Great! The theater you used to show how the body uses energy systems is incredible. Unforgettable! Congratulations and thanks for sharing with us aging runners.

I'm just sticking to 5km and gradually work on speed, I mix my route with flat, undulating and hilly terrain. I train Monday Tuesday, rest Wednesday, run Thursday and rest Friday. On Saturday I do the local parkrun and rest on Sunday, I don't go mad, I just make sure I make tiny gains and work on my running style and breathing. I'm 57 with long covid, arthritis on one of my hips and recovering from long term depression and alcoholism. At the beginning, (I've managed to do to date 28 runs) I couldn't even manage to run a km without stopping, now I can run the whole 5 km, my km spilt times were 8 minutes, now I average 4.30.

How can I know that I recover enough between my runs? Just count rest time or do you have some other methods?

So would you recommend intervall training or just stay in zone 2 and augment the overall volume?

    Running easy is sooo boring.
I don’t have any plan to race half marathon or longer so I run easy but every five minutes sprint as hard as I can for five seconds then walk until my heart rate is back to 100 bpm then I start easy running again until the next sprint.
I get 14 x 5 seconds sprints in a 75 minutes training session. I feel good about it and much less boring than running easy for 75 minutes.
