Unfortunately according to my limited, unscientific research, it's his voice that puts most people off. The very thing that we, as fans, appreciate most.
His music is very rarely melodic and his singing style is too much for most people. Intense, deep and often very sad would describe his compositions best....and extremely personal. One of the most difficult singer/songwriters to get into but for me this man is a genius
