it rotate a lot, it can be damaged easily.
Oh, and yes, usually removing a top part (called palmrest) will give you a huge access to a fan. And it will probably work. Of course you will need to remove all screws from the lower part (case bottom).
my electric connector fell apart on the fan when pulling it out... :-( So I ordered a new fan off Amazon for $8.75 and free shipping. Not bad.. BTW I was pulling it apart to clean the small animal out of the fan and cooler. It had been running so hot the last year and I finally googled it. Great video it helped me out.
+Lessmiller Jeffrey I am so glad that this video was useful! I hope you will fix your laptop and it will be working again without overheating. Next time you can also look on eBay for parts. Have a nice day!
Ah! very good then. I myself am a translator, so I did not use google translate. I don't usually use google translate cuz I feel it usually gets the syntax wrong in more complex sentences. I just figured you knew what you were doing and felt his comment may have been insulting. although personally I wouldn't use a power tool on a computer, I figured the purpose you were using it was different, and most likely appropriate. cheers.
There is always the risk of antistatic discharge and I did notice you were not using anything to reduce that risk. Cordless screwdriver is fun to use but also easy to damage the screw head and or screw bit. Now I try not to use the cordless screwdriver unless I am breaking for spares. It's not really a big time saver and I get a better feel with a regular screw driver. No serious concern over torque either. I think you are fairly safe using a cordless on the outside casing.
Be careful with cordless screwdriver, some users telling that it can generate antistatic electricity. I never had any problems with my one, but just to make sure you know the risks :)
if you want to clean the fan which is on the side of the pc what i do is use a little air in a can while it is running and if you see a lot of dust come out there goes your heat problems
This computer is so complex 😫. Why is it so hard and too many things to do to take off the back. Even I took it off I won't know how to put it back together.
Hi, you can't just take bottom off, it is like a base... you need to remove a palmrest... to apply thermal paste you will need to remove a motherboard and take out heatsink and not just add more, clean it and apply again on a clean surface ... Definitely look for some video on yt about that too.
Alright thanks. Do you know how much it would cost to have a computer repair shop do this for me? Clean the fans/vents and apply more paste to the cpu/gpu? I would do it my self but after watching this it seems like I might break something if I try to get to motherboard myself. I have the 5552G laptop and bought 2x4gb ram sticks so I have double the ram. I just really want to make it not over heat more. Im just afraid the fans have went out and it'll cost more to get a new one? If I could?
Haha, I didn't removed CPU out of this laptop, I should but I didn't. In this particular laptop CPU was removable. You can remove it by unlocking this CPU lock with flat screwdriver and just carefully lift it up. If you are not sure how to, just check some other videos of my where CPU was removed... This locks are all pretty much the same, except some very old laptops...
It all depend on technician, country etc. :)) Just call some computer shop and you will find some price range :) Fan can cost about 20$ :) check on ebay... Have a good luck!
I have an issue where the screen does not appear to be getting any power. No beeps, the computer powers on like it normally would and you can hear the hard drive spinning then it'll stop. I've tried reseating the RAM, removing the RAM entirely, removing the battery and holding the power for 30 60 90 120 seconds with no AC cord and then booting using the AC cord. I mostly pulled the laptop apart before looking up your video. It was getting really warm during extended usage and I lost the rubber feet on the bottom plus the fan didn't seem to be adequately cooling it. I am wondering if I fried the GPU or if there was possibly a way that I could save this laptop. I've owned it since about August 2010 and it has been great up up until now. The last day I used it I gamed on it for a good long day, it didn't seem to get too hot. The next time I powered it up was when the black screen on startup happened. Nothing ever since. Any suggestions? Too cheap to buy a new one!
Hey there. First of all, thank you so so much for making this. I've already used it as a reference for changing my thermal compound. It was actually the first time I've ever opened a computer and I was quite nervous, so this was really helpful. Now, however, I'm dealing with a new problem, so my question is: Is that the component for the power button you're taking out at 4:22 - 4:32?
here let me correct you cause pros do tend to use and electric screwdriver to get work done a little quicker also they use cards knives or small screwdrivers also should go around to other shops to see how people do their work and visit the shops that are better then the one you go to or own
I have this very laptop, and I have the black screen problem, tell me a away of how I can fix it, Thanks for the video that was very helpful now I know how to open my laptop, thanks again....
Hi, sorry for such a late response, usually I answer faster, but anyway, if you still have same question ... you know in some cases if fan is very dirty, it will be hard to remove all dust out of there with a canned air. So, it is basically completely up to you.
When I plug my apdator into my latop it somestimes says it is not charging when it knows it is plugged in and it take some fiddling to get it in the right place. Where you plug the apdator in is loss and I though that the connect to the mtherboard may be daaged but I suspcet after looking at your video that the cables may be damaged. Any advice you can give to me? And also the name (and type) of the part which you plug into the apdator.
If I just take the bottom off could I just get to the motherboard to clean it and apply more thermal paste to the gpu/gpu? I got this laptop back in 2011 its starting to overheat once in awhile when im gaming. IM thinking it is just very dirty or fans have went bad. I am into the networking side of computers not really the hardware so idk.
Hi, this is not a criticism, do you always call a "moron" anybody who you don't know? Without "moron" it will be criticism. Comments are on approval, so there is no need to post 3 times. Some people like my videos, other people don't. Internet is big, find another video. Have a nice day!
After I put the computer back together, I got the same problem as rangus 55, it would power on but nothing would show up on the screen. But for me it's just stayimg that way. Do you know how I could fix it? Thanks in advance.
Sorry, there is no video like that. I think if the person will carefully take a laptop apart, remember where screws coming from and also where all cables coming from - it will be not a big deal to put everything back together. If some one is careless - it will be hard even with this type of video.
Laptop isn't very old, probably this hard drive will be fine, but better Google it to find exact answer to what hdd you can upgrade. 1.32 hard drive completely removed from laptop and hard drive caddy...
regazzz is it possible to replace the graphic card on an acer 5552 to put a better one ? And also to get more RAM ? I ask that because i would like o play more recent videogames on my laptop but cannot afford to buy another computer. Thanks anyway !
Ok I hope you can answer this. I took it apart mostly. But now there is no video when I put it back together. The power goes on, just no video at all. Any help?
ive got this laptop and its suddenly stopped turning on ..you press the power button and the blue light comes on the fan kicks in for a few seconds then stops and the screen stays black any ideas what it is ?..ive replaced the main battery and it still does it
Hi there I dont know if anyone can help. When I start my 5552 up the screen will sometimes just go white. It can be really annoying as I know the computer is working in the background i just cannot see whats going on!! This is really frustrating if i am in the middle of work. Do I need to change some component in there? I am on Windows 7. Any help much appreciated. Thanks :) Paul
Hello, two same sticks? It should be pretty easy to put it back. First of all they will go only one way in to a slot. On one side of a stick you will see a many gold looking part. This side should go in to a slot. and when you will put it all the way in - you will need to click this memory stick back in to place parallel to motherboard. Also, some of my last videos are with assembling. If you will take a look where I am placing memory back - you may have a better clue on how to do that.Otherwise, if this will not help, let me know.
here's the translation to what he said, I thought you should know. "Excuse me, you're a mess with that drill, very bad form, on a side note, you're missing music."
hi all, i have one like this nothing on display, fan work but nothing show, i tried ti flash bios an some times my acer turn on, but when i shutdown, hi need to reflash again can come one help to slove this issuse
Its the GPU. Use a heat gun on high and in small circles heat it for 30-45 seconds. Dont be fooled by the flash bios method. I have fixed several Acer black screen issues with this method. I had one come back with the same issue and it worked again. I told her to back up everything you need and next time go buy a new laptop that is not an Acer.
first good job regazzz....second this is one of the easiest laptop to dissasemble so i dont see problem for putting it together again...so your commentary is not in place at all....anyway good job acer.
I am happy to have such a knowledgeable viewers like you! Thank you very much!

about to change cpu in my aspire 5552. This helps take some fear out of doing it. Appreciate you sharing, this should help many.
This was super useful for me! I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to open it up further. Stupid keyboard.
MicManGuy I am glad this video was helpful for you!
I am sure there are many people who have different kind of opinions.

Excellent video, it was very useful to me! Thanks from Argentina
Hi, it is very easy to access, it is between memory and wifi slot. Round one, you will see.
I would recommend to check on the external monitor first. (will it post or not?)
amazing sir, just amazing...
I have this one and now I am kinda scared to open it because I know that I will not be able to close and not forget any of those thousands screws

It can be simply video cable problem, make sure it is connected well, maybe even tape this connection that it will stay in place.
if you want to clean the fan which is on the side of the pc what i do is use a little air in a can while it is running and if you see a lot of dust come out there goes your heat problems
Nice to watch what's inside of my notebook! Awesome info!;))
Thank you regazzz for your answer. Where do I find the video cable connection?
This computer is so complex 😫. Why is it so hard and too many things to do to take off the back. Even I took it off I won't know how to put it back together.
thank you for sharing this. only issue i ran into was keyboard wont respond to any key strokes, checked cable a few times still no go
DC jack can be old and loose, you may change it and see what's happens.

Yes, this is a power button. You don't need to remove a power button to replace a thermal compound :))
thanks for the video, just had to clean my fan.
MrAntivirusxp Great! Thanks for watching!
Hello, sorry for such a later reply, yes, this is a power button, I hope you will be able to resolve your issue.
Feel free to ask :)

Is the GPU upgradeable or is it soldered to the motherboard? Thanks.
That was awesome.
Sara Calhoun isn't a whole channel - awesome?! :)))
great video, thanks a bunch
I unscrew everything and I can't get it to open. What am I doing wrong?
Can u replace a processor in this laptop?? I was thinking of an upgrade

a bit late, but a bios flash might do it
Hey, can you take cpu out of the motherboard?
What type of problem do you have? :)
It was possible for the laptop in this video.
thnx a lot! but I have one extra screw haha
Great!!!
Is the processor soldered to the motherboard? Or is it replaceable?
It's replaceable. I put a N970 in mine. Has 4 cores instead of 3. Runs great
where would the video card be
Gracias me ayudó mucho...

No, GPU is not removable.
